Very helpful in understanding the C-clip set up inside the differential. Still don't understand how it happened but cruising in my '68 Camaro last week the C-clip on the driver's side came loose and the wheel and axle nearly left the car at 60mph on the highway. There was no noise or vibration beforehand to suggest anything was wrong. Had been cruising on good quality Yukon axles for 7 years and 25,000 miles. The button on the end of the axle did not break off.
Oh no! something similar happened to me this morning in my Tribeca! My c clip is stuck in the diff and my cv is sliding around like an errant child then my car turns into an angry cat with a harness on. lmao
1-15-2023 working on a 04 grand marquis. trying to get the drivers side rear axle out but the axle won't push in to get the c clip off. any ideas on what is stopping it. I believe maybe the bearing wore a grove into the axle but i just replaced the axle and bearing and seal a month ago. there is almost no play in the drive shaft too. maybe a quarter of a inch. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks
The magnetic don't work for me. Been fighting my c clips for 30 minutes. I have non c on jeep. One time I was driving down the road and the tire and axle walked out. Not a fun day
Haha.. I must admit that this was the thing that terrified me the most when first working on Jeeps. One time I had the spider gears all fall out and started pricing out new axles!.. In the end, it is pretty hard to mess up an open differential. It all only goes one way and if it spins at the end of the day it is fine.
thank you the info about the spider gears saved my life.

Only video tht really showed me how to do everything now time to go take it out ND put this lsd in it
Thanks man. Now if you could do a step by step on changing a 12 bolt GM from 4:11 to 3:42 that would be great. ;)
I (Doug) and not a GM guy, but maybe I can coax Eric (GM expert) to do one. Subscribe and I'll do my best. Haha
thanks bud.
this was the best explanation i found on youtube tonight on how to avoid your spider gears from falling out
A+
"Have the carrier where you want it before you take out the crosspin."
I think you just saved me a lot of grief when I do this tomorrow.

I got offroad a lot with my car and toe often. Should I invest in stronger C pins? I'm in the process of upgrading my bearings and seals already.
Got the c clips out now both my axles wont come out
Awesome vid- thanks for the help👍🏼
Thank you for this!
Good questions below but when viewers have problems getting the C clip out D&E is silent?why?
Fat thumbs up dude thanks
THANKS buddy
Hey how ya doin. In regards to the c-clip, do they wear out or ever need replacing?
They do not
Driver side axle of a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 L wont go in enough for the driver side axle Clip 2 come out in the rear what do I do
I have a 2008. Didn’t know this was a potential problem. I would also like to know the answer.
Great video. Thank you.
My current issue is the C clip is stuck inside the differential. so magnets have been ineffectual.
I can’t stand c clip axles. Haven’t had to replace a rear axle shaft on the trail yet but I know it’s gonna be a royal pain when it happens.
Why did you have to remove the spider gears?
I was installing an auto locker to the rear diff. That video should be out this weekend

Dana 35 yep. Think I lost a couple of teeth off the ring gear. Doh!
My axel wont move in enough to get the c clip out ):
Just now getting around to installing that locker?lol....
Yep.. That video will be out on Saturday, but here is a teaser.. The install was a giant FAIL..
Is there a C clip on both axle ?
Yes
My spider gears fell out whoops
Easy for you to do. If I do this my car will be stuck in reverse. I just know it. LOL

You removed 1 axle doesnt it have 2? Does the same clip do 2 sides if so? I have posi so I want to know how to remove both
Shit ain't that simple. Always leaving out steps
I hate c clip axles!
