Agreed, and so is 'Tyr' - I always have the opening strains of "Anno Mundi" running through my head when it's late September/early October and the skies are changing.....
Folks embroiled in the Dio vs. Ozzy controversy missed the entire Tony Martin era. It was brilliant and this is an amazing cover of an amazing song. Thank you, Sorcerer!
The Tony Martin years (especially the "Headless Cross" album) were massively influential to the European power metal wave in the nineties and beyond. That influence in America was, unfortunately, not as great due to the competing hair metal/grunge trends, but I loved all the nineties Sabbath albums.
There was nothing wrong with "hair" glam metal, great genre lots of great bands, albums and songs. Hell, Van Halen were the first. It was the trendy grunge and alternative in the 90s, and then the worst abomination of all the trendy anti metal nu metal that was the problem.
I think the Sabbath purist dimwits were a major problem here, too. "It's not Ozzy!" "It's not Dio!" WAAAAAH! Yes, I know why both guys were vital to metal, but they eventually did their own thing(s), too. However, Sabbath soldiered on, and the Tony Martin albums were terrific!
Sharon being a vindictive bitch and strong arming venues to not have post Ozzy Sabbath play there and a shit record deal with I.R.S. were major factors. Tony Martin era Sabbath is an overlooked monster.
I was in high school when Headless Cross and Tyr were released, so the Martin years are "my" era of Sabbath, and hands down my fave. And yeah, that incarnation was highly influential in the Swede scene and beyond, with Sorcerer (beginning with their demo comp from '95), Evergrey, Tad Morose, Mundanus Imperium, and many more.
