Correct me if I’m wrong(this is what I was taught in school) but I think that might be due to Poland used to be a part of Russia before ww1? So maybe that is why there is similarities in the language

I noticed a little secret when using machine translation. He likes to reverse meanings. But you can immediately translate back what he translated. And control it.
We have a similar proverb in Romania "bătaia este ruptă din rai" which means "beating comes from heaven". That's what parents tell their children after they complain after they were hit or mothers and fathers tell their daughters in a abusive relationships after they tell them about their abusive bfs or husbands. This is also an overly religious proverb because in fanatic households that would mean "God says so. So you must go through it."
Same in Croatian, “batina je iz raja izašla”... it’s frightening when you realise how many cultures have the similar proverbs which depict the same views on domestic violence. They actually thought that you can beat the “evil” out of children and wives to make them more obedient. That was something my mother used to say to me and she learned that from her parents (mostly her father, of course, they weren’t overly religious, but it’s a saying deeply rooted in our culture) and it was “normal” back then, but it is still apparent in our society. My grandfather was working two jobs, so he had strict rules, e.g. children could not eat when he eats, they had to be quiet in their room while he was at home, they couldn’t ask him anything because it was grandmothers’ job to raise the children. If my grandmother couldn’t keep the children quiet, he would hit her and beat his children until they learned how to be obedient and respect him. Children should not be raised in such fear. Many women in my country still tolerate domestic abuse because they’re scared of their husbands and families, not to mention the judgemental society where you’re worth less if you are not a “good” wife and they always blame women for not working on their marriage. Some women cannot leave because they depend on their husbands as they are only allowed to raise children and take care of the house. I hope things will change soon for the better.

even though I'm a native russian speaker I mostly lived in my whole life in the US and I do agree that IC3PEAK is a great band that brings light to all of the issues in Russia. Reminds me of a similar band here in the US called Grandson that does the same but with the issues in the US
I already know alot of russian, but ic3peak helped me not just know how to pronounce the words, but understand them. I will be forever grateful to Nastya and Nick for helping me speak to my russian friends/family. 😌

Например, мне кажется очень поэтичным использовать icy bones вместо cold bones, или spread out\flow out вместо простого описания того, что мозги на стене. Это конечно право переводчика так делать и нельзя сказать какой перевод верный, но официальный перевод этой песни в субтитрах получился немного сухим.

Great video. I’m mixed Irish and Russian and learned Russian from my mother, but it’s so tough to explain things to people about Russian vocab sometimes. Thanks for the information. I was learning Russian for a boyfriend in 2010. Ultimately it didnt work out but when I was doing it i went to Russian church and listened to Russian hip-hop. Theyre probably cringey now but Biyanka, nastya kimenskih and potap helped me learn. A little animation called "the dog door" was my favorite to watch. He was my first love 💚

I am Irish/Ukrainian (mostly) and my family has lived in America for a few generations now. But how sad is it, that it is such a part of the culture, that my mother (who speaks almost none of the language and has never even been anywhere) has said a variant of "if he beats you, he loves you" to justify violence in the family, because that's what her father taught her. The normalization of it is truly terrifying.

I love the video and that you're using it to create awareness about this topic. It is interesting to me that you have the saying "if he beats you, he loves you" - in Danish, we say "den man tugter elsker man" which translates to "the one you beat, (is the one) you love", and this may have come from the same issue. Luckily, in Denmark domestic violence is not socially accepted anymore and is in fact also illegal. The phrase is now jokingly said by older family when a child teases another child, and has lost the connotation of domestic abuse - at least to the younger generation, as I only just now (while watching your video) realized what it could have meant. I sincerely hope there will be progress in Russia with the law, so victims of domestic abuse will be more free, and there is a social pressure against it. In any case I enjoyed the video a lot and hope you will continue making more :) i think the Russian language is very beautiful and videos like this helps me appreciate and understand it even though I cannot currently take time to learn it.

Ive been learning it from various sources all over while i work at my job. RussianPod 101 is a good place to start. Ive been using the google translator too just to help pronounce certain words. I approach it like a baby learns their first words. Im not worried about spelling, just the words. Now im catching words in videos, all it takes is a trickle!! I love this language.
Excellent video.I loved the way you broke down the roots. I learned so much. Although though I struggle with the structure of the language your interpretations were very clear. The way you include Russian culture in you explanations is not only very helpful but extremely interesting. While Russia is sadly behind many other countries in it's awareness and understanding of domestic violence, I'm glad to see it coming to light. I have faith that the current generation will make great strides in making the changes nessesary to bring about the nessesary laws and protections to end these family injustices. I was learning Russian for a boyfriend in 2010. Ultimately it didnt work out but when I was doing it i went to Russian church and listened to Russian hip-hop. Theyre probably cringey now but Biyanka, nastya kimenskih and potap helped me learn. A little animation called "the dog door" was my favorite to watch. He was my first love 💚

Thank you for the video! I really like the explanations you did, how you broke it down and helped bring awareness to the issues the band was singing about. I am Irish/Ukrainian (mostly) and my family has lived in America for a few generations now. But how sad is it, that it is such a part of the culture, that my mother (who speaks almost none of the language and has never even been anywhere) has said a variant of "if he beats you, he loves you" to justify violence in the family, because that's what her father taught her. The normalization of it is truly terrifying.

I love the video and that you're using it to create awareness about this topic. It is interesting to me that you have the saying "if he beats you, he loves you" - in Danish, we say "den man tugter elsker man" which translates to "the one you beat, (is the one) you love", and this may have come from the same issue. Luckily, in Denmark domestic violence is not socially accepted anymore and is in fact also illegal. The phrase is now jokingly said by older family when a child teases another child, and has lost the connotation of domestic abuse - at least to the younger generation, as I only just now (while watching your video) realized what it could have meant.
I sincerely hope there will be progress in Russia with the law, so victims of domestic abuse will be more free, and there is a social pressure against it.
In any case I enjoyed the video a lot and hope you will continue making more :) i think the Russian language is very beautiful and videos like this helps me appreciate and understand it even though I cannot currently take time to learn it.

Ive been learning it from various sources all over while i work at my job. RussianPod 101 is a good place to start. Ive been using the google translator too just to help pronounce certain words. I approach it like a baby learns their first words. Im not worried about spelling, just the words. Now im catching words in videos, all it takes is a trickle!! I love this language.

The way you include Russian culture in you explanations is not only very helpful but extremely interesting.
While Russia is sadly behind many other countries in it's awareness and understanding of domestic violence, I'm glad to see it coming to light. I have faith that the current generation will make great strides in making the changes nessesary to bring about the nessesary laws and protections to end these family injustices.
