I just got one as my first manual a few days ago. I've stalled it a few times but by now I've mostly learned. My mom got in it and tried driving it, her first manual in 20 years. She got in, started it up while on an incline, then slammed through the gears like a professional in N mode. And like I said, this was 20 years after she last drove a manual. What I'm trying to say is: Skill issue.
I have a new '24 facelifted (DCT) version down here in Australia for about a month now. Yeah, the octane learning is just dumb sh1t - and good luck getting it to work all the time. At least now we get air vents in the back (as well as USB). And the rear emergency (triangle) light is actually functional. We only get the cheaper seats, though they are heated and cooled (and the driver seat is powered).
Still no rear AC vents in the U.S. makes no sense that they put them in the car for certain regions of the world, instead of putting them in all of the cars.
I,m still looking to buy one,I,m more concerned about it getting stolen even though I live in a great area I travel na lot and stay in hotels should I be worried?
Octane learning has been done for almost 40 years. My 91 Stealth allowed 87 to 91 octane. It just has to run through its process. A 13.2 gallon tank is normal for small cars. Geez.. I have a Veloster N and love it.
@JVette01 my wife had a 2013 Elantra with a 13.2 gal tank like my Veloster. That is a small tank. My back roads commute returns 26 to 28 mpg with 31 mpg on the highway...that is using 87 octane. Thanks for the update.
The octane learning is pretty annoying. Otherwise it's all very small nit picks. Most of which can be cheaply upgraded. Which the 24 fixes the rear usb plugs. Also adds front parking sensors.
The problem is that everyone is using cruise control and/or keeping the gas stationary. You must not be in cruise control drive between 69 and 73 MPH moving the accelerator, and it will learn in 10 minutes. Leave the car parked for 5 minutes (locked). I will make a video tomorrow, when I fill up.
There's soooo much aftermarket MODs for the EN that are rock solid performance! Lap3, n75, Sxth Element that's el cheapo; and the car from the factory handles and brakes exceptionally well too! :)
the N driver should be happy for what he gets with that price. and theres no way you should compare the N with a Golf R. completely different cars and different price category. and when you buying elantra N you are mostly about fun and track ready car and cant expect most of the comfort and features. they did all that to save weight. now if you really want put both golf and elantra N on the track and you will see the difference. proven they are faster on the track than the golf r even with less hp.
I don't get this octane learning (I am not an owner yet) the car requires 91 premium, so if you always run what's required why would it have to learn? what happens if you don't do octane learning?
The car does not require 91. But you need 91 if you want to 'Octane learn' and unlock the max power. Basically car is advertised as 276 hp /// 290/300 torque, but due to 'octane learning' the car starts off assuming the gas is always 87 and reduces the power. You top out at like 245 hp, 15 psi of boost and 260 torque. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but it is annoying if you want max performance. Doing the actual Octane learning isn't that difficult, but its frustrating that there's no actual indicator aside from stopping the learning session and flooring it to see if you get more than 15 psi of boost or more than 260 torque.
If only Hyundai have more service centers and mechanics that are knowledgable enough with their tech, it was always a long issue, when your Hyundai brokes down and you cant find easily accessible spare parts of it on the market or even take it a trust worthy mechanic that knows Hyundai stuffs 😓

@@JVette01 Personally for the money I would choose an Elantra N over a golf GTI. The VW shape is dated and needs a refresh plus the Elantra N sounds way better. Those rear air vents are definitely a deciding factor though 😎
@JVette01 In most scenarios other than the depicted races vs the GTI, the N cars win. I've beaten stock GTIs with my Kona N octane learned in Florida on 93. My friend who had the GTI traded it for an EN. Not to mention, straight line aside, even the KN annihilated the GTI in the lightning lap. The EN on the same tires even beat the Golf R's lap times when Savagegeese tested them against one another. Just saying.
@@speeddemonRS3 I never said the car is flawless. I’ve said the golf shape looks old and dated and doesn’t sound as good as an N. If we are comparing apples to apples wouldn’t you buy the cheaper one?
I know that's your list but besides octane learning that's a pretty terrible list in my *opinion*. And the octane learning is fixable with a tune. The gas tank is the only thing that you can't change. Filling up once a week spending $34 is nothing. So I don't agree with your reasoning there. They have trim kits to cover up the black and the bulbs can be swapped out. Takes 10mins. The paint is by far the worst thing about the car. But even that with spending some money is fixable with ppf when you first buy it. This is a lower priced performance car at the end of the day. Those little details like wood/metal trim and led lights inside aren't going to be there. Looking forward to your 5 things you like list.
@@speeddemonRS3the paint is softer than anything, chips/ scratches very easy. If you haven’t ppf’d the car within a week of ownership you better take your ass down to the dealership and get a touch-up paint pen.

I got an EASIER FIX GET IT TUNED EK1 then you can always put it back to stock if you need to get warranty work done they will not be able to tell it was tuned
@@camzyKillaThe techs won’t be able to tell if it’s tuned until HMG sends a field tech to look into the ECU parameters just to see that timing/boost parameters were played around with when the car requires warranty work from a catastrophic failure. But if you’re just going in for some maintenance or light warranty work, you’ll be fine.
That would suck, only in Australia, 91 octane is our poverty fuel. we have nothing under 91, only an 85 used for real racing cars with a special additive. But for road cars, we also have 95 and 98 octane. Over here, these cars run 98 and no learning...just flat out all the way.,
Octane is timing for your engine combustion. The more octane you have, it becomes more knock resistant due to the fact the combustion has more "room" to use. It's a threshold for safety, that's why when you tune your car, you're tuning to the maximum capabilities of that "room". Get it?
Knock sensor putting the car in limp mode after a car wash is the WORST thing about this car. I've had mine for 2 years, and it's by far the worst problem, that Hyundai needs to fix. Only thing I can agree w/ this guy on is the octane learning, but for everyday daily driving it's not a big deal.
@@solomoncasado708 There is a chance of it happening if I use an automatic car wash. I hand wash my car now for the past year and have had zero problems.
That's so odd. I usually wash my car my self anyways to save money and do a more thorough job anyways. But in the winter after a snow fall I am forced to take my WRX through the car wash to remove that nasty corrosive road salt off my car especially the undercarriage.
Who cares about MPGs when you drive a performance car. 91 octane is for Priuses, try 93 o wait you out West. There is much to be learned about Hyundai tuning vs VW or Honda tuning. There isn’t Hondata, APR or Cobb Tuning for Hyundai.
A few weeks ago there was some dummy complaining on Car & Drivers site that he had passed on the WRX because it got bad fuel economy comparable to an SUV. To which I replied that complaining that a turbocharged rally car gets bad fuel economy is like complaining that a fighter jet with an afterburner gets bad fuel economy.
Golf GTI, civic si, civic type r, Lexus is, I could list out other alternative competitor to the wrx that has figured out how to get better fuel economy. Especially for people who wants to drive econo sporty cars in Canada, with gas prices through the roof. Miata gets amazing fuel economy.
The ELANTRA in reminds me of when you build a character in a video game and you put all your points and strength and ignore everything else. Decent engine, but the car looks ugly. The interior sucks, It’s front wheel drive, cheaply made, and a couple of years Hyundai will leave you hanging and end production.
This guy is just lazy. They have aftermarket ABS pieces to cover the piano black. And also that panel on the left of the gauge cluster is NOT piano black. You can also add rear air vents in a mostly OEM manner. Octane learning does suck but depending on your future plans, just tune
If you want more power tune it stop whining all the other things you said are also on the type r and subaru i own both the N and a type r but would never buy a gti there engines have many flaws just like Subaru😂
Ohh really ! Type R the boy racer looks and needs attention plus over price! i would rather buy the GTI 💯 percent compare to type R . The ugly spoiler! Lol..
O5 WRX owner here. My WRX has been pretty reliable overall. I guess it's because it has the last of the 2.0L EJs. It has yet to leave me stranded like my 95 Acura Integra has over minor things like the main ignition coil going out or the clutch master cylinder failing. Plus those older Subarus are far more simple to diagnose and fix your self compared to the newer ones.
The Elantra N is incredibly good value for money and still some people complain. These people are pretty rare, though, as EN owners are notoriously happy with their metal babies.
1. Don't be such a girl and just tune it. Your fault you didn't do your homework before buying the car. 2. That car can get 40 MPG 3. Who cares about the passengers. 4. Lots of cars have piano black and I have no problems keeping it clean and scratch free. 5. Putting in LEDs are a super cheap and an easy fix.

@@GTIclubdport9462I think what he is referring to is that German cars in general are over engineered that make them more complex to maintain and repair. Doing something like a water pump seal replacement on some BMWs is expensive because it's labor intensive because of all the parts that have to be removed to replace a simple cheap seal. Even back in WWII, German tanks were just as over engineered. If a tank broke down it took a crew of specialized technicians days to weeks to fix it. While an American Sherman Tank could be fixed in a few hours by any tank crew that was experienced fixing farm tractors.

I had an easy enough time getting my 6 speed to learn, but it would hit 18-19 once then cap back at 15-16. They should ditch that in the next gen. The thing that I hated most was the clutch/trans. Every single person killed it the first time they drove it lol
I would have been happy with just one. It's like 4 extra cookies. I owned a Hyundai 35 years ago. I'm still not over it..
Ur gti has it but how much more is the gti? You got to give and take for the price sir
My GTI was 32k. Not the Golf R seen in this video.

@@JVette01 do you take any precautions alarm steering wheel lock?
Octane learning has been done for almost 40 years. My 91 Stealth allowed 87 to 91 octane. It just has to run through its process. A 13.2 gallon tank is normal for small cars. Geez.. I have a Veloster N and love it.
Thanks for sharing. However the EN has a 12.4 gallon tank. When you combine that with mediocre gas mileage (low mid 20’s) you don’t get a lot of range
@JVette01 my wife had a 2013 Elantra with a 13.2 gal tank like my Veloster. That is a small tank. My back roads commute returns 26 to 28 mpg with 31 mpg on the highway...that is using 87 octane. Thanks for the update.
Hyundai offers a lot for the money IMO but we need to get out friend over here on the german side LOL

It's outrageous the car which costs $35,000 does not have rear vents. My 2022 KIA Forte GT has a rear vent, and I paid $27,000 for the car.
Yeah but performance wise the kia isn't on the same level as the Elantra
I wonder if the 2024 model has the same octane learning
I don’t know why so many people are confused. I’m comparing it to my GTI I had, not the golf R
Sounds like a goodbye and I would get this before the GTI. I think that may break down a long time before this will.. thanks for the video!!
Good buy 🤣☠️
I don't get this octane learning (I am not an owner yet) the car requires 91 premium, so if you always run what's required why would it have to learn? what happens if you don't do octane learning?
The car would be slower
@@JVette01 even if you always use 91 octane? That's ridiculous, I think I'm going to go golf R regardless but that confirms it
Golf r is the better choice if you can fork up the additional 10k
Wow, I can't believe you found an Elantra N owner that actually thinks there's even a single flaw with the car! It's just amazing, lol!!
😂
flaw? like he forgot its 10 grand less than a vw
10 grand less than my golf r yes but lots of the things he mentioned are standard on a base GTI which is less expensive
Having so many happy customers says a lot about how amazing the Elantra N is.
@@JVette01 The GTI doesn't perform as well as the Elantra N. People are raving about Hyundai's N division for a reason.

10k cheaper than what? Most of the things he mentioned are solved by having a 32k new Mk8 GTI
@@JVette01 Personally for the money I would choose an Elantra N over a golf GTI. The VW shape is dated and needs a refresh plus the Elantra N sounds way better. Those rear air vents are definitely a deciding factor though 😎
@@JVette01 N owner once again thinks the car is flawless!!😆
@JVette01 In most scenarios other than the depicted races vs the GTI, the N cars win. I've beaten stock GTIs with my Kona N octane learned in Florida on 93. The EN on the same tires even beat the Golf R's lap times when Savagegeese tested them against one another. Just saying.

I got my 22 EN in March of 2022 and have over 50,000 km on it. It's a fun car to drive.
Thanks for watching. He did mention the paint to me in person but didn’t put it on the list
What is the issue with the paint just curious?
@@speeddemonRS3the paint is softer than anything, chips/ scratches very easy. If you haven’t ppf’d the car within a week of ownership you better take your ass down to the dealership and get a touch-up paint pen.

That would suck, only in Australia, 91 octane is our poverty fuel. we have nothing under 91, only an 85 used for real racing cars with a special additive. But for road cars, we also have 95 and 98 octane. Over here, these cars run 98 and no learning...just flat out all the way.,
Easy fix...just get it tuned like I did...350whp on 30k plus miles & no oct. learning to deal with
Sounds great, but a lot of people want to keep the Hyundai factory warranty in tact.
Spare ECU and no issues.
Nice, it's a TCR tune!
U can add vents in the back
Why use 87 grade gas in the first place?? That type of gas will ruin your engine and it also contains water....
Wrong.
Every wash I've ever done on my car is hand wash. Never have taken it through a tunnel not just because of that but to save the cheap paint
Does it always happen?
@@solomoncasado708 There is a chance of it happening if I use an automatic car wash. I hand wash my car now for the past year and have had zero problems.
That's so odd. I usually wash my car my self anyways to save money and do a more thorough job anyways. But in the winter after a snow fall I am forced to take my WRX through the car wash to remove that nasty corrosive road salt off my car especially the undercarriage.
U can replace all lights to led for less than 300$ at the same time so its still not bad
Putting in led bulbs still don’t look as nice as a factory LED unit
