Meet the Focus ST's little brother, the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. Upgraded with a turbocharged 1.6L engine, 6-speed manual transmission, and a re-tuned suspension; it represents one of the first hot hatches born from a B-segment vehicle here in the states. We think it's worth a serious look if you're in the market for a pocket rocket, but feel the compact cars have grown to be too large in size and weight.
To the owner of this video, I just wanted to say thanks for putting this together. It was a major reason I got my 2014 ST. It is still my daily driver after 9 years.
Are you happy with it's reliability?
@@clint0072 Yes, very much. It's just over 105k miles with no engine or drivetrain issues in the past 10 years. The only thing that's given me trouble is the cabin temperature control. The hot/cold air mixer does not work well. Sometimes it just max cold or max hot. Otherwise a solid, fun, little car.
Finally! A good review where they actually explain all the important information, compares to the Focus ST, has great video and test drive, and a guy without an annoying over the top voice. I really liked this review. Enough to actually sign in and comment here. Thanks for the great video. Before this, I still wasn't sure how I felt about this car, but now I really like the idea of it.
This guys the main reason I bought one, I got it in August of 2014 and it currently has 55,000 miles on it and I’m on my 4th set of tires, that’s how much I like it. There the best Bang for the Buck hands down. Every time I push the Sport mode button, it puts the biggest smile on my face, it’s the only way to drive it. I love to enter a turn Hot, get on the brakes, throw it sideways, pick your line and stab the gas, and it will pull you right out of the turn, there just plane Magic to Flog. Highly recommend this car.
I have one, and I completely agree. This car handles like nothing else, and with 3 modes, you can really get silly with it. The rotation in a corner is as good as almost any sports car.
These cars are great. Very tossable, very livable (if you don't mind a harsh ride), and very economical. And they respond very well to tuning. Running at 222whp/289wtq with a catless downpipe and a custom tune (using a COBB AP) from Randy Robles over at Mountune USA. Little torque monster! 19k miles so far and zero issues. Absolutely killer mountain road carver that can get almost 40mpg highway if you're careful.
I wouldn't go much higher than that. 250+whp you're looking at a blown engine after 40k miles or so
Great review. For those transfixed on 0-60 stats don't forget that half the fun of driving is downshifting and decelerating smoothely into tight turns with confident handling. Disc brakes all round, Thank you Ford
"Expect 0-60 times in the six and half inch range." Hmm, wonder what was on your mind! LMAO
Either that or he meant to say ish and not inch. Lol
Well wut was on him mind...
Don't know, but I doubt he has an immature, 13-Year old sense of humor like you.
@@1970borntorun Like me?
7:08 "0-60 in 6.5 inches" oooookaaaaay!
staggabob
Kid’s got a piece on him ... lol
Why is that ooookkkaaayyy or why is that funny
so it reaches 60 after rolling just 6.5 inches? who needs dragster anymore? The fiesta has this shit covered.
Great review!!! These have become harder to find over the years.
Most badass-looking little performance car Ford has ever brought us in a LONG while!
Thanks for hopping on this review right away. I've been eagerly awaiting for it! The Fiesta ST is so sweet!
Couldn't agree more about it being easy to drive. I just bought one without ever driving a manual before. One test drive later and I was good to go
+Sean Rossick two months later, are you enjoying it? I want to get one. Could you maybe if you have time go through the pros and cons and over all happiness with your purchase? Cheers man
I'm not necessarily good at reviews but I'll try. The car still drives beautifully even after the bad weather and roads in Pennsylvania. I'm at 24,000 miles and nothing has gone wrong. Everything both inside and out still works as if it were brand new. It is inconvenient having such a little trunk because I did move to a new apartment with it and had to make countless trips back and forth but that was completely expected. The back seat is also laughably small as well. One thing to note however is that it noticeably under performs and loses gas mileage when loaded to capacity (which was also generally expected. Just thought I should note). It is also a surprisingly good road trip car. I drove it from Pennsylvania to Colorado and back last summer (~25 hours each way) at about 34mpg and had no problems with it apart from the aforementioned small trunk. I am also a relatively tall person and still was able to drive long stretches without getting leg cramps which was surprising. It's also the easiest thing in the world to park because of it's size. Overall, I still very much love my Fiesta and would encourage anyone to buy one if the fully understand what the car is. If you have a big family or a lot of cargo to carry around daily, I don't recommend this car but other than that, I'd say go for it!
Sean Rossick Thanks for the review...Do you have any squeaks or rattles? I've noticed some have complained of those.
PhilemonXIV No rattles but occasionally there are some squeaks from the dash plastics on bumpier roads just because it isn't super quality material. It's never been so bad that it's an annoyance though
Sean Patrick hi, Sean. I realize I'm commenting like a year later, but I just wanted to ask a couple questions since I'm just now seeing this comment. Do you still have the car? Any new problems? I've wanted one of these for a long time but nobody drives these cars where I'm from, so I haven't really gotten to check out many of them in person
I drive an 01 Focus ZX3 five speed...great little car. Always saw myself upgrading to a WRX until the Focus ST came out. When I heard the Fiesta ST was on the horizon, I knew it was gonna be the perfect car. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
That really depends on your tolerance for ride quality. Our editor-in-chief wouldn't mind driving this on an everyday basis, the Focus ST rides a bit better but if you're used to a firm ride where you can feel the road, this will be just fine for you. If your daily driver used to be a cushy car like an Avalon, this car will be stiff and bouncy for you. Test drive it and decide for yourself if it works.
You are 100% right. I got my focus ST and after a few days I fell in love with manual. I don't think I could ever buy another automatic car.
Love this car. Had it for 5 days now and no complaints. Very responsive engine and love those racing seats.
I drive a June 2016 Fiesta St 2 door RHD we drive on the left side of the road. Thank you for the vid. Greetings from Pretoria South Africa 16 July 2021.
I never would have expected to like a Ford Fiesta however yesterday, I drove one of these as well as a Focus ST at a Ford driving event. I absolutely fell in love with this car-- even more so than the Focus ST.
Ford did a great job on the clutch and shifter in both the Focus and Fiesta STs- they were among the best I have experienced in a car. That little Fiesta though just felt more tossable than the Focus and that made it much more fun!
I sure hope that I can pick one up soon!
I enjoy your reviews so much more than everyone else's! You review cars that I want to see in depth and tell me everything I want to know. Keep up the good work... (I probably sound too cheesy)
The 2013 Focus ST starts at $23,700 plus destination/freight. Ford charges $795 for it, so the cheapest 2013 Focus ST is $24,495. The difference in price was freight and perhaps an accessory that drove the price up another $500. Dealers haven't charged a mark-up on the Focus ST for months now. Mark-ups only last about a month after the car launches, once inventory picks up, dealers start discounting the vehicle.
I just bought this car in this color in large part because of this review. Two weeks with it now and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!
Thanks 1000 for the review! My wife is very interested in the Focus ST as she shrugged off the ordinary Fiesta when I suggested it last summer. NOW im sure she'll listen once I show her this video.
It's DEFINITELY worth it. It goes like stink if you're in a hurry! but with a gentle right foot, it purrs along with *much* better fuel economy than its bigger brother. It's nifty, comfortable and (if you're American) the five door model becomes an even more practical everyday vehicle. I get by just fine with three doors, but I do sometimes wish I had quicker access to the rear seats. Oh, and on seats, DEFINITELY go for the Recaros, they're lovely. Let her take the first test drive, she'll be smitten ;-)
Man, you do very practical, well-informative reviews.
Thank you for that.
I've had the regular stick Fiesta for 3 years and next year I'll likely get the ST version.
Nice review...nicely paced and, edited, and informative on all the right places...got a new sub.
i cant believe some people dislike this guy's videos! He really makes good reviews
You make valid points for not wanting to drive a stick everyday, however once you master driving a manual, it's very possible your view on it may change. It becomes second nature to you and eventually you won't even notice the traffic. Once you realize how much more engaging and fun it is to drive a manual, it's hard to go back to an automatic ;)
Yep, you definitely would! My brother and I both have an ST-2 and he's used to automatic cars and it took him maybe a week to fall in love with manual (stick) cars.
We're not sure which state you're using, but taxes and tags for our area don't equate to $4 grand. You're also assuming you will pay sticker or above for the car.
7:25 he starts driving it. You're welcome.
Listen to the whole thing...it's informative.
Johnny CincoCero If I was completely ignorant about cars, that might be true. But I'm not, so it's not.
Nevertheless, an enthusiast would benefit from watching the video. I did. Not everyone owns a Ford, much less an ST. I recommend you watch it. Thank you.
Johnny CincoCero I watched it 9 months ago when I posted the comment. I learned nothing when I did, and was subsequently angered by the wasted time; so i endeavored to help other people get the information they desired in a timely manner. Hence the overwhelming approval of my comment that I posted 9 months ago. So thank you for your recommendation in response to my 9 month old comment.
You are welcome. I hope I didn't waste your time by responding to you 9 month old comment, but I gather I did. Obviously, I must have touched a nerve. That was not my intent. So, for your sake and your sanity, please refrain from responding any further. Thank you.
X-Plan pricing will get you a good deal when this vehicle first comes out when most dealerships are charging sticker for the car. Right now, there is a $500 rebate on the Fiesta ST already. The Fiesta in the video had an X-Plan price of $25,527, that's about a $600 difference from the MSRP, just keep in mind, there's not much mark-up in a small car like the Fiesta.
This is a really good real world review. Good job.
Wow such a good review, very excited to pick up my 2015 molten orange next week!
Nelson Samaniego Huh?
0-60 in 6.5 inches? Wow that's incredible! haha. Great review as always! Been looking forward for this review and you didn't disappoint!!
The Fiesta will be the sportier car to drive, the engine is more refined and the tech features are far superior. The Accent will have a roomier interior, be less expensive, and have a better warranty. At the same time, it will ride a bit harsher, have a nosier cabin, and dated/lack of tech inside.
This is like the new old Focus SVT, man I really want this fucking car.
The 2014 Mazda3 will not be as quick as this vehicle, while it is a sporty looking and driving compact car, you cannot compare it to the Fiesta ST. This vehicle is smaller, lighter, more nimble, and more powerful. It's simply just more fun to drive b/c it is considered to be a hot hatch performance vehicle. The Mazda3 is a sporty compact car, wait for the Mazdaspeed version which compares to the larger Focus ST.
Ok, I am changing my mind on this car....did some more research and it is better than I realized. I was wrong about it.
We prefer the high revs and shifter in the Si, but the Fiesta ST is better in the corners.
Looks-wise, it may seem like they do. However, the Sonic RS simply cannot compete with the Fiesta ST in terms of performance. The Sonic RS only makes 138 hp vs. 197 hp in the Fiesta ST. In a drag race, the Sonic would be around 2 secs behind.
Awesome review man. I own a 2011 fiesta and man would I love to upgrade to one of these. Thanks again!
Again another great review and test drive
Make sure you get all weather tires for other seasons, some have issues with just a Summer tire. The Fiesta is made in Mexico the Focus is made in the USA.
Tough choice, do you prefer high revs or turbo thrust? Test drive both and see for yourself :)
good video, and well informative.
Can you please consider doing a video on the Fiesta 1.0 liter?
I am considering that car for gas, overall price, ecological footprint, and low end turbo torque. Thank you
I'm not a Ford fan really but I do appreciate the ST's. A couple things about this one though. From the front corner angle, the car looks like one of the monsters from monster inc like it has an overbite. Plus the headlights almost come all the way back to the windshield. That's the two things I can't stop seeing. Car seems fun though. I would like to test one out.
I love my 01 Focus ZX3 five speed, and always saw myself upgrading to a WRX, but since Ford has come out with these,
i have been waiting for this for so months! thank you 2theRedline! I want this car bad.
This is a really good review! You've improved so much at talking freely and cohesively (while driving)! I really want an ST now :)
Go test drive one, dude. Both the base seats, and Recaro seats are very adjustable, and one one them (can't remember which) naturally sits lower. The sunroof also may have an effect on head room. Super fun car to drive.
This car is so much fun to drive that I traded my 06 Auto Tranny Acura TL for it! Yes im gonna miss the comfort, Classy silver Look, and Power of the 3.2L but wont miss the A/T, Fuel consumption...Opted for the same color silver because it doesnt look plastic (even tho most of it is lol) like the others. FUN times a comin!
I own one of these and previously the 2003 Ford Focus SVT. The only thing I dislike about this car is the rear seats do not lay flat, shifter throw & road noise. Heated seats only with Recaro Seats. $2000 for the upgrade. NO WORTH IT. You might as well get the Focus ST. This car is FAST!! Blow aways my old Focus SVT. Better in gas and can use 87 Octane.
Wow, this was an enjoyable conversation. These were a couple of examples and complaints that I heard not from just these two but many others. Someone sure took it personal, I know there are thousands of drivers but automatics are way more fuel efficient then their manual counterparts. Your the one who started questioning my very valid points in why I really didn't want a manual.
Have a nice day to you too. It was pointless on your part to even approach me with that attitude. Enjoy the traffic
sunroof is "slightly really far back"
11:35 the guy behind him almost rear ends someone in the other lane:p
Not really, he had room
How many speeding tickets do U get? LMAO That Fiesta has an awesome sound!
Is this more fun and engaging to drive than the current F30 3 series?
Everything about the Ricaro seat package is great.... except the Ricaro seats. I would love to get everything the Ricaro package offers but with seats I can actually sit in for hours and get in and out of. I got big legs and I don't feel like getting pinched by my seat all day and have to struggle to get in and out every time I make a stop.
Bolstered seats are great, had them in my lancer, but mildly bolstered seats you can still get in and out of is way better than the crazy bolstering on the Ricaros. If you want to add huge Ricaro bolstering offer a package with adjustible bolstering.
Hearing all the problems with fords dual clutch transmission i would definitely get a ford with a manual
If I am every looking for a 5-6spd manual car as a weekend car not DD I have family to help me out in teaching me, but I dont see that happening anytime soon.
Automatics do give more refinement than driving manuals, but the feeling of driving your own car is something I do envy when I see my cousins or relatives drive manually.
Good review! Very informative. I also enjoyed your review on the acura ilx 2.4 manual. Might I suggest that you do more rural driving to test the higher end limits of the car. Other then that, top notch!
IMPRESSIVE REVIEW I drive a fiesta ST at work as a pursuit vehicle
This is automatically what I thought. The Fiesta is around the size of the 03ish SVT Focus. More HP and Torque and more refined, this cars gotta be a killer! I loved the SVT and always wanted one!
I can't understand why Ford doesn't launch the new car in India though India is one of the largest Ford buyers...Hoping to see & buy this car if it is launch in India
This car is sold out even in Canada
in terms of the sunroof, it's ... "SLIGHTLY" "REALLY" ... far back. lol
I turned your video into a drinking game, drink every time you say "suprisingly" or "in terms of" or other models such as "focus ST" hahah awesome
Nice review. Also nice to have the camera during the test drive.
I'm very surprised with the exhaust note! Sounds like a fun car to drive! :D
Hi.. I am really now in limbo since I am choosing between Fiesta and Accent.. Which do you think is the best buy for both top-of-the line variant for these two cars? Fuel Efficiency, maintenance, power, and looks, which do you think performs best?
My mother grew up learning to drive manuals, she loves them but most major cities are increasingly getting crowded, I am sure mastering manuals would make driving so much better, but for the life of me I simply don't want to deal with the footwork in traffic.
Its bad enough when I visit family all over CA its 4-5 hour drive using an automatic and the times I drive to visit is rush hour traffic. But for some the driving enjoyment outweighs the footwork pain due to heavy traffic. :)
you may notice the headroom is lacking
I’ve said it before but Honda is missing a huge opportunity on the Fit SI. I loved my fit, but it just felt so slow. I sold it and went back to an ep3. Now I might get the FiST.
Yup. If Honda would make a performance version of that car, I'd probably have one. Give it the ST treatment with a turbo and suspension/brakes, and it would rock.
I just got this car!!! 2015 model, can't wait for Wednesday!!!
You'll love it, I've had mine for 2 months now and I'm yet to return from a single drive without a mega huge grin on my dial....My wife believes if I could get the ST up the staircase I'd sleep with it :) It really is an utterly amazing sub-compact to drive, no regrets what-so-ever.....FiST FTW!
Ntro T After 2 months of ownership, I can tell you that this is by far, the most fun I've had with any cars I've owned. I love everything about it. The ONLY thing I feel it is missing is a boost gauge, just for the heck of it. But once I install the COBB Access Port, I will have it!
How much cost to put the cobb access port??
Well my local dealership has one for $21,290, I don't think it has all the upgrades, and maybe it has something to do with Montana not having sales tax but that is considerably cheaper..... Maybe I will get one
Good review, thanks. I'm thinking about getting one of these and this was really useful. Thanks again.
I watched your channel every day waiting for a review of this car. You're awesome man. Great reviews, realistic opinions, etc.
Now to decide between the Fiesta ST and Focus ST. Hmm.
Every state charges a different tax rate, in VA the tax rate is 4.17%. Crazy that you guys in WA pay more than double that.
I love this car. I have watched this video too many times.
I also find myself coming back to watch this review many times :)
All the tutorials on TH-cam and around the Internet will help you with that. I've never driven a manual car before, but I now certainly know how to thanks to the millions of tutorials and how-tos out there. :-)
I have a black fiesta st and I have to say I really like the silver. One thing about it though is around the radio satellite pole thingy causes rust around it just so you know if you’re reading this.
Ahh Fit Si...dare to dream.
If Honda did make a Fit Si, it would most likely have an anemic naturally aspirated Civic engine. Honda has totally lost it to Ford.
Yes, because what we all need is yet ANOTHER ugly Honda that looks like a melted sex toy with zero personality or charm, right?
Give it that type R treatment and I’m in
For sure, I have a spirit blue ST-2 in the UK and would've personally loved the silver colour with a sunroof, that would've set it off completely.
0-60 in 6.5 inches...Amazing!!
I'm cross-shopping this car as a daily driver with a few others: FRS, Mazda 3 sedan, or a WRX. I like this car, alot. I know the WRX is kinda the big performer, but I think its drivetrain is dated. I like the FRS, but as a DD I think it might be too small. I like the Mazda 3, but it's not quite as sporty as I'd like. That leaves one choice ^_^ Great review, really liked seeing the interior, very good job on the detail, and about being real about the limitations of the car.
I'm 6'4" and I sat in one today. I didn't feel anymore cramped than I do in other small cars. I actually feel like I have less headroom in my RX8.
I love the interior of that car
I might get this as my next car. I just wish Chevy would do this type of version for the Sonic, or at the very least a Sonic Diesel with hefty torque, because I prefer the style and size of the Sonic. But this looks and sounds great...excellent review!
The idea of a CRZ Si would be awesome, Im thinking about getting a regular one someday or a Fiesta ST
@ 7:06 0 to 60 in 6.5 inches, I gotta get one of these!
whats that?
I've really been considering getting one of these... What major downfalls would you say this car has?
I'm 19 and I'm currently driving a 2007 mustang.. but I'm kinda getting out of the "Fast car phase" and I've somewhat been losing interest in having horsepower etc... I was thinking of getting a Fiesta ST.. My insurance payment on my mustang is as much as the Fiesta ST car payment so I'm definitely considering a Fiesta ST or Fiesta Titanium.. Does anyone know if there changing the FIesta when 2015 rolls around?
Brilliant car
My next car for sure. Great review!
They call this 2theRedline but he never takes the cars to the redline.
You need to watch our other videos :) We try not to do that on brand new cars that aren't fully broken in yet.
Ford fiesta st, vw golf TDI or Mazda 3, all 2104, which one would you rather drive?
I test drove the mazda3 and vw golf tdi. The VW golf is nicer to look at and the drive is impeccable, yet I found the mazda3 to be the most comfortable. For the price I would go ford focus st with aftermarket sound system and intake kit
good review and good car, i drove one at my dealership and it was nice . but i love my focus st more!
There isn´t this version of Fiesta here in Brazil, unfortunately. How fast it is? And its sound is really hot. Beautiful.
0-60 in about 6 seconds. probably reach up to 130. don't know exactly I just found out about this car 2 hours ago.
what do you think about long term reliability? that's what scares me with this and the Focus ST.
Very beautiful car, I myself have raced a few of them with my Polo GTI, they really kinda keep up. Considering one as my next car :)
I live in England I'm I'm thinking about getting a Fiesta ST. But one question can I get the HID headlights fitted in England or not?
what would you as the tester would rather have the fiestast or 2014 civicsi
I wish Ford would move those "integrated blind spot mirrors" to the inner edge of the mirror rather than on the outer edge. At the inner side, next to the window, the spot mirror still does what it is supposed to do without blocking the driver's main rear viewing area. Ford has a good idea with the blind spot mirrors, but executes that idea poorly by putting them right in the drivers line of sight for the rear view. It's annoying... .
if anything they should just make the mirrors slightly bigger then it wouldnt be as bad, even if they mirrors where longer with the blind spot on the far out side
