Not at all outdated, have one and it’s perfect
Fantastic color and fantastic vehicle! I have the 2024 version which seems exactly the same except for the lack of a CD player! Bummer! Very good video!
Appreciate the thorough review!
I really appreciate this vid. Great stuff.
Thanks Awesome Review I actually Own one I love my Subaru wilderness 2023❤️
Yours is the most detailed review. I like it especially if you're new to Subaru. Well done!

🙏🏼🙏🏼
The blue looks great! I have a '22 Forester Premium in autumn green metallic which is also a fave of mine. Nice to see Subaru adding some cool new colors to their Foresters. Good review - liked and subscribed.
Both the blue and green are great. Thank you for your support!
@@703Speed 🤜🤛
Great review. Rented this last winter in New England, was really impressed with the powertrain, ride, EyeSight functionality, headlights, comfort and handling- to a point - tippy at extremes. Enough so I got the ‘24 Impreza RS this summer. If I lived the northern hinterlands instead of coastal SoCa the Forester Wilderness would be the pick. As it stands I go to Tahoe a couple of times a year but picked the better driving Sport Hatch for the 99% of driving.
Oh nice! Congrats on the Impreza RS! How have you liked the RS so far?
@@703Speed love it! As you know, it’s not a hot hatch - I’ve got a super clean WRX wagon for that - but its super stiff chassis exhibits a great ride/handling balance that makes it both fun and comfortable to drive. Never had a CVT before and it’s a fine, responsive powertrain. I just took it on a 1400 mile road trip - 12 hours in the car one day - and it eats up the miles, 35 MPG, 500+ mile range, seats are great, safety/driver tech are superb, headlights are amazing. I wanted a sportswagon and this checked all the boxes best.
Good job, bought this exact vehicle before I moved to Alaska. I learned more from you than at the dealership 😮.
I’m Glad the video was helpful!
Nice informative video my brother. We just bought a 23 FW last Saturday, so just a keeh ago today. Ours is white and looks gorgeous, blue is a nice color too. So far after 350 miles love the car and it's options, think we have all the options m8nus the m7dflaps. I feel it drives great, enough power and torque for normal driving. Lol not gonna Qin a drag race or anything 🤣. I'm happy that it has the infotainment system it has. I've heard alot of people don't like the 11in infotainment, since you have to fo in menus for everything instead of buttons. I came from a 16 Crosstrek with the sti package, 5sp, also in white. That was my first Subie, and enjoyed it enough, although low hp. Still though, enough power, and made me confident in getting another Subie. Again good job on the video.
Thank you! Lol, yes, not a drag race winner - but has enough power. And I agree with you, the big screen is definitely nice, but you have to use the screen to mess with the climate stuff which is annoying. I love physical climate controls! Congrats on your new ride - I wish you many many reliable miles
This is my car in my car color. You showed me things i haven't found on my own yet
Great video
Thank you
Great description. Peace
Thank you Michael!!
I bought one last month (Autumn green metallic). It drives great and acelerates fast while merging on highway... I was expecting a slow acceleration based on TH-cam comments about boxer engine...but I am pleasantly surprised at how fast this thing takes off from stop in the city...and the super smooth ride on washboard dirt roads. Overall great ride so far.
Nice color
Love the color❤
Me too
I literally just got this same Forester in the same color this weekend, and I just love it. Biggest thing for me is as someone who is 6'3" is the comfort. I had Nissan Rogue before, and it was terrible for me. I also tested a CRV and Rav4, and they also felt cramped. The color is not for everyone, but I love it, and it stands out in a world black, white, and gray cars.
Love this color! Congratulations! How have you liked it so far after having a few more days under your belt? Any gripes?
@703Speed Honestly, none so far, other than I need some free time to go somewhere. I'm still learning some of the tech, but I'll get it all figured out soon. It's such an improvement over my last vehicle in just about every way, especially in terms of how it fits me. I could barely go two hours in my last vehicle without my leg cramping, and I feel like I could drive this across the country.
What is the average mpg are you getting?
The auto dimming mirror is definitely worth it. My eyes don’t hurt as much.
Great in-depth review brother. I’ll be buying this car in a few days but I’m torn between the Geyser Blue & the Autumn Green. I want a color that pops (blue) but at the same time, I want something earthy, that sort of blends into nature (green). Both look great contrasted with the black cladding and anodized copper.
Also love that Subie still kept the physical knobs for climate control and heated seats. My philosophy is: keep it simple - the more bells and whistles you have, the more there is to go wrong. Keep up the great reviews. Cheers from NJ.
Both great color choices - can't really go wrong. I agree with you, simple lasts a lot longer! Thank you for the support, and good luck with your purchase!
Buy the outback if you can. Fuel economy sucks in this model and it’s as slow as a sloth
@@unreal1973 I've owned 2 Outbacks already & I love the styling of this FW. I'm getting 27-28mpg avg for city/hwy combined. I agree the acceleration isn't great, but I didn't buy it for that reason. I have my MINI Cooper S for that. I didn't like the station wagon styling of the Outback. The FW felt and looked more like an SUV.
@@BarryBlaxtone I bought a Forester Wilderness and I regret it. It’s nice looking but I’m getting less than 25 MPG city/highway and it really sucks for the size of the car. I had a Ford Expedition XLT 2021 and was getting 23 mpg.
Lol@@unreal1973
After much thought even though I like the roomy interior I went with the Outback...turbo motor that's much better for getting on these freeways where I live plus extras like a sunroof for not much more money.
I consider to buy the 2023 Subaru Forester.
Never owned one before this past July. I was a Chevy guy before it. It’s really reliable and comfortable. I’m more into the mechanical buttons. Plenty of space and some decent power in S# mode
I've been looking at a new Forester but I just wish it had more power with or without a turbo.
I agree - at least over 200hp would be nice
Nice one...was wondering how it accelerated at speed? Also how it handles corners, etc?
It has some body roll, but that's to be expected with it being tall. Acceleration at speed is okay, just depends on your perception of speed. What may be slow to me may not be slow to you. It has good low end acceleration, but when you get higher up in speed it slows down
I like quick acceleration and highspeed power that comes with ease...and enjoy utilizing it when possible @@703Speed
I have owned a 2015 Forester that I have owned since August of 2014. It has the 6-speed manual. If I was to buy another Forester, even though I like the Wilderness, I'd probably go with the Sport in Sapphire Blue Pearl. But, since I will need a 3-row SUV/Van for my next vehicle and also because the Ascent only gets about 26/20 hwy/city, I'm going have to go back to Toyota with their new Grand Highlander Hybrid. Unless Subaru enters the hybrid world before I need a 3-row mid-sized SUV with about 35 average mpg.
Love a 6 speed! Don't find that in SUV's anymore.. Grand Highlander is a great option.. What's the price difference of that and the Ascent.. If its a significant difference, you could get the Ascent and use the difference in $ saved for gas
@HunterXray is it really worth spending $10k + more on a vehicle just because it's better on fuel? If you drive 12,000 miles a year, you'll save about $800/year in the toyota... So close to 13 years before you finally break even on fuel savings, and by then you'll need a new battery which will cost you $6k +.
With the Honda CRV’s redesign and the Rav4’s beloved new look, it does feel like the Forester is somewhat left behind. Granted, this car excels in utility/ off-road capability but the first thing people notice on a car is obviously how it looks. Subaru has done a good job making the Outback look fresh, I hope they spend the same amount of time with the Forester’s design.
I'd bet that Subaru will update this for the 2025 model year. This is unique because Toyota or Honda don't really make anything like the Wilderness. I think the Forester looks pretty updated at the front end, but could use some updating at the rear and in the interior.c
@@703Speed I just hope they retain the info-tainment system of the Forester. One of the complaints that i read about on the Crosstrek and Outbacks is the giant screen that some people already say feels outdated. Im not a big fan of the big screen. All the videos i've watched showcasing it has shown an operating system that is very slow. It's almost laggy. I dont know if that's also the case in person.
@@xo_kylem6735 I have the big screen in my wrx. It works fine. I would prefer physical hvac controls though. The '25 forester gets the big screen too.
I'd like more rubber on those wheels, certainly bump up to a 65 series (same as on the Outback Wilderness). And $38K is just too much for this vehicle, which is due for a restyle any day now.
Great suv❤
My problem with the Forrester is it's just too basic looking. This one is the Wilderness Trim so it looks much better but the other trims look like something my Grandmother would drive around in and she has been dead since 1995.
Funny how no one says that about Jeep. Like Jeep, form follows function with Forester. It’s a Swiss Army knife of a car, not a light sabre (which is fake, btw). Tall roofline and large windows give it a boxy shape but excellent outward visibility and headroom, signature features of Forester. The shortish length with high ground clearance adds to the boxy visual effect. The headlight and taillight designs are quirky, and definitely not for everyone, but give the car a unique personality. It’s not flashy (it’s a Forester, duh) but I like the looks, and it’s enjoyable to drive. The perfect combination of comfort, safety, value, versatility, and economy. Perhaps, Grandma was ahead of her time, and cooler than you know.
Lolll
Personal opinion of course, but this is exactly why I like the Forester Wilderness, semi old school look with rugged upgrades.
Excellent SUV bro 👍🏿
Yessirrr
I almost got this but prefer wait for 2024!
You may be able to get a nice deal on a 23’ tho!
The ‘23’s are exactly the same as the 24’s. And the 23’s are about $700-$800 less expensive. Might be worth looking for a 23.
👍🏻👍🏻
Usb type A looks like outdated. Also, i have a question, where do you mount your phone when you use navigation?
Use car play for navigation.
Use CarPlay or android auto and it brings the navigation on your cars screen!
Forester Wilderness maybe is outdated but its advantage. Greetings
That’s true! More analog and less to go wrong - definitely charm to that
I drove one today. The engine was just way too noisy. Also the ride quality was bad and highway acceleration was unacceptable. I got back in my 2003 f150 V6 that I bought for $4500 and felt relief and peace.
Hey - im sure you're enjoying the 0 interest you have to pay on the F150
That skid plate is not metal.
If you dislike the current gen design, wait till you see the next gen.. 🤦🏻♂️
forester infotainment is so outdated. I was really hoping for an update like crosstrek. I am leaning towards rav4 now
I think you'll have the big screen for the 2025 model year - if you can wait
With all the tons of reviews, what does 703’s review add? It feels like a regurgitation of everyone else’s review.
Nah his is way more thorough. Alex on Autos is solid but lots of specs whereas 703 points out more of the little perks for the driver
