She calls it like a news reporter on your 6 o clock news
literally everyone on apple tv is fucking garbate
Literally? Weird.
the few games ive seen, the best parts were when they all just shut up and let the game feed run
You meant trash?
I dont get to watch many Apple TV games but the one I did was an Angels game that honestly they did a really great job. I actually laughed at jokes they said and they left a good amount of air time to just hear the crowd. Could've gotten lucky according to these replies
@@jmiogo yes. literally.
I wouldn’t say people hate her. For me personally I don’t dislike her personally. She may be a very nice human being irl, but in terms of being a play by play, she’s not good, at all. She doesn’t know what a ground rule double is. She doesn’t know the outfield positions. These are very simple baseball things that she doesn’t know. That’s a problem. It’s not me saying female announcers suck in general. I personally think Doris Burke is a very good broadcaster. But the A’s announcer specifically is just not fit for the job. U gotta know the sport to announce it and it doesn’t seem like she does. Plus, it’s also a bit dumb to say people dislike her bc she’s a woman. I’m sure some people do, but I think the majority of people just don’t like the way she broadcasts. It’s the same thing with Joe Buck. Tons of people hate on that man bc he often times makes very unenthusiastic calls in very big games and seems to show clear bias on nationally televised games. So clearly it’s not just bc she’s a woman. Granted Ik some people say she sucks simply bc of her gender, I’ve seen comments even say women shouldn’t be broadcasting at all which I think is stupid. However the majority of people seem to dislike her simply bc she’s just not good at her job. That’s my take
I HATE her so stop talking about what most men feel. Oh. I see. You're a simp.
Nope we hate her. She’s terrible at her job and the bar she sets for female commentators is low.
Exactly
Wrong!!! ITS BECAUSE SHES A WOMEN AND DON’T BELONG ON THE MIC IN MENS PRO SPORTS PERIOD
I agree with your comment.
This is what happens when you unrightfully fire your iconic commentator
What? The A’s make a ridiculous decision just to save a few bucks? They’d never
He said the N-word on live television
@@rashiroselin ON ACCIDENT, that what I hate about the generation, man makes one mistake and all of a sudden, he loses his job that he had for decades. Even Dallas didn’t notice when he said it, which really tells you that it was an accident. So quick to judge people just for something like this
@@rp3569lol people shouldn't be saying that on accident. That implies they probably say it at least somewhat regularly
@nandy9285 lol not realizing you said something means you are used to saying something
Nailed it. She’s absolutely the worst pbp announcer in the majors. And it’s not even close.
Like listening to a frightened squirrel.
Todd Kalas and whoever announces games for Cleveland are both both screamers.
matt underwood
Cleveland radio - Tom Hamilton
@@miserablecardinalsfan Underwood's not a screamer. Tom Hamilton is.
Sounds like Bart Simpson 😂
Or Ash Ketchum
Holy crap, she does!
I have no idea how people listen to this. It’s nails on chalkboard for me.
Nails on a chalkboard is music to the ears compared to this girl.
She should be working the register at a Target.
same
@@johnnyboy55 nah she's not even good enough for that role. her voice should be used as the alarm system for target when someone steals.
Yeah, my friend hates when anyone with an italian, southern, NY, or Irish accent calls a game. Oh, or if they are obviously gay or black. You guys can probably relate.
@@jmaggio909 Look here junior, what you’re doing, it's no way to be living. Your mother is distraught . it's f**king terrible. You’re a good kid but you gotta figure your life out… 🙏🇮🇹
and boom goes the dynamite.
She's got 90s shock jock voice.
Not so much “hated”, more like “cringe”!
There can be good female play by play commentators, but let's let it happen on merit, not make it happen because "it's historic." People like Jenny actually do a disservice to other actually qualified women out there.
They are no qualified women for the role
people dont want female play by play commentators though. that's the thing. no matter how good or bad.
I was just thinking about this the other day. If you actually watch A’s games you will understand how horrible of an announce she is. It’s almost like she has no idea if a ball is going out or not on any home run. It’s the least hyped I’ve ever seen a play by play announcer.
I totally agree. It sounds like we’re watching college softball game.
TH-cam comments are too nice, Instagram is more honest
There is no good school of broadcasting any longer. The past two generations of broadcasters all seem intent on a) sounding alike; and, b) putting the audience to sleep. It's the Thom Brennaman effect. Brennaman would have made Bobby Thomson's home run sound like a pop up on the infield. Joe Buck was little better. I was fortunate to grow up in Chicago listening to Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray and Ken Harrelson. Never again will we hear broadcasters like that.
Hawk was awful
Harry Caray was terrible. Like having Biden in the booth.
Harrelson was THE worst!
I don't think it's Jenny Cavnar's fault for the false enthusiasm. Let's be honest: We're talking about the Oakland A's. Is there *anything* to be enthusiastic about currently in Oakland?
Their closer. That’s about it. He probably won’t be on the team for much longer though.
i mean they're only like 6 games back, just comin off a 5-run 11th inning to walk it off. definitely exceeding expectations
Hated is such a funny word to use but I guess when you prioritize clicks that's what happens.
So you're one of those emotionally fragile people he warned us about at the beginning of the video.

The astros gave julia morales a go a few games ago and she did great calling homeruns.
She’ll get better with time but I agree she seems like she’s too focused on getting phrases over then just being natural.
She needs to take notes from Joe Davis
yea she’ll be fine, give her a season to figure it out ppl just pile on her because they hate women for some reason
I saw a few comments on social media mentioning that America used to be a real country, so I’m sure they would beat their wife (if they have one) if the dinner was warm instead of piping hot
@@FireForce2513
Joe Davis. The legend in his own mind. Ruins every game he calls.
@johnnyboy55 bro what are you talking about, he makes the game way better
She’s been commentating or reporting for YEARS. There’s no getting better brother.
It's weird because if she was commentating on cricket in the UK or Australia with that tone of voice she'd be perfect. Different country. Different sport.
Be honest with yourself commenters, even if she never made any mistakes, you’d still hate her.
she seriously lacks enthusiasm and passion for calling baseball games. lady, get excited, get pumped up when your team hits a moonshot or scores a go-ahead run. this isn’t the channel 3 news with the weather
Female announcers and female politicians face the same problem when public speaking: when some speak loudly with excitement it can sound like they are shrieking. I presume that she’s purposely trying to dial it back a little to avoid this. I think it’s ok to say female and male voices are unique, and in certain situations one may sound better than the other.
It feels like watching college softball
She literally sounds like ASH KETCHUM though.
omg I was trying to place the voice and bart simpson (who is voiced by a woman) came to mind but this may be better
Everyone is going on about rooker home run but there are heaps of bad commentators saying cringe stuff just look at everything John Sterling called ..... yuck anyway the lady isn't even bad
She’s ok. I respect that she doesn’t express fake enthusiasm when there’s a home run.
So you don’t get hyped for a HR? Are pop ups more exciting for you like she thinks?
@@MurdaVilleRP-gu7pc I get excited, of course…some are more impressive or game changing than others, though. Depends on the context. What I meant with the enthusiasm is that she’s not going overboard
I can’t find a TH-cam video of the announcer that said “his favorite color is green trees”
I hope they give her a chance to improve, and I hope she improves. I hope she improves enough that she can look back at these calls and laugh at them after a few years.
The thing is Jenny has called games before and she's won awards for his commentating. That's what makes it weirder.
It's Oakland. How could anyone be enthusiastic?
Her calls are bizzare, and sounds like she hasnt ever heard any other announcer. Its not like she cares. You can tell she doesnt care.
She's scared to call it wrong. She can't see when it's a no-doubter.
I would put her along side Beth Mowins who announces NFL and college football. She has the most grating voice I have ever heard.
The Bucs have Hannah Mears as a sideline reporter....
“I’m not making any _broad_ claims about her . . .” :D
Some of those calls were a bit clunky or wordy but I've heard worse. By men. I agree that listening to woman as announcers in sports takes some getting used to (it still doesn't sound right to me) but she wasn't as bad as I expected to hear when I clicked on the video.
I don’t get what the issues are?
You're making a statement, not asking a question. Correct your punctuation.
@@cfgjrbruh shut up
@@cfgjr How about no.
@cfgjr I do not want you talking. Look at your name.
It’s just her voice is kinda like a scratching chalkboard
What I hear is someone who's going through the motions and doesn't seem mentally vested in the team they're covering. There's no passion in her voice, and it doesn't feel like she actually cares.
I love your videos so much keep up the good work man
DEI...nuff said.
Baltimore tried one just as bad, last yr and earlier this year. Melanie Newman. Started with radio and calls it like a TV game. She is horrible, when listening you have no idea whats happening til its over and they explain what just happened. They even tried her on TV games just as bad. They must have given up on her cuz i haven't seen or heard her doing play by play in weeks.
Huh, this video isn't about John Schriffen. 🤔
I should probably abstain. As a Dodger fan we have the talented Joe Davis and for most of my life I listened to some guy named Vin Scully. Standards in broadcasting are a tad high here so I couldn't be fair to her. LOL
It’s not a glass ceiling when we live in a society that demands and produces equity at the cost of quality of competency. Also, let’s not forget that she is one of many examples. For example, former “disgraced” mayor Megan Barry was the first female mayor of Nashville. She also stepped down due to misappropriation of funds and an affair (all-related).
In something as dumb as baseball--which I love--why is competancy more important than equity. I think equity should dominate on all jobs that basically don't matter. Now, surgeon or midwife.... equity should not be a large factor there. But, literally, as much as we love baseball, how good or bad or qualified or equity-based the announcer is MEAN NOTHING IMPORTANT TO WORLD AT ALL. "Oh my God, the Gaza got a ton worse because MLB hired a woman who doesn't sound like an bumbling Taylor Shift fan when he calls a home run." Poor us.
@@jmaggio909 spoken like a true ignoramus.
Baseball is entertainment. It brings value to living. Helps make life worth while. We don’t need it to survive, only to thrive. The same with virtually and sport or art.
In that sense, we do need it. And when it comes to being the best of the best (MLB), we should expect it in every aspect. That includes the commentary.
So yeah. I disagree wholeheartedly. Competency over equity.
Also, the principle of equity is flawed. As a concept. Equality of opportunity is one thing. Equality of outcome is ridiculous down to its very core.
So yeah. Competency and qualifications over diversity and inclusion. I stand my ground.
Oh and lastly baseball is not dumb. Just goes to show how un credentialed your argument truly is.
That last call wasn’t bad
“Hey Siri, it’s not your night” the nasally, lost broadcaster said
Born and Raised in Oakland been a A's fan my whole life
Always loved A's Broadcasters Radio and TV .Dallas Braden was a a great addition . All A's Broadcasters actually had some prior history as being apart of what is a A's fan
This woman has absolutely nothing to do with being a A's Fan
With all the crazyness and drama going on with the A's being a A's fan is Tough
But now if i ever want to watch away games through my mlbtv subscribtion i watch the other teams broadcast
NBC Sports California whoever was involved in the decision to put her on
I cant fathom there mind. terrible move. Just another reason to not be a A's fan as if there wasent enough already
All female play by play announcers are awful.
I love sexism too!!
Sexist take, I like Beth Mowins, and there's a few other ladies who are okay.
LoL I just heard about her....if she was Jackie Robinson.....we'd never have Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, let alone Barry Bonds....when you're the first....you need to be the BEST!
I literally avoid watching games that she is announcing for.
Hello, bombs away for Brent Rooker. Man he get a hold of one, he sends it a LoNg ways
Calls were a little off, but this is her first season. No egregious errors that I’ve heard so far. Neither have I heard that much complaints. Disliked? Maybe. Hate is too strong
She sounds like Stuart’s mom from MAD TV. Waoahhhh wooooaahh he tomahawked the bean over the big wizalllll
Hey siri is not your night!
Hate is such a strong word.
Right, we should use stronger
This is what passes for an intelligent rebuttal.
We need more Doris Burkes in the broadcasting field, for sure.
I watched her on Rockies broadcasts for years. She was mainly the post game announcer and was very good at that. She filled in as the play by play announcer a few times and she was not so good at it. She doesn’t seem natural calling the game. That said, it’s a tough job and there aren’t many really good game callers. So it’s a tough spot to be in for her.
She actually has a very likable personality, which comes through in her other role. Hopefully she can be more at ease and that can come through.
I remember her in Colorado. They are doing a fantastic job of making sure no one ever watches baseball again--and that's fine. I'll stay away and clean the pew-pew toys I lost in a boating accident.
Coming from the guy who ends every sentence like question 😂 she's a rook, knowing a home run from the sound of the bat is something that takes years, more experienced announcers get it wrong too. Sincerely hope the A's don't listen to the haters and give her a chance to settle
Wow Joe Buck looks really different
it's just the broadcast voice. It's so thick. Her voice runs grating. This isn't a problem unique to her, a lot of announcers I think sound really annoying because they're so focused on lowering their pitch, adding a tone, and sounding completely different than how they talk.
I’ve gone out of my way to watch a few A’s games with her on the call. She’s alright, not the worst I’ve seen but leaves a lot to be desired. One thing I did notice was that it felt like she was trying to call every game like it was a neutral broadcast, and that’s not a quality that I think a good individual-team broadcaster should have.
I agree with her lack of enthusiasm being the chief drawback. She's not invested in the game at all. Someone below captures it : She sounds like the news reader on the 6 o'clock news. If she covered golf in the 70's she might have referred to CHY-CHY Rod-rig-wezz!
Sounds like she is calling a college game.
I've noticed this watching women's hockey its that same tone and it drives me nuts lmao
I would listen to Jen Mueller (from Seattle Sports) call a game. I think she’d be great at it.
She sounds like she should be in a kids anime
She's not as bad as people think she is. After all, she is calling A's games. They're leaving town after this season.
Have you heard her? I unfortunately do still follow the A’s and am stuck listening to her on the televised away games. She’s not a good play by play announcer.
: I watched some of the games she's called on TH-cam. She's not bad, but definitely not good either. Jenny calls the games like a highlight reel. At least she's better than the new White Sox announcer who replaced Jason Benetti. He was best announcer the Sox had in a long time. Now we got clueless John Schriffin. He didn't even know some of the players names or their positions until a week after spring training. It's bad enough the White Sox are horrible, but we're stuck watching and listening to clueless Schriffin. He tries to act like he knows the team, but he's just clueless and embarrassing.
Omg. Her voice, tempo and guessing on these calls. Absolutely awful.
Obviously a political move. What do you expect out of California?
1:57 "...and it doesn't seem like she has very much investment in the team she's calling for"
Kind of like both the owner and the city of Oakland! 😁
Off the scoreboard.. going to have a chance lol
This video is odd. Her voice and tone seem fine for announcing mlb games to me.
Nah,, she sounds more like an overnight sportscenter re-run, B-teamer 😅🍻
Her voice is HORRIBLE.
Are you a chipmunk?
How is she the first though? Like there’s been plenty of other female announcers that I’ve heard over the past few years. Mendoza has been doing the ESPN games for years, the Cubs have a female announcer for the past 2 years. I’m sure a few other teams have had one that I just haven’t heard about
To me, what it sounds like is that she isn’t paying attention until something happens, and then sounds surprised or caught off guard when it does. I’m not saying this is what actually happens, I’m just saying it sounds like that.
that fake newscaster voice is brutal
The only ones that aren't great are the Rooker one and the Bleday one. Honestly, she's not bad. Probably some first year jitters and knows that people are making stupid videos about her online
lol... apple MLB announcers are around this level of cringe.
Joe Buck in the 2000s is better because at least he knows the sport very well.
I will never never never never NEVER listen to a female announcer. NEVER!
She's a DEI hire. Terrible announcer
Allegedly, Jenny is Angel Hernandez's love child 💀
Why do so many female announcers sound like they are doing a lame impersonation of Marv Albert?
"this one has a chance!"
Her co announcer looks like a muppet. And he rambles at times about the dumbest crap.
But he threw a perfect game, and you don't even play..........
@@michaelsmith-bn6no I am a legend in my own mind. 😄
"You can put it on the booooooaaaaarrrrrdddddddd...........YYYYYEEEESSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!! Hire the HAWK............

She will always be welcome back in Denver
please, feel free
As a lifetime A's fan, I love her, but we also need more next stop pound towns
Jenny is truly a horrible play by play announcer; almost as bad as Melanie Newman of the Orioles. I don't understand how MLB teams can do this to their fans!
What do you expect when you hire people for political reasons instead of being the most qualified?
Yeah, like when the NFL hired Dennis Miller and Rush Limbaugh.
Part of me thinks the As did this internationally to tank ratings and then turn around and use poor ratings as another reason for moving the team
She sounds better than most casters I hear. No one beats the padres tho
Those calls you referenced really weren't that bad. Melanie Newman has had some doozies that were much worse in my opinion.
I Like Jenny. she's great, but, for being the *PRIMARY* pbp person for the club this year it feels like Chris has called more games than Jenny has.
i dont see the problem with her. It could be better? Sure! Is it bad? No! Is it just okay? Yes, just like joe buck .
The problem is they have a second play by play announcer who is lightyears better, Chris Caray. Also his first year with the A's.
I don’t like her either 🙂↔️
As a whole, I feel that all baseball announcers are much worse than they used to be. Either on the radio or TV they all seem flat, and almost like they are reading a teleprompter, instead of watching a ballgame.
They are vanilla shills for the team. They won't offer criticism because they are concerned with job security.
Hate is a needlessly strong word here and kind of invites some of the negative discussion you seemingly don't want people to get into.
She's doing something that hasn't really been done outside of spot filling. I think she still has room to grow and get better, if Joe Buck of all people can get better at his job (look hate him all you want he had some damn good calls last year in the NFL) someone new to it can too. The A's are a shitshow org and she had big shoes to fill even without the glass ceiling stuff anyway and the team is hard to be excited about barring 9th inning relief appearances by Mason Miller and homers by Brent Rooker anymore.
Also as an aside apparently Julia Morales did some fill-in for Astros play by play against the A's (technically making it the first game called by women both for the home and away team) and she has a pretty great home run call.
There is never going to be a female version of Al Michaels or Dick Enberg or any other great announcer you can think of. There's a reason why this field is dominated by men.
