With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Toronto Blue Jays have already declared that they will be trading their key players, and one name on the market is pitcher Kevin Gausman.
Even if the Blue Jays hold on to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette, there are still some interesting pieces on their roster that could catch the Dodgers' attention, and Gausman is at the top of that list.
Gausman, a two-time All-Star, recently had a rough outing against the New York Yankees, allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. One concerning point is the drop in his fastball value, which plummeted from 17.6 last year to -5.0 this season. He’s been using that fastball 52.6% of the time, so for him to be effective, that pitch needs to work better.
But let’s remember, from 2021 to 2023, the only pitcher with a higher fWAR than Gausman's 15.8 was Zack Wheeler. Before this season started, the five-year, $110 million contract he signed in 2022 seemed like a great deal.
With the Blue Jays set to put him on the market, the Dodgers have shown interest in trying to regain Gausman’s fastball efficiency, seeing him as a potential ace signed through 2026.
Given our current uncertain pitching rotation with health concerns and others still on the injured list, adding Gausman could be a strategic move.
Imagine if the Dodgers trade for Gausman and end up with a surplus of pitchers once our guys get healthy? It could happen, but it’s a better situation than our current one, where we don’t know who will be ready to take the mound behind Glasnow in a postseason series, assuming he stays healthy.
So, fans, what do you think about this potential trade? Is Kevin Gausman the reinforcement we need to ensure an elite rotation? Leave your opinion in the comments! Why trade for a pitcher that's having problems?

I think he would be an asset to the team. We need that extra boost in the pitching area. I think our lineup is pretty good. I just need Mookie back then it becomes 100%.
