When growing a channel, the biggest (and most vaguely described) thing you'll hear about is 'the algorithm'. This video brought a lot of clarity on the topic that I definitely needed, thank you!
The algorithm is according to what you said & it is how I see it based on all my chats with partner support: The algorithm will sometimes choose to digest the video to people it knows will watch it but it to suggest it to non (what ever your channel focuses on) Then it will suggest it to even more & more people that are not at all interested in the content until it reaches 0% It’s designed to kill growth by the 2nd or 3rd day. Often it will see that a video got 1000s of views & many people are coming to your channel for that topic. You then upload another video on that topic & it will literally not suggest the video for 2-3 days, then all of a sudden it rip suggest it to non interested viewers. It is a terrible system that kills small channels. I know dozens of TH-camrs that all have this problem. I know them personally & we discuss these things. I have a friend that has videos with almost 90k views but he only has 600 subs. It’s disgusting. All our subscribers should get our videos suggested to them. But TH-cam refuses to go back to that “Unfair” system lol 😂

Having just started a new channel and having abandoned one 10 years ago, I am seeing a massive contrast in the fact that TH-cam is now putting my videos in front of people’s faces whereas 10 years ago (and probably until fairly recently) I would’ve had to do a lot of social media marketing to get people to see my videos.

Do you have any experience on how viral videos work with the algorithm - my biggest video is a really broad appeal video and it has 2.8M views - but it wasn't in a particular niche my channel was know for and my audience is fragmented from covering a variety of content. I'm now thinking I need to focus on the broad appeal kind of videos loosely in my niche but obviously being broad enough means the niche itself is less important. Essentially Ali Abdal has still done very well making broad appeal videos on multiple topics right?
I think you can do multiple spin offs of your 2.8M views video and it will do incredibly well "What the pocket knife community doesn't want to talk about" (When you do this video and it gets 1M views, you can thank me later) "What outdoor campers doesnt want to talk about" etc... you get the point, replicate your most successful video, you the concept and apply it to new topics
Our channel has now been going nearly 4 years. We have 152 videos regularly posted every week at the same time, about the same topic. The thumbnails are of a style that should work, along with the titles, descriptions, images etc. But its slow building. 347 subs to date and an average view number per episode of 150. HELP. What can we do?
I just clicked the channel quickly - the thumbnails seem way too busy; too much text, with the image not focused in enough on the thing you want to show off. Titles don't really seem particularly appealing to new viewers. Hope this helps! Please bear in mind I do not know the niche at all.
