    As Ukrainian I can say that Zelenskyi showing his anger at all russians is not a political speech but his true emotion. You can’t respect people who do nothing when their government tries to kill you and your nation everyday. It’s natural feeling of human being. And you don’t want to hear why it is impossible because it’s a question of life and death to you right now.
    But there are Russians who fight against putin on Ukrainian side and I’m sure that all people of Ukraine have great respect for them.

    Hello Natasha, I would like to share with you a personal experience.
    I work for a multinational company and we used to have offices in both Russia and Ukraine. When the troubles in the eastern Ukraine and Crimea started, we still had meetings with both Russian and Ukrainian colleagues and they were always happy to talk with each other. I was quite surprised about this and asked them at that time if they didnt have bad feelings towards each other given the events happening in eastern Ukraine (this is before the "official" war started). The answer of both of them was that these troubles are the work of politicians, and not of ordinary people. So at that time, they didnt have bad feelings towards each other because of their nationality, which I thought was hopeful and amazing.
    But then the full invasion into Ukraine started and due to the sanctions towards Russia we had to also close our Russian office. And I realised that after a certain amount of blood flows, it will not be so easy to behave like I described above. You start hating the other party and its of course completely logical. If you loose relatives and friends in the war, it becomes personal. I think too much blood has flowed already. It is really really sad. I really loved to work with both my Russian and my Ukrainian colleagues and I wish that one day this can all be fixed somehow.
    Your analysis of the speech of Zelensky, and hearing you, as a Russian, saying such sensitive things and expressing even your understanding and appreciation for the president of Ukraine makes me a little bit hopeful again that everything can eventually be repaired as long as the right people get to make the right decisions. It will surely take time but I hope I live to see that day!

      did any of your old colleagues come from mixed families (i.e. some living in Russia, others living in Ukraine)? I've witnessed countless families broken up by this war, often with the Russian relatives simply refusing to believe the brutal reality that their cousins and in-laws in Ukraine both tell and show them, all at the hands of the Russian Armed Forces. I don't know if anything will ever be able to mend these wounds 😢

    I'm a British expat living in Mongolia. I have a few Russian friends who now live in Mongolia or other countries and who despise the war and Putin. Only one defended Putin and I'm not his friend anymore.
    I understand it's almost an impossible task to overthrow the Putin regime. Personally, if I was Russian, I'd have left the country too.

    • @ashroskell
      @ashroskell 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We may see the impossible happen yet? If America doesn’t ruin everything by easing the sanctions on Russia, this is the year in which Putin will simply fail to make ends meet. Russia’s economy is burning out like the layers of a giant star, getting bigger, bolder and hotter on the outside, while is rapidly burns through layer after layer of its most precious elements until it all, inevitably, collapses suddenly back onto the core.
      We may yet live to see Putin’s regime go supernova. They have been dumping a billion Chinese Yuan every two days to prop up the Ruble since December and they’re running out of gold as fast. Unless Putin can produce some miracle from all those diamonds mines he’s stolen in African countries, I simply cannot see any other way for this to go.
      I don’t know if you were an adult in 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down and Soviet Communism collapsed, but I was. And my biggest take away from that was that anyone who tells you they saw it coming is either misremembering or just making things up. As far as the outside world saw things, the Soviet Empire looked as solid and immovable as ever, with Gorbachev offering small, incremental steps toward peace with the west. Then, boom! Out of a clear blue sky . . .
      So never say never, my friend. All the stars are aligning and, unless Putin really isn’t as dumb as his recent blunders have suggested over the past decade, and has some master plan that none of us see coming, this year is his final year presiding over his empire. He may hold on to power, who knows? But it won’t be over anything bigger than a medium sized European country called Russia, and no longer containing any of the, “federation,” states.
      Personally, I don’t think his oligarchs will let him off the hook for that. Have a good laugh at my expense, this time next year, if I’m wrong. But, just remember, this only works so long as America doesn’t help Putin out.

    Lex Friedman's show mainly appeals to Trump supporters. They equate occasional cussing with powerful emotion, and emotion appeals to them deeply. Zelenskyy carefully tuned his words to reach them. They are the people most likely to urge Congress to deny him arms, but if he can win them over, he can win this war. He has often shown that he knows perfectly well how to behave diplomatically when among diplomats, but he's also a former comedian who knows how to read his audience. In this case it's no joke, and he's not performing for tips, he's performing for the survival of his people.

Continuing the war, no matter what Congress decides, only affects the degree of destruction of Ukraine. Zelensky cannot fail to understand this. Zelenskyy's home language was Russian. He did not learn Ukrainian until he was a teenager.
    Zelenskyy was born in Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine where Russian was commonly spoken, particularly during the Soviet era and its immediate aftermath. Many areas in Ukraine, especially in the eastern and southern parts of the country, have historically been Russian-speaking due to the region's ties to the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Zelenskyy's family spoke Russian at home, a common practice among many Ukrainian families, especially in regions like Kryvyi Rih. Zelenskyy began learning Ukrainian as a teenager and eventually became fluent, using it more consistently in public life as his career progressed.
    Many Ukrainians, including Zelenskyy, are bilingual in Ukrainian and Russian, often switching between the two languages depending on the context. The use of Russian versus Ukrainian has been a sensitive political and cultural issue in Ukraine, particularly after the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea and the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.
    As president, Zelenskyy has actively promoted Ukrainian language and culture, while also advocating for inclusivity toward Russian-speaking Ukrainians. His ability to navigate these linguistic and cultural dynamics has been seen as an important aspect of his leadership, especially in countering Russian propaganda that claims discrimination against Russian speakers in Ukraine.
    Putin needs to be removed, whether by his death or his incarceration and trial for war crimes. Putin's regime needs to be dismembered, and all those members of his regime (from the level of foot soldier up to top national official) who have played a role in the war crimes committed by the regime need to be investigated, and if found probably guilty tried by a tribunal similar to the Nuremberg trials. The Russian Federation must be brought to its knees and forced to undergo massive reforms to government, social norms and jurisprudence. The Orc regime must not only be totally defeated, but the prospect of any similar regime ever again arising in the Russian Federation of any of its constituent states must be squelched as vigorously as possible. Freedom for Ukrainians and for Russians and for ALL humanity.
    END to all Orcs.

    6:56 I believe that at some level, the goal of all political leaders is to stay in power.
    If you're an autocrat, the way to do that is to eliminate those who may oppose you by any means and to cover up matters that would reflect badly on yourself.
    If you're a democratically elected leader, that means providing good governance and creating policies that appeal to people who might reelect you.
    The difference is accountability. Zelensky is accountable to his people. Putin has gone to great effort not to be accountable to anyone but himself.

    • @peezieforestem5078
      @peezieforestem5078 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I am pro democracy, but this is why I must add: for democracy, there is also a populism strategy, where you try to maximize appeal, and gain short-term benefit during your presidency, at the expense of the person after you who will inherit all your problems. It is a big enemy and there is no great solution in sight except the high education and conscientiousness level among the population, which is incredibly hard to achieve.

      This…. You made sense but lex meant by Putin cares is that he sees how Russia is in the best place it has been in 120 years . Thats all he meant he don’t mean Putin is good or just. Putin is awful and scum . The war wil end in a few weeks so none of this matters I hope you guys can go back home I am so happy the war will end

      @helgelk 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @peezieforestem5078 Agree. I'm sure there are other special cases as well; I was simplifying for the sake of brevity. My point is; accountability is the best way to safeguard your power structure against the darker side of human nature, and democracy is the best way to achieve that.

    Your voice is very important. We all must be careful about ill-informed judgments of people in countries not our own. Here in America, we are under the serious threat of our democracy weakening or ending. In discussions on other videos and other social media platforms, some people are saying, "You voted for him." That is not anywhere near a full picture of what's going on here. Trump has support from less than 22% of the American people. ⤵️
    There are several channels of Russian people that I follow .. mostly musicians. I know there are many good Russians. I know that I cannot know with clarity the experiences of the Russian people ... individually and collectively. Your voice is important. I am so glad you are here.

    Natasha very well articulated. The best reaction to this Friedman Zelenskyy interview I’ve heard, I hope Zelenskyy listens to this excellent commentary! Friedman talks about negotiations but fails to call out Putin’s naked aggression and talks about a barbecue with Rogan , what a joke ( Rogan also has swallowed the Putin Appeasement Pill ) and publicly criticises and accuses Zelenskyy of grafting American taxpayers money . Maga wake up

    Natasha thank you so much! I'm so happy to see you didn't take Zelensky saying about hating Russians too close to your heart. He had to say this as many Ukranians died by Russian hands. It shows me how you are not blinded by your emotions and can see truth past them. I wish you all well and yeahh much cares and loves your way!!! You are a great person!!

      Nevertheless Natasha lives partly in denial regarding the perception of Russians. She can not fully comprehend and accept that Russians are largely despised like Germans during WW2. There is no difference in the external perception. And Zelensky largely meant the words exactly like he spoke them out, because that's precisely how the majority of Ukrainians feel. This is not just a tactical phrase he had to make for a certain domestic political reason.

    • @mooserocka522

      @@sk.43821 When your friends or family are killed and your and their homes are destroyed that you worked all life for you can't really blame them for hating Russians as whole but that's the thing. After war there will always be path for redemption but it will be up to Russians if they will choose it or not. So yea I agree with you but I think Zelensky doesn't hate people like Natasha just because they are Russian. I'm not saying Zelensky is lying either I'm just saying that they are blinded by raw survival right now. That's how you survive. It's not how you live once dust settles. And yes some Ukranians will forever hate Russians but some will process it after the war and find peace with them if Russian themselves choose path of regret and structural change of their mindset like Germans did after WW2. But noone can and should expect that out of Ukranians. That is their good will if they choose to forgive after the war as their country was being destroyed together with their people that they will never get back.
