@@thaistabem it’s like canned frosting but with great flavor and not as sweet. A bit pudding like too. The cornstarch doesn’t affect taste or texture. It looks like a lot of cornstarch, but it’s only because it makes a lot of frosting. It’s a huge cake and it needs enough frosting to go between 4 layers and cover the surrounding. My advice is to trust the process. You won’t be disappointed. Think of it as a recipe that has been scaled up.

So I made it today and here's the review; Remember, it's a MOIST cake. Meaning a LOT of oil. The cake is super delicate, it can break way too easily. It may seem a bit mousse like here, but in reality it's just oil. Also, it's a bit too rich for my taste. Sorry it seems like I am just complaining. The thing is, if you are not going for those specific characteristics, you should stick to a more "regular" chocolate cake recipe.

I was skeptical too. but today I tried it and…. Omg…it’s literally perfect. Jsut stay safe on the cutting the cake part cuz I made a mess. It was so moist, idk. I never had a cake this moist. It’s not a bad thing at all. It just means I’m not used to handling moist cakes (but eating them is heavenly). The only ‘downside’ (honestly, idk if I can call it so), is that the icing had perfect flavour, but all the stickiness makes it hard to put on top of the cake. And since the cake is fudgy and moist, it might crumble if you’re not careful. Ehhhh jsut try it. Even the bad parts are good. The taste is top notch. 😊

I have tried out many many chocolate cake recipes but it always ended up gummy and I hate that cake sticking to my teeth feeling kind of moist.. but but but.. This one right here perfectly moist, and perfectly airy which makes it not gummy.. Thanks for this❤

OK, votes are in and the judges say 5 stars out of 5! Actually most comments were Holy Fck!! I’ve been baking cakes about 50 to 60 years and this makes my top five best list. So delicious it makes my pants fall down. Cake and frosting are moist, even after in frig over night. Although fudgy, the cake is tender, and I found it neither unctuous nor cloying. The only changes I made to the recipe are: Three 9 inch x 2 inch pans, plus 6 standard cupcakes, baked for 30 minutes I used the reverse creaming method for batter ½ cup oil plus ½ cup melted butter instead of 1 cup oil 1 cup of rum, plus 2 cups water in frosting, instead of 3 cups water

I made this and it is now my "go to" chocolate cake recipe. I took some to work and they all loved it. This is the most moist and chocolatey cake I've ever had. I normally don't like chocolate cake as it is usually dry, crumbly, and bland. I wished you posted more of these types of videos on TH-cam. I had no trouble making this cake because of how well you narrated this video. Now if you would make a video with a vanilla flavored cake that was just as good.... Thanks!
I’ve made a similar cake from preppy kitchen. I highly recommend using parchment paper because the cake is so moist it absolutely falls apart when taking out of the pan. I will be trying this soon as I always make a chocolate cake for my birthday, and I’ll let you know how it turned out.

Yum!!!! I made it over the weekend , followed the recipe to a T and turned out almost perfect… I left the “icing” on the stove for too long and was a lot thicker than the video but still tasted delish. My tip, if it starts forming into a ball on the stove watch it even closer because in seconds it can be overdone. Thanks for the recipe!

@@Nimrod.25 you can try, but I recommend doing it exactly as described for best result. It’s supposed to enhance and balance the chocolate flavor. You can’t taste espresso at all.

I was on board until you added the cornstarch to make the icing........ no, just no!!! I've had cake with cornstarch icing (that's what I call it) and it taste artificial... The cornstarch is a NO GO!!!!!!!!
You’ve never even tried my version. It doesn’t taste like cornstarch one bit. It tastes like chocolate pudding. Sorry that you’ve had bad frosting in the past, but you definitely shouldn’t rule out all frostings based on a bad batch. This tastes far from artificial.
@@nikkalcarazI was actually afraid that it was going to taste more like chocolate pudding but it doesn't to me because the addition of the chocolate shavings at the end and the butter take it from pudding to like a soft fudge consistency. You definitely don't taste cornstarch.
My Birthday is at the end of the month, my husband died on the 1st of October and i haven't celebrated my birthday really in almost 16 years, because of my grief. Everytime I see American ppl put sugar they put way too much, is that normal? Bcz Everytime i follow their recipe its too sweet that i feel like im eating sugar. But if i replace with less sugar it taste great atleast i can taste the cake(i put max200g sugar on sponge)
This is not too much sugar. It’s just enough to sweeten the bigger cocoa powder. This cake is huge so the recipe is scaled as such. This would only be sweet if this was a tiny cake. A lot of reviews say it is not sweet. You have to try for yourself to truly know.

@@hayatfatima9140 you should keep this frosting in a cool area and not directly in the sun. It does not have to be refrigerated for up to four days.

I don't know why I'm so skeptical about this... everyone is saying the cake is so good.. not a single comment complained about it... I'm definitely definitely going to make this next weekend, and if it don't turn out good, then I won't be lyin about. Gosh... I'm too curious.
I was skeptical too. but today I tried it and…. Omg…it’s literally perfect. Jsut stay safe on the cutting the cake part cuz I made a mess. It was so moist, idk. I never had a cake this moist. It’s not a bad thing at all. It just means I’m not used to handling moist cakes (but eating them is heavenly).
The only ‘downside’ (honestly, idk if I can call it so), is that the icing had perfect flavour, but all the stickiness makes it hard to put on top of the cake. And since the cake is fudgy and moist, it might crumble if you’re not careful.
Ehhhh jsut try it. Even the bad parts are good. The taste is top notch. 😊

I have tried out many many chocolate cake recipes but it always ended up gummy and I hate that cake sticking to my teeth feeling kind of moist.. but but but.. This one right here perfectly moist, and perfectly airy which makes it not gummy.. Thanks for this❤

I’ve been baking cakes about 50 to 60 years and this makes my top five best list. So delicious it makes my pants fall down. Cake and frosting are moist, even after in frig over night. Although fudgy, the cake is tender, and I found it neither unctuous nor cloying.
The only changes I made to the recipe are:
Three 9 inch x 2 inch pans, plus 6 standard cupcakes, baked for 30 minutes
I used the reverse creaming method for batter
½ cup oil plus ½ cup melted butter instead of 1 cup oil
1 cup of rum, plus 2 cups water in frosting, instead of 3 cups water
Yum. Looks about as perfect as a chocolate cake can get.

Here in LA a restaurant called Hoff's Hutt used to have the best chocolate cake. Unfortunately after covid they changed the recipe and it's just Terrible. Yours looks so much like the cake I always had from my childhood. I can't wait to make it. Seriously thank you

I made this and it is now my "go to" chocolate cake recipe. I took some to work and they all loved it. This is the most moist and chocolatey cake I've ever had. I normally don't like chocolate cake as it is usually dry, crumbly, and bland. I wished you posted more of these types of videos on TH-cam. I had no trouble making this cake because of how well you narrated this video. Now if you would make a video with a vanilla flavored cake that was just as good.... Thanks!

It’s a 9inch cake. It’s pretty big but not as big as the one in the film.
I’ve made a similar cake from preppy kitchen. I highly recommend using parchment paper because the cake is so moist it absolutely falls apart when taking out of the pan. I will be trying this soon as I always make a chocolate cake for my birthday, and I’ll let you know how it turned out.

Yum!!!! I made it over the weekend , followed the recipe to a T and turned out almost perfect…
I left the “icing” on the stove for too long and was a lot thicker than the video but still tasted delish. My tip, if it starts forming into a ball on the stove watch it even closer because in seconds it can be overdone.

I came across this video this evening with no particular plans to get my hands dirty in the kitchen, but within a few minutes i was inspired to try out your recipe. Baking is my top hobby but i must confess Prior to this ive had scarce luck with cakes, they just never turn out like they should(usually flat, and rubbery..) So you could imagine how ecstatic i was to de mould this MOIST, DENSE, SPONGY cake -and every cool synonym you can think of for a perfect chocolate cake! @@Nimrod.25 you can try, but I recommend doing it exactly as described for best result. It’s supposed to enhance and balance the chocolate flavor. You can’t taste espresso at all.
What I like about this recipe is that it does not need butter, sour cream or cake flour .. just beautiful simple ingredients 💙

I was on board until you added the cornstarch to make the icing........ no, just no!!! I've had cake with cornstarch icing (that's what I call it) and it taste artificial... The cornstarch is a NO GO!!!!!!!!
You’ve never even tried my version. It doesn’t taste like cornstarch one bit. It tastes like chocolate pudding. Sorry that you’ve had bad frosting in the past, but you definitely shouldn’t rule out all frostings based on a bad batch. This tastes far from artificial.
@@nikkalcarazI was actually afraid that it was going to taste more like chocolate pudding but it doesn't to me because the addition of the chocolate shavings at the end and the butter take it from pudding to like a soft fudge consistency. You definitely don't taste cornstarch.
If you freeze that dark chocolate bar for about 25 minutes, it will be easier to grate.

Everytime I see American ppl put sugar they put way too much, is that normal? Bcz Everytime i follow their recipe its too sweet that i feel like im eating sugar.

This is not too much sugar. It’s just enough to sweeten the bigger cocoa powder. This cake is huge so the recipe is scaled as such. This would only be sweet if this was a tiny cake. A lot of reviews say it is not sweet. You have to try for yourself to truly know.
