By May 98 he was the favourite then the rest happened as above and didn't go well. Then came the big injury a few months later and he never came back the same until he reached 32 years and older where he aged like wine.

No i don't think Baggio was better then Alex. I watched both at Delle Alpi stadium when i was young, and pre injury Baggio was as good as pre injury Del Piero. Also Baggio recovered better from injury, Del Piero never came close to what was before injury, never.

Ronaldo unfortunately, although he probably could've competed for the title for the best player in the world and of his generation along with Zidane and Ronaldo had he had a better World Cup given how good he was for Juve, and had he not been injured later year, so who knows. He wasn't fully fit in that tournament unfortunately, and he wasn't always at his best with Italy after that although he still had some satisfying moments at least. It's also too bad he couldn't really play as a trequartista as that might've helped him with Italy, especially as he had slowed down a bit after his injury ad was initially more of an assist-man in his first full season back. Plus he was a nice guy off the pitch and a good leader. Undoubtedly still one of Italy, Juve's, and Serie A's best ever, and one of the best of his generation and in the world in his prime!

Possibly the best mid range shooter along with Gica Hagi. An absolute monster between 95 and 99. After the injury he was still so magnificent. In my view, these years between 1994 and 2006 were the best I have seen in football. Offensive players having to fight against Stam, Cannavaro, Nesta, Maldini, Baresi, Hierro, Nadal, Alkorta, Ferrara, Montero, Blind, Blanc, Ayala, Mihajlovic… Serious thing.

Amazing player at his best, technical, skilful, creative, nimble, explosive, classy, hard-working, two-footed, versatile, and he could score and assist many goals with his vision, passing, movement, and powerful and accurate finishing! Also his trade mark goals alla Del Piero with a dribbling 1 on 1 before cutting inside the left to curl a shot on goal, and his free kicks were amazing! He could've been even greater if not for his 1998 injury, but no, he wasn't better than Messi or C. Ronaldo unfortunately, although he probably could've competed for the title for the best player in the world and of his generation along with Zidane and Ronaldo had he had a better World Cup given how good he was for Juve, and had he not been injured later year, so who knows. He wasn't fully fit in that tournament unfortunately, and he wasn't always at his best with Italy after that although he still had some satisfying moments at least. It's also too bad he couldn't really play as a trequartista as that might've helped him with Italy, especially as he had slowed down a bit after his injury ad was initially more of an assist-man in his first full season back. Plus he was a nice guy off the pitch and a good leader. Undoubtedly still one of Italy, Juve's, and Serie A's best ever, and one of the best of his generation and in the world in his prime!

Del Piero pre-injury was the best italian player after Baggio. I have Totti in 3rd and moreover I have to say Maldini(best defender ever)
It's not a question of better or worse, but of being up to the best. And Del Piero certainly is. Together with Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Pelè, and many others.
