I've had about 20 of their letters over the past few years and I'm still eagerly awaiting a visit. When they eventually do turn up, I'm not going to be able to contain my excitement!

Apparently they've been threatening to invade my new home to be for the past few years . I just watch TH-cam, not the "lives " I don't wish to be rude when you have several hosts on a live you get people cutting across and talking at the same time ... forget it ! I just stick to streaming and cast it to my TV so I get the whole TV experience 😁😁😁😁
I had a visit. Wasn't in so they left a note. Now another threatening letter addressed to 'The Legal Occupier'.
Finally i've had enough. Put on it "Not known at this address. Return to sender "

You are correctly licensed because you've researched what license you require. A lot of people don't know whether they need a license and TVL hide the facts so people buy one whether they need it or not. You're doing a good job of educating members of the public Jon, keep it up!!

Yes Chilli, how DO they get away with it? Someone in Ofcom or like body is clearly turning a blind eye to this appalling conduct and ‘they’ are supposed to oversee certain organisations to ensure they behave in a reasonable way. Suppose it boils down to what ‘some’ authorities call “reasonable”.
A bit like our WEF controlled Government.
Unfortunately, the law on the Statue books is worded in such a way that gives them the right to get away with it. It is a pathetic law, which in my opinion goes against common law and international law (fundamental right to be treated as innocent until proven guilty is also an international human right under Article 11 of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.) This private company, owned by Capita, are treating everyone as guilty under UK law, until they "assess" you as innocent and our politicians won't do anything about it!
If I sent letters to MP's telling them they are guilty of murder because that sharp knife in their kitchen COULD be used to murder someone, there would be out-roar and so there should. Just because I own a TV does not mean I am guilty of using it to watch LIVE TV or recording it or using iPlayer!

The threatening letters should be reported to the Advertising Standards Authority as it's more like a disguised advert rather than useful information.

Just had mine today. To the occupier . Also I am neither Sir or Madam lol. I have 10 days to respond or ger licenced. I do not need one, I told a goon this a few months ago and I wil never respond to them and these threats, however I can see why some feel scared by this. My housemate and landlord is 60 and I have now convinced him to cancel it from over a year ago as we do not watch anything that requires one. He was one paying out of fear of being in trouble. Shocking behaviour, told him to let me deal with it. Thanks for your videos xx
Chilli - got this exact letter today ! Different date though we’ve got until Feb 8th. Been in the property for 7 months now. 2 visits and 6 letters I think maybe 7, they all get shredded after I write below the line.

I've been taking your advice for a while now. I've had some very threatening letters, but they're now a source of amusement that I actually enjoy receiving.
If somebody has a Sky subscription that they obviously pay for, and they watch Sky live, why should they have to pay the BBC for that?
It's like buying Cornflakes from Tesco, then Asda send you a letter saying you owe them money for it.
These people are still perceiving themselves as they were in a bygone era, where they were seen as the be all and end all of broadcasting.

I don't watch TV and haven't for many months. So I finally decided to cancel the licence but I can say in the last couple of years or maybe 3 years (I forget) there has only been one series that I enjoyed by them so it's not worth it.

Right after cancelling another letter came through saying the usual "are you sure you don't need a licence?". Also the letter says "we might send round officers to check" and in the letter they tried to make it look like watching youtube means you need a licence. They can sod off!

I've had umpteen of those as well as the ones with the IN0 number or the one warning of a visit on (or near) a certain date. I've yet to have anybody of the investigators or enforcement/sales officer knocking on my door. I still live in hope that one day they will.

I have had my fourth email regarding payment of TV licence via direct debit, “which can’t be followed through due to the fact we don’t have your updated details”. No, you don’t have that because, I told you I don’t need a TV licence because I DONT watch BBC or BBC I player or any live TV programmes. Catch up TV only NO BBC ever! Hang on a minute, if I write to someone demanding that they pay for a service you do not use, and threaten action if they do not pay, that is a criminal offense, that of "Demanding Money With Menaces", a crime that can result, not only in a criminal record, but a serious fine or imprisonment for repeat offenses. So when they call on me, I will video their conversation and then tell them that I have the evidence to arrest them, as a citizen, there and then, followed by calling the police and insisting action be taken! I do not watch any broadcast service, and I do not even watch you tube live streams, as this could be a grey area. Stuff 'em! Keep up the good work. Maybe , back in the old days the bbc could justify their licence fee. They owned and maintained the tv transmitters, there were 2, 3 4 then 5 terrestrial channels(if you could pick it up). They made good educational documentaries,, music presentations , drama , comedy... they thought everyone loved sport, they had respected news reporting teams, they had no (very little) competition.
These days , the tv and radio transmitters were sold off to private companies as was most of the bbc's technical duties. They have increased their channel numbers but don't have the content for more than a few hours a day, I was disowned as a radio listener a long time ago. They still pay crazy money for televising sport events , and their presenters. They are trying and failing to keep up with pay tv (and all the competition), and the bbc news channels have no credibility and have become part of the governments propaganda machine.
As the bbc are now just "customers" of the tv transmitter companies, how can they say we need a tv licence to watch ANY channel live that ISN'T the bbc?
They are not the "Broadcasting" company they used to be.

The licence fee is archaic and irrelevant these days and the bbc should either be funded by adverts or by their government masters.
If you don’t require a licence then you are “correctly licensed” it says it in the opening sentence!

It should be renamed bbc subscription. Not the fake authority of a tv license. It's not a driving license or gun license or whatever else. Its a state enforced BBC subscription.
Their logic is like having the government say you need a Netflix subscription because you have the internet.
I gave them my address when I rang them up to tell them I didn't want a license and when they asked for my name I said Mr L(egal). Occupier and the person in the call centre never said a word. I also rang the police to report a malicious communication because of the threatening manner of the letters and the police took my report and gave me a crime number but they weren't keen at all...
They get away with it using fear, the landlords also insist the tenants must have a tv license and include this in the terms of tenancy.
I found this out years ago as a lodger, the greedy fuckers say if you pay rent for a room you should have a separate licence and are not covered for the whole house . Unbelievable!I will never buy one again, legitimately I dont need one

They not , Capita don’t send the letters , they sent directly by the BBCs TV Licence Enforcement through a bulk mailing company based in London , Capita just responsible for the home visit part ,

Ive just had an email from TVL asking for me to renew my 'No Licence needed' declaration, alot more boxes to tick than 2 years ago.
Be careful when you go there, with the online form, as the way its worded, they try to catch you out.

Had a letter this morning saying as I'd ignored several letters and failed to get licensed, they have no alternative to start an investigation. Wonder what happened to the previous one that was in its' final stages?

I don't have a TV licence and I never will
I've been at this address for 23 years now and for most of those years I got my monthly letter imploring me to buy something I simply don't want nor have use for (I discovered my TV works just fine without a licence).
They used to be addressed to me personally but after about 5 years they became "To the Legal Occupier". I have never acknowledged any communications nor have I spoken to anyone from TVL but about 10 months ago the letters stopped! Why? I have not got a clue but I'm very happy as it means my bin doesn't fill up so quickly.
Just ignore the letters and the goons if they should call. Junk mail letters and high pressure sales people that's all they are.

Some years ago I had a knock at the door and a TV licence inspector knocked on the door to as to see my TV licence. I told him (truthfully) that I did not have one as I did not own a TV.
He asked to come inside to have look around to see if I had a TV.

I asked to see his search warrant
He said that he didn’t need one, the right to entry is given when you buy a TV licence.

My TV took flying lessons, it only needed one, it crashed hard and got binned. My neighbours assumed I was having a breakdown when in fact, it was actually an epiphany.

they send me a letter every other week saying they will visit on x date, they never come.
Iv'e had 10 days for years now, TV goons are in a different time scale.
My next no licence needed letter should be coming this May, this time I'm not going to reply to it. What I'm going to do is save all the threatening letters up and when I have enough I'm going to my solicitor with them to start suing for harassment, more people should do this.
I'm waiting for the river's authority to come round to see if I want a licence to take up fishing, still waiting for them to bombarded me with letters about me taking up fishing, is this not the way government bodies work. What happens if you return the letter with a note attached "I am not here" .
The reason that they can get away with the language they use in the letters is simply because it's the law to have one if you watch live tv or iplayer, and, rightly or wrongly, all TVs come equipped with this facility. Maybe they could sell TVs with or without a live tv subscription? I bet they wouldn't sell many without live tv enablement!
They DO sell TVs of this kind. They're called computer monitors.
Connect a Roku box or similar to one with an hdmi cable and you're fine as long as you ensure you don't access live broadcasts.
You don't need to prove you don't - they have to prove you do.
Difficult if you simply deny them access and answer none of their questions - you have NO obligation to admit entry, answer questions, or even identify yourself to these pathetic door-to-door salesmen.
iv got my final final warning to pay my newlyn bailiff money for the council tax i owe or they will take more drastic action . so i rang them up told em i wont be paying as im not scared and dont give into being threatened they said i can go to jail if i dont pay i said they need to research it more as no one can go to jail over council tax and he then just hung up . they hate it when u no more than them script readers and take there power away

Great tips. I get a threatening letter addressed to Legal Occupier on average per fortnight. I've had threats from court action to reducing my credit card limit.

Received one of them letters, did not open it and wrote return to sender and posted it back. Last visit I had, informed them that I wasn't interested and their rights of implied access are revoked.

I'd very much like to know the cost of sending these letters. It's not like free fishing on the internet. Royal Mail has a cost? I'd love to see their books as it doesn't really have a good business model for sure,
Cost is 64p per licence and currently 24.468.000 licenses in place . ( source BBC financial information ) Letters are sent directly from TVL by a London based bulk mail company , not by Capita , they only responsible for idiots ,,

Blimey, that's a ball ache trying to ask the question from the BBC. Too many trip points and all I do is listen to radio. Not happy with them wanting to know about me, when they are public and suposed to be transparent? Hummm.

Thanks buddy for all the advice, if it puts my mind at rest, ime sure thousands of others are at rest, I've not had a licence for years, but do get the odd letter now and again,..goes straight in the bin!
