Great video! Relatively new to Magic but lots of cheaper cards that work well with Elsha that I haven't seen in other more expensive videos. Thanks a lot!!

This is awesome. Tried a Prowess deck with Elsha, but it doesnt work well. I will test this Version and I guess it will rock. Thank you :)

Hahaha, I love me a good pun! Let me know how it turns out. If you really want to try a prowess deck I would suggest Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest. My buddy has a Shu Yun deck that KO's people out of nowhere and it's pretty fun to pilot! Anyhow, best of luck!

She seems like such a cool commander but all her lists are ridiculously expensive. Thanks for this

Sure thing! Yeah, for me it's all about finding a play group that is on the same page and wants to play some fun games without breaking the bank...

Wow, a lot of those cards suck.
Where are those moxes, fetches, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, OG duals, Force of Will, etc?

Haha, yes this is definitely a sub optimal build. The idea is two fold... First to give people an idea of how they could play Elsha on a budget... whether there playgroup has budget restrictions or there own wallet limits there deck building capacity. Second, to providing a starting point for those that want to upgrade a deck overtime. Ironically my main playgroup feels that the moxes, fetches, crypt, vault, etcetera suck. Not because they are bad cards but because they created an arms race among our playgroup. We adopted a budget restriction because not everyone was wanting or able to spend the same amount on cards but everyone did want to have a good time. We had a few players who would show up with PreCons while most of us had decks worth a few hundred dollars and a couple of players that had decks worth 3-4k! One of the players in our group could consistently have Darksteel Forge with a way to reanimate Nevinyrral's Disk every game by turn 2. It was really cool, except it wasn't very fun to watch him play goldfish. He was mostly able to do this because he had access to so much mana so much faster than the rest of the table that even if we teamed up he was able to easily outplay us as he also has more knowledge and skill than the rest of our playgroup (hint: it wasn't me ;). At this point we had a conversation as a group and decided to put a cap on each card in the deck. Does or has your playgroup experienced any of the same struggles or how does your playgroup balance your meta?

@@BudgetCommander1 Just run more answers. If the problem has to do with him reanimating Nevinyrral's Disk every turn, just run Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void.
Scavenging Ooze is also great against graveyard decks.
Heck, even counterspells are great to prevent this from happening.
Shadowspear can take care of Darksteel Forge.
Instead of having to put a restriction, just run more answers in your deck.
If money is an issue, just use proxies.

While I completely agree with you and am always trying to tweak my decks to match my meta, my playgroup as a whole did not feel the same way. While jamming my own decks full of answers unless I had them in hand the moment they were being played it usually didn't matter as this same player would start destroying everyones lands turn over turn. You could at most play two lands to the battlefield and that's if you went before the darksteel forge player, then you had to continually play a land every turn to maintain that or ramp to grow your land base however having a land destroyed every turn did prove challenging. :( This just wasn't the experience the majority of the people in my playgroup wanted to have. Over the last ten years we have tried a variety of formats including, modern, standard, standard pauper, peasant, commander, pauper commander, cube, battlebox, and draft. There might be more but I can't think of them... Commander with the price restriction is what we have been doing for the last two and a half years and it has created for the best play experience for our group as a whole. Games are slower with much splasher plays ending around turn eight to thirteen as opposed to turn three to five. However most people are leaving feeling good about how they spent their evening, instead of frustrated that they spent the evening with someone that has a different idea of fun. Crafting my meta has been the most challenging thing about hosting games, as everyone's definition of a good time is different. Yes, proxies could solve the puzzle of another players deck without hurting my wallet but ultimately people in my playgroup didn't want to play magic that way.

@@BudgetCommander1 Use land recursion to get around land destruction.
Heck, even use Lord Windgrace as your commander to always reliably have a way to recur your destroyed lands.
Shadowspear can easily get around Darksteel Forge as it removes not only hexproof but also indestructible.
Your playgroup sounds like they need to learn how to "git gud" rather than whining on about how one player can get the same card resolved every game.

    • @BudgetCommander1
      @BudgetCommander1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Haha, probably true that our group needs to "git gud". I am always learning new rules and interactions between cards even though I have been playing regularly for over a decade now. A handful of the people in this group are quite solid players attending and consistently placing well in local tournaments.
I think the real thing is that nearly all of the players with exception to one, wanted a more chill experience. Before our budget restriction there were many complaints and people left our game night frustrated that they didn't get to "play" and we basically shuffled between games of one person playing solitaire. All but one of our more enfranchised players already had that competitive outlet and wanted to jam some more laidback games of magic, while our less enfranchised players just wanted to hang out with their friends and "actually" cast a couple of spells.
Good suggestions, both of those cards weren't out yet at the time so neither would have been a possible solution while we were playing commander without a budget restriction. For the most part I think that as a table we would have needed to get access to that fast mana such as the moxes, vaults, and crypts of the world because player X had access to so much more mana than the rest of the table and... that was the reason that even though we knew it was coming our decks just weren't at or even close to the same level to deal with it mostly because nobody else wanted to play that kind of magic.
While proxies would have solved the arms race, it wouldn't solve the issue that about half of our group while knowing the solution to player X didn't want to play that style of magic, while the other half doesn't have enough knowledge about the game or even an interest in researching how to deal with player X. It's not for everyone but this is how my group has the most fun playing magic. I hope you have people that you can enjoy that more competitive style of magic with because it can be super fun to play that way too!
