OMG!! I baked this for my housemate 36th birthday few days ago. It is divine!!! He invited his friends over and shared some with them, then took it to his work and then invited his family over to have some. I'm speechless how this scrumptious cake could bring so many people together. I got compliments after compliments for how good it is. Thank you.🙏🏽🫶🏽 can't wait to bake another one.❤
well... that's because it's not a buttercream frosting. If you don't make a buttercream frosting, you won't need the butter (or cream cheese... which is kind of an emulsification copout trick anyway, plus the cake has to then be refrigerated or the cream cheese sours at room temperature and the buttercream clumps and tastes rancid).
Yum!!!! I made it over the weekend , followed the recipe to a T and turned out almost perfect… I left the “icing” on the stove for too long and was a lot thicker than the video but still tasted delish. My tip, if it starts forming into a ball on the stove watch it even closer because in seconds it can be overdone. Thanks for the recipe!
There's a similar scene where a character gets hypnotized by chocolate in the movie Chocolat . The Comte gives into temptation and eats all the chocolates on a display.
Your cake looked amazing. The milk method is how I would eat it. I'm almost 60 years old and get strange looks when I eat chocolate cake this way, but I actually got this method from my grandpa. So to see that it is thing was a little surprising to me.
I made this and it is now my "go to" chocolate cake recipe. I took some to work and they all loved it. This is the most moist and chocolatey cake I've ever had. I normally don't like chocolate cake as it is usually dry, crumbly, and bland. I wished you posted more of these types of videos on TH-cam. I had no trouble making this cake because of how well you narrated this video. Now if you would make a video with a vanilla flavored cake that was just as good.... Thanks!
I baked this cake today and I am SO happy I did. This cake is decadent, moist, and the frosting was such a surprise since I've only ever made buttercream icing. Chocolate cake is always hit or miss for me, because it can go wrong in so many different ways like dryness, lack of chocolate flavour, crumbly texture etc., but this cake is definitely a hit! 🤩 My brother said he'd have to ration his portions because of how rich this cake is. I tried eating mine with the milk moat (as you suggested) and it definitely cut into the richness and added an extra layer to the experience. Thank you so much for this recipe and I can't wait till your cookbook comes out!🌟
I made this yesterday and yup, it is absolutely the best chocolate cake ever! It was the star of a dinner party. Tomorrow I am going to make it again but as cupcakes. The frosting could do with less cornstarch but also quite good.

I came across this video this evening with no particular plans to get my hands dirty in the kitchen, but within a few minutes i was inspired to try out your recipe. Baking is my top hobby but i must confess Prior to this ive had scarce luck with cakes, they just never turn out like they should(usually flat, and rubbery..) So you could imagine how ecstatic i was to de mould this MOIST, DENSE, SPONGY cake -and every cool synonym you can think of for a perfect chocolate cake! Truly magical !! awesome recipe and thank you.
I’ve made a similar cake from preppy kitchen. I highly recommend using parchment paper because the cake is so moist it absolutely falls apart when taking out of the pan. I will be trying this soon as I always make a chocolate cake for my birthday, and I’ll let you know how it turned out.
Every once in a while I find content on TH-cam that reminds me why the Internet can be such a wonderful place. Thanks for doing something different! I'm gonna try this cake asap

Reporting back to say thank you for giving this recipe away. I made this and it turned out amazingly. So moist, not too sweet, super fudgy and extremely morish. Amazing recipe and amazing work by yourself. I handed it out to many people all of which said it was the best cake they have ever eaten. Only adjustments I made was to add a bit more salt since I love salty chocolate, and also cooked for around 55 mins due to my oven.
Leaving another comment to say I finally made this cake for my birthday party! It was a MAJOR hit, everyone loved it! I tend to be picky with cake icing, but it was absolutely my favorite part of this cake! Not too heavy, not too sweet, with a perfect pudding-like consistency. Thank you for this recipe!
My Birthday is at the end of the month, my husband died on the 1st of October and i haven't celebrated my birthday really in almost 16 years, because of my grief. Well you changed that for me, i watched this video and all i can think about is making your cake, im going to the store tomorrow and getting the ingredients and I'm making the cake next Friday. Please wish me luck i can't wait to taste it. And maybe I'll share it with my kids and grandkids and maybe i won't !! It's all for me 😂 . Thank You so very much for posting your recipe your video was awesome it lured me in and made me watch. Can't wait ❤🥮🥛🍴🍷
I just want to thank you for sharing this with the world. I made it last night, and it was without a shadow of a doubt the most amazing, delicious, beautiful, and scrumptious chocolate cake that I've ever eaten 😊.
So I made it today and here's the review; Remember, it's a MOIST cake. Meaning a LOT of oil. The cake is super delicate, it can break way too easily. It may seem a bit mousse like here, but in reality it's just oil. Also, it's a bit too rich for my taste. Sorry it seems like I am just complaining. The thing is, if you are not going for those specific characteristics, you should stick to a more "regular" chocolate cake recipe.
I just pre-ordered your book. I meant to do it when I first got the notification a while back! I'm so glad I got the reminder today! I'm all set now! I hope you do a book tour to Albuquerque, though, because I sure would love to get mine signed!
I don't know why I'm so skeptical about this... everyone is saying the cake is so good.. not a single comment complained about it... I'm definitely definitely going to make this next weekend, and if it don't turn out good, then I won't be lyin about. Gosh... I'm too curious.
I was skeptical too. but today I tried it and…. Omg…it’s literally perfect. Jsut stay safe on the cutting the cake part cuz I made a mess. It was so moist, idk. I never had a cake this moist. It’s not a bad thing at all. It just means I’m not used to handling moist cakes (but eating them is heavenly). The only ‘downside’ (honestly, idk if I can call it so), is that the icing had perfect flavour, but all the stickiness makes it hard to put on top of the cake. And since the cake is fudgy and moist, it might crumble if you’re not careful. Ehhhh jsut try it. Even the bad parts are good. The taste is top notch. 😊
The way you took a bite out of that cake felt feral and makes me think you have just as much fun making these videos as you do making these treats. You've definitely earned a subscribe!
Wow ... thank you for this video. Instead of grating the chocolate, would melting then adding the mixture work? Ditto for the butter - if not, how soft is the butter when it goes into the mixture? Thank you!
So an unfertilised chicken egg is basically a chicken period and not an unborn chicken since it only contains the hen's dna. Calling an egg an unborn chicken is like calling a period an abortion.
I made this cake yesterday and my family and friends refuse to believe that have made this with my own hands. It's 100x better than the store bought ones. Please post more such videos of other flavours
I really like your video style! Its very well done and keeps you entertained - got the cake baking in the oven right now :) will know how it came out in 70-ish mins! But while its baking came here to say the production quality of this video is astounding! Really well done!
I made it yesterday but in a smaller quantity and i must say it that what i was waiting for … moist and juicy … can’t express in words 😊how divine it is
I stumbled upon this video, largely due to my fondness for the classic movie Matilda. Your eccentric, mystical vibe resonates, transporting me to an era of old-world whimsy. The eclectic, vintage aesthetic and antique attire are captivating. Your unique energy evokes the essence of a bygone era's eccentric showman. Although unconventional, the cake looks stunning. I appreciate how you've woven together nostalgia and intrigue. The quirky style and haunting background music create an immersive experience. I'm also grateful you decided to share the recipe with us, especially since you mentioned you don't typically do so. Oh, how I wish I was there to try this cake! Entered my baking arc recently and made this cake two days ago! 🧑🍳🍰🍫 Got to taste it yesterday because I finished it around 10 PM hahah 😅 too late for cake at that time! It still needed to cool a bit more too, so to the fridge it went after assembly! After tasting it, I must say it is very yummy!!! Not too sweet not too bitter! Just the perfect balance of chocolate flavor! I did struggle a bit following the recipe 🤔 I was going off audio + the instructions in the description, didn't know how long to leave the milk and vinegar mixture go for, As well as missing the text on the video of keeping it medium heat on the frosting making. Was confused on how long the frosting would take at what heat setting. Got some burned bits at the bottom of the pot from raising the temperature 🫣 Did see it in time and it turned out well! Was like magic when the hot chocolate consistency turned to frosting. Was a little scared of clumps due to having bad luck when working with cornstarch but it turned out perfect!! I accidentally ended up overbaking the cake a bit and it releases crumbs upon cutting despite following the heat and timing instructions ( I set it for 75 mins, timer had 22 mins left to go, good thing I checked with a toothpick before they got too dry. Will keep a better eye next time) However, the milk moat method quenches its thirst and makes it soooo gooooood 🤤 ough divine. Saving this recipe for sure! Shared a cut with the neighbors since it's too much cake for 3 people 🤭 hope they like it!! Ended with leftover frosting too, but I like how it keeps its shape and how rich it is! Will use it to practice piping 👌👀

He invited his friends over and shared some with them, then took it to his work and then invited his family over to have some. I'm speechless how this scrumptious cake could bring so many people together. I got compliments after compliments for how good it is. Thank you.🙏🏽🫶🏽 can't wait to bake another one.❤
I am so happy to finally find a frosting recipe that doesn't involve a ton of butter or oil and no cream cheese lol😁🤤🥰
well... that's because it's not a buttercream frosting. If you don't make a buttercream frosting, you won't need the butter (or cream cheese... which is kind of an emulsification copout trick anyway, plus the cake has to then be refrigerated or the cream cheese sours at room temperature and the buttercream clumps and tastes rancid).
Yum!!!! I made it over the weekend , followed the recipe to a T and turned out almost perfect…
I left the “icing” on the stove for too long and was a lot thicker than the video but still tasted delish. My tip, if it starts forming into a ball on the stove watch it even closer because in seconds it can be overdone.
Thanks for the recipe!
I am completely new to baking. If i wanted to make a cake half the size can i just half the ingredients or no?
@@doeeyes2yes you can
This video is so well filmed that I almost feel full just watching it, like, I feel like I’m eating with my eyes rn.
🖐🏽
omg that "pudding" style frosting is GENIUS!! You're truly an artist - thank you for sharing, I look forward to trying this recipe!! 💕
Thanks!
It's been 28 year's, and FINALLY!!! The moment we've all been waiting for 🎉😊🎉. NEW SUBSCRIBER
My childhood is thanking you right now. 😍
I could not be left alone with this cake, would end up in the ER, with no regrets. 😮
My brother said he'd have to ration his portions because of how rich this cake is.
Making a cake like this makes me nervous but cupcakes i can manage 😂
I love this vibe no matter the time of year - this is a special place on the internet, and I'm glad I found your work. Watching each of your videos and shorts feels like eating a freshly-baked cookie - it's such a treat. Thanks for putting your soul into each creation and sharing here! It's truly amazing and inspiring.
OMG❤ I just made this cake....grated the chocolate and everything!!!! WOW, my husband, who usually goes to bed at 10pm is up eating chocolate cake at 1am. It's so rich and not super sweet at all. I must own the entire cookbook
Great job! I am so glad you liked it. Thanks for following the recipe. It seems as though most people don’t 😂

You more than earned my sub today, and I cant wait to fullfill my childhood dream of FINALLY. TRYING. THAT. CAKE.
The narration is excellent, not to mention the music. I thought I was watching a movie in a Broadway theater. Thanks

@@zaidacrechel4459 Yeah seriously, it was super enjoyable from the very start
I can't tell you how much i love your format of recipe videos! So refreshing from the norm!
Whenever I crave chocolate cake, THIS is exactly what I'm wanting. I cannot wait to try this 🤤
My inner child was damn near brought to tears. Let me just say ive waited like 20 years to be able to eat this cake. And make no mistake...THIS WAS IT! SO fudgy and moist and rich! My neighbors came back for 2nds 😂 Thank You so much, new sub 🎉
If you are a lover of chocolate cake, you'll want this every year for your birthday... Hands down, THE BEST cake I've ever had in my life! I cannot thank you enough for your post, it was fun and I got a recipe that's a keeper for sure.... Gotta check out more of your videos!
I’ve always wanted that EXACT cake. Ever since I watched Matilda for the first time.
Here in LA a restaurant called Hoff's Hutt used to have the best chocolate cake. Unfortunately after covid they changed the recipe and it's just Terrible. Yours looks so much like the cake I always had from my childhood. I can't wait to make it. Seriously thank you
I actually love Matilda. What a throw back.
I made this for my daughter’s birthday last week and I’m making two more tonight. One for my family here at home and wanted to take to work. This is my favorite chocolate cake. Thank you so much..
I just made this cake and oooohhhh my gosh it is chocolate HEAVEN!!!!! I’m pregnant and this has been my biggest craving, not just chocolate cake-MATILDA chocolate cake. This hit the spot and is now gonna be my go-to chocolate cake recipe to bring to events. Also LOVE all the spooky vibes of this channel!
The production, editing AND the cake look stunning!
Each year I make the same chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday. This August I’ll break the tradition and try your recipe :)
Did you use the same amount of oil? Just a bit scared, because normally I don’t use that much oil in my cakes but really want to try this recipe 😅
Yes you do, i know this wasfor me but it works magic@@kimberlygovender8
How did it turn out?
I truly thank the algorithm. This has been the best ever chocolate cake video of my life. Its as if I could taste the cake from the screen.
The best looking chocolate cake I've ever seen! Pure decadence 😩
This caaakkkee❤❤❤ hands down the best choc cake I have ever madeee....I always used to eat cake from fancy restaurants and used to think how they make such delicious cakes....but today I made this and it was just like some high end cake shop.....My whole family loved it ....thank you so much...was on a hunt for the perfect chocolate cake for years and I can happily say now that the hunt is overrr.....thank you soooooo much❤❤❤
I've heard a lot of peoole say that cake looked gross but since I was little I've always thought that is the most delicious cake I have ever seen and Ive never seen a cake like that in real life!🤣🤣
Within 10 mins of seeing this video on my feed, I subscribed and pre ordered your book via Amazon! I had never heard of your channel until now and I’m so happy YT recommended your video yay!
@@ShinyBubbbbles awww thanks so much for your support. I am a bit new to the TH-cam scene. All my work is mostly on TikTok and IG. I’m glad to see that it is also beginning to get some love here. 🖤
I have made loads of cakes from the internet but yours is fantastic and you say everything simple. Well done and thank you ❤
Wow, I’ve never encountered a recipe that look just like the moist, rich and chocolate cake that I watched Bruce devour in that movie. You nailed it n every count 💯%
That lighting is so perfect. I wish I knew the lights and set up he used
Wow i love the vibes. All the tools, and the atmosphere, wow. The cake looks mouthwatering, too
I am in love with this video IT MAKES ME WANT TO BAKE THE CAKE. I LOVE THE ENDING OF HOW YOU DEVOURED THE CAKE AND GAVE IT THE RESPECT IT DESERVES 😂❤❤
Omg I just made it for my sister’s birthday it’s so chocolaty and decadent it tastes amazing ! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe
Love all the vintage dishes you have! I hope you decide to make more long form content here on TH-cam! I’ll be preordering that cookbook, too!
✨💜👻🐈⬛✨
this cake seems massive just by looking at the amount of each ingredient
It’s a 9inch cake. It’s pretty big but not as big as the one in the film.
0:44 Apparently, some of us are still kids today...
This is probably the most unique and interesting aesthetics to a cooking video I have ever seen and I'm 100% here for it. Earned my sub.
There is a third way. Serve with Baily’s Irish Cream
So I made it today and here's the review;
Remember, it's a MOIST cake.
@1:12 or you could use lemon juice or buttermilk…
I just pre-ordered your book. I meant to do it when I first got the notification a while back! I'm so glad I got the reminder today! I'm all set now! I hope you do a book tour to Albuquerque, though, because I sure would love to get mine signed!
The world needs more people like you
I don't know why I'm so skeptical about this... everyone is saying the cake is so good.. not a single comment complained about it...
@@christa4172I wanna try make it but maybe freeze the cake so it’s firmer
Maybe that might be better
@@christa4172 Thanks so much for the advice
What I like about this recipe is that it does not need butter, sour cream or cake flour .. just beautiful simple ingredients 💙

Cake is not salad. It’s indulgence.
That's why this is for very special occasions only.
@@keerangovender1179 thank you! Keep an eye on that cake. Everyone’s oven bakes a little different.
I made it yesterday but in a smaller quantity and i must say it that what i was waiting for … moist and juicy … can’t express in words 😊how divine it is
I swear it's the best recipe I've ever made. Simply you can say it's a dream recipe. I really lov3d it. Thanx dear chef. Now I started following you❤
I stumbled upon this video, largely due to my fondness for the classic movie Matilda. Glad I discovered your channel; looking forward to exploring more content. Great video
Now that I’m proofreading my comment I sound old as shit even though I’m far from old you’re odd I love it
That is the most beautiful glossy frosting I’ve ever seen! I can’t wait to make this! Thank you.
Entered my baking arc recently and made this cake two days ago! 🧑🍳🍰🍫
Got to taste it yesterday because I finished it around 10 PM hahah 😅 too late for cake at that time!
It still needed to cool a bit more too, so to the fridge it went after assembly!
After tasting it, I must say it is very yummy!!!
Not too sweet not too bitter! Just the perfect balance of chocolate flavor!
I did struggle a bit following the recipe 🤔
I was going off audio + the instructions in the description, didn't know how long to leave the milk and vinegar mixture go for,
As well as missing the text on the video of keeping it medium heat on the frosting making.
Was confused on how long the frosting would take at what heat setting. Got some burned bits at the bottom of the pot from raising the temperature 🫣
Did see it in time and it turned out well!
Will keep a better eye next time)
However, the milk moat method quenches its thirst and makes it soooo gooooood 🤤 ough divine. Saving this recipe for sure!
Shared a cut with the neighbors since it's too much cake for 3 people 🤭 hope they like it!!
Ended with leftover frosting too,
but I like how it keeps its shape and how rich it is!
Will use it to practice piping 👌👀
ohmgod my TH-cam fyp knows me way too well 😭 I've literally DREAMED of tasting this cake, now I FINALLY can!!!!
THANK you so much I can only imagine how long it took you to workshop a recipe as decadent as this, plus your video quality & editing looks top notch and I love how you actually listed the recipe in the description!!! ❤
please please make more videos! subbed btw! 👍
This is the best choco cake recipe i have ever tried! I love how the chocolate ganache is so smooth and rich without a lot of butter. Thank you for sharing this recipe ❤❤❤
I hesitated to make it, it looked so complicated but with my breaks on and off, I did it and it is the most delicious chocolate cake I've ever baked and made :), as soon as one of my boys came home he ate it just like Bruce! Thank you so much for the recipe.
