How to Sew A Fat Quarter Storage box by Debbie Shore

  • This handy storage box is the perfect size to fit six fat quarter packs, but of course you can store anything you like in there!
    The finished size is 8” x 5” x 4” [20cm x 12.5cm x 10cm]
Make this in any size you like, but make sure the corners you cut out are square. I suggest if you want to try different sizes, cut the main shape out of paper first, tape the corners up and you’ll se the finished size of your box.
And why not add a ribbon trim to personalise your box!
    Materials from www.debbieshoresewing.com
    Materials:
    13” x 16” [33cm x 40.5cm] Decovil Light
    15” x 18” [38cm x 46cm] outer fabric [AGF Eve Diamonds]
    16” x 18” [41cm x 46cm] lining fabric [Premium Rose Pink]
Cut a 4” [10cm] square from each corner of the Decovil

I know there is always some waste with sewing projects, but sometimes it blows my mind just how much some folks do waste! I’ve always had to be so frugal over the year it’s hard for me to waste anything. Can’t wait to give this pattern a go. Thank you for the good instructions! 🙂

Really enjoyed this tutorial. I agree ladder stitch is very satisfying. I was sent some medium weight interfacing in error from Amazon, I’m going to make good use of it now! Double layers will be great for a more structured finish. Thanks again for taking your time to do this. I’ve learned a lot. 😊

This wd be a nice size for charm packs too! And I’ve been looking for some containers to gather my sewing tools. These wd be great bc you can customize the size to your tools. Cd even make it w/a flap for a dust cover! Put a cute little button closure if you like.

Hi Debbie - Awesome box! I’ve made a lot of these over the years. I like your tip about adding a small seam to the outside corners once it’s finished. I will be doing that on my next boxes. So many uses for these boxes!
    🎉 Happy New Year!

Decovil Light is expensive so an alternative way to cut is a complete middle section and two end panels cut separately. As it is iron on it would be easy to place these end panels in the right place, then proceed as instructed. This will save you the width of one end panel. If you make more than one box then the savings will quickly mount up. I measured the inside of an Ikea Billy bookcase to make boxes to fit (25 cm x 18 cm base x 18 cm height). I use the boxes to store sewing pattern envelopes.

In Canada, it is called Pellon 526 - or something similar. You can probably find a product in the U.S. that is very close.

      Any firm interfacing would work…

  • @Louise-xr5ok

My interfacing says peel the back of as well, did I use the wrong type?

    • @debbieshore
      @debbieshore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That sounds like fusible adhesive, interfacing doesn’t normally have a peel off back…
