    • @mattlth
      @mattlth ปีที่แล้ว

      @@profound369 CIEM is a Custom In-Ear Monitor, meaning you have to have an audiologist make impressions of your ear canals, then you send those impressions to the manufacturer and they make custom earpieces that fit your ear canals perfectly. The downsides to CIEMs are that they only fit one person (you) and that they usually cost more because they have to be made one at a time. The IEM (aka UIEM) is a universal IEM that will fit any ear because they come with differently-sized ear tips (usually made of silicone or foam.) That allows the user to choose the size that fits their ear canal the closest, and there are aftermarket ear tips that allow even more fit options.

    • @rustyshakelford1466
      @rustyshakelford1466 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@profound369 CIEMs have shells that are custom molded to your individual ear canals. This means they go deeper, and are generally more comfortable with a very snug fit that increases isolation. But they are much more expensive, and are harder to buy with longer wait times and you need to have ear molds taken (sometimes multiple times). Modern universal shells have gotten much better with 3D printing, and the ear-analysis companies employ these days has closed the gap a lot, so CIEMs have become less popular since their heyday in the 2010s.

    • @milesmccollough5507
      @milesmccollough5507 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@profound369 “CIEM” = *custom* in-ear monitor. CIEM-specialized companies generally take special-orders from people who have 3-D scans of their ear canals taken by audiologists. usually these clinics will give you the scan results in an email and you can send the schematics of your ear to the company for them to design an IEM shell that fits literally perfectly to ONLY your ear.

    I fully agree. I've tried it once at zeppelin and completely fell in love with it. It was pure perfection, even in its universal form. Maybe im just blessed that i could shove it all the way into my ears so that i it sounded more like the ciem version. Everyone has to try it at least once, it's peak. It does not have the most or even the best bass, i think the z1r is still better for bass. However, it was the most cohesive package I've ever heard. Great separation, decent soundstage, godly speed without sounding unnatural and all that with only 4 BAs. Its a lot of hyperbole, but if you get the chance, give it a try.
    Side note:
    It was great meeting you at the hangout the other day! Also got to meet precog there as well. Super lucky for me!

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a Viento-R but found it to be a bit too bright for me as mentioned in the video so I ended up selling it off to someone else. I made the switch over to only buying customs to prevent myself from constantly buying and reselling flagship models. My sister is getting married in Korea soon so it'll be a great opportunity to stop by Hidition to pick up a custom Viento.

    They weren’t ahead of their time; they’re just one of, if not the, only ones who designed an IEM like a home system rather than a hearing aid. Which doesn’t take away from the apparent (as I’ll probably never hear it)greatness of this IEM. The apparently knew their stuff better than any other IEM designer to date even if only by not falling into the trap of thinking nothing from home audio speaker design applies to IEMs.

    I just bought a pair of Stax SR-L 700 MK2's with an SRM-500T amp, and this "earspeaker" was originally designed in the 80's.... AND IT ROCKS!! Just the texture of instruments, solid detailed bass, HUGE dynamic range so you can really "feel" the music, pretty damn good spatial accuracy (I use them for playing games on my computer, not just music). Honestly, I have absolutely no complaints about them sounds wise. The only complaints I have is that the size of the device is too tall at the smallest adjustment for my head so I have to wear a hat to get the right sound out of them :P Also they're $1700 :' (

    Great explanation on how drivers work and why more does not mean better. Thanks.

    • @rustyshakelford1466
      @rustyshakelford1466 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More drivers does mean less distortion, but it comes down to the individual drivers being stacked in the first place and there is definitely a point where it audibly doesn't make a difference to stack even more. It often doesn't make sense to go beyond double stacking, you shouldn't need to for decent drivers anyways. Even with a complex crossover about 4 per side is all you need and you can get away with only 3 or 2 and still get S-tier sound if your drivers are good. But then you get into things like BA "packages", which make it easier to stack because they only have to be wired as single drivers but come designed as dual or quad units. For example the Orchestra Lite has 8 drivers per side but in a 3-way crossover, because the BAs come in packages of 2 bass + 4 mid + 2 high. It works well, and you can even go further with a 4-way crossover like this but not only doubling but adding electrostats or a dynamic somewhere in the mix. That's how you get 10+ driver IEMs. Even those you could argue aren't "too far" (if you can handle the shell size). What is too far is IEMs with giant stacks of 16+ all BA per side, at that point you will never hear any distortion benefits. And at those prices it makes more sense to go the opposite way, to use less drivers and just pump lots of R&D into those specific drivers so you don't have to stack them in the first place. This is how Sony can make S-tier sound with just a 1+1.

      Nah, this is just a case of a company with better, more skilled R&D that made something ahead of its time. Most of the gear that was top tier 10 years ago is horribly outdated now. They were good then, doesn't mean they stay good.

    • @rustyshakelford1466
      @rustyshakelford1466 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends, for IEMs most don't hold up that well past 5 years. And that's the good stuff that at the time was expensive as hell. Cheap or mid-tier IEMs from the early days? (2000s-2010s) are almost all crap by today's standards. Headphones have seen a lot less progression though outside of the very high end and those are relatively new. Sennheiser HD580 from 1991 holds up incredibly well to this day. So does the portapro from 1985 even if it needs some EQ. Same for some of the old AKG and Sony stuff as well. Lots of headphones and speakers from 30+ years ago are still amazing today but IEMs much less so. But then IEMs were a "for work" specialist device meant for monitoring or stage work or as hearing aids until relatively recently.

      it would be a Shure KSE1200, or a Audeze LCDi4 tuned to IEF neutral using EQ. Funny thing is, crin actually almost heard that because the MkI cipher cable of the i4 corrected it to something close. He gave it S/S+. The newer cipher cable messed it up, you can see him talk about it in his LCDi3 impressions on his website. So his current answer would be a i4 with its orginal cipher cable. The KSE and the i4 are the only iems that have the potential to be S+ in tuning and technicals.

    yo, could you maybe make a new iem wiyh your partners with 3 or 4 drivers and like TRUTHEAR x Crinacle ZERO drivers but last one handle the bass while the woofer handles 5khz to 21khz? maybe less than 80+-usd? cause why not?
    TRUTHEAR x Crinacle ZERO is great and like my ears like them but the woofer drivers making cracking noise when i use full volume on my mini amplifier, didnt expect it to happen but it still works cause i turn volume down one click right when it happened, sounds amazing wth 5.1 or 4.1 music files but i need a bit stronger drivers on that woofer,,

      I feel like before the century (>2000) is considered ancient. In Crinacle terms, its just that they're an OG.

      @@darukaru Comparing speakers with iems is only something someone who has no idea what they're talking about would say. Theyre' not the same thing, the same way headphones are not the same thing. Compare iems with iems only.

      Custom made in Korea and sold exclusively by 1 seller in Singapore means high margins to not be sold at a massive lost. That's just my theory of what's happening though.
