I live in fear of this podcast being cancelled so I feel that I have to say - it may be a pretty niche topic, but for those of us in that niche this whole thing is an absolute dream. It’s hard to come across something in this tight of a format devoted solely to this topic and the fact that you’re bringing guests on who are as big name as anyone can be on theme park youtube is something so special in my opinion as someone who has wished and yearned and longed for people to have these insanely specialized discussions with. This is my fav thing on youtube right now!! Word will spread in our small but mighty circle!! Defunctland wasn’t built in a day!!!!
Ryan here, just want to thank you for saying this. We made this show because we wanted to watch a show like this and because we truly love theme parks. This comment will power Byron and I for months. We appreciate the support that you or anybody that watches this silly little show is willing to give us! This comment legitimately made my day.
I would like to second in saying that I absolutely adore this podcast. I was missing Disneyland a couple of weeks ago and really wanted to go back to any theme parks but didn’t really have the funds for it (i think it was around the time the second episode Jurassic World was released). Listening to this every week, allows me to enjoy the parks and rides without having to be there. Listening to the history and opinions of others who enjoy this topic is such a joy. Please keep up your amazing work and continue to have fun doing so!
My favorite memory of this ride was waiting in line with a pair of nuns a few people in front of me. While loading the cast member asked the sisters if they’ve ever ridden before. They said it’s their first time and the cast member with the biggest grin ever says “I hope you enjoy it!”. We saw them as they came back. Their faces were in absolute shock before they both broken down laughing so hard they started to cry.
Back when Disneyland was reopening from Covid and it was only cast members in the park doing test and adjust, I got to ride this ride by myself with literally no one else on the whole ride and it might be one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced.
Honestly I'm not a Disney fan, and I've only even been to a Disney park once but somehow this podcast is still entertaining to listen to at work. Something about the pure enthusiasm Ryan and Bryon have for theme park rides is so charming, and the history behind them is genuinely interesting.
Ryan spoke directly to me when he asked why someone would even be here if they’ve never been on this ride. I didn’t grow up going to many amusement parks, and I have never been to Disneyland (went to WDW for the first time ever in May, though!), but somehow, the Saddest Pod was such a perfect “friends talking about nonsense” tone that it became such a comfort listen during and even after the pandemic. Somehow that snowballed into watching Defunctland and other theme park content. I was hoping they would start Saddest Pod back up again, but this might be even better since it can cover different parks (some that I may have even been to lol). I hope you bring Amanda as a guest sometime!
AGREED! I think she should be on an episode about “Frozen Ever After” or maybe a discussion about Evermore. I just miss Jenny though so anything would be awesome 😭
FUN FACT they actually can’t update the ride with digital enhancements because they tried to before but they couldn’t because the foundation of the ride is too old and they would have to completely knock down the ride to update it, so they just left it alone. So it probably will be exactly the same 100 years from now!!
Kanobles has a haunted house with a similar train scene to mr toad, but it’s proceeded by something like 10 seconds of darkness and silence. I have never screamed so gutturally on any other ride, and I’ve been to something like 30 parks in the US. So loud, so bright, so scary
As someone who has never been on this ride, nor even to Disney, I must inform Ryan I'm here listening to this because I appreciate his work and want to support his channel. Butthead😂😂
Another fun fact about the extinct Magic Kingdom Mr. Toad, when you are exiting the Haunted Mansion, if you look at the pet cemetery you will see a statue of Mr. Toad I think the statue was from the actual ride and was put there after it closed, but I am not 100% sure.
I went to Disneyland a handful of times growing up, but it took me until I was 29 to go on Mr. Toad. I had no idea what to expect, and what I got was totally chaotic and unhinged, and I absolutely loved it. It's an experience I'll truly never forget
One of the weirdos who hasn't been on these rides but I love watching as I love all the little details you find out about the design and story. Don't mind the "spoilers" Thanks! OH and PS there is Latin on Toad Hall as in the UK, it's a sign of the "upper class", super posh kids are taught Latin at school.
I rode this as a child and was absolutely terrified because that hell room was so hot and as a child I absolutely believed it. I love it so much now. I make sure to drag my friends to it since it's short wait, unexpectedly scary with its claustrophobically close cutouts, and just a fun time. I'm so excited this ride is covered in this podcast because while my friends enjoy it, I'm the only one that is weirdly stoked about this ride. Glad I'm with fellow Mr. Toad enthusiasts!
Ayyyy great to see Poseidon on here! He’s my personal favorite theme park content creator so it’s nice to see him here getting recognition like Defunctland and Offhand get. He is sort of a niche creator in an already niche category that I happen to fall right into lol. This pod has been totally on the money so far!
48:11 Ryan I have no horse in this race whatsoever, I've never been to any of these parks, but this moment had me SO tense! 😂 I was rooting for Mr. Toad! Glad you didn't give in to the self-doubt! Toad wins! 🎉
I love the cult classic theme park rides. Sometimes a lot more than what would be considered “world class”. They add so much to the overall park experience and I’m glad to see people who love them as much as I do.
okay i just wanna say i have been to maybe one theme park in my entire life and rollercoasters terrify me but i fully listen to every episode of this podcast just because i wanna support y’all and i love the history aspect of it all
Genuinely, one of my favorite things is knowing what people think about rides because everyone’s tastes are so different and varied and I love hearing the passion behind the admiration (or possible distaste in the future). It’s a fun conversation and helps bring things into new light! I’m glad this podcast exists!
I am not a parkhead. I didn't even think amusement parks were interesting, but I started watching these podcasts and now I desperately want to go to theme parks constantly. Fascinating.
Just wanted to echo some of the comments here and say that this podcast is everything i ever wanted and i am so glad it exists. I’m from South America and the only US theme park i’ve ever been to is Disney World, so this is an amazing way to get to know more about rides i’ll probably never get to experience. I’m certain the podcast will grow, as it deserves to, and i’ll be glad to say i was here to witness it from the beginning!
Just went on this ride for the first time a couple days ago. I had no idea what it was going to be like and had a blast. Coming out my jaw to the floor, I was totally surprised that a ride like this was in Disney Land, it’s now one of my top rides for sure. Best part is my sister took photos of my other sister and I coming out of the ride and our faces are priceless
Please don't ever cancel this show! It has become my all time favorite comfort podcast to watch. I am a fairly new disney adult/amusement park enthusiast as I did not have the opportunity to go as a kid so having all these new fun facts in my arsenal is making my trips to the parks even MORE fun. I can't get enough of theme park content so please keep it up! ❤️
I’ve always loved Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. My favorite little detail has always been feeling your car bump over the railroad tracks as you approached the train. It was a little detail that Disney used to be known for. Also, I can’t remember specifically how long the wait was, but as a kid I remember queuing for Mr Toad in a line that switchbacked in that courtyard to the left of the entrance. It may not have been a full hour, but it sure felt like it.
I wanna hop in and mention that I listen to this pod because I've never been to any of the parks, never ridden any of the rides, and I probably won't. I'm impatient (I'm from the Midwest, I don't do well in lines), I'm terrified of spending money (millennial), and I get anxious in crowds. I usually find a video of the ride you're going to talk about, watch it, and then hop over here to listen to what a couple of enthusiasts think about the ride. It's a pleasant window into this whole amusement park world I know nothing about, and I look forward to each one!
I absolutely loved this ride. Little 8 year old me and my brother rode the Disney World version. My dad was teasing us for our poor driving as we spun the steerig wheel. When the train ran over us we were desperately clutching the wheel and screaming while my dad laughed maniacally. And the hell scene? We were a little scared for sure. The shock of suddenly being thrown back into reality at the end of the ride still sticks with me. We were very quiet and confused. I was devastated when I learned the ride was gone. I hope I can visit the Disneyland ride one day.
Just to echo the beautifully articulated comment by Abbie above: I will be absolutely devastated if this podcast ever ends. If there's a way for me to increase my Watcher Patreon contribution specifically to keep this podcast going, PLEASE let me know. I work in the themed entertainment design industry and have forwarded links of FYA to friends both in and out of the industry because of how much I love it. Thank you Ryan and Byron for making it! I also love that the creation of the pod allows us to have a little community here in the comments and on Discord.
This podcast just blew my freaking mind. I’ll tell you why. 27:45. I’ve ridden Disneyland’s Mr. Toad literally over a hundred times, and somehow I NEVER noticed you transitioned through a devils mouth to get into hell.
Ok I need to say this. Every ride you’ve posted has been a ride I was obsessed with as a child and teen. I don’t live in San Diego anymore and am on the east coast now. This gives me so much comfort. Love knowing more.
I went to Disney World when I was five years old and there are only certain things you remember from trips at that age, but I remember Mister Toad’s Wild Ride. It was my favorite ride. We had to do it multiple times each day. Every child wants to spin that wheel and pretend they are driving like a maniac.
I really hope this podcast keeps going, it's become my favourite thing to listen to while working. I frequent Canada's Wonderland, and I had no idea there were so many elaborate rides with stories and innovation. I'm used to the pure shock value of insane drops, I want the stories!
I don't go to a lot of theme parks and I've only been to universal/disneyland once each even though i live in cali, but i REALLY enjoy this podcast and hearing y'all talk about rides and their history. I'll keep listening and supporting
Always have loved Poseidon’s videos but their takes on this ride (also my favorite ride) brought me so much joy. It being their first stop, tiny demon figments, and loving seeing people burst through the fireplace. Just yes. Currently semi-binging all For Your Amusement videos.
Popping in to say I’ve never been to any of the Disney parks and as much as I’d love to, I know I’m not going to be able to experience these rides anytime soon. That being said I love listening to this podcast and genuinely look forward to it every week. Just wanted to let y’all know you’re doing great ❤️
If you guys are taking suggestions at all, I’d love to see you cover the loch ness monster roller coaster at busch gardens williamsburg, also the demolished big bad wolf roller coaster! love this podcast !!!!!
If they were to upgrade Mr. Toad wild ride with todays tech, I could see Mr. Toads Wild Ride be a Radiator Springs type of ride system. You can have all the great dark ride scenes with advanced animatronics in the show building and just have a race at the end of the ride.
For the algorithm: I really enjoy this podcast, and adding the rubric at the end makes it a unique podcast in a somewhat saturated "podcast about theme parks space" Hope you keep it going as long as you can!
I love this pod so much, highlight of the week. I love history being mixed with fun. I also love debriefing my husband on the tomfoolery. We just traveled home for thanksgiving and spent hours deciding if rides are world class. Cant wait for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey to see which one of us was correct.
I absolutely LOVE MR Toads ride! It’s become the family favorite. I have also loved the devil rat! When my kids were growing up we had annual passes and got into the pins. I would get the villain ones. Every time I would complain to the family that the devil rat was never made
I'm not even a theme park enthusiast or anything but I sure do love watching a couple of dudes talking about how much they love these rides. Keep it up!
Once upon a time Disney respected children to handle darker and more mature themes in their movies and theme park rides. It’s a shame they play everything so safe and cautious
I thought this was awesome, Poseidon is easily my favorite TH-camr but the format of this podcast has really caught my attention. I will definitely be checking out more.
need an episode on dinosaur, rode it for the first time as an adult and it was way faster and scarier than expected, all the kids that went on it came out sobbing
This ride is a core memory for my mom, it was one of the only times she got to experience her father (a very stern immigrant man) be jovial and openly silly. It brings her so much joy every time she recounter her experience and though I have never experienced this ride myself. I love it because she does.
Hello it's me, a viewer who got spoiled about the ending lol. I just like listening to you guys talking passionately about things you really love. Watcher content in general honestly lol. However, I'm not a person who really likes theme parks or places with lots of people in general but you've made me curious about going to some of these rides. They sound super fun.
Thank you for making this podcast guys!!! One of favorite TH-cam topics is theme parks, and I love everyone at watcher! Also, props to amazing guests so far!
Mr Toad has been one of my favorite rides since I first went to Disneyland as a kid. I took my boyfriend to Disneyland for the first time last year and the level of concern he had as someone who knew nothing about the ride was hilarious to watch! This episode made me so happy to hear about other people who also love this absolutely absurd ride
love this podcast!! I'm from the Netherlands and haven't been to most of these theme parks yet so I love learning about new rides and hearing you guys' opinions on them
It’s makes sense the “going to hell” because if you ever went to a carnival back in the day there was always an attraction to “go to hell” mini coaster as often as you’d see a fun house walk through.
I’ve been a long-time watcher of watcher (ha) and after discovering this podcast yesterday, ive already binged every episode 😭 Theme parks are one of my biggest life-time interests and i absolutely can’t wait for more episodes. hats off to you guys, the passion behind each episode so far is so clear
Eating out of my Mr. Toad popcorn bucket while I watch this one. I'm absolutely GIDDY that somebody is doing such a unique and fascinating podcast like this - Ryan and Byron, you're absolutely killing it. Every episode has been so so delightful and I can't shut up about how much fun I have watching. That being said, as someone with a tattoo of Mr. Toad, a Mr. Toad enamel pin collection, and a reputation for going on this ride as many times as my friends will let me, this episode has been a real highlight for me so far. I'd watch y'all do this for every single theme park attraction.
In regards to wishing your mind could be erased, I was a tween/teen in the 80’s, and went to WDW like every other year w/my fam. I was (still am) a big chicken, and had a top thrill tolerance of the Pirates drop (don’t laugh). So I would count on my brother to tell me if he thought I could handle each ride or not. Well, for some reason, I think he actually thought that I would be to scared by the the hell part, (I would not - I’m only averse to heights/motion), and warned me against it. So I completely missed the Orlando one even though I could have gone on it many times, and literally only got to experience it going to DL the first time last October. Needless to say I loved it, but yeah, I already knew about the being sent to hell part…. So funny, though… I def would’ve been one of the protesters in Orlando if I had known how good it was lol
Tuning in to say that listening/watching this pod has become one of my new favorite things! As someone who grew up going to theme parks often, I yearn for the sensations and thought process I had when I was younger on these rides. It’s very engaging and hits home in a niche way?! Keep on doing what you’re doing! Myself and a lot of others will definitely keep listening 🎉
I've been to Disneyland multiple times, but never really looked into the history of theme parks, so it's fun to hear about what went into the making of attractions as well as the differences between the same iterations of rides at the different parks.
A Mr. Toad movie where they build up the whole thing, ratchet up the tension, an enormous, dramatic scene where he is sent to hell itself, condemned forever, and he gives no fucks and just drives right through not only the walls of Hell but the literal stakes of the plot and busts out into his house, turns the key in the ignition and hops out for some toast before it just cuts to credits, no post scene, would own bones, and you may quote me on that
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is STILL one of my favorites at Disneyland! Since I was a kid, going to hell as part of a ride, was fascinating, and I love the motor car you ride in.
This is my favorite podcast. The guest speakers and the formula are perfect. I look forward to seeing this exhaust all the rides in Disney and venture off to Sea World, Knott's, Dollywood, Vegas, and the many roadside attractions across America!
my boyfriend rode this ride for the first time a few years ago and I will never forget his reaction to hell, "did we just die? ARE WE IN HELL?!" It's one of my favorite Disneyland memories
I agree whole heartedly ! please don’t stop this even if it’s only the three of us watching 🤣
Heck ill watch every episode of this even having never been to a theme park in my life, you're giving me the itch though ❤
SAME! My autism brain is so scratched right now. I absoultely love theme park history and this podcast has been so fun to listen to 🥺
This may be a dumb question but are Kevin Perjurer and Poseidon Entertainment related in some way? They look remarkably similar
They also both have deep voices 🤔
My favorite memory of this ride was waiting in line with a pair of nuns a few people in front of me. While loading the cast member asked the sisters if they’ve ever ridden before. My favorite thing about this is how seriously the two of you look at the skeletal guest when they're talking.
I was just thinking the same thing and came to the comments to see if anyone else was thinking it. 😂
Love your username!
@@gr33ngirlsea Aww thank you!
I’m realizing the overlap between Watcher fans and theme park nerds is much bigger than I realized and I LOVE IT.
Honestly I'm not a Disney fan, and I've only even been to a Disney park once but somehow this podcast is still entertaining to listen to at work. Something about the pure enthusiasm Ryan and Bryon have for theme park rides is so charming, and the history behind them is genuinely interesting.

She'll be on here soon and she's bringing her favorite ride with her!
If you haven’t already, I hope you guys can have Jenny Nicholson on an episode in the future!
AGREED! I think she should be on an episode about “Frozen Ever After” or maybe a discussion about Evermore. I just miss Jenny though so anything would be awesome 😭
Ryans reached out to her via Twitter about checking her DMs. But no clue if she got back to him. So theyre trying!
oh my gosh that would be perfect
Boy do I have a treat for you jajaja
FUN FACT they actually can’t update the ride with digital enhancements because they tried to before but they couldn’t because the foundation of the ride is too old and they would have to completely knock down the ride to update it, so they just left it alone. So it probably will be exactly the same 100 years from now!!
I only know this because my mom used to work with the imagineers who update the rides lol

It's so cool to hear Poseidon in a context outside of his own videos! What a fun crossover
Love your videos. You’re one of my favorites along with Defunctland and Poseidon.
@@sharptojo6420 Thank you kindly!!
As someone who has never been on this ride, nor even to Disney, I must inform Ryan I'm here listening to this because I appreciate his work and want to support his channel. Butthead😂😂
"i think we have 5 listeners" proud to be one of the 5 then lmao
The idea of For Your Amusement being the “Mr Toad’s Wild Ride” of the podcast world just brings me so much joy
Another fun fact about the extinct Magic Kingdom Mr. Toad, when you are exiting the Haunted Mansion, if you look at the pet cemetery you will see a statue of Mr. Toad
I think the statue was from the actual ride and was put there after it closed, but I am not 100% sure.
Please never stop making this podcast, theme park content rules
I really hope we get Yesterworld as a guest! Great work boys!
I second this!!
I went to Disneyland a handful of times growing up, but it took me until I was 29 to go on Mr. Toad. I had no idea what to expect, and what I got was totally chaotic and unhinged, and I absolutely loved it. It's an experience I'll truly never forget
I think the fact they made the average person feel something really strongly is an argument that this ride is art.
One of the weirdos who hasn't been on these rides but I love watching as I love all the little details you find out about the design and story. Don't mind the "spoilers" Thanks! Y'all are getting such cool collabs. I'm loving this.
I subbed to Mike From The Party right before this pod started and I must say- HE NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT ON. King of amusement parks.

Poseidon Entertainment’s end to the episode was more surprising than the end to the ride!
The portrait Poseidon is referring to is a parody of the famous painting called “Blue Boy”. 20:11

As a theme park fan who has exhausted my friends with my fun facts, this podcast is a godsend. I'm SO EXCITED for a dark ride to be covered ugh
You giys should also consider interviewing cast members about some of their Disney rides and stories
So addicted to this podcast I’m going back to watch the older episodes already😭

Always have loved Poseidon’s videos but their takes on this ride (also my favorite ride) brought me so much joy. It being their first stop, tiny demon figments, and loving seeing people burst through the fireplace. Just yes. Currently semi-binging all For Your Amusement videos.
dude you getting all the biggest theme park people on here is giving me my life
I have to say Ryan's reaction at the end is just so hilarious😅
Popping in to say I’ve never been to any of the Disney parks and as much as I’d love to, I know I’m not going to be able to experience these rides anytime soon. That being said I love listening to this podcast and genuinely look forward to it every week. Just wanted to let y’all know you’re doing great ❤️
I LOVE taking Disneyland first-timers on this ride. Pure magic.
I absolutely loved this ride as a 32 year old who experienced it two months ago for the first time. I am pumped that you did this ride for an ep!
If you guys are taking suggestions at all, I’d love to see you cover the loch ness monster roller coaster at busch gardens williamsburg, also the demolished big bad wolf roller coaster! love this podcast !!!!!
this is my favorite topic please never stop making these episodes
This is podcast is my new happy place
If they were to upgrade Mr. Toad wild ride with todays tech, I could see Mr. Toads Wild Ride be a Radiator Springs type of ride system. You can have all the great dark ride scenes with advanced animatronics in the show building and just have a race at the end of the ride.
For the algorithm:
I really enjoy this podcast, and adding the rubric at the end makes it a unique podcast in a somewhat saturated "podcast about theme parks space"
Hope you keep it going as long as you can!
Oh my gosh, I love Poseidon Entertainment! This podcast is such a fun and unexpected overlap of my interests
I truly love this show. Please keep this running for as long as you can! I will listen to every episode
I downloaded this podcast for my flight and I just spent the last 11 hours listening to these on repeat… and I loved it😄
Can’t wait for more!!
I love this episode, Mr. Toad was my mom's favorite ride.
2:03 excuse me?! Kenneth Grahame is famously SCOTTISH
Quite right!🏴🏴🏴💪
Mr Toad has been one of my favorite rides since I first went to Disneyland as a kid.
I live vicariously through this podcast, visiting the rides you discuss in my head. Keep up the great work.
POSEIDOOONNNN thank yiu for having him 🥺🥺🥺💝 well guess im making it a point to ride the mr toad ride next time
I've been to Disneyland multiple times, but never really looked into the history of theme parks, so it's fun to hear about what went into the making of attractions as well as the differences between the same iterations of rides at the different parks.
Just discovered all these great theme park podcasts you've done! So many great things to watch now
A Mr. Toad movie where they build up the whole thing, ratchet up the tension, an enormous, dramatic scene where he is sent to hell itself, condemned forever, and he gives no fucks and just drives right through not only the walls of Hell but the literal stakes of the plot and busts out into his house, turns the key in the ignition and hops out for some toast before it just cuts to credits, no post scene, would own bones, and you may quote me on that
Ironically for it not winning... I think this means I'll be riding this one if I ever get the chance. Y'all made it sound really fun!
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is STILL one of my favorites at Disneyland! Since I was a kid, going to hell as part of a ride, was fascinating, and I love the motor car you ride in.
I was sad when the Magic Kingdom's one closed. It is really cool off-beat ride.
I love that Ryan always makes eye contact with his guests.
You’ve had all the best guests 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
