That song has never been sung better and never will.
Everyone says Elvis was the nicest, most handsome, humble, gentleman, shy, respectful, generous man. What a legacy.
When Paul Simon (part of Simon and Garfunkel) heard Elvis sing this song for the first time, he said, "How the hell am I suppose to follow that." Even the original singer of the song thought his version was amazing.
As soon as Elvis covered a song, it became his song.
The only entertainer I can think of that consistently performs a song better than the original.

Elvis gave the song whatever the song needed at the time. He never did vocal gymnastics and was always tasty in how he dynamically moved the song. His tone and pitch is just amazing too.

For a solo singer to EVEN TRY a Simon & Garfunkel song like this without a partner that could handle Garfunkel's beautiful night notes you WOULD THINK would be pure insanity. But ELVIS blows conventional wisdom RIGHT OUT THE DOOR with this. Once Elvis belts out his mid range you realize quick that THERE IS ANOTHER WAY to do this song in the elevated LEGEND CATEGORY. Elvis handles this song with EXPERT LEVEL baritone/tenor ranges & vibrato SO WELL, every bit as good as Garfunkel handled his high range parts, and drove the song with just a LOT of passion and power and pain. Elvis did the IMPOSSIBLE HERE. So SINGERS OF TODAY... dont forget to practice mid rage like Elvis did. And the SILENT PARTS... make your song BREATHE. Just remember there is only ONE Elvis. In all music history, Elvis owned this mid range and that's why I think he really broke through for so long as an entertainer more than any other reason. His music will never die. They will study him for centuries and centuries.

I was 14 when I first saw Elvis in GI Blues, I fell in love immediately 😍 saw the film 11 times in 2 weeks. Then life took over. Like you I've just found him again, I hadn't seen any of this concert, Aloha from Hawaii yes. I'm 73 now and what a beautiful man inside and out he was.
I think in this concert he was at his best in looks and voice.

It was with this song that I became a true Elvis Presley fan. Miss Mancha, in her eyes when reacting to the video, as they always translate what a person of musical sensibility feels when faced with this classic, that not even the author of the music was able to give such drama and make this song immortal. Viva Elvis and Viva Miss Mancha !!! Fantastic.
The Best version ever of this song (including Elvis:s) own covers. His phrasing towards the end of the first chorus is so masterful that even Paul Simon (the composer) has to still fathom it. Amazing is the word really.
