I don"t remember where i made that comment, but even back at the begining of the year when we were all wondering what was going on, i predicted the studio closure was already in the horizon and may have already have been acted that early.
So sad that it ended this way i truly hoped that it lived up to its promise Now i just hope they explain the situation or release it as open source as unlikely as it is
It is no point of releasing it as open source, the core of the game was not improved and that is the main issue I was hoping they will improve. Even if someone will want to create real KSP 2 and not to create just another cashgrab attempt, they would need to start from scratch anyway.
i never jumped ship thankfully, I have very little trust for Early access games especially from big publishers and given the ksp2s track record of delays i lost all hope. very sad, I hope that they actually manage to sell the ip to someone who'll treat it right.
The flight dynamics and general code was actually a test project by an mirc group. Take two is an obvious situation within the usage of old, yet shared code
I didn't even know the game launched in early access without Re-entry mechanics. Literally a fundamental of the original KSP was that exact mechanic. YEESH.
In the years leading up to the announcement of KSP2, the unresolved bugs in KSP1 were growing by the thousands. KSP1 development was getting roundly criticized for deploying anything that would drive sales (content) while ignoring the vast and growing list of bugs. When KSP2 was announced, I said, "they haven't fixed KSP1 yet, why would I buy another game from them?" Nothing that happened after that was a surprise. What they did with KSP2 is the perfect culmination of what was already visible.
its common practice today that games are years in early access I can understand that for small development team of one but not for bigger studios to shipment garbage and not finished product. Mostly we - paying customers are the reason that this practice is so common today - we tolerate it and we pay for “garbage”
Thanks for the video! Really enjoyed it. Longtime Kerbal player and big Kerbal space program 2 supporter. The thing that bothers me the most is that the roadmap is still presented when you purchase with no sign anywhere that it’s been discontinued. At least a banner saying game is, “as is” would be much appreciated.
KSP2 was full of red flags the moment it was announced, and people still threw their money at it gleefully... Now they make videos complaining that they were duped... But next time something that's an obvious cash grab comes along they will hand over their hard earned money again, then once again complain... demanding refunds and refusing responsibility once again. The same people pay for pre-ordering games that are exclusively distributed via digital services, then complain about what they bought based off a cinematic trailer. It's like having a cry over a mobile game not being the same as the advert, it's comical. No, KSP2 had a lot of red flags. First, it was a sequel that was being released as an early access beta. It's an established title, if they are bringing this in a beta it's a bad sign, especially if the beta is actually an early build alpha like KSP2 was (and still is). Second, charging full AAA prices for an early alpha build of a sequel. Massive red flag this one, if this didn't slap sense into you then nothing would. Third, stupidly ambitious roadmap. The technical challenges involved in their roadmap alone threw up flashing warning signs, but the sheer number of massive game features would have been enough to make a rational person think twice before buying. It's like seeing an advert for cream that's going to enlarge your member by 4 inches and thinking "I'M SOLD!" before putting in your card details. The last red flag that got me was the sorry sack they put in charge of this game. If you know enough about him you know why that should have made you stop and pause. He literally said that wobbly rockets are going to stay "because it makes the game fun". God no, just no. It's the worst part of the game by far. People did EXACTLY the same thing with Cities:Skylines 2. Another soulless cash grab that people payed full price for and got an early alpha build for a sequel. Then they complained, again... All the same red flags as KSP2. Stop giving your money to companies that have no intention of delivering on their promises. You're literally the problem with the games industry, you are the people incentivising companies to produce complete garbage.
Couldn't agree more, unfortunately the vocal part of the KSP community artificially set up such a toxic positivity scenario regarding KSP2 with all the "let's hope for the best!" talk that the obvious has been swept under the rug. This was doomed from day 1 and it stuck out like a sore thumb to anyone with minimal common sense even back then, those who paid for this honestly don't deserve a refund
At the end, this tale, is a tale that, everyone, share a bit of blame. ShadowZone had too big hopes about the project. Maybe he was lied, like most of us, or maybe, he blisfully believed that, somewhat, somehow, KSP gonna make a NMS return, game that is an exception, not something usual, with a nearly toxic positivity vibres. Us, as a consumers, also share the blame, believing the mantra "that is better a delayed game than a rushed game" (not said by the guy that many people believe, in fact...😅) and didn't want to see and aknowledge the problems that was also visible by a keen eye, way before was released. Luckily, I didnt fall to this trap when I saw months before release some fishy things, but I also share a bit of blame to truly beliebe that KSP2, gonna become something incredible good
I definitely think there should be an option for a refund on failed ea games ! I think those who paid 50$for a game k in development, even from a prominent studio, now realize what can happen - they can be cheated (there's just no other word for it) out of their money, even by the biggest studios and until Valve doesn't change their refund policy - we should all stop buying games in development (out even in general) because once it hurts their bottom line they will make the change to satisfy the customers, which are us ! I think people have a short memory and too quickly forget these incidents and that's why it continues to happen, ever since the move to digital purchase of games we have been cheated and lied to and manipulated out of millions of dollars by those big studios, the resellers and some indie developers - and now is being done by the big ones - THIS NEEDS TO STOP
People should of known it was dead in the water the moment they saw it was being developed in Unity. While not a horrible engine, it isn't good for KSP, because how the physics only runs on a single core it was always gonna run like crap, all while having updated graphics. Legit no reason to want to buy KSP2 unless they updated the engine, or unless Unity could be updated to work with it. You can literally make KSP2 in KSP1 via Mods and it looks and runs better. The only reason we wanted KSP2 was for a updated engine and code to work with, but instead they decided to use old code and a crap engine for this kind of game.
@AverageSuperNova not sure what's funny, might wanna read my whole comment. TLDR: I'm saying, it was a bad choice to go with Unity again cus Ksp1 is proof its a bad idea.
@@Gutigwolfe the way the comment was phrased made it sound like ksp2 moved to a worse engine rather than staying on the same questionably effective one, my bad
@AverageSuperNova naw, I was saying how it was bad to use it again, along with the spagetti code. All they were making was Ksp1 all over again but worse. Better off just modding Ksp1, least it actually functions well for most part. We wanted an updated version of Ksp, but it was essentially the same game in a lesser state, with nicer stock graphics and sound.
@@Gutigwolfe you're pay doesn't read like that - @averegesupernove is right - it sounds like you are claiming unity is the issue with ksp2 and it's not clear that you are aware that ksp1 was also developed in unity...
Yeah, returned it after 20 minutes. I feel I'm a lucky one. It would have been so much better to have a DLC with community mods. Lunar bases & modules for bases on gas planets. . . Validating a non-modded trade system, or player objectives. . . anything. Disappointment is a good word. Sadly, abandonment fits. Thank you for your many videos, I discovered your channel through Starbse.
I didn't even buy it. I was waiting for their interstellar colonization update that never came, as KSP1 tends to need a supercomputer to run stuff like that. I eventually grew tired of waiting and built said supercomputer, and I'm glad I did.
KSP went beyond the typical "impossible port" to become a game whose very existence should have been impossible. It is no surprise that a team that wasn't as dedicated would manage to produce a successor - as the original was itself nearly impossible, a sequel would be that much harder.
It’s like selling a dead plant with the promise it will bloom into beautiful greenery at this point. Yeah early access is a risky purchase as it doesn’t always go the way you’d hope, but this is a post mortem project at this point. It being still listed on steam is either incompetence, or them playing stupid and milking extra money from it by fooling customers and having plausible deniability behind not having an official statement.
Even when you first made this comment both the recent and all-time reviews were in the negative. Not only will that paint a bad picture for anyone going to the steam page, but there’s also a point where the reviews get so bad that steam actually reduces how often the game is presented in a queue or anywhere else that isn’t a direct search
I feel like that statement that it doesnt matter how or why it failed is fundamentally wrong. How and why is how we prevent it from happening the same way again. Ideally. There have been a lot of games handed over to money hungry studios and left out to rot. A lot of the things that made old games good like the writers, art design, and the people with the passion for the original game and its universe were either forced out or left becayse they could no longer tolerate what direction the game that they helped build is going in because someone new felt like a change was in order despite the ip being wildly popular when it was bought.
i agree - if they lie to us we should take company to courts or something and but if steam was take repsonibily of dealing with abandonware - there should be moved to speical section like abandoned games where speical warning banners and refunds would be permitted without any limits so also they should open source the game itself as well for community to work on to make better but if they fail to deal with - its would better is place red list of abandoned games in separate store page where cheap and no support offered for game also remove dev and publisher from right side and put abandoned tag there to show its abandoned to prevent this - if game goes in early access and fails - then steam should remove early access from that publisher or developer then shunt to abandoned game store page where its will be there but in event if IP transferred to other studio or what happens - then steam can reinstate it and shunt back to main store page on early access or full release however - if dev or publish not issued updates or what else - then game should remian as abandoned for forever in speical abandoned game store with big banners displaying no support or its abandoned

Not so fun fact: the game officially hit "mostly negative" for it's lifetime reviews while I played for 17 hours, way past the refund mark, I personally still wish I could get a refund, out of sheer principle
@@alexb-mc4jo I got a refund at 50+ hours just a couple week ago, owned since release. Just be persistent, respectful and more specifically - know your rights👍 You might want to look into the early access program rules placed on developers to support your refund, there's a few violations there where steam should have protected us but didn't - wilful ignorance or negligence on their part.
The players don't even have any room to defend their rights. Not to mention the trust and love they have shown over the years, their money was just taken away.😢 Just pay my money back, I will turn to Skylines2
The policy is that Steam warns people who are buying EA games that they are unfinished, and may never be finished, There won't be any sort of mass refunds. Take Two won't make any sort of statement. They never have been forthcoming with info in any way, and they aren't going to start now.
wait what ? community is angry because we don't know what is happening ? are you serious ? I mean who gives a F about pretty scatters if rockets can't get to orbit due to game breaking bugs ?! This was a sham, and the only good thing we've all got out of this whole exercise was a decent advert.
We blame the makers of KSP2 for the game being abandoned and not being developed further. True, there were too many bugs. Promises that were not kept in the beginning. And far from perfection. But do the players who gave negative reviews, especially on steam, also have a part in the further development of the game being stopped. What would you do if you had a company that had a product that has almost mostly negative reviews and no more sell? Apart from the fact that it was the company, in this case the software company, that was the cause in the first place. But because of that, there is a flood of negative reviews. Would you, as software company, still sell such a product and develop it further? Note. I also paid full price for the purchase and am also not very happy with the fact that KSP2 was abandoned. But don't just blame only the developers, Take 2, but also the gamers. I think they are also part in the failure of KSP2

LOGIC, ohh that's what is required for computer programing... i could give a crap about art.. i wanted to build massive infrastructure in the game..... I estimate that over 4million people world wide bought the game at what 50 or 60 dollars a pop.... thats 250million in revenue.... and the parent company is popping smoke on the game, WTF.... there has to be a legitimate reason and i think its a broken foundation...... on top of that they want to sell the intellectual rights for a further profit... if tesla goes to the moon and im sitting on a few hundred million i would go directly to Elon and ask him for support and programmers in a joint venture to create the ksp2 (not buying the rights from the liars but starting from scratch) that we all want for cost on my part..... i think they could probably start from scratch and have it done inside of 2 years..... on top of that it would be a training aid for kids to learn space crap for the whole mars project..... this whole thing broke my heart!
Found out the game died yesterday. I only have like 7 hours of gameplay and bought it back in March last year. Didn't get my refund. I'm not sure how they can fix this it's incredibly frustrating.
My god you sound like your girlfriend just dumped you. The people that bought this only have themselves to blame. Don't buy early access, it's that simple.
I know. This was an obvious scam from the moment it was announced. Everything about it was a clear cash grab. Cities skylines 2 is exactly the same. Never buy early access for sequels from large well funded studios. They're always a cash grab. Always.

From the dream that was "mun or bust" on ksp1 main menu..
I don"t remember where i made that comment, but even back at the begining of the year when we were all wondering what was going on, i predicted the studio closure was already in the horizon and may have already have been acted that early.
So sad that it ended this way i truly hoped that it lived up to its promise
Now i just hope they explain the situation or release it as open source as unlikely as it is
It is no point of releasing it as open source, the core of the game was not improved and that is the main issue I was hoping they will improve. Even if someone will want to create real KSP 2 and not to create just another cashgrab attempt, they would need to start from scratch anyway.
@@BigMasterSabre yhea the thing I was hoping to get out of it being open source is the ip
All this was painfully obvious the moment they started releasing pre-rendered trailers with fuck all in terms of in game footage .
i never jumped ship thankfully, I have very little trust for Early access games especially from big publishers and given the ksp2s track record of delays i lost all hope. very sad, I hope that they actually manage to sell the ip to someone who'll treat it right.
The flight dynamics and general code was actually a test project by an mirc group. Take two is an obvious situation within the usage of old, yet shared code
THe one game that topped off Cities Skylines 2 in being terrible.
Except at least it knew it was still in early access.
When KSP2 was announced, I said, "they haven't fixed KSP1 yet, why would I buy another game from them?"
Nothing that happened after that was a surprise. What they did with KSP2 is the perfect culmination of what was already visible.
I'd rather see the game die than let Paradox add rocket parts for 15$ each. It's a shame nonetheless
its common practice today that games are years in early access I can understand that for small development team of one but not for bigger studios to shipment garbage and not finished product. Mostly we - paying customers are the reason that this practice is so common today - we tolerate it and we pay for “garbage”
Guys. Lets stop paying for early access.
I agree, there really should be some form of disclaimer
This was doomed from day 1 and it stuck out like a sore thumb to anyone with minimal common sense even back then, those who paid for this honestly don't deserve a refund
i never bought it, and i am still pissed off because Nate killed the franchise
Luckily, I didnt fall to this trap when I saw months before release some fishy things, but I also share a bit of blame to truly beliebe that KSP2, gonna become something incredible good
The IP is worth money. They’ll sell it if anything.
THIS HAS STOPPED for me. I just don't buy any games on pre-sale.
The only reason we wanted KSP2 was for a updated engine and code to work with, but instead they decided to use old code and a crap engine for this kind of game.
the original ksp also used unity lol
Woulda been better if they used a upgraded engine and code.
Wait! The Team’s formulating a plan to release the IP.
So I guess only time will tell
Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt!
the copium and hopium
Sucks I play enhance edition and I can’t use mods or download crafts.
Oh no, huge gaming corpo was being shady and straight lied to their customers! Unthinkable, how this even possible? :)))))
A lot of the things that made old games good like the writers, art design, and the people with the passion for the original game and its universe were either forced out or left becayse they could no longer tolerate what direction the game that they helped build is going in because someone new felt like a change was in order despite the ip being wildly popular when it was bought.
i agree - if they lie to us we should take company to courts or something and but if steam was take repsonibily of dealing with abandonware - there should be moved to speical section like abandoned games where speical warning banners and refunds would be permitted without any limits so also they should open source the game itself as well for community to work on to make better
but if they fail to deal with - its would better is place red list of abandoned games in separate store page where cheap and no support offered for game also remove dev and publisher from right side and put abandoned tag there to show its abandoned
to prevent this - if game goes in early access and fails - then steam should remove early access from that publisher or developer then shunt to abandoned game store page where its will be there but in event if IP transferred to other studio or what happens - then steam can reinstate it and shunt back to main store page on early access or full release
however - if dev or publish not issued updates or what else - then game should remian as abandoned for forever in speical abandoned game store with big banners displaying no support or its abandoned
its sad that KSP2 had such an amazing and passionate dev team, they didnt kill it. the company failed them.
The day the game was released I knew this was just going to happen. I just had a gut feeling
as somone who found ksp right befor ksp2 came out im so sad. i fell in love with ksp and was so excited for ksp2 because its such a one of a kind game and im just so disappointed. im still waiting on citys 2 to be playable and prison architect to come out and not meet the same fait as ksp2.
Not so fun fact: the game officially hit "mostly negative" for it's lifetime reviews
while I played for 17 hours, way past the refund mark, I personally still wish I could get a refund, out of sheer principle
You can still get a refund if you contact Steam customer support. Just tell them that the game is no longer in development.
@@alexb-mc4jo I got a refund at 50+ hours just a couple week ago, owned since release. Just be persistent, respectful and more specifically - know your rights👍
You might want to look into the early access program rules placed on developers to support your refund, there's a few violations there where steam should have protected us but didn't - wilful ignorance or negligence on their part.
Squad should retake ksp2 and finish it on their own
I’ve been waiting for the colonies update before I bought the game. I’m just now checking in and it seems like I made the right choice.
they should release the source code
The players don't even have any room to defend their rights. Not to mention the trust and love they have shown over the years, their money was just taken away.😢
Just pay my money back, I will turn to Skylines2
Looks like I was lucky to be on Mac
Thats just fucking sad
We should sue them
Off to Juno 😢
Waited many years for this game... And got scammed of my money not very happy Would definitely like to sue the company
The policy is that Steam warns people who are buying EA games that they are unfinished, and may never be finished,
There won't be any sort of mass refunds.
Take Two won't make any sort of statement. They never have been forthcoming with info in any way, and they aren't going to start now.
Don’t worry, AI will be able to make a perfect KSP sequel in a few years.
wait what ? community is angry because we don't know what is happening ? are you serious ?
People was absolutely pissed of because since day one those bozos concentrated on pretty visuals rather than making an actual game :/ No wonder they have been reshuffled few times - exec are dumb but no that dumb not to see that there is no progress other than pretty engine plum ! They even set them self some goals like colonies etc - and rather than delivery that is a rough form they were showing of new graphics for planets ... I mean who gives a F about pretty scatters if rockets can't get to orbit due to game breaking bugs ?!
This was a sham, and the only good thing we've all got out of this whole exercise was a decent advert.
Har, har, har😂 you guys defended these lying scammers when they released this unfinished hunk of shit.
Another tale of a greedy studio pushing their devs to release a game that’s not ready now we have three overwatch two cyberpunk 2077 and KSP two hopefully this doesn’t happen with GTA six
I pay for this game 240pln and i sad :(
so is ksp dead forever? will development resume on KSP 1?
Wasn't the game sold in early access?
Take-Two is a complete disgrace to the whole gaming industry!
Imagine they just put the money into developing this garbage to just expand ksp1. What an awful business plan.

I think they used the same physics engine and game engine...whatever, i couldn't program my way out of a paper bag but i think the kraken issues prove that they were using the same foundation... then tac on the requirements to create colonies with millions of parts, we would need Elon's tesla dojo processor to run the game...... i think it was doomed from the start, i think Nate is an artist and approached things from an emotional point of view instead of a logical point of view...
Coming back from months of backpacking, and apperently KSP2 is dead now
Found out the game died yesterday.
Always.
While the public is owed communications from the company, that is the only useful thing of this video. It again yet another speculation clickbait. The failure to communicate is equal to the useless videos claiming "facts".
