I soldered the two wires of my diy CD solar panel on the power cable of my CD player. When I to put the CD in it starts playing music everywhere, no more wall plug required ! Awesome ! And don`t forget to remove the cover of the cd player for better light conditions. I usually take this setup with for more fun while I feed the trolls.
for that voltage and the time lost, i'd rather pay extra for a solar cell XD its so much better than attempting this

A lot of work to get half a volt. Thats not even worth the oxigene you have breathed while doing that project or the multimeter battery.
if you ask me this was the most inefficient and costly solar panel project! If you bought two lemons for the price of one zener diode, you can have a better source of free energy even in the dark.

Diodes and LEDs generate slight power with sunlight.
well its pretty simple, LEDs and diodes are almost same thing with few settle differences which can be advantageous for specific purpose. LED's are producing light photons when there is excess electrons going through the wires in a specific direction. In opposite scenario where there is excess light photons that LED can collect, it would produce electrons to pass through the wire. Because the LEDs are designed for producing photons to create light, it is not the best of things to use to get electricity which is why people make specific versions of pretty much same part which are designed to collect the light instead of producing it, whilst still working on the same principle. Such parts are not very much commercially available to buy in single units mainly because such components are made packly integrated to fit as many of them as they can for as cheaply as possible and those are called solar panels as we know them. But then again, just packing as much light in small area as possible doesnt help either because the panels can heat up reducing their efficiency which is why they tend to integrate cooling systems inside the solar panels to make them more efficient. Although it seems very simple in the video. Well... the real thing usually isnt :D

use a fast switching diode so you can harness hi frequency radio waves and converted to dc for higher voltage and current the more the higher and use a thicker aluminum reflector for max efficiency like the big building doing using microwave energy harness

You can use whatever size you want, you can run them in parallel, you can run them in series, you can do all sorts of different things, diodes are the only thing you need
alot of efforts and diodes have to use to get nearly 1 volt. is it possible to get more than 3 volts?
Terribly inefficient, but still works. Diodes actually produce a small amount of electricity when light hits them. Get thousands of LEDS and you can make a solar panel. But in this case, power output will be unable to power anything.

A solar cell you think? Ok it does generate some voltage but what about the current? Plus if you didn't know already diodes create voltage drop, just like resistors and some other components, so you want to get free energy, while on the circut itself you loose quiet a lot of it.

Add a variable load resistance and measure the current AND voltage. Voltage without significant current capability is useless actually. A potato voltaic cell will generate a voltage but there are not many potato cars on the highway. :-)

Como experimento esta muy bien. Pero la inversión en semiconductores y tiempo supera el valor de una placa solar y no digamos el rendimiento, 0,8v no es mucho cuando hay placas del mismo tamaño que te ofrecen 5v.
zenner diodes can run power forward and reverse not like a typical diode which means system could leak energy from battery backwards instead of charging battery it could drain power not create it if not done right

Yeah those diodes and solder is way cheaper than a 100w solar panel. Hell half a volt is okay too, so like around 36 you have 18v. Dvds are like 5 bucks for 20-30. This is cool.

you also got to remember its a freaking CD with parts he got off what i'm assuming was from scrap electronics. Its not that practical alone but it dose make a good video that just gave him over a million views and is also interesting. Anyway like the others said if you really want nine volts just strap a bunch together or just buy one big one that gives you more

Free energy, not really. The cost of the diodes, wire, solder, electricity for the soldering iron make this impractical for the most part. You could by a solar light that puts out more power for less than this cost. But this is more of a proof of concept video so it's not bad.
