I can understand why a lot of choices from previous DA games do not carry over. However, Morrigan being in the game means choices I made regarding her should matter, so to me, it just screams lazy writing.
Why is she always smiling and so wide? Also even in Inquisition she was still witty and snarky at times. Why does she care about power hungry people wanting power? She craves power, though to preserve it, but she's made it clear in past games she doesn't care about people taking power through questionable methods, she seems to admire it. She mellowed out in Inquisition a bit but kept a degree of her snark and ruthlessness. Here she seems to just have nothing beyond helpful.
20 years have passed since Origins, people change, also I imagine they wanted to give her this attitude for those who have Kieran. In any case, you need to play the game, Morrigan is not the same person of 20 years ago, and the game addresses this.

For instance, in the Skill Up review he complained about the scene where everyone started listing their problems pointing out to new side quests, and I agreed with him, the scene looked ridiculous, but now that I am playing the game and having the context behind it, especially after the amazing main story mission before it, that scene makes a lot of sense. He also mentioned that there is no real conflict in the team, and so far I am seeing conflicts. In that same scene Davrin and Lucanis were having a heated conflict. And way before that there is a mission where you have to choose to save a city, depending on which you choose the character belonging to that city is not very happy with you, and you will have to work double to make that faction and ally, and this even has a direct effect on that character's abilities. I was very negative about the game before release, but now that I am playing it myself, I have come to realize that the game is getting a lot of underserved hate, and that a lot of TH-camrs are taking advantage of rage baiting just to get their views. The game is definitely NOT a 10/10, that's also ridiculous. But the game is actually good. Only the writing so far is the only aspect I find lacking (a lot). So far I am liking the game even more than Inquisition.

Also, the game gives you a reason of why neither the Warden nor Hawke (if alive) are in the game, same reason that can be applied to Kieran, especially if he is the Warden's son, and it still works even if he isn't.

Actually, they are defending Ferelden. The Elven gods started a new (more powerful) Blight and all Thedas is being destroyed by it. While your character is in the north, all the other characters are protecting the south. Denerim, Val Rayoux and Kirkwall have been destroyed. Ferelden forces are setting their defense in Redcliffe with the help of Orzammar, if the Warden survived Origins, he/she is obviously there rallying the forces. Aveline helped the people of Kirkwall to evacuate and headed to Starkhaven to join forces with Sebastian, if Hawke survived Inquisition he is obviously with her too. Meanwhile the Inquisition (or what's left of it) is coordinating the Southern allied forces while defending Orlais. All of this is explained in the game. Kieran is already 20 years at this point, so he is obviously helping in the fight too, especially if he is the Warden's son.
