They thought bringing in a female announcer would give them liberal brownie points nut the people online bitching everything is offensive aren't the people watching games. That's why the Indians were more popular and sold more tickets than the Guardians. Not onlywas she just hired because she's a woman, she's also terrible at her job, doesn't know enough, has a horrible voice and does terrible calls. An A’s fan since Monte Moore. A slug in the gut to all A’s faithful. I now have to access the visiting teams feed on MLB TV which means I miss out on Dallas Braden whom I really like. Whoever hired her to do play by play should be dumped just like Kuip was.
I’ve gone out of my way to watch a few A’s games with her on the call. She’s alright, not the worst I’ve seen but leaves a lot to be desired. One thing I did notice was that it felt like she was trying to call every game like it was a neutral broadcast, and that’s not a quality that I think a good individual-team broadcaster should have.
Calls were a little off, but this is her first season. No egregious errors that I’ve heard so far. Neither have I heard that much complaints. Disliked? Maybe. Hate is too strong
I'm blessed to have Gary Cohen for the pbp announcer. Such a soothing voice, and the information he delivers flows. Ron and Keith being in the booth with him makes a great trio. I end up listening to the radio broadcast whenever the games are on appletv or ESPN cause the disattachment the announcers have to the ball clubs gives a different viewers experience. With this being said, I agree with what is stated in the outro of this video.
As a longtime Rockies fan, I could have warned you about this. She got her start with us as a sideline reporter and I never liked her doing that. The few times she was put in the booth I couldn’t take it, I had to put the tv on mute. It made me appreciate our regular PbP guys a lot more. Everything sounds so forced with her, she’s always a second behind the play and when she tries to act excited her voice just gets comedically high pitched. It’s a shame on two fronts: 1) Kuiper was a great announcer and part of a Bay Area family that has owned baseball PbP in that area, and I think he was treated unfairly because it seemed like a genuine mistake; 2) There were WAY more qualified woman announcers who deserved that honor, Jenny had zero experience short of filling in the booth a handful of times for our Rockies games. Also worth noting: I’m not certain she was the best pick to hire as a sideline reporter for the Rockies in the first place. It seemed to me that there was some twisted nepotism going on. Her father is the baseball coach for Regis HS in Denver, a private school with a VERY competitive baseball program. Kyle Freeland graduated from there. As the head coach for one of the best high school programs in Denver, her father had a close relationship with the Rockies front office, it’s easy to assume he helped her get her foot in the door after she graduated Colorado State with no real experience, and a voice clearly not made for sports. Nothing sounds natural coming from her, it all sounds like really bad acting. Poor A’s fans, as if they didn’t have enough issues as it was. If they just had better owners and a more graceful city council, they could have built a new stadium and not have to move to Vegas. With all the money in the Bay Area, it’s a shame cheapness caused them to leave town. They had a lot of great history there. 🫤
@@jmaggio909 You mean when Rush dared to criticize a black man (Donovan McNabb) for not being as good as the sports media said he was? Rush got fired for being honest. Stupid take.
What I hear is someone who's going through the motions and doesn't seem mentally vested in the team they're covering. There's no passion in her voice, and it doesn't feel like she actually cares.
I’m all for women’s equality, but when it comes to play by play, I just can’t stand it. Especially when they change their voice thinking it enhances their delivery. She’s the worst.
Only the most successful team in the American League Western Division since 1968 that has bounced back from horrible seasons to make the playoffs more often than your sorry favorite team!
As a person who has listened to baseball games since the early 70's, the purpose of the announcer is to describe a picture so that I can imagine it. If I listened to this announcer I would have never got into baseball.
It's as simple as this: men have to listen to Karens with grating voices like this all day at work and most likely at home too. No man wants to watch a ball game and suffer through 3 hours of that same shrill voice. Even if she wasn't so awful at calling home runs, I would never in a million years listen to that voice for 9 innings
Who cares? Don’t make it a sexist thing. If she’s good, then it shouldn’t make a difference. Problem is she’s not good but that has nothing to do with her being a woman.

"It feels artificial like a performance" - Dude. Joe Buck called a quarter century of WS games with less enthusiasm than this lady ever could. She sounds perfectly fine.
Joe Buck is a disgrace, I understand the significance of the "we will see you tomorrow night" after the walk off call in the 2011 World Series, quoting his dad, but his tone and delivery was just so lame and lazy. He's horribly boring and unenthusiastic.
Using Joe Buck as a comparison doesn’t do her any favors lol. It doesn’t make her look any better. I personally have no opinions on her. Some of the calls in the video were a bit iffy, but every announcer has iffy calls. The problem I have seen some commenters bring up is the fact she doesn’t know much about the sport. Which would be a big turnoff. An announcer should know the game they are announcing.
My post was about him saying she sounded artificial. None of what your reply to me has anything to do with what I posted about. Joe Buck, being the poster child for artificial just a performance play calling, is the perfect person to compare her so called artificial play calling to.
An example of what announcing can be: stream Padres-Rockies August 4 - Padres announcing crew with Don Orsillo and Mud (Mark) Grant. They are a huge part of the entertainment. Note that I was born in Oakland 77 years ago and have been an As fan forever. I even know the son of the first A's GM. What a disaster Oakland has become.
Have you heard her? I unfortunately do still follow the A’s and am stuck listening to her on the televised away games. She’s not a good play by play announcer.
I watched some of the games she's called on TH-cam. She's not bad, but definitely not good either. Jenny calls games like a highlight reel. She's better than the new White Sox announcer who replaced Jason Benetti. He was the best the Sox had in a long time. Now we have a new guy in John Schriffin. He didn't bother to look up the team history. The White Sox are bad, but we have to listen to Schriffin. He calls games acting like a hip Gen Z kid, but he's just awful.
Wrong, she's not the first. Melanie Newman has been doing play by play for The Orioles for five years now. : "Melanie Newman enters her fifth season with the broadcast team. Newman will continue to appear on both television and radio in multiple of roles, such as play-by-play announcer, in-game reporter and pre- and post-game show host."
I watched her on Rockies broadcasts for years. She was mainly the post game announcer and was very good at that. She filled in as the play by play announcer a few times and she was not so good at it. She doesn’t seem natural calling the game. That said, it’s a tough job and there aren’t many really good game callers. So it’s a tough spot to be in for her. She actually has a very likable personality, which comes through in her other role. Hopefully she can be more at ease and that can come through.
Everyone is going on about rooker home run but there are heaps of bad commentators saying cringe stuff just look at everything John Sterling called ..... yuck anyway the lady isn't even bad
John Sterling sucked but this woman sucks and only got hired because she's a woman, that's why people dislike her. Plus she's replacing someone who shouldn't've even gotten fired in the first place.
To me, what it sounds like is that she isn’t paying attention until something happens, and then sounds surprised or caught off guard when it does. I’m not saying this is what actually happens, I’m just saying it sounds like that.
So thankful we have Tom McCarthy here in Philly 😂😂😂 Jesus christ. I saw a video where she messed up right and left field, and she didn’t know it was a walk off HR, she casually said it was a “4 base hit” so casually😂
It sounds like when they hit the long ball she is waiting to see if the outfielder is going to turn around to watch it go over the wall before she says it’s a home run despite the ball headed towards the upper deck. Her voice makes her sound confused. I hope she improves by watching some of VIN Scully replays.

So yeah. I disagree wholeheartedly. Competency over equity.
Also, the principle of equity is flawed. As a concept. Equality of opportunity is one thing. Equality of outcome is ridiculous down to its very core.
So yeah. Competency and qualifications over diversity and inclusion. I stand my ground.
Oh and lastly baseball is not dumb. Just goes to show how un credentialed your argument truly is.
She’ll get better with time but I agree she seems like she’s too focused on getting phrases over then just being natural.
She needs to take notes from Joe Davis
yea she’ll be fine, give her a season to figure it out ppl just pile on her because they hate women for some reason
I saw a few comments on social media mentioning that America used to be a real country, so I’m sure they would beat their wife (if they have one) if the dinner was warm instead of piping hot
@@cookbook2513
Joe Davis. The legend in his own mind. Ruins every game he calls.
@johnnyboy55 bro what are you talking about, he makes the game way better
She’s been commentating or reporting for YEARS. There’s no getting better brother.
“Hey Siri it’s not your night.”- Famous last words
W Jose Siri
It's weird because if she was commentating on cricket in the UK or Australia with that tone of voice she'd be perfect. Different country. Different sport.
Sounds like someone who skipped the line. You need to practice at lower levels to perrfect your style.
As an old fan who has listened to hundreds of broadcasters, I just wish women would stop trying to emulate male play by play announcers. They should use their normal voice and develop their own style.
I remember her in Colorado. They are doing a fantastic job of making sure no one ever watches baseball again--and that's fine. I'll stay away and clean the pew-pew toys I lost in a boating accident.
she seriously lacks enthusiasm and passion for calling baseball games. lady, get excited, get pumped up when your team hits a moonshot or scores a go-ahead run. this isn’t the channel 3 news with the weather
Born and Raised in Oakland been a A's fan my whole life
Always loved A's Broadcasters Radio and TV .Dallas Braden was a a great addition . All A's Broadcasters actually had some prior history as being apart of what is a A's fan
This woman has absolutely nothing to do with being a A's Fan
With all the crazyness and drama going on with the A's being a A's fan is Tough
But now if i ever want to watch away games through my mlbtv subscribtion i watch the other teams broadcast
NBC Sports California whoever was involved in the decision to put her on
I cant fathom there mind. terrible move. Just another reason to not be a A's fan as if there wasent enough already
DEI hire and you can't hire a minority because shocker, people don't care about race in baseball. They got the Padres ex media woman instead of someone with actual experience calling games, or at least bring up a former player if you're gonna hire someone without experience.
00:47 “It is going……to have a chaaance..” -> Almost made it out of the stadium.

This is not a recording!! Wait... it must be a recording.
Some of those calls were a bit clunky or wordy but I've heard worse. By men. I agree that listening to woman as announcers in sports takes some getting used to (it still doesn't sound right to me) but she wasn't as bad as I expected to hear when I clicked on the video.
She’s ok. I respect that she doesn’t express fake enthusiasm when there’s a home run.
So you don’t get hyped for a HR? Are pop ups more exciting for you like she thinks?
@@Zackb1010 I get excited, of course…some are more impressive or game changing than others, though. Depends on the context. What I meant with the enthusiasm is that she’s not going overboard
DEI...nuff said.
I totally agree. It sounds like we’re watching college softball game.
Don’t disrespect college softball announcers like that lol. At least they know what’s going on!
Jenny Cavnar is her name. Next time put her name in the videos title or description. smh….
Omg. Her voice, tempo and guessing on these calls. Absolutely awful.
Obviously a political move. What do you expect out of California?
Golden State born and raised here and I agree. Keep women away from men's sports in general.
Calls were a little off, but this is her first season. No egregious errors that I’ve heard so far. Neither have I heard that much complaints. Disliked? Maybe. Hate is too strong
I would listen to Jen Mueller (from Seattle Sports) call a game. I think she’d be great at it.
The real issue is that sports is one of the very few areas left where men can be men. Most women hate that.
I don’t get what the issues are?
You're making a statement, not asking a question. Correct your punctuation.

It’s just her voice is kinda like a scratching chalkboard
I love your videos so much keep up the good work man
I'm blessed to have Gary Cohen for the pbp announcer.
She sounds like Stuart’s mom from MAD TV. Waoahhhh wooooaahh he tomahawked the bean over the big wizalllll
This video is odd. Her voice and tone seem fine for announcing mlb games to me.
Nah,, she sounds more like an overnight sportscenter re-run, B-teamer 😅🍻
Her voice is HORRIBLE.
Are you a chipmunk?
She literally sounds like ASH KETCHUM though.
omg I was trying to place the voice and bart simpson (who is voiced by a woman) came to mind but this may be better
What do you expect when you hire people for political reasons instead of being the most qualified?
Yeah, like when the NFL hired Dennis Miller and Rush Limbaugh.
@@jmaggio909 You mean when Rush dared to criticize a black man (Donovan McNabb) for not being as good as the sports media said he was? Rush got fired for being honest. Stupid take.
The A's are famous for that. They did make a good hire in Johnny Doskow--now there's a guy with tons of experience and he sounds good.
It's ridiculous
Hate is such a strong word.
Right, we should use stronger
This is what passes for an intelligent rebuttal.
I will never never never never NEVER listen to a female announcer. NEVER!
It’s like a video game where the announcer’s voice clips are pieced together.
What I hear is someone who's going through the motions and doesn't seem mentally vested in the team they're covering. There's no passion in her voice, and it doesn't feel like she actually cares.
I get the sense she lacks the natural but necessary talent of knowing when a ball is crushed at contact.
I’m all for women’s equality, but when it comes to play by play, I just can’t stand it. Especially when they change their voice thinking it enhances their delivery. She’s the worst.
I don't hate her as a person. I just think she's an absolutely horrible announcer.
It's Oakland. How could anyone be enthusiastic?
Exactly people don’t understand how bad Oakland actually is
Only the most successful team in the American League Western Division since 1968 that has bounced back from horrible seasons to make the playoffs more often than your sorry favorite team!
As a person who has listened to baseball games since the early 70's, the purpose of the announcer is to describe a picture so that I can imagine it. If I listened to this announcer I would have never got into baseball.
She's scared to call it wrong. She can't see when it's a no-doubter.
She's the Leah Hextall of the MLB
All female play by play announcers are awful.
I love sexism too!!
Sexist take, I like Beth Mowins, and there's a few other ladies who are okay.
Especially in a sport that is dominated by men.
At no point has any normal man ever said "You know what would make my hobby better? Listening to a walk talk over it"
Eh not all of them are bad. Some of them I enjoy hearing. You’re taking it a little too far now
I feel like she would be ok as a sidekick commentator, but not as the main announcer. She seems like a nice woman, but she sucks.
Sounds like she is calling a college game.
She calls a home run a 4 base hit, so yeah she’s not fit for that position.
Huh, this video isn't about John Schriffen. 🤔
I don’t know any man that wants to listen to any female announcer.
Bingo THANK YOU
LoL as opposed to A-FRAUD....
Who cares? Don’t make it a sexist thing. If she’s good, then it shouldn’t make a difference. Problem is she’s not good but that has nothing to do with her being a woman.
@@SlipKid1975 wrong! She being any female has zero business in men’s sports period Especially the locker room with that hypocritical nonsense. Btw there’s not one good women doing anything for pro sports. Unless you count the sexy women they use pregame. Let’s get the most qualified not the best looking. But that’s how hypocrisy works in America.
Part of MLB's DEI influence. Prepare for the future, when you'll see more and more of this.
Most people would say anyone else but Joe Buck should call the World Series
Using Joe Buck as a comparison doesn’t do her any favors lol. It doesn’t make her look any better.
I personally have no opinions on her. Some of the calls in the video were a bit iffy, but every announcer has iffy calls. The problem I have seen some commenters bring up is the fact she doesn’t know much about the sport. Which would be a big turnoff. An announcer should know the game they are announcing.
My post was about him saying she sounded artificial. None of what your reply to me has anything to do with what I posted about. Joe Buck, being the poster child for artificial just a performance play calling, is the perfect person to compare her so called artificial play calling to.
i dont see the problem with her. It could be better? Sure! Is it bad? No! Is it just okay? Yes, just like joe buck .
The problem is they have a second play by play announcer who is lightyears better, Chris Caray. Also his first year with the A's.
It’s not bad, it’s terrible
An example of what announcing can be: stream Padres-Rockies August 4 - Padres announcing crew with Don Orsillo and Mud (Mark) Grant. They are a huge part of the entertainment. Note that I was born in Oakland 77 years ago and have been an As fan forever. I even know the son of the first A's GM. What a disaster Oakland has become.
Tom Kinney and Bill Fagerbakke should do a baseball broadcast like they did the Super Bowl. Patrick Starr doing the Play by Play would be legendary!
She doesn't sound like she gets you into the game.
I think it's hard for anyone to fake excitement about the A's
The new White Sox PBP guy John Schriffen is pretty awful, and replaced popular PBP guy Jason Benetti.
Jason Benetti is liked by fangraphs nerds and those who hate John Smoltz.
She's not as bad as people think she is. After all, she is calling A's games. They're leaving town after this season
The A's may be leaving town but they will still be on TV right where they always been.
Wrong, she's not the first. Melanie Newman has been doing play by play for The Orioles for five years now. :
"Melanie Newman enters her fifth season with the broadcast team.
I'm sorry but Doris Burke's got this female beat

So thankful we have Tom McCarthy here in Philly 😂😂😂 Jesus christ. I saw a video where she messed up right and left field, and she didn’t know it was a walk off HR, she casually said it was a “4 base hit” so casually😂
It sounds like when they hit the long ball she is waiting to see if the outfielder is going to turn around to watch it go over the wall before she says it’s a home run despite the ball headed towards the upper deck. Her voice makes her sound confused. I hope she improves by watching some of VIN Scully replays.
