Budget Commander

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 มิ.ย. 2019
Budget Commander provides content on the Commander/EDH format, with a focus on playing the game on a budget. On this channel you'll see deck techs, gameplays, deck building guides and anything else that comes to my mind!
2021 EDH/Commander Deck Building Guide/Template
This video will provide players with an edh/commander deck building guide/template based on the statistical analysis of 1,000 decks. The winning decks from 1,000 games of four player free for all pods were analyzed to provide a base for what a generic deck should try to include. Note that I would judge these games to lean toward the casual side, however analysis of only the winning decks begins to slant you toward a more competitive experience. Players should then use play testing of there own meta to further improve their gaming experience!

do you have the latest update for this deck?
@@kaixaarc Sorry I do not have an updated list!.
@@BudgetCommander1 aww, bummer
Removal is a very hard thing to calculate, for example, is Sheoldred, the Whispering One - removal? She makes opponent to sacrifice creatures.
@@WookieRookie this is a good point, I would have slotted sheoldred as card advantage from her ability to get back cards from your graveyard that you get to select and the sacrifice ability your opponents get to choose. Although she does both i wouldn’t have counted her towards removal simply because I believe she is a stronger candidate for a slot as a card advantage piece and I had to make a judgement call and didn’t want to have one card count toward multiple things. Hope you found the video helpful!
Thank you! Great video, looking forward to finishing this deck out
Good video! Thanks for providing details as to why you chose these.
I just want say I really appreciate that this is an actual budget commander deck, I'm trying to put my own ayara commander deck together and I will definitely be putting these cards in it
Man i miss this channel
Its been 3 years since this came out and I've been wanting to build a around Chevill and I really liked this video. I would like to know if there are any new cards you would add to this deck after the 3 years of new cards that have come out.
Solid budget build, and a greta video that gets to the point. I saw the comment saying the editing felt cheap and i do not agree. I am subscribing just in case you make videos again.
I think Alesha who smiles at death would be a good inclusion cuz she brings back a creature power 2 or less from the grave when she attacks. Good way to get back some of those tiny dudes with good effects. Also Kelsien the Plague+thornbite Staff+deathtouch will allow you to one-shot any creature on the battlefield. Throw in a Void Maw to have those creatures exiled then put whichever ones you want back in the grave to make him really big and smack someone in the face for big damage. Im actually in thr process of building Trynn and Silvar myself and your list is pretty damn good. Keep at it brother!
Now that Lurrus can be companion to Elas Il-Kor, I'll probably use these with a mix of aristocrat and cleric cards
2 years later, Geth is down to under a buck lol
Pariah and Worship are great with Oketra if they are in budget
I pulled the Gigan variant of this card so I was looking for a budget deck just like this! One thing that is not budget friendly, but if you happen to have a Thassa, blinking Gyruda once a turn is pretty great
Any chance I could see an update to this? Such as a $40 or $50 budget variant? Numot, the Devastator is my favorite Commander, so I'm always looking to improve consistency while making everyone else suffer. >:3
Finally picked it up it just needed some mana rocks but after that it seems to work better
I'm actually not surprised that 41 is the median land base number; statistically speaking, 41 lands puts you almost exactly at having a 60% chance to successfully play a land for the first 5 turns of the game. Most decks should not go below 38 lands, which is only about a 50% chance for the same. Mana curves are still higher in this format than others, and falling behind is especially bad in multiplayer, so this makes sense. I can't tell you how many times I've watched commander games (MTGMudsta, IRL, etc) wherein someone ramped crazily for the first three turns and dropped a bomb, only to consistently miss land drops from T4 onward and have someone solve their threat. Unless you have a game-winning god-hand, ramp should really be considered as a way to set yourself up to out-power your opponents over the course of the long game, rather than replacement for essential lands. Otherwise, you're paying to do something that should just be free.
I play sunder, with turbulent dreams and wheel leave them with no permanents and me with 30 cards
Wow Blind Obedience used to be so much cheaper. But anyhow, my suggestions to add are: Alseid of Life's Bounty, Selfless Savior, and Benevolent Bodyguard for protecting Lurrus Cathar Commando (a newer card), Elderfang Disciple, Kami of False Hope, Tormod's Crypt, and Heliod's Punishment (or Darksteel Mutation, if you wanna spend a little more money) for controlling the game Golgari Thug, The Birth of Meletis, Nullpriest of Oblivion, Thraben Inspector, Perpetual Timepiece, and Chromatic Sphere/Chromatic Star for consistency/other value Really excited to build Lurrus though and you've given me some great ideas, so thank you for the video!
man, have you made a deck for me in the past, the channel is over? wanted to partner with you on budget videos. do you have email? or some means of contact?
Ayara is quickly becoming one of my favorite commanders. A couple suggestions on the Budget side: Skirsdag High Priest is sitting at around .25, it's 1B for a 1/2 with morbid, tap it and two other creatures for a 5/5 black demon with flying(if something died, which is no issue in this style deck). Bog Witch for anyone focusing on the graveyard side.... 2B 1/1 that lets you pay B and tap to discard a card and add BBB. 2 more sitting at about $1 a piece: Bloodsoaked Champion - B for a 2/1 with Raid (1B return it to the battlefield from your grave if you attacked this turn). Priest of Gix - 2B for 2/1 on ETB add BBB so it pays for itself, and since it's ETB you can potentially have a recurring mana source.
How would you play a sevinne deck?
hello friend, you've made a deck for me in the past, now I have a commander budget channel too, your channel died.?. Can we exchange an idea? how and tro in contact with you?
Pontiff of Blight has white/black in its abilities, is that allowed in a mono-black commander? I though it had to match
The W in Extort’s reminder text is just that - reminder text. It is not part of the card’s color identity. You CAN run it.
Do you plan make more building edh decks? I think that you have to nice ideas and i'm telling to new players about this Channel. Stay safe and take care!
I'm so glad to Discovery you Channel!!! Nice content and nice deck! I'm gonna build this one! You have a new sub. Stay safe and have nice time bro!
Glad to have you aboard! Hope you have fun with this one!
stormfist crusader opened my eyes, thanks
Most welcome!
I think the amount of land creep is do to all the utility lands that most people are running. Great information and great work!
Thanks and that's a very good point, I hadn't really considered that but you're probably right!
Thankyou for all your hard work this is both interesting and a useful resource
You're welcome!
YOU'RE BACK
Hey hey, yes I have been out of commission for a long time. I'm hoping to come out with content on a consistent basis but perhaps not as often as before! Thanks for looking out!
41 lands IMO it's too high! Maybe droping to 39 or even 38 and adding it up to the "gameplan" stats could be a solid choice. What do you say about it?
I'm just sharing the stats... I was really shocked to see that as the median for decks that won in four player pods. Yes, plenty of the lands also fit into the gameplay category...
Alhammarret's Archive also synergizes well as your gaining double life and dealing more damage.
Good call Coolae Chardonnae!
That build is pretty fire bro
Glad you liked it!
so heres a question i cant seem to get a answer for can you run 2 copys of a companion in a commander deck if 1 is the companion because it is not counted as 1 of the 99 (note i dident check if any of the companions would be able to fit there own rules)
Good, question... I don't believe so, as that would break the rule of having more than one copy of a unique card in your deck, with the exception to basic lands and cards like "relentless rats" that state a deck can have any number of copies of itself, if that makes sense?! Hope that helps.
I know by playing wheel cards I could easily increase my deck’s power, but I love playing weird combos so instead of only cards that kill with a ton of snakes, I add in things that let me use my snakes as resources to kill others. For example; Xenagos the reveler, cryptolith rite, and song of freyalise can let my snakes tap for mana (bonus if they have haste) which can let me cast a lot of shit, stuff that combo with swarm intelligence and other copy shenanigans to copy fun shit like chaos warp to use on snakes and get out random permanents, second harvest to make an ungodly amount of snakes and kill everyone with 1/1 snakes (and use as resources for more ungodly amounts of shit), battle hymn to get stupid amounts of mana for mana dumps like banefire or folio of fancies, or even genesis ultimatum to get out a bunch of enchantment and artifact win-cons. It’s also super easy to get mana with sorcery mana ramp that also combos really well. Temur is just such a fun color!!!!
Oh and did I mention fun shit like using collossification on somebody’s commander and then act of treasoning their commander to insta kill them with their own commander? Or using fynn the fangbearer with stuff to give deathtouch to give all your snakes deathtouch +infect? Yeah, Xyris is my first commander and one I love to death with all the fun shit you can do.
Wow, that sounds fun to pilot or to play against!
Cool think I'll use this as a foundation to start getting into commander play when people are able to get together and play again.
That's awesome!
dauntless bodyguard
Good call!
I’ve run 4 different power levels of Geth decks for years. Here’s my insights: 1). budget doesn’t have to equate to strippping a deck’s power away: land-based ramp (Burnished Hart, Wayfarer’s Bauble, Cabal Stronghold) is really really good. 2) even cheap tutors are powerful when you generate gobs of mana. A 4-drop Diabolical Tutor or a 5-drop Final Parting acts like a Demonic Tutor when you can make 25+ mana a turn. 3). Efficient artifact ramp (Sol Ring, Worn Powerstone, Gilded Lotus, Clock of Omens) should pair with the land-based ramp to assist in sending mana production through the roof. 4). Then it’s control. Boardwipe after boardwipe with select spot removal as needed. Mutilate, Feed the Swarm, Crumbling Obelisk, Nev’s Disk, etc. 5). Once the board is a smoking ruin, then you use Geth to reanimate that Seedborn Muse, Dockside Extortionist, or Sphinx of the Second Sun that you just killed. God forbid there is Mindslaver in a graveyard somewhere…. Geth is a closer; he’s NOT a mid-game piece you trot out when you’ve got nothing better to do (in most scenarios). Their best creatures and artifacts fuel you to more mana, combos, and locking the game down. 6). There really is no better way to win than with your opponent’s cardboard. 7). The best budget piece of tech in the deck is Sadistic Hypnotist, It murders hands, sacs recurrable creatures your opponents own, and thus further fuels graveyards. Best budget target: any Fleshbag Marauder variant in an opponents’ graveyard.
Well said! I loved how you used the word "trot"... made me chuckle as it is SOOO true!
Circled back around - you’re welcome. One more insight: a Geth build is a control build. It’s okay to be slower & behind if you can get a boardwipe off and stabilize. Current orthodoxy is moving away from wipes & I disagree with such a strategy with this commander. People will under estimate Get and not focus on you if they don’t know better. Once everything is wiped away and you’ve ramped, Geth essentially creates a ‘virtual’ hand of all your opponents toys for just one mana more. Look at him that way and you start to see his power.
I tried to put this deck in on TCG player but it says I’ve only 98 cards. I triple checked and don’t think I missed anything.
Hello Violet Farris, not sure if I missed a couple cards in the video or what is going on there... but here is a link to deck list which does have 100 cards, sorry about that. If you follow the link to tappedout, on the left hand side you can click an orange tcg player button which will pull up the deck with exception to the basic lands, that should get you 66 cards as the deck is running 34 basic lands. Hope that helps! tappedout.net/mtg-decks/obzedat-ghost-council-2dh/?cb=1568668763
@@BudgetCommander1 all good. I’ve already ordered it (granted, it was 96 cards by the end because Chalice of Death was unavailable and the only copy of Guile couldn’t be sent here. But that’s fine. I have a few Strixhaven cards that I can throw in that should perform decently.
@@VangolaGear Great! Best of luck enjoying your deck and happy gaming :)

Honestly I miss doing them! Been working serious overtime since last November when my state eased up on some of their restrictions.
