      This has actually happened a couple times since the perpetual calendar was invented in 1762.
      If the year is divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400, the leap year is skipped. This happened in 1800, 1900, skipped the year 2000 because it's divisible by 400, and it will happen again in 2100.

      That’s the interesting part on watches like these where regardless of how cool or accurate the movement, with or without a perpetual calendar, how the hell am I gonna actually know what time it is without having to memorize the exact positions of the hands. Feels like every glance at it would just be a rough estimate, though you’ll likely get the hang of it and get close to what the actual time is it’ll be tough to read, also tough to set.

    "Until 2100" is not a hard limit. It's just that the year 2100 is a special case - the leap year is skipped. (2100 is divisible by 4 and 100, but not 400). This means that looking at the "leap year dial" on the back will be incorrect during this year - as it's not actually a leap year. The watch will indeed continue to be useful beyond 2100.
    TL;DR: The watch will work in and beyond 2100, you'll just need to adjust the watch to skip February 29, because the leap year is skipped in 2100.

    The reason why a perpetual calendar can accurately tell time until 2100 is because 2100 is a technical leap year but won’t be counted as such meaning all perpetual calendar watches will be stuck thinking it’s a leap year but all you have to do is reset the leap year counter

    Crazy impressive, but how much harder would it really be to make it stay on calender forever? Its only missing 2 rules. Remove a leap day every hundred years and add it back in every 400. I'm sure having a mechancal mechanism to do that in something that small is tough, but idk. Maybe some engineer has ideas

  • @vitellonealvapore877
    @vitellonealvapore877 ปีที่แล้ว

    Obviously, it’s interesting, beautiful and an example of haute horlogerie but.. could you tell what the EXACT time is everytime and possibly at a glance?
    They’re not fun to set cause unless it runs at 0 secs/day forever (which is impossible), you’ll have to re-set it eventually.. once, twice and then you get bored, you begin to approximate (cause you can’t wait for :00 or :30 everyday just to set your watch.. unless you’re a psychopath) and the whole concept of it being capable of accurately telling year, date, day, femtosecond falls apart.
    It’s not easy to read as you need to make sure that you got the correct time almost everytime hence you’re probably going to cross check with the phone anyways.
    It doesn’t make sense to me to have all this info but “not being able” to even tell what time is it.. It surely is a piece of art but also a gimmicky 80k $ conversation starter watch.

  • @Emilmarch
    @Emilmarch ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope, I think it’s a failed watch. First of all, the dial looks like cheap Aliexpress watches, secondly there’s a learning curve which is not a good when it comes a timekeeper cause nobody spends time to check the time, day, date etc. let alone month and year added to be the chaos. Even power reserve is easier than figuring out the year and month. It may be high horological piece but IMHO it is a failed one and with the price tag 80K no way.

    There's something off about the concept for me, something about misaligned form over function. I get the "joke" but If I'm interested in so much precision and info I'd prefer the dial to reflect that, this is way to sterile imo. Amazing and beautiful nonetheless.

    WRONG. It doesn't have to be adjusted in 2100 because the movement could go back so it doesn't matter if 2100 is a leap year. There's also no year indicator.
