Hey Nick, Just wanted to take a minute and say thank you for your videos... There have been several that have helped me out on my 88 Comanche with the renix including this video when I found out my bearings were bad. Also thank you for the Renix engine monitor it too has been a life saver.
Amazing job. Really helped me out. I got a free 89 xj which is an insane score in 2021. 4.0 4x4 automatic with power windows and a broken wheel bearing.
Dude anytime i have a problem with my shyt your the guy to go too. Im having this same problem. Leaking seals and a loose stearing column that im tackling tomorrow. Rock n roll
Nick! You rule dude! I’m going to tackle this job on my 89 xj sport. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the xj vids, extremely helpful and saves my wallet from starvation.
My bearings lasted past the axle shaft blowing up so not sure what to say. Gotta keep it seriously clean though, any metal chunks will destroy bearings in no time.
Thanks man, very helpful, friend of mine has an 89 YJ with a seal leak

I have those same axles in my 89 Limited, but I still find some differences in other parts because mine is an export version. That has given me some headaches finding info :)
I second what @wyattoneable said!! Question for you though regarding this job. I have I think the same car as you but as I looked up the kit on RockAuto, I see there's a kit for Dana 44 or AMC Model 35. How do you know which one you have?? THANKS again for all your sharing and playing the guini pig!
You can tell by the diff cover bolt pattern. The 35 is the more common one and looks round. The 44 only came on tow package equiped jeeps and has a more defined octogon where the ring gear sits. Google has great pictures
@@NickInTimeFilms I hunted some down at 4wd hardware. It was not easy 🤣😂 And using a harbor freight h frame press. It will be exciting weekend 130$for complete kit. I'll defend be taking pics before dismantling.
Nice clear video that wil help a lot o my '87 Cherokee Renix with DANA rear axle. Only critique is that the audio is very muffled making your commentary a little difficult to understand at times.
Every parts store online and physical is trying to sell me bearings that do not have the conical shape that these and my bearings have... Is it ok to replace these bearings with non conical shaped ones???
What year is your Jeep? The press on style bearing and race shown in this video is only for non c-clip axles from 87-90. the 91 and newer uses a straight bearing which sits inside the housing instead of pressing on the shaft. They are not compatible with each other as the bearing retainer ring is what keeps the axle in the vehicle.
NickInTimeFilms I have an 89. It's the non c clip version of the Dana 35 just like your showing here. So what you're saying is I need bearings just like these? Would be great if you had a part number because I'm struggling to find the right ones.
rndincircles I bought the parts off rockauto.com , Part Number: USA10043 - Bolt in Axle Bearing & Seal SET9, Timken Brand Rear, 4WD, AMC Model 35. The kit comes with the Seal, Bearing, and Lock Ring, only services one side so you need to buy two. It's a bit expensive, but it uses timken bearings.
rndincircles I don't think so. It doesn't say bolt in Axle Bearing and if you search the alternate part number they give you "R1563TAV" it looks like it's only for 90-01 D35's so it's for C-clip axles.
Like, inner as in the carrier bearing? That's a lot more involved as you have to take the whole carrier out and get the bearing pressed off and on. Also requires the know how to make sure the gears are still set up correctly when they are installed into the housing.
Thanks for the help, Just a question, you used a federal mogul seal inner of the differential, you know what is this part number? I used AK SET9 but this use just a one seal ;(
Video is 9 years old but it’s helping me tackle my axle shaft replacement I’m doing tomorrow on my ‘89 YJ. Much appreciated sir!

Are the parts the same as regular dana 35???
Thanks for sharing! This is the only video I have found for a non c clip Dana 35!
This is the forth time I looked up a "how to" on my 87 XJ and your videos come up. Thanks, this helped a lot.
Haha, nice. I've had a lot of "been there, done that moments" but it makes for good content
I've done a ton of rear axle seals and this is the first non C clip dif I've seen. Thanks for the vid.
thanks brother i just picked up a non c-clip axel , you are a life saver
My bearing failed only after about 2 months, shouldn't we pre-seat the bearing race first? Have you had any issues post install?

@@NickInTimeFilms 10-4 thanks for responding!
Friggin perfect! Exactly what I needed. 🙏🏻
Thank you for this. Very helpful. Especially the parts list.
Hey I got the non c clip Dana 35 in my 88 xj. Could you tell me everything I need to buy for replacing the rear drivers side axle shaft? I’m confused.
Thanks dude, you Rock. I always see your videos to Guided me when I need to fix my Cherokee Chief 88.

Wouldnt the outer seal face the other way to keep water, dirt, dust out of the bearing?

I have to do this asap on my jeep as well.
When ordering parts. Are the parts the same for c clip and non c clip 🤔
C clip bearings are different then non c clip

May replace with Dana 44 in the future if it doesn't hold up 🙏ima baby it till than.
Thanks so much this was 💛a big help
Hey how many tons is your press?.Great video.
20 tons of chinese muscle straight from the ikea for men from across the shores; A harbor freight special.
Was that a tapered bearing or square

part numbers in the description, I ordered from Rockauto.
NickInTimeFilms awwww I'm on a phone all the time and couldn't just see the description. Thanks for pointing that out.
If the axle doesnt slide in like this video you maybe have to hammer outer race in first.
do you happen to have the part numbers of all the pieces you bought?

Not being funny but my inner bearing failed and broke how in the heck do you replace that?
