This is the moment a brave buffalo charged three lions after they grabbed a young calf from the herd.
The hungry lions crept up on the buffalo and calf in north-west Tanzania, East Africa, causing them to disperse in a terrifying 90-second ordeal.
While the majority of the buffalo escaped, one animal turned back and stood firm against the lions in a bid to protect its young.

Buffalo show incredible empathy. There were two or three other mature buffaloes that attacked the lions to save the calf. It's funny that I've heard animal experts state that they're not the brightest but they certainly do show emotional intelligence. I've seen multiple videos of buffalo defending their own kind and attacking lions at their own risk. Great stuff as the lions rarely die, they are simply rebuffed and go find another prey. Although it is interesting to see where evolution takes the buffalo. If they become too strong or intelligent for lions to hunt at a consistent rate, then lions would have to adapt as well.
African Buffalo yes. State side Buffalo will plow the adolescent over to give the rest a better chance at survival.

I think the buffalos over there have to be evolving or something, they seem to be very aggressive when they need to be. If they learn to stick together and fight in teams, lions would no longer be "king of the jungle"

+AngryKitty There is only one King of the Jungle and that would be the Jaguar,, "since it actually lives in the jungle", Lions do not live in jungles they live in the desert plains and open savannahs of Africa where they hunt in numbers "usually the lionesses doing all the work" taking down gazelle, wildebeest, Zebra most often, to feed the pride, while the Jaguar hunts alone and kills giant Anaconda and black Caiman just for the fun of it.

Hmm... there was this other big cat I heard of once though, that does actually live in the jungle and might be more of a king than a jaguar. T something... teeger, tager, tooger, taygur, something like that.

I'm confused how buffalo's haven't grown to understand that they have strength in numbers and would demolish a pack of lions by outnumbering them. I feel like after this instance buffalos would never run from lions again so long as they're in a pack, but then again i'm no nature expert
Many herds are full of cows who are more concerned about the young and aren't as quick to fight, while the Bulls are known to charge, even by themselves they chase lions. This herd looks like it has both bulls and cows, however different seasons for the animal causes the herds to change in size and gender. The cow in this video was quick to charge because it was her calf.

Notice the returning buffaloes offering protection are mature older bulls with their wider impressive horns. They are often referred to as the 'vanguard' of a buffalo herd.
