I replaced mine back in 2018 with a cheap $20 generic clone and now it’s stuck open. Bought an OEM replacement and I’m gonna give it another try, once again using this video as a guide.
Replaced it, thanks for the help! The bolt on the underside was a sucker to loosen and tighten, thankfully the bracket has that cutout so that you don’t have to fully remove that bolt.

I removed and checked the old solenoid with the 9-volt and then bought a new one and saw how the 9-volt makes the sound with the new one. I then installed the new one. Do you think the CEL will go off on it's own or should I clear the codes? Thanks again!!! It was one of the best car videos that I have watched.
In general I usually clear the codes but if you don't it should clear when the engine computer sees no faults after 3 consecutive trips. Just remember, it sometimes takes a while for a the computer to test itself, it needs to see certain parameters like temperature etc.
Just installed an aftermarket purge solenoid. Is there supposed to be play at the tube connections joint where that piece can rotate back and forth and go in and out? The old one didn't have any play (tried turning and pulling on it out of the vehicle).
How did u get to the philips out? When you pull out the solenoid with the bracket? I have to do this as well oh well hopefully it fixes my p0497 & p0457

@@3500savoy definitely take it to a shop just to get diagnosis. I would have saved a lot of money and time if I did that to begin with. If just valve fix it yourself. If canister have them fix canister and fix valve yourself afterwards. Valve is literally a 5 min job but DO NOT strip the hose. If unsure after a easy utube video have them fix both..... If canister is dirty it will make valve dirty but not the other way around.
Hey man! I have a 2011 HONDA ACCORD and on the odometer shows CHECK FUEL CAP, I have already checked the gas cap, I believe its purge valve. Can you tell me where it is located. THANKS VERY INFORMATIONAL VIDEO
The purge valve is located in a similar location on eighth generation 2.4L Accords. Check for trouble codes, a P0455 or P0456 indicate an EVAP leak and will have to be diagnosed. A P145C or P0497 code can point towards a purge issue but be aware there were problems with the purge *joint* (next to purge valve) being restricted from manufacturing defects and causing gas cap message. Other times charcoal from canister gets inside purge line (or valve or joint) and causes restrictions that can set this message.
That was the whole reason for me to watch this video, so I could see where that valve is located and how to remove it and service the darn thing. You need a screwdriver that is rated for J.I.S. (japanese industrial standard), so they fit the screw properly. The one screw that had the slotted hole on the bracket didn't need to be removed at all, just slide the bracket off it after removing the other screw.

Watched both your videos on the evap system! Gunna tackle this on a 97 accord. I was curious If the solenoid is located in the same place on the 97? Having a hard time finding anything on it.
The purge valve on that generation should be in the engine compartment on the right (US passenger) side of vehicle near firewall. There are two different designs on that generation and the purge valve can be normally open or closed depending on engine. The engine computer will purge when coolant temps are above 170 degrees (roughly). The F22B1 and F22B2 engines should have purge valves that are normally closed and when the computer energizes them at 170 degrees then they will open and purge the canister.
Big Dog50001 do you know where the canister vent solenoid is? We lifted up the rear of the car with no luck finding it. Went as far as removing the fuel tank cover to see if it was under there. Would it be located under the hood next to the purge solenoid? This is for the 4 cylinder 97 accord
I initially misread your question, on most of those older models the design is a bit different. There is usually only a two way valve near gas tank and in addition there is the purge control solenoid inside engine compartment near charcoal canister. There is no conventional canister vent solenoid like newer models.
So a competent mechanic would have both that code tester and that voltage tester, as opposed to just shooting in the dark replacing parts and hoping for the best?
For 91 Accords, if there is a charcoal canister in engine compartment then there should be a purge solenoid nearby. Might be hard to find a replacement for it now though.
@@BigDog50001 wanted to update this comment and yes I replaced the purge solenoid since it read 7.8kohms and not clicking,and both codes have not come back been over 150 miles and also all smog monitors are ready. Just in case anyone can use this information.
It is located on the left side of the engine slightly towards the rear, pretty much like the one on the 4 cylinder engine in this video. Those codes indicate a circuit problem and a low flow problem for the purge solenoid.

Kelvin Maldonado I diagnosed it, installed a new purge valve, verified repair and then cleared the codes. The two codes you have are EVAP circuit codes for two different circuits, probably will need a good bidirectional scan tool to diagnose problem.
junior lbc It’s a purge flow issue. It could be several things but I would start with the purge solenoid and see if it is opening and closing properly.
Many times it is a stuck open purge valve. The code means the ECM (Engine Control Module) is seeing Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) readings at the fuel tank that indicate engine vacuum is present when the purge is commanded closed. Generally there should be no engine vacuum at fuel tank when purge is closed. I usually use a scan tool to verify this problem.

@@ceezauto213 There is a good chance the purge valve is intermittently stuck open (or stuck open all the time). It can also cause a lean code (P0171) sometimes due to air being sucked in that was not seen by the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
How often do these go out I just put one on last year and the new one is acting up again it comes on and off when it wants I have a 2005 accord ex v6 what could be causing this?
On the 4 cylinder it is is very close to same location as this vehicle, it is under a fuel bracket that has to be removed. On the 6 cylinder it is also very close to same position in engine bay as this vehicle, the engine cover has to be taken off first.

On the bright side since it's emissions it's not a priority to fix

Changed the part and code still won’t clear . I’ve tried to disconnect the battery and tried with a scanner tool and it’ll just flash and stay on

Hi, i have an 04 honda element same engine with a P0457 and a p0497. It says purge solenoid is the usual cause is this true for these codes?
It is possible a bad purge is causing those codes but other things can cause them too.

You change the evap purge and that erase the code? Because my car have p0499 and P0443
