Nice current state overview. Have been mad enough to go all in with the Splie & Dice campaign despite not having played one session of Too many bones before. End of March all if it has been delivered and logged well over a dozen games in BGG already. Speaks for the appeal of the game to me. Now just waiting out for the Trove Chest and ordering all the missing promos on Black Friday.
Schöne aktuelle Übersicht. War so bekloppt und bin letztes Jahr mit Splice & Dice all in gegangen ohne Too many Bones je vorher gespielt zu haben. Jetzt wurden die Sachen Ende März ausgeliefert und seitdem bereits mehr als ein Dutzend Partien in BGG geloggt. Spricht dann wohl für das Spiel bei mir. Warte jetzt nur noch auf die Trove Chest und für Black Friday ist auch schon vorgemerkt alle Promos zu ordern. Die zusätzlichen Loot- und Encounter-Karten sind echt nett. Hatte ich in Essen beim Dice & Mystics 2018 abstauben können war Too many Bones bei mir überhaupt aufs Radar gebracht hat nachdem ich nachgeschaut habe worum es geht.

24:00 when the die doesn’t land flat, we call it a “cocked die”. That neoprene one looks pretty with the water, but the shape/structure looks weird. The pledge I got for cloudspire comes with one, so I guess I’ll see how it goes before I get a leather one >.

I am just getting into it. Done lots of research but only own Undertow.
In my area I can currently only get the core game, Splice, Dart, and Lab Rats. Should I get core game or Splice and the two characters for Father's Day?
I'd rather go for the base game. Gearlocs bring fun and diversity to the game and 4 Gearlocs come with the base game.
Great video. If you go all in, how many extra dice storage and chip storage trays should I buy?
No extra dice storage trays needed, every Gearloc comes with one. If you'd like to put the status dice, atk and def dice etc. also in one during the game, just put them on there lids of the other storage trays.
As for Chip trays, 2 are perfect. In one I always put health chips and encounter cards and in the other Baddie chips and loot cards. If you're playing on a really large table with 4 people, you might get a 3rd one, so that it's a bit more convenient for everybody to reach health chips but I don't think so.

Thank you for this video, it helped me decide I want the base game, Age of Tyranny and another charcter, Nugget, which I ve seen being used in a playthrough video. Too bad I cant find this game anywhere. Even CTG is only accepting preorders which I will never support. Cheers!

@@ichbintimo823 Yeah, i ve heard their are trustworthy. I just normally dont like to preoreder because of delays and last minute changes but seeing how their stock is getting gobbled up I might need to grab those goodies while they re available.

The chip tray and premium health are in no way needed. I prefer the lighter life chip and I also prefer to do stack of chip on the table then on a tray, because when you only have 1 or 2 chip in them, they will tend to fall over. As for the dice tray, I also prefer the one with the lower rim, most of the time I let one side open (not clipped) so it is easier to grab the dice, see them, etc. One last thing, you need to give Boomer more love! She is very good if built correctly.
She's pretty op towards the end but still....

Great video this really helped me! I have TMB base and Undertow- have you ever tried mixing the content? I am unsure how best to expand the game; buy more gearlocs or get more variety of encounters 🤔

Timo, I need some advice 'cause I'm new to the world of Daelor and plan on getting that game with all the stuff I need to enjoy. I'm German but I'll write in English here, so others can partake in that as well. I've got a few questions:
1. I'll mostly play with another player (2 players) or solo. With how many gearlocks are you usually playing in a 2-player game, and in a solo game respectively? What is recommended?
2. Which gearlocks are the best to play with solo? Let's say there are only 1 - 2 gearlocks on the battle mat. Please tell me your recommendations no matter if they are bonus buy characters or not. I would buy them.^^
3. Which gearlocks are the best to play with in a 2-player game? Which combinations have the best coop synergy effects?
It would be awesome if you could give some tips on my needs. :-)
1. I mostly play solo with 2 Gearlocs, sometimes with only 1. But since my wife came to love the game so much, I barely play solo any more.
2 and 3. Hard to tell. All Gearlocs play almost completely differently. Some are easier to play (more straightforward) while others take a while to get the knack of them (Stanza, Tink, Dart). Also, some are very powerful making the whole game easier (e.g. Ghillie, Gasket) while others make the game more of a challenge. A tank (Picket, Gasket or also Patches) and a ranged Gearloc (Ghillie, Boomer, Dart, Nugget) are usually a good team. But there are so many possible combinations with pros and cons that it's hard to tell.
If you are on Facebook, go to the Too Many Bones Community Hub group. You'll find all sorts of information and advice there with even the designers being part of the group.

Hi Timo, how are you? I ve seen your video multiple times as I am thinking on start buying this game, I say start as I do not have any material yet and I am trying to optimise the shipment costs 😊 if budget is not an issue why would you buy base + undertow over base + 2/3 gearlocs? Is it worth it the additional material? Does it give replay ability to be added since the first play? Thanks!
The advantage of Undertow over single Gearlocs as addons is that you'll also get additional tyrants (bosses), more baddies and also new types (Krelln int he water and Mechs) and also a lot new encounter cards. Plus, a whole different battle setup if on the raft. So yes, it provides more variability and more stuff than only additional Gearlocs.
But be careful: soon after getting the game you'll want to have everything! ;)
@@ichbintimo823 I know buddy, but I am thinking on making two sparely buys. So first base game and something else, and after some time the rest of the items to complete the collection. So now I am doubting a lot on what else to add on the first purchase 😉
With the base game alone you will have lots and lots of hours fun to play. Get 2 extra Gearlocs, they bring the most variety to the game. When you have played it A LOT you will appreciate the extra encounters and new battle setup more.

@@adriancorralesromeo540 Dart is a great (support) character but not that easy to play. 3rd hardest, I'd say. Ghillie is probably the most powerful, making the game easier. And you just have to love Nugget.
Enjoyed your video, got Undertow and a 4 additional gearlocs. Undertow had a more interesting battle map and over twice the number of special encounter cards than the base game. I hope they have an expansion with more water encounter cards.

Are those chip trays from Chip theory? Or generic brand? Chip theory doesn’t ship these trays to Canada so I am looking at an alternative..
They're from CTG but I heard they don't sell them any more. But there are quite a few files for 3D printers out there...
Ist das Grundspiel wirklich Pflicht? Ich habe mit Undertow angefangen und mir Ghili als zusätzlichen Gearlock gekauft und überlege nun, wie ich die Sammlung erweitere. Die aktuelle Tendenz ist Splice and Dice, 40 days, Gasket und/oder Dart. Aber auch das Grundspiel hatte ich mir überlegt, da es einfach viel Inhalt bietet. Trotzdem bin ich davon angekommen, weil die darin enthaltenen Gearlocks doch recht simple scheinen, lediglich das Rage Management spricht mich an. Mich würden also lediglich Encounter und Baddies an der Grundbox reizen. Daher die Frage, denkst du, dass es das Wert ist? Werden die Baddies aus dem Basegame für Splice and Dice benötigt (da andere Rasse)?
Sorry Max, du hab es jetzt erst gesehen. MMn lohnt sich das Grundspiel. Viel mehr Baddies, viel mehr Tyrants (7), neue Encounter. Die Gearlocs im Grundspiel gehören zu den am wenigsten komplexen, aber dadurch machen sie nicht weniger Spaß. Tantrum und Picket sind meine beiden Lieblingsgearlocs. Die meiste Abwechslung beim Spiel kommt durch die verschiedenen Gearlocs. Wenn also die Wahl ist, Gearlocs oder 40 Days o.ä., würde ich zuerst immer die Gearlocs nehmen.
Das Grundspiel ist definitv von allem der beste Deal. Der content ist durch die Gegner / Boss / Encounter /Loot / Gearloc Vielfalt einfach mega.

Do you think Undertow enhances the base game by mixing the baddies together? Only reason I'm considering getting Undertow is if it improves the base game, the extra contents I can dwell into once I'm finish with the base
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight so I guess there's no need to mix the baddies together to give each of them a unique feel. If the game is worth what I think it is, I will get Undertow, just a matter of time.
I mix all the baddies, even from Splice and Dice and they work very well together. Mechs and Krelln can only be used if you play with Undertow encounters and the Undertow battle mat which brings a slight variant to the game. I'd definitely recommend it instead of buying only Gearlocs.
Hallo, ich habe eine (evtl. dumme) Frage zur Adventure Map. Wie genau zählt man den Fortschritt auf der Map? Beispielsweise hat der Weg nach Shalefist 5 weiße Encounterpunkte bevor es zum roten Tyrannen Encounter geht. Ich benötige aber je nach Tyrann 6, 8, oder 10 Fortschrittspunkte. Du suchst dir den Punkt, der der richtigen Anzahl von Schritten entspricht und legst den Chip des Tyrannen dahin. Wenn der Tyrann 6 Punkte braucht, wählst du also Shalefist. Der 6. und letzte Schritt ist dann der rote.
@@ichbintimo823 Vielen Dank für die prompte Antwort! Nehmen wir mal Mulmesh als Beispiel. Man benötigt 6 Fortschritt um ihn herausfordern zu können. Ich lege daher seinen Chip auf Shalefist. Der Endkampf gegen Mulmesh findet auf dem roten "Tyrant Lair" Punkt statt. Ich müsste also 6 weiße "Encounter" Punkte und damit Fortschritt erreicht haben, um ihn bekämpfen zu dürfen (Wie gesagt, der rote Punkt ist bereits der Ort des finalen Kampfes). Da es aber nur 5 weiße Punkte gibt, gehe ich einfach davon aus, dass Obendar der erste Encounter ist, obwohl es auf der Map nicht als solcher markiert ist. Da ich Age of Tyranny nicht besitze, weiß ich leider nicht ob die Day 1 Encounter aus dieser Erweiterung immer in der Stadt Obendar stattfinden, oder nicht.
Ja, richtig. Du legst den Glasnüppi auf Obendar und ziehst die erste Encounterkarte. Falls du erfolgreich bist, erhältst du einen Fortschrittspunkt und darfst dich auf den ersten weißen Punkt bewegen. Nach deinem 6. Schritt stehst du auf dem roten Punkt. Hast du noch Tage übrig, hast du die Wahl, ob du gegen den Tyrannen kämpfst oder vorher noch eine oder mehrere Encounterkarten versuchst. Spätestens am letzten Tag musst du gegen den Tyrannen ran, sonst hast du verloren. Solltest du den Endkampf verlieren, aber noch einen oder mehrere Tage übrig haben, kannst du den Kampf am nächsten Tag auch nochmal versuchen.
Jetzt hab ich‘s verstanden. War verwirrt, weil es nur fünf weiße Punkte gibt. Vielen Dank!

The game is great, the price tag is just ridiculous on this one unfortunately. This is well over CAD $700 plus taxes and shipping. It's great (friend owns it so i've played it) but it's just way over priced.
What is it overpriced compared to though? Component quality tied to the sheer amount of those components, what out there is offering something similar while at a cheaper price point? It's expensive. But it's not over priced.
It is expensive which is why it took me quite a while to order it. But it's far from being overpriced. Try to print a Neopren mat anywhere and you'll see that this is not overpriced. And I guess I mentioned it in the video, if I calculate the $ per hour played it is one of my cheapest games. Plus, you don't need to go all in, just get the base game or maybe even only Undertow. Get it at a convention or if you're very lucky at a local store to save shipping which is really expensive because the game weighs a ton.
