    I bought one! And absolutely love it. It even replaced an Evo X which most people never understand, but the Evo is just not enjoyable day to day. In fact, it's pretty horrific day to day on every level. The Alfa is the opposite. Worth mentioning that the handling is comprehensively transformed with the fitment of the Bilstein B12 kit, and it doesn't affect the ride much, either. It may even have improved it! As for price....er...I got £6k knocked off and 0% interest. It became so cheap to change they nearly had to give me money! And reliability? I haven't been back to the dealers in 8 months. Nothing has gone wrong. Absolutely nothing!

      Hello,
      i know some years have past since you left the comment, but I am thinking of buying one SH (2014 QV model), could you maybe give me some details, on how ownership of the car was/is in terms of reliability, running costs and stuff like that.
      Thank you

      @@M3r1da Just curious did you get one? I have the Alfa Giulietta normal model, not the QV but still love it.

      @@TheBossssssssssss Hi, unfortunately I didn't get one. At that time, there was one model in Germany, that seemed very appealing, but with restrictions and some personal issues I wasn't able to go and see the car. In the meantime I am getting a different car tough, a new Ford focus st, that should arrive at the end of the month.
      I saw that the Giulietta, only comes with an auto from 2018 onwards and I really wanted a manual. Also it switched to veloce instead of qv, but that is not important.

    Fantastic review, but so many of these state that you can't get a manual Giulietta QV.. I have one on a '13 plate, think they ceased production of manuals after '63 plates though. Can reach 100mph in 4th gear (of 6)! Always puts a smile on my face. I bought it in 2019 50k miles for £9k.. not bad value!!

    Alfas have always had that thing when they make you feel a bit special, even after they went fwd and they've always had great seats and quick rack stearing, on the downside suspension components can be a bit fragile in the uk due to our roads. Once you get Alfas and become and Alfisti you'll never really go back to the mass produced cookie cutter alternatives. In the past they had rust issues as most other cars did but those produced in the South of Italy were the worst, I've had a few 156's and they don't do too well on the rust side but my GTV 3ltr was made in the North and it's fine and very entertaining to drive even though I wouldn't say it's very practical as a daily driver.

    • @AliTaylor777
      @AliTaylor777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      clanmac66 I tried the usual suspects before buying the Alfa. The only one that came close was the Focus ST, and they're very similar in so many ways. The Alfa won because.....it's an Alfa! But the Golf R bored me to tears. Most over-rated hot hatch in years. Felt a lot slower than my old Evo and STI, and when you're not pushing it at 10/10ths it' feels like a TDi. A lot of the owners on the VWROC forum are starting to say the same thing. A45 was laughably fast, and had a laughably terrible gearbox. Alfa's TCT isn't perfect, but it's far better than the A45....and the Mitsubishi SST. No hot hatch is worth £40k though. M135i? Worst standard suspension settings I tried. Harsh at speed, wallowy round town. Gave my son car sickness inside of 7 minutes! As for the Mazda? Nice looking car but, Sport? Not with 150bhp.

    • @clanmac66
      @clanmac66 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alistair Taylor I agree with all Mazda not being sporty at all. VW and in fact all German cars are boring. But an Alfa being an Alfa??? Don't tell the rest of the Fiat group that! (Chyrsler, Dodge etc...) As like VW they all use the same platform. To me all sports cars a ridiculously expensive, when you can get a bike that does 0-60 in 2.5 secs top speed over 200 mph for as little as 11K new. Enjoy your new Alfa though, she is lovely.

    • @AliTaylor777
      @AliTaylor777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      clanmac66 The Giulietta is one of the few cars in the FIAT empire with it's own platform. The Dodge Dart has some shared parts but the platform is unique. But it's the looks I wanted, and to be back in an Alfa. Driving the GQV daily is a pleasure, but one that, like Rory said, takes time to creep up on you. I traded an Evo X in for it...though the plan is to use the G for daily use and get something much more ridiculous for weekend. And had to laugh out loud at Rory's "A is for awful". It really is.

    • @pete3198
      @pete3198 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +clanmac66 Looks are subjective, but I am greatly amused by the suggestion that a Mazda 3 looks better than a Giulietta. Really? lol
      Also the bike vs car argument - I've heard it many times, and every time I respond the same way.
      When I can buy a bike that can transport me and two passengers and significant luggage, without me having to wear a ridiculous helmet and thick a weatherproof suit...then let me know. Especially interested to know when there is a bike that I can cruise on without having the constantly knowledge that a collision with a mini would kill me.
      Moral of the story - comparing a bike to a car is like comparing a BMW 5 series. One is completely unsafe and impractical. The other isn't.

      Officially 60mpg, realistically it falls to something like 40mpg, which is still quite good considering the power it has.

      I owned an Alfa 147 a few years back - it sounds silly, but after you have owned one, it makes a lot more sense.
      From a technical/objective point of view, you could argue there are so many flaws. But there there are so many little things about the car that I loved, and that made me enjoy owning the car so much. Little things like the exhaust note, the seats (which were amazingly comfortable and quite supportive too), the steering wheel (best I've ever used), the interior design (which wraps around the driver like an airplane cockpit) and finally just the way you feel when you look at the car after you get out - just a sexy thing.
      After I sold the Alfa I bought a Lexus IS200, which in theory should have been a much less flawed car and a better one in just about every way. But it just wasn't - quite the opposite in fact. I hated it. It had no 'character'. Was boring to drive, was uncomfortable on long drives, wouldn't go unless you revved the beejesus out of it, wouldn't stop, and was nowhere near as agile or as fun to throw around corners. Didn't take me long before I sold off the Lexus - couldn't wait to see it go. Hated it with a passion, and shouldn't have expected anything more from a car made by Toyota - the company that forgot what a 'sports car' was a decade or two ago.

      +Peter H My 147 is still alive. The alternator broke (Bosch), a spark plug cracked and burned the engine cover plus cables and ignition spool. A lot of tiny things broke. The engine starts to drink oil. But still i love this car because it looks gorgeous and just feels great. If the italians once learn to build quality they could achieve so much more. Clarkson and May were absolutely right when they said you have to own one to understand.

    • @pete3198
      @pete3198 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So very, very true.
      I actually just sat in a 4C at an Alfa dealer on Saturday - words can not express how amazing a car that is!

    • @YouThana
      @YouThana 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter H I once heard one of the first 4C in Berlin city traffic and was baffled. Before the 4C i was absolutely convinced that four bangers with a turbo sound crappy. Well, until the 4C, this is Alfa, they can create sound out of a down sizing engine, they can even build small cars that look gorgeous. And may be with the Giulia they get a new car customer with me. I have already seen two undisguised test cars in Frankfurt - just jaw dropping.

    Based on what the presenter said about the logo, the Muslims can declare rightfully declare a jihad on Alfa and its owners. Keep rubbing it in, pal.
