Its the review after using Day 5:- Pros:- Overall look is excellent & Stylish and elegant! Storage is sufficient and watch is fast. Beautiful watch faces. You can change and personalise watch faces. You can send , sms and whatsapp messages directly from the watch. You can use Google assistant anytime with click of button or saying "Ok Google" You can listen songs directly on watch using Google play music, spotify etc. You can use SBI wear app directly on this smartwatch and can transfer money while logging on the SBI wear application. In India, Google pay is not available on this watch, but it is available on US, Australia etc. You can install other applications like Google Fit, Cardiogram, Weather apps, Watch faces, Calculator, Notepads, TH-cam app, Google translate. You can change the notification preferences. You can change the straps. Cons:- Connectivity problem (sometimes). This watch is not meant for calling yet. You are able to receive calls and make calls via this smartwatch but sound of the other person is not clearly audible to you. Speaker makes cracking sound while taking calls. May be it will get fix in further updates. Charging:- You need charging after 4 -6 hrs of use, if you are using maximum number of applications and brightness high, volume high. EDIT: I just wanted to update those who are on the fence. Most importantly, GOOGLE ASSISTANT WORKS! The watchband is far from "cheap", feels durable and what you would expect from a quality fossil product. I will update however as usual for Wear OS for battery life I have had around 2 days use of battery life. I expect that some use is needed to see what the battery life balances out to. This watch is seriously smooth and in my opinion is the best so far. I'd highly recommend the GEN 5 as it's far exceeded my expectations of quality. "The band feels cheap, but it is a $300 watch." I'm sorry what? That's not cheap for a watch, $10 is cheap 😂😂
@@TRDGE Even Breitlings have crappy bracelets for the money so he's comparing the Fossil to a $300-400 seiko which would have even worse quality than Swiss
Men's smartwatches can cost up to $2K or $5K for regular watches. Let's not talk about luxury watches which go as high as $20-50K For me 300$ is super cheap for a watch, it'll last a couple of years but don't expect much. High end watches can be resold for thousands of $ and can be passed to sons and grandsons on the other side
Thanks for this, picked one up today, hopefully the battery doesn't turn out to be as bad as most suggest...and the charging ring issue some have reported down the line. Keep up the great content 👊🏿💯
This night be my next Wear OS smartwatch unless Google blesses us with a Pixel watch come October which I'm truly hoping for!!!!! I haven't had a Wear OS smartwatch since the 1st Motorola 360
I have one and the battery life is rather disappointing. I have to charge it every day. I have tilt to wake and button to wake, and connectivity except NFC on, other stuff are mostly off. Sometimes the watch goes dizzy and won't even last a whole day. It's useable to me except that I have low battery anxiety
Thanks for the introduction to this watch. It looks very interesting. My only complain about this watch is that you have to have paid subscription in order to download your music on the watch. So those gigabytes of memory space is useless. I'm therefore checking which Garmin is as good because on their watch you can just put your musics from your laptop and you are good to go.
Oddly this video was suggested to me because I bought one on best buy to gift this watch to my dad for Christmas but it's good I got informed on the basics for setup
Finally a Wear OS smart watch I'm excited for. After the original Huawei Watch there wasn't any Wear OS watch that interested me so I moved to the Galaxy Watch, but this could replace that.
i still wear my OG Huawei from time to time. The low memory is def showing its age. My main watch currently is the lg sport. Has a little bit more RAM so runs smoother but its huge and a battery hog. i hope this watch is good!
I'm still using my Moto 360 version 2 and I still love The styling over all these new watches. I would welcome an upgrade but I haven't seen anything compelling yet.
How is the battery life on yours? My deteriorated bad and will barely last a full day now. I now only use it to check notifications and time because if I do anything else such as update apps or even respond to messages it is so slow and wrecks the battery
I can get one and a half days on my 2nd Gen. Moto 360. I had high hopes for the latest Moto 360 (moto360.com) but not thrilled about that watch's price, given its the same specs as the Fossil watch in this video.
Just got a Ticwatch S2 for Prime Day and I'm quite happy with it, they recently did an update that improved performance even on the Snapdragon 2100 and 512gb ram but I'm glad the hardware is finally getting really good and that Wear OS watchmakers finally realized that it's probably the ram that's mostly been holding them back at least in performance. Now that I know I like Wear OS I might definitely upgrade to either this or its successor. I was considering a Sport instead of my S2 but I saw a lot of reports of the crown sticking like you mentioned, and also ones of those metal charging rings separating and coming off of the back. I wonder if they've done anything to address that like better adhesive or something, because this charging system is pretty much universal to Fossil and their other brand's watches. I've seen a few reports on other Fossil group watches like Misfits doing it but the Sport was kind of their mainstream breakthrough and is probably their best seller so just through volume there were a significant amount of reports with it.
Finally a watch that doesn't leave out some obvious feature... This may be a first! In fact the only negative I can truthfully call out for this watch is the rather small screen in that like all Fossil screens they insist on leaving that few mm black band of dead screen space around every watch face. It's not so noticable on Black watch faces, but on any lighter faces it's very noticable (and...why? Just extend edge to edge and you might actually have people passing out for the arrival of a fully feature rich all the essentials and more Wear OS Watch! Bout dag gone time!). Hardware issues aside, I really don't understand why Wear OS gets such a bad rap other than it being the in thing To Do. Why do people think Tizen is so great and free of any issues? Probably because it doesn't have any app support anywhere close to Wear OS and "Bixby" or the renamed S Voice sucks so bad that people never bother to use it - thus Its hard to find fault with something you barely use. Wear OS on three other hand has tons of Apps and Google Asst is the absolute best Watch smart assistant, easily besting Siri, and S Voice isn't even in the same league. Google Now /Swipe Right also is something that no other platform has anything even close to, presenting current important info automatically (not just your daily agenda, but traffic info that may delay your commute home, the tracking and arrival time for your latest Amazon order, your phone bill, and utilities are due in a few days, weather forecast so you might want an umbrella - it's fantastic. And that's just some of the automatic stuff. Tiles are still fairly new and unmistakably Tizen-esque, and hopefully the move to 1GB of RAM will allow more Tiles to be used than just 5 and allow developers full creative power to make new ones. Hardware-wise do still love the rotating bezel of Galaxy Watch but the Wear OS crown is a close enough option if more vendors would only include it, until Samsung makes a new Galaxy Wear watch. So no Watch OS is perfect, but Wear OS is hardly the bastard project that some make it out to be (and rarely cite any actual examples of just what is so bad about it). I find it far more useful and functional than Tizen from almost any metric. Nice review, this watch may very well be my next (imminent) purchase!
I had the Gen 4 and the back cover came off twice in less than a year (both times after taking it off the charger). Fossil repaired it the first time and the second time I got a full refund. Searched the forums and it seems that many people experienced this issue. Disappointed to see that the Gen 5 has the exact same back cover as the Gen 4.
I am thinking to buy this 😁 what about updates? Can you recommend another watch better that this! Is this uses Google wear os app or it requires it's proprietary app?
Just picked up a Gen 5 from the Fossil store today (bummed they don't have silver color anymore and only have gunmetal). Had a Gen 4 prior, and to be honest, it doesn't feel like as much of an upgrade as I was hoping. Also, arguably I think I like the style of the Gen 4 more. Performance of the Gen 5 does seem a bit better compared to my Gen 4 (but not as much as I was hoping for), and I am still getting more lag than I remember on my older Ticwatch E. Also, I was hoping for a more detailed and color always-on watch faces. For example, the Montblanc Summit 2 has nice always-on watch faces with what looks like more detail, as well as color (not just black and white), and since it has the same Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor as the Fossil Gen 5, I was hoping to see better always-on watch faces with the Gen 5, but that doesn't seem to be the case (please correct me if I'm wrong). Will see how battery life compares to Gen 4, but based on reports of the Wear 3100 processor, it doesn't fare much better than the 2100 that's in the Gen 4. Overall, I am either just going to return it and keep my Gen 4, or maybe wait until Black Friday rolls around to get the Gen 5 at a cheaper price.
I'm actually now considering getting a used Gear S3 Classic, which is basically 3 years old at this point, but still somehow has a better display, better battery life, better performance, etc. then a watch that just came out. Wear OS software and hardware really need to step it up. Maybe in another year or so....
Fossil's dark brown leather strap looks good with the dark gray steel, and is a good price. I find it much more comfortable than the original steel strap.
I think the question is, can the watch be connected to 2 devices (phone and headphones) or not. Android P is on the phone which can be connected to upto 5 devices, but that's not the real question tho.
Imo Wear OS is better than Tizen in many ways. Tizen does have an edge on battery life. I’m getting 2 days life on my Fossil gen 4, the gen 5 should be the same or better due to the newer chip that has virtually no lag at all.
Please be aware on this. 1) battery life :: enabled Bluetooth ONLY ( no watch GPS) and running apps (Google fit) only last for 5 hours. 2. Standalone GPS :: No GPS signal for watch ONLY. ( After disable phone Bluetooth ). ( Watch connectivity ->GPS is enabled ). 3. After sales service :: I raise the issue to a few channel ( Facebook fossil, Twitter fossil, international fossil support and Malaysia fossil ). After a month still no get and help from them. Their support(Facebook and Twitter ) only replied once. While customer service is just keep pushing to another guy ( say another team to handle, he.she should raise my ticket directly to another team, and not asks me write in separate email to look for help)
Can u get SoundCloud with this watch? And what is the battery life like? Can u take a real swim with it or just like rain/ splash resistant? Trying to decide between this watch and Fitbit versa 2
Hi! What is the connectivity like? Will the watch have to be connected to WiFi, or how does it work? Appreciate your response! Never had a smart watch before! :) Thank you!
I have a question, I have owned EVERY generation of Fossil Q... not every model obviously but every geration I have upgraded... Do you see upgrading from 4 to 5 worth spending the extra? My gen 4 is in perfect condition and works great, so just wanting an opinion if you think it is worth it? :)
@@meteornova3493 yeah, i have the gen 4 explorist hr (the polished one) and since i have a little collection of watches and i like mote classy looking watches... Then gen 5 takes a step too far towards a sportier look for me
Have a Gen 4 and just purchased a Gen 5, and the Gen 5 is going back to the Fossil store. Don’t get me wrong - it’s nice, and has smoother all around performance, but the upgrade isn’t worth the price to me. Speaker is nice but not necessary for me personally. I happen to like the Gen 4 style more, and bummed the Gen 5 doesn’t come in any kind of silver color, only gunmetal. Also, the automatic brightness level on the Gen 5 is dimmer than the Gen 4, which I’m sure partially leads to the better battery life of the Gen 5, but in certain environments it’s a bit too dim for my liking, and I wish there was an option to change that (without having to set a static brightness level).
@@flybriur thanks for the opinion! I dont find the speaker a necessity for me as more often than not im wearing headphones... I prefer the classy "watch" style of the gen 4 to be honest... Dont think ill be upgrading... Hopefully the gen 4's continue to get updates.. Thanks again for the input!!
@@DavyBrandonQuick Sure thing! To me, if you have Gen 4 and you're ok with the battery life, I just don't see much of a reason to upgrade, especially for $300. At $250 or under, the Gen 5 becomes more of an attractive upgrade, but to me for $300 when the Gen 4 is almost half the price, and moving from the Gen 5 to the Gen 5 isn't an upgrade (like the dimmer screen using auto-brightness). Again, the Gen 5 is not a bad watch in the least. That being said, I just don't think any of the improvements made is worth the $300 asking price, when the Gen 4 gives you the vast majority of the same experience for $179. For people interested in a Gen 5, I'd just wait for Black Friday to roll around to get a decent discount on it.
I bought one and sent it back. The screen is small. My Huawei is 42mm with a 34mm screen. The Fossil is 44mm and the screen is 32mm. If you use a full screen dial it looks odd.
i miss the screen size of my old OG moto 360- Zen watch 3 got a smaller screen too- So phones are getting massive screen increases every year but smartwatches get smaller ? I took the bait and ordered regardless- The performance on this Z3 is dreadful still looks good though.
On the Gen 4 watches the charging ring falls off. I sent my Explorist in for repair for the 2nd time because of it. Seeing the same charging style for the Gen 5 doesn't give me much hope in the build quality department.
@@SyrupSplash hopefully. But you would think on the later produced Gen 4 or the ones sent back from repair would also be fixed. The charging ring fell off mine after 4 months so I sent it in for repair. Then it fell off again in a little over a month.
@@cjo1992 'tis a possibility the reason it'd fall out was due to some major design error on the inside, might not have been able to completely fix it without redesigning a bunch of shit
I really want to know why you are a wear os fan? I would like to give it a try again but Mann was my fossil Gen 4 wayyy to laggy. Since then Tizen seems much more stable while apple watch is unfortunately without if any hiccups.
Droid Life: Where did you buy the bands for the 44mm smart watch? I like the yellow mustard watch band, and I would like to know where I can go to purchase? Thanks!
I have the same dilemma, and am with Samsung now, but planning to switch back to iOS for the 2020 iPhones. I know Fossil will have an app for iOS, but I don’t think Samsung will. Which should I get?
IIRC Google purchased Fossil's smartwatch staff and tech up to now presumably working on making a Pixel watch. Doubt we will see the fruits of that acquisition this year at the Pixel event but I would say this is the closest thing currently available to being a first party Google watch in terms of features and running the latest Wear updates.
So I'm not a huge person when it comes to wear os, but it does intrigue me. I'm a one plus 6t user who wants to get a smart watch. Should I go for this one or the ticwatch pro with LTE?
If you want a longer battery life then ticwatch pro 4g LTE is what you should go for, but for speed and a better Wear os experience, you should go with the Fossil gen 5.
@@aneeshyalgi7245 - sometimes it's super laggy although that's more of a WearOS fault - had to wait a very long time to be able to use google fit shortcut instead of tichealth - still don't have a black background, instead I have an ugly green one which I'm gonna have to fix through adb because mobvoi dropped support for this watch
Hi, I am about to purchase my first Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch and noticed that there is only a charging cable but not the physical charger. I also learned that this device has quick charger capabilities. As I have to purchase a new charger, can I please ask what tech specs I should look for? I wish to have answers in Output Volts ad Ampere values for both non-quick and quick charger. Not even Fossil support has an official answer. Thanks
You don't have to line up perfectly until the back of the watch first to fall apart and then you have to line up perfectly. I hope they fixed it with this watch, but it doesn't exactly look like it was improved. 2:49
The Fossil Gen 5 watch has issues with GPS, it will not connect unless you are connected to your phone. The build in GPS does not work, Google it and you will find forum threads on this I don't know why none of the reviewers mention this You cannot connect to GPS unless you have your phone with you, which makes the build in GPS useless
Fossil watches and tic watch pro have been my go to devices since the og Huawei watch always solid devices for reasonable price now the performance matches finally
Same here -- own both a Fossil smartwatch and a Ticwatch. I have to say though, I am extremely concerned about Mobvoi's customer service. I had an issue with their Ticpods I purchased. I sent them in, and, no joke, it took over three months to get a replacement. Because of that, I'm extremely skeptical of buying anything else from them. Fossil's customer service I have heard is excellent though.
How are the preinstalled apps? I really want to jump onto Wear OS but I use the Nike Run Club app on my phone when I run and I'm not sure how the app translates to the Wear OS version.
It's good the play store is in the watch and you can download most of the apps u got in your phone. To check if the app you want is available for wear os open up the play store on your phone go to the Nike run club app and scroll down to check if there is a "wear os enhanced" symbol somewhere
Might be worth upgrading from my Gen 3. I purchased the Gen 3 over the 4 because it has a speaker for phone calls. I would love NFC and a heart rate monitor. But there's always ONE LITTLE issue. The heart rate sensor is 24/7 tracking... This is what I miss from my Fitbit Versa (terrible smartwatch, but amazing tracker). I really don't want to wear a Gen 5 and a Fitbit hand just tor heart rate.
I have it since a few days, and the battery life is worse than the Gen 4 (where it was already bad). And they advertise as 36h battery life (vs 24h for Gen 4). What a scam.
W.A.HOU. how's the vibration motor compared to, say, an Apple watch? I currently own a Huawei Watch 1, and I usually end up hearing the vibration rather than hearing it. It's so incredibly weak and loud.
I'm glad I waited for this to be in the $175 zone. It's definitely worth it now.

Wear OS software and hardware really need to step it up. Maybe in another year or so....
Bit pricey but lets hope they improved on the sensors namely HR and gps. Otherwise the watch active 2 is the better option.
Great watch, just picked one up today. Black version 😍
Fossil's dark brown leather strap looks good with the dark gray steel, and is a good price. I find it much more comfortable than the original steel strap.
This watch is $150 over at Best buy. I just saw it today 11/5/2020
139 on amazon right now
I have Bluetooth earphones, can i still connect that to my phone and then also connect my watch?
Yes Android P and up can connect up to 5 Bluetooth devices
I think the question is, can the watch be connected to 2 devices (phone and headphones) or not. Android P is on the phone which can be connected to upto 5 devices, but that's not the real question tho.
Point of Fossil watch?
This watch is telling me the weather forecast from each part of the world - just great. A big deal.
Hey, nice video! Could you make one about all the limitations that WearOS has when compared to Tizen and Apple’s WatchOS?
Imo Wear OS is better than Tizen in many ways. Tizen does have an edge on battery life. I’m getting 2 days life on my Fossil gen 4, the gen 5 should be the same or better due to the newer chip that has virtually no lag at all.
Looks so good. How durable would you say it is?
My wrist can sometimes be a dangerous place for tech and the buttons do stick out a bit.
Fitbit Versa 2 vs Garmin Vivoactive 4 vs Garmin Venu vs Galaxy Watch Active 2 vs Fossil Gen 5 .
this watch looks dope. im considering buying it. i have a ticwatch pro atm. is it worth the $295 price tag?
lashun yess 100 prozent
Oh dang.... I don’t know if I have the power or patience to wait 2 months to see if Google just might finally release a Pixel Watch 😩
gen 4 have a btter design i swear
How is its screen quality? Does it get scratches?
Google makes a fantastic phone OS, but fuck if Wear OS is complete buns. Tizen, while completely separate is much smoother right now.
Wants to give me advise on a smartwatch. Can't open a box.
For me nothing beats the standup charger on my moto 360 2nd gen.
LOL! The best part about your watch is the charger?!?! You must the watch then.
@@zedorda1337 well yea the watch is 5yrs old now not much to like about it when it's 5yrs behind in hardware.
If i want to buy temperedglass, which one that i should buy?? 44mm 43mm?
Great video bud
On the Gen 4 watches the charging ring falls off. I sent my Explorist in for repair for the 2nd time because of it. Seeing the same charging style for the Gen 5 doesn't give me much hope in the build quality department.
I can't imagine they didn't address it, the issue was pretty bloody widespread
I wanna buy this, but also wanna wait til Google possibly releases their own watch. *Question:* Should I wait or not, plan to buy this around Friday.
@@ohio that pixel phones run perfectly...
Hello
Is there anyway to add a personalized ringtone? I just bought this watch but i cant seem to set a personalized ringtone?
Why would you change such a beautiful strap to that sport strap.. the beauty of this watch lies in the strap too
Armin Sanjana I have that strap...it’s VERY heavy. Nice for formal events but it’s a bit annoying for every day use.
Agreed. I bought it for the metal strap.
Droid Life: Where did you buy the bands for the 44mm smart watch? I like the yellow mustard watch band, and I would like to know where I can go to purchase? Thanks!
Check it out on AliExpress
Check it out on AliExpress
Seems like one of the few wear os watches that is actually worth it
I have galaxy s10+ and i don't know what to get
Fossil gen 5 or galaxy active 2 ????
The active is more future proof, so I'd go with that
I have the same dilemma, and am with Samsung now, but planning to switch back to iOS for the 2020 iPhones. I know Fossil will have an app for iOS, but I don’t think Samsung will.
Which should I get?
ItsJustTech the fossil
Active 2 is launched ! Go with it
@@intellitechdataservice active 2 comes out on September 27th
Can I get the link to the app he is using for the watch faces? Is it just the Fossil Hybrid App? Thanks in advance
great vid! I'm a bit concerned about your caffeine intake though lol
Bedazzling 😂 no idea why that made me chuckle
Just two question.
Does it lag when using Google Assistant/Phone calls/Downloading apps from play store?
And will it overheat when charging?
Walter CCH yes gen 4 lags alot don’t know about gen 5
Both not i have the gen 5 and its more than smooth thanks to the 1gb of RAM
Is it compatible with iOS?
So I'm not a huge person when it comes to wear os, but it does intrigue me. I'm a one plus 6t user who wants to get a smart watch. Should I go for this one or the ticwatch pro with LTE?
If you want a longer battery life then ticwatch pro 4g LTE is what you should go for, but for speed and a better Wear os experience, you should go with the Fossil gen 5.
Honestly, after buying Ticwatch E, I wouldn't recommend buying anything from mobvoi and go with the Fossil
@@CatCubed What was so bad in that watch? Was it the speed?
I personally have the Ticwatch pro and it is quite smooth 95% of the time
@@aneeshyalgi7245 - sometimes it's super laggy although that's more of a WearOS fault
- had to wait a very long time to be able to use google fit shortcut instead of tichealth
- still don't have a black background, instead I have an ugly green one which I'm gonna have to fix through adb because mobvoi dropped support for this watch
Where can I find such bands ? Which is the best smart watch according to you ?
Hi,
I am about to purchase my first Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch and noticed that there is only a charging cable but not the physical charger. I also learned that this device has quick charger capabilities.
As I have to purchase a new charger, can I please ask what tech specs I should look for? I wish to have answers in Output Volts ad Ampere values for both non-quick and quick charger.
Not even Fossil support has an official answer.
Thanks
The charging brick must be of 5V aka 1 ampere in order not to damage the battery over time
I'm pretty new to these kinds of watches. Are you able to connect Bluetooth headphones/earbuds directly to the watch?
Yes. And you can download songs to the watch through Google play Music.
yes it does, it's quite handy if you don't wanna bring your smartphone with you :D
You don't have to line up perfectly until the back of the watch first to fall apart and then you have to line up perfectly.
I hope they fixed it with this watch, but it doesn't exactly look like it was improved.

Was a batch problem. Never had issue with My gen 4 for months
Haven't had a problem with my gen 5
How's the GPS tracking on this watch?
This has better specs then my phone 😅
The Fossil Gen 5 watch has issues with GPS, it will not connect unless you are connected to your phone. The build in GPS does not work, Google it and you will find forum threads on this
I don't know why none of the reviewers mention this
You cannot connect to GPS unless you have your phone with you, which makes the build in GPS useless
Just switched from IOS to android thinking of getting this watch
I wonder if the Gen 3 way better looking metal straps would fit and make it look better.
Looks like a very nice watch by Fossil.
Great video..... what about battery life?????
How are the preinstalled apps? I really want to jump onto Wear OS but I use the Nike Run Club app on my phone when I run and I'm not sure how the app translates to the Wear OS version.
its the same like on the phone..pretty reliable
It's good the play store is in the watch and you can download most of the apps u got in your phone. To check if the app you want is available for wear os open up the play store on your phone go to the Nike run club app and scroll down to check if there is a "wear os enhanced" symbol somewhere
how is the battery
Can you use it upside down on left hand and the crown on the right side?
Can we view photos on it ?

Does it support apps like Instagram or TH-cam?

I have the fossil q gen 5. Should I up-grade to the newer version or not?
Hope they made a Spart variant that has less weight and more robustness to harsh environment but with the same spec.
Nice review!
BTW, how is the battery life in different settings?
Time Only should be a week, daily mode two days. Rest in between
Is it for android?
It works for both android and iPhone. But it’s better for Android
Does it store music? And can I pair it with Bluetooth headphones whilst out running?
Yes
Droid Life, Wrist size please?
Why is this metal version of the Watch on the video more dark than the others reviews videos here in youtube?
I have it since a few days, and the battery life is worse than the Gen 4 (where it was already bad). And they advertise as 36h battery life (vs 24h for Gen 4). What a scam.
W.A.HOU. how's the vibration motor compared to, say, an Apple watch? I currently own a Huawei Watch 1, and I usually end up hearing the vibration rather than hearing it. It's so incredibly weak and loud.
Please tell me the gallery app which supported in fossil gen5 Garrett smartwatch
Is iOS supported
this or the active 2 for my Galaxy S10+ ??
