I believe TH-cam pick who they want to be the top creators. Plus, for the videos, they pick which one they really want to push through the algorithm. Because I have one video to hit 73K and then the other ones they don't even do nothing. My watch time was up now it's going down. Some of the small channels content be better than the ones with 100K+ subs. At this point TH-cam need some adjustments.
Ditto. I had a 71K video but far too early in my TH-cam journey. This video became a liability as soon as the 1 year mark rolled by. Why must watch hours be taken away if you have made it? For what reason? Then I see bad rediculous channels explode. Makes no sense. From 71K views I could not get a 1000 people pressing the subscribe button. Really??
Yeah the algorithm is crazy. It’s random etc. Most of our shorts (RC CHANNEL “niche”) get 440-500 views within a couple hours. Then they completely stop right there. Then every 12-24 hours slowly get 10-15 views per day. Or stop completely. Then occasionally one short will get 3k-10k views quickly then stop and get the same 10-15 views per day. The ones that get more views seem no more exciting than the others. It just seems random… 🤷🏻♂️
Same happening to my videos now. YT suddenly stops putting out impressions for all my videos. Now I’m only getting 2-300 impressions in 24 hours for my entire channel.
I have an ad observation that I find curious. I only watch TH-cam on my TV, so I don't know if this is on all platforms but in longer videos TH-cam now shows many ads back to back, which isn't new, but what is new is that a notification comes up on screen on the second ad saying to "watch through the next ad to see fewer ads later in the video". To me, that is encouraging people to watch an ad they would ordinarily skip. If the creator says "watch the ad through, it really helps the channel" - promoting people to watch an ad through they otherwise would have skipped, they can get penalised and TH-cam, if they think this has been done will get money back from the creator. Does this happen on all platforms, like for mobile viewers, or just TV?
None of it works. None of it. I have many returning viewers who leave comments. I have a high number of likes in regards to the number of visitors. Thumbnails okay. I had one video badly edited that went viral but previous to that my highest video was 5,000 views on a video I filmed in a dark bar , poor lighting speaking to a Liberian refugee who fought for General Butt naked. No intro or outro, very poor thumbnail silly title but was leaps and bounds WORSE than the videos I used to sweat over. I followed many of these Gurus to NO avail. It's pot luck. Been on under 3,000 for over a year now and actively posting since 2018! I treat it as a hobby. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
Right there with you good sir! I get great engagement, high retention, but still my videos get put into the wrong audiences, or just instantly drops off once it reaches a certain view count. I genuinely think that it's pure luck as well, or sellout success. I don't make these stupid informative videos either that EVERY "how to grow your channel" video caters to. I've had channels blow up in the past but just because I jumped on trends, but the moments those trends died, so did my channel. It's all about how to be relevant for 10 days kinda tips. It's stupid
That's what I was thinking, I feel like a lot of so called 'tips' on how to grow are based off pre-existing stats that new channels do not have at all.
I hit 600 subs yesterday! I’m feeling happy about it! Hoping will hit 1k by this year end! Cheers all the best guys! Its a long journey, just make sure you do what you LOVE!
After 4 years of being a food TH-camr, I honestly think titles are the hardest thing to get right! Thumbnails are a close second! 😹 Great video, Rob! 😻
@@Drstuddwell - I create step-by-step recipe videos, but I do occasionally post entertainment videos, like reading hate comments (😹), or trying 13 different supermarket cheese and onion sandwiches! I've also uploaded some travel food vlogs too, but these tend to get a lot less views when compared to my usual content ... 😻
I am also gonna upload cooking videos , after some time. But it's surprising some food content creators reach 1million really fast others take so much time. Any answer for this.
Spot on since the beginning, which is why I am HIGHLY WISHING that there was a feature for creators to be able to Publish and Notify ONLY to subscribers who have been returning viewers for an X-Amount of time. Unfortunately, many channels die out if they were Part of a Changing Trend, or if they were Giving Education that a person would move on from. And a part of the huge reason has to do with publishing to the subscription tab and accumulating the low Impression Click Through Rate. I would very much rather have a video be impressed to 100 subscribers and clicked on by 50-60 of them, than to have a video be impressed to 100,000 of them only to be clicked by 50-60 of them.
The community tab doesn’t work if TH-cam doesn’t show your subscribers or past viewers the actual community post. I have over 2K subs and YT will only do 10-30 impressions on that post. Really? It baffles me.
Your channel helped him to get monetization in a year as well as to reach the first million views, the effort you put into each video is unmatched!!! Thank you !!!
"Shadow Banned" is a cop-out term. Tempting to use, yes. When you work hard on something and you really think it will work, but it doesn't, that's understandably frustrating. But you need to get back up and try something different. You can absolutely do it.
No. The TH-cam algorithm wants thousands of channels rehashing the same old stuff over and over and over again. That makes for a happy algorithm. In my opinion it makes for a boring platform.
@@SonetLandman You may have heard this before but substitute "algorithm" with "audience" and re-read your comment. The audience DOES like familiar formats but they def don't want the same content over and over again. Plus, if they were bored by the platform, they simply wouldn't be here. Yet they are. So there's a contradiction somewhere in your thinking. I'm no success story, myself. But I urge you to keep at it and don't let disappointment take over. Cheers.
I'm sorry, but I must disagree. Every time I come to this channel, I leave more frustrated than before . I hear you say in almost every video that The "algorithm" (if there even is one) will show your content to a sample audience to get a feel for which viewers the video appeals to. I have dozens of videos with absolutely NO impressions, I have even more with less than 5 impressions. I even have one video that's been up for almost 9 months with NO impressions. But I never here any experts explain why these videos never get a chance for an audience to sample. It's a very simple equation that even I can work out: If viewers don't get an option to view, then the video will get No Views ! In between a long run of Zero impressions, I promoted One video on a 3rd party Ad platform for 12 hours.. This video received a few hundred views, which was amazing, compared to what I'd gotten used to. The views corresponded with the stats on the AD platform. But according to TH-cam, these views came from my feed ? The next few Videos reverted to the usual pattern of getting no impressions & no views. Since around October last year (2023) the highest number of views I've received for a video on this particular channel (with the exception of the promoted one) is 136, with most receiving less than 30 views and a lot less impressions. I reposted a couple of these videos on another of my channels (off Niche) and they got over 4k views I post an average of 4 videos per week.
I have 120 subs now after 2 months of uploading videos.... very happy....just keep on uploading videos cuz you'll never gonna know.... algorithm please be nice to us 🙏🙏🙏
Your videos is very good but why your subscribers is low ? I hope so you soon can reach 1000 subscribers soon and monetized channel 🙏🙏🙏 goodluck and also I subbed you don't give up
Overnight, my video views plummeted from 5k to less than 10. The statistics show that these many views originated from other countries. My videos are in German, and my target audience is also German. I have no idea what prompted the algorithm to distribute my videos elsewhere.
the content ur making photopgraphy that is good, but when I see ur thumbnails for that peoples are interested in 3rd countries, I hope u understand, and u can't do anything about this, so enjoy the views.
Idk either. I set my Channel to czech language, origin in czech. I made czech video with czech name And czech description i also paid propagation for czech audience only ... And 99% of viewers were not czechs...
I've gotten 15k subscribers in the past couple months and everything you've said basically confirms a lot of stuff I've already specialized. Your videos have helped out my understanding of the algorithm so much more which led to the beginning of all my success, thank you!
The biggest issue I have been running into lately, is that for whatever reason OHTER videos that are suggesting MY videos are super unrelated to my content. I haven't changed anything as far as uploads, tags, descriptions ect. I'm confused on why this has been happening. It's killing my videos.
After 2 years of making videos, I finally got a bona fide viral/outlier video. The seed of it was the subject, then the quality of filming, along with title and thumbnail. I'm still amazed that after 3 weeks since publish, I'm still getting 300-500 views per hour. This has been a long time coming and I certainly am grateful for the journey...difficult as it is!
Started creating yt video since 2022, my subscribers is only 105 for more than 2 years. But this September 2024 started viewing your videos and learned some useful ideas. In less than 2 weeks this September, my subscribers grows to 185 with 7k views. Thank you.
I'm sorry but these things have too many variables. Luck does help. in a big way You'd have to the Sherlock Holmes of statistics to be able to control all the variables and beat the algorithm. Best we can do is try to make our content engaging and do the thumbnail, description and tags thing in a good way.
How many videos did you release in 2 days? My first video had 0 views for a month (it was a trial) so if you only had 1 video, how the heck you got subscribers already? Or maybe you're doing shorts?
@@izzyrov5814 I started with just 1 video and after 2 days I uploaded a short. Those are my numbers by now. For animation content which is really hard to do (takes weeks to make a video) is not good news, but I guess time will tell if it was worth it or not
Thanks this is what I aspire and hope although monetized I don't think income is enough to sustain as only source of income but I am doing what inspires me so money is secondary
You can do whatever you want. Some people get millions of views per video when they also post every day. The videos are not spectacular at all. Very monotone. Just a guy sitting on a chair while talking. Others get only a few hundred thousand views or even just tens of thousands of views for 1 video per week or even per month and they are funny comedy sketches.
I still wanna know why all the experts say TH-cam doesn’t take taxes off of ad revenue? I’ve heard you say it too Rob, yet my first TH-cam payment (for other channel) had $800 taken off for taxes. Did I fill something out wrong if this is happening? Would be good to get a reply from an “expert”, I’ve been asking them all but they NEVER actually reply or help
seems like you didn't get reply here either. Seems like they don't follow video advide to engage in community, so perhaps they don't believe in it so much
@@joli9127 yeah none of the “experts” are actually interested in helping people, especially the bigger ones, they’re just after the watch time for themselves
Thank you for this information. Your channel is so valuable to me. I've been working to target my audience and I started doing polls which is something I learned from you guys and it seems to be helping it grow, too. I just passed a thousand subscribers, but I don't have my viewing hours yet. I'm almost there. My videos are so short at the moment that it takes a while to build up the viewing hours. I'm hoping to be able to get equipment that will let me make longer videos soon. Thank you for making your videos! 😀
@@Bizz_sparkler I think it would depend on your target audience. I would like to make longer content because it helps my viewing time go up faster. I have one video that is about an hour and a half long and people watch it and it really helps me a lot. On the flip side, some audiences prefer shorter content because they don't have to spend as much time watching one thing. Lol! I think it really depends on your subject matter and the audience it's aimed at. 🤷♀️
All of this can be effective for content creators but not for musicians. We have to look for the listener and viewer in a completely different way. And it's not about the quality of the product, but about building your fan base, social media, performing in front of an audience, etc.
I followed the tips for all these videos and still nothing. I even deleted 3 of my videos (that had zero views after 1 week) to follow the steps in all the “how to” videos I watched. Still little movement. One of my videos has 2 views…from my bestie and my husband. I think my content is interesting (true scary horror stories within real estate). Seriously, none of these tactics has worked.
YT is very hard, I started my channel a couple of months ago and still struggling getting new subscribers. Very frustrating to work more than 10 hours , edit, finish, upload, go to bed and get 3 views and 0 subs 😪Ouchh!....Regardless, still keep it up consistent, learning every video and enjoy the process 😎😎
Don’t stress yourself out, You will get there, Definitely try creating Quality Videos, But don’t let everybody tell you what to do, Post what you feel is right and what you may think will gain viewers. Me personally, I listened to all this advice and stressed my self out. Yesterday. I used to be worried about High Quality Descriptions, What Hashtags to use, This and That, Because I was making a consistent 1K-3K Viewers, and as soon as I started to adjust stuff like Tags and Hashtags, My view’s literally started going down. My videos aren’t the best when its down to Quality, but they were getting somewhere. So figure out whats right for you, Me personally I do not use Tags, Keywords, Hashtags, My vids that have the most views don’t even have descriptions. Now if you are branding, Its right to keep a well made description, but for my channel, It doesn’t matter, may not be for yours. So basically figure out what’s right for you, font stress yourself out like I did!
Try 40 hours and a 1% click through rate… and then knowing the impressions flatline-from-hell death sentence is your next step. It’s not easy for sure, and the latest shift towards a-winner-take-all approach from TH-cam isn’t helping.
Thank you for the knowledge and because of you i have uploaded my first video hope i will get subscribers and views and also more knowledge to do the 2nd, the 3rd and more videos
Thanks! I'm gonna apply these tips to my channel. I just started uploading high quality 4K motor rides and believe I've everything settled to grow big at a certain moment! 🚀
Rob, I try to listen to my audience about making better videos. But because I am an Aspie (people affected with the Syndrome of Asperger), my brain works so slow. I don't always understand what they want. My main topic or niche is Grondines. All the videos you see on my channel are part of this niche or topic. My brain doesn't function adequately. Sorry, people if I can't always respond to your demands. Do you understand why, Rob?
You have to combine secrets 1 and 2 together for this to work. What good is returning viewers when there is no engagement from those returning viewers? What did the viewer like about your video? Those questions, if not asked, make returning viewers worthless. The feedback loop is important here so that you are making content that will be predicated to that user. YOU NEED COMMENTS. That's the data you will making decisions on secrets 1 and 2.
I made it to the first major milestone of 1K subscribers and 4K hours. 50% of my viewers are coming from the homepage and suggested videos, and another 30% are returning viewers for the playlist. So I think the algorithm is working for me in my specific niche audience. But I think the key for my returning viewers is that I have bingeable content, episodic content, so that they'll come back to see the latest episode. Or they'll find my channel at the latest video installment and jump back to watch them all from the beginning. But something I don't have is direct competition, another content creator posting the same type of videos and topics that I'm posting. Something I've heard frequently from my audience is that they love the uniqueness of what I've been doing. There's nothing else like this on TH-cam, they say. But yet for a variety of different reasons, they want it, and so did I that I started making it.
The views are too inconsistent… with gaming videos I’ll post everyday and randomly will accumulate views. Some 400/500 and others 5000/10,000 but then it stops. Only way to catch the algorithm is to have ACTIVE Subscribers.
I show snacks and food, for me I can confirm that products that are known already get so much more views than videos where the brand isnt known, my Kinder Schokolade taste testing video always get good views but my restaurant/festival/outside taste testing videos where people do not know what to expect do not work this good. Thank you for all your Ideas and good luck to everyone with their channel growth!
As a TH-camr, I make shorts. Not long-term videos, I feel like the advice, I try to find is only for long-term videos. I am a dragon puppeteer, who films with a phone. Any tips on how to blow up, as a shorts creator?
I am getting NO impressions on my videos for my new channel. I mean, literally ZERO. TH-cam shows my videos to NO ONE. I don't see this issue being addressed by ANYONE offering advice on how to grow a channel. The only way I got a view on my video was to search for my channel via my other email's TH-cam, subscribed to my own channel and watched my own video. But when I uploaded another video, my other email did not get a notice that a new video had been uploaded So, even if someone that I give the video to does subscribe they would not get a notice and the video would not show in their TH-cam feed. I am fully verified, even uploaded ID. This channel is attached to an email that has existed for years, so it is not a new email.
Make more long format videos and don't post every day, give them 2-3 days in between. After around 20 videos your channel should raise, at least that what I experienced. You have +1 sub from me and I'm watching some of your videos now :)
@@EmmasNatureEscapes thank you very much for your input and suggestions. Perfect timing,; I was about to post another video this is under 10 minutes. I'll add more content and space out the timing.

Yea no I don't really believe you guys anymore as I am currently getting no views no matter what I do, the views while starting to grow fastly, abruptly stops at 5 and then I get hit with the famous image of the dog unplugging an electric wire whenever I try to go in my analytics to see what's wrong or even to upload! So I posted my problem to TH-cam themselves on X and they said that they are looking into it so basically saying that there is indeed a problem with either my account or something else, NOT my videos!!
This video is great. My channel is almost 2 months old now. And before I knew what I was doing, I made home videos, I didn't dispute copyrights; instead I used replacement music (which is so bad I can't even tell you) rather than dispute a copyright - which is what I am doing now. Deleting and reuploading all my videos and disputing the copyright as fair use. And I am winning 90% of the disputes. Man I wish I knew that when I first uploaded them - 303 videos up now. 200 still with background music replaced. Now I'm deleting and reuploading and keeping the original music and I am seeing slowly but surely an improvement. I have the radio on a lot in the background of my home videos, that's the problem. And if I knew how easy a copyright release is to get, I would have saved myself a month of work. Yes get feedback; even your own. The TH-cam replacement music suddenly popping on (you can't hear the talking anymore by the way) was so jarring it really stunned me into thinking of something. I was bold and did my first dispute, lost. Changed what I wrote, won every single one after that. Still have like 200 videos to replace this way. But don't hesitate to dispute all copyright claims. They will release them if what you say is right, for example, the music is incidental and I believe therefore fair use. And that was the trick. Never talk about trying to earn money. They know it. But, still, don't put that in your fair use letter. Just a tip. Thanks again for this awesome SHORT and INFORMATIVE (LOVE THOSE 2 THINGS) vid!!!
Im not sure how correct this can be with my own experience,. My first video is still my best performing one and hit 18k views after 4 days, now at around 27.5k, so no returning viewers from the initial release of it. So i'd assume that returning viewers plays a role, but there must be much bigger things that gets the algorithm giving you impressions.
When you switched from search focused to browse and suggested videos, are you seeing a shorter lifespan for the videos? We're also trying to switch from search based to suggested/browse and see a much shorter lifespan for these videos. With search, we'd see 12-18 month lifespan and 2 months (if we're lucky) for browse/suggested.
I started my woodworking channel around 4 months ago and only have 20 subs. I wondering if it's just because I film myself making things I want to make, rather than things which are popular? I'm hoping if I keep going the subs will slowly increase with each video and in time view numbers will steadily grow? Will this slow and steady approach work in time?
Chicken and the egg thing unfortunately. Tough to get audience info! Too few views, no audience info in analytics . . . Need that audience info to make relevant content to get more views . . . Too few subscribers, smaller and not statistically relevant info from a Community Tab audience poll. Adding to that the dreaded part where your subject area crosses over 2-3 "categories" and TH-cam does not get how to place your videos . . . The struggle is real! 😎 Great video! Cheers!
The algorithm isn’t there for creators. It’s there for consumers and the platform. Keep that in mind as a creator.

I've had channels blow up in the past but just because I jumped on trends, but the moments those trends died, so did my channel. It's all about how to be relevant for 10 days kinda tips. It's stupid
@vidiq what yo thoughts ?
Community feedback only works if you already have an audience 😂

Exactly
I totally agree. I have a very small and I do mean small audience. Been doing TH-cam for 3 years now
That's what I was thinking, I feel like a lot of so called 'tips' on how to grow are based off pre-existing stats that new channels do not have at all.
I grew my channel pretty quickly using this technique. I also use shorts for growth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

@@dgtechdailyvlogs tags matter bro, for small channels every matters.
@@dgtechdailyvlogsso you stopped and your channel started sinking?
Interesting, what's your plan to try and solve?
Lol
Never watch anything on the channel you create on except niche your creating
Same thing happened to me
The algorithm continuous to consistently baffle me on just about everything on TH-cam. Makes no sense. 100% random.
Your channel helped him to get monetization in a year as well as to reach the first million views, the effort you put into each video is unmatched!!!
Thank you !!!

Thank you for watching!
It's a very simple equation that even I can work out:
If viewers don't get an option to view, then the video will get No Views !
I reposted a couple of these videos on another of my channels (off Niche) and they got over 4k views
I post an average of 4 videos per week.

After 2 years of making videos, I finally got a bona fide viral/outlier video. The seed of it was the subject, then the quality of filming, along with title and thumbnail.

Thank you for this information. Your channel is so valuable to me. I've been working to target my audience and I started doing polls which is something I learned from you guys and it seems to be helping it grow, too.

I’m still new, my videos (shorts) all get stuck at 400-500 views? why? 😢 If you had the same problem, did it ever get any better? Maybe I should wait…
Same with me 😢

Your recent videos is great, I don’t know why you’re not getting the views expected.
Lmfao 🫵🏻😆 I Live in this realm/Lane and has been for years 🫣🤪. Least I can always look back and say “hey look what I made” 👍🏼😅
Try 40 hours and a 1% click through rate… and then knowing the impressions flatline-from-hell death sentence is your next step. It’s not easy for sure, and the latest shift towards a-winner-take-all approach from TH-cam isn’t helping.

Small channels lets join our forces. Unity is power💪💪

I realized that some of my videos got restricted for some reason and I don’t know why

213 subs in under 2 months. Not too shabby I think.
Just started my youtube journey. Your videos helped me so much in getting started!
I started my woodworking channel around 4 months ago and only have 20 subs. I wondering if it's just because I film myself making things I want to make, rather than things which are popular? Chicken and the egg thing unfortunately. Tough to get audience info! Too few views, no audience info in analytics . . . Need that audience info to make relevant content to get more views . . . Too few subscribers, smaller and not statistically relevant info from a Community Tab audience poll. Adding to that the dreaded part where your subject area crosses over 2-3 "categories" and TH-cam does not get how to place your videos . . . The struggle is real! 😎 Great video! Cheers!
