Had to replace the transfer case with the trans it was more than the trucks value at 125k miles. One day the trans gave out completely and I was lucky there’s and transmission fuse under the hood that blew and I replaced the fuse and was able to engage the gears again and drive it for another year like that!

Last year, my grandparents bought a brand new Ford Explorer, and since they bought it, with well less than 10,000 miles on the car, it ended up with a weird noise when going over certain things, so they took it in, and it took the dealer a month of completely disassembling the vehicle to fix the problem. Now, I'm not sure if this is the result of basically taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together, but the front left axle developed a leak. They only bought the Explorer because they found the newer Toyotas they have mostly been driving for like 20 years to be less comfortable than their older one, so they decided to try something different. I have to say I was surprised to see the random issues they have had.

in 30 years, imagine trying to find any computer components for them. not like you can home fab new computer chips when there's none of what you need left on the market.
it's already a problem - early 00s volvo. for one of the control modules, the only choice on the whole internet is a specialty shop in canada that can repair and re-program them. not even possible to get them new.

I’ve got a 2022 Explorer XLT. It’s got almost 30k on it. First Ford I’ve ever owned. It’s been pretty good so far. Mine doesn’t have the auto start stop- they didn’t have the parts lol. I did get it in 2022. I change my oil every 5k. It’s comfortable no nav system built in but it has CarPlay. A couple of weird issues with the Sync system but it’s not a big issue; my 2014 Jeep Compass built in nav system screwed up and I had a hell of a time getting my dealer to fix it. I had to get Jeep involved and dealer replaced & it quit a year later- I brought a little gps for the same price I would have paid the dealer to fix it for a year lol. Extended warranty came in handy.
My dealer I got my Ford from has a 500k warranty on engine tranny and another system as long as oil changes are done at any of their dealers in the state. Plus I have the extended warranty up too 100k. But I also don’t drive like crazy, change the oil every 5k, keep up on regular maintenance no matter what. I’m hopeful it will be a good vehicle for at least 8-10 years. If not I’ll get a Toyota 4 runner hopefully- I need something with room.

I took a ‘92 Explorer to 325,000 miles in 13 years. Of course, I had to drop four grand into it for a new transmission. The engine was pretty good though. Sold it for $700 in 2006 and it ran fine. On the other hand, I now have almost 450,000 on an ‘09 Tacoma having spent way less than a grand in repairs. It still starts, runs and drives like the day it rolled off the showroom floor and I routinely tow over 5,000 pounds. Furthermore, I could get $10,000 for it all day long if I was crazy enough to sell it. Sure, Toyotas might be expensive but they pay for the difference many fold.

And of course I have had to replace things on them. They are old vehicles. The 2010 gets driven daily. When I had my Honda I only had it for 3 years, it had 115,000 miles on it (I bought it at 92,000) and the transmission windowed as I was pulling out of my driveway. 🥺

Scotty i bout an 03 expedition and a 01 f150 - replaced both engines and they are the best running Fords on the road- f150 trans failed, replaced it along with control arms and i bet it will last. No camshaft sprockets to worry about electrical, seats weee taken care of and truck has one dent. Going to last another 20 years, and all in total im in it 14k- expo just did engine runs great, if you can find old fords that were taken care of but have a blown motor and owner will take 1000 for it, i say fix it, now i have 2 4wd trucks, run like new. You just got to get an old vehicle that is loved so after market has all you need, because at ford they are obsolete. They made them better 96-08

In some vehicles, it will wear out the starter motor, but this is where I have to give Ford some credit: Ford's stop/start system stores hydraulic pressure from the gearbox to restart the engine, meaning the starter motor doesn't have to work. Although this system is complex, and can have failures/issues, it doesn't rely on one of the essential components in the engine.

My '02 Explorer lasted almost 275 thousand miles. It ran quite well, no problems with the engine. The frame ended up rusting out, so I got rid of it to a junk yard guy who buys cars. I ended up buying an '06 Eddie Bauer, a Colorado car, from a friend of mine's parents, who just moved back to town here in Ohio. 225 thousand miles, loaded, no rust and runs like a champ. No problem with the electronics. The only issue was with the fuel rail pressure sensor. It used to be an easy fix, but the later 4.0's had the rail with the sensor underneath the intake manifold. Why they couldn't put it on the rail that is exposed is beyond me. Either way, it's a great vehicle. I've owned all Fords over the years. Escorts, a Probe, a Contour, the Explorers and four Mustangs, of which I still own three. One met its fate with deer at 70+ mph, but it was a great car. I hope that Ford gets its act together. They have always made great cars and stout, excellent trucks. They need to get back to what they have always done best.

But I switched to Lexus because the quality of the Ecoboost models is crap, and the better 2.0 Ecoboost model is only available in the Mondeo with that insanely unreliable automatic transmission.
