How to Sew a dog treat bag by Debbie Shore

- This handy pouch is the perfect place to keep dog treats, poo bags and your mobile phone when you’re out walking. I’ve made a buttonhole to pull the bags through, an eyelet would work, or just leave this part out altogether!
Make the strap longer if you wish, and it’s quite easy to make the pouch in a larger or smaller size.
Materials:
For the zip section:
1 outer and 1 lining fabric each measuring 8” x 1.5” [20cm x 4cm]
1 outer and 1 lining fabric each measuring 8” x 4.5” [20cm x 11cm]
10” 25cm] zip
Interfacing for the wrong sides of the outer pieces, I use Vleseline G700
For the pocket:
1 outer and 1 lining fabric each measuring 8” x 4.5” [20cm x 11cm]
1 outer and 1 lining fabric each measuring 8” x 3.5” [20cm x 9cm]
4” [10cm] hook and loop fastening
2 x lining pieces each measuring 8” x 6” [20cm x 15cm]
For the tab:
3” x 4” [7.5cm x 10cm] lining fabric
¾” [1.5cm] swivel clasp
I came late to sewing after the birth of my granddaughter. You were one of the first sewists I discovered on TH-cam. I continue to return to your channel for your clear, concise tutorials, your engaging manner, the practical projects and because your choice of beautiful fabrics always bring me joy. I do not have a natural affinity for sewing, but I always know that I can reliably complete your objects because of your precise instructions. I do not know why you don't have a million subscribers! I have also purchased many of your books and love those as well! I wish you continued success in all your many endeavors.

Hi Debbie, I only recently discovered your tutorials and have already made and sold several of your kiddies backpacks, and have now made the doggie bag. I love your patterns and presentations!
My question is, on the materials listed above you say 2 x lining pieces each measuring 8” x 6”. Why not 8” x 4.5” as with the other pieces? I ended up cutting off the extra 1.5” and still ended up with a perfect bag. Thanks for your great work.

This is timely Debbie, my daughter has a puppy and we always give our pets presents at Christmas too. I am going to make this for Wilma along with a matching harness and lead. Anything for cats coming up? Thanks Debbie, I love it.

Just made this but managed to lose 1/2” on height somewhere so cut lining smaller. Beware there are 2 seams to hand sew at the end - 2nd one in the pocket so at lot of turning piece one way and other - 😮💨 I did the eyelet as I’m not sure about pulling bags through the buttonhole - ok if you just need one bag I guess as you can get it ready to pull through. I’d make it bigger if I had the energy to make another. I added elastic as a wrist band too. I need a cup of tea! Cool idea though Debbie - thx

I am going to make a few of these for the PAAWS, (Protecting Animals in Antigua With a Smile) local animal shelter here in Antigua. They are desperate for donations since covid hit and fundraising is so hard

Smaller will be harder to turn out I’d go Debbie’s size - it’s not that big when done

Big enough to pull bags through at least an inch. I did an inch

At 16:55 you instruct to sew 3 inches along the bottom. Shouldn't it be: leave a three inch turning hole in the bottom of the bag? I'm a 72 year old man that began sewing Covid face masks. I've graduated to bags and love your tutorials.

Skip the phone and carry biscuits or cheese for treats instead. Fill one side, clean up from the other. Lol
