Train trip to the Jungfrau Mountain at the Top of Europe, near Interlaken and Grindelwald, Switzerland. Europe's highest railroad line will bring you up to a spectacular world of perpetual winter, dominated by massive, snow-covered peaks reaching over 13,000 feet high and surrounding the continent's longest glacier. Many consider the train ride up one of the finest, most picturesque in the world, where getting to the top is half the fun. The journey from Interlaken to Grindlewald can be easily made on the Bernese Overland railway, and it travels on a scenic route through the valley and along the river and passes several villages. There are magnificent mountain views all along the way.
The hundred-year-old rail line from Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch is one of Europe's great engineering wonders, the world's highest subway climbing through four miles of tunnels inside the rock. The beginning of this 50-minute journey is not underground, and momentarily offers a great view; so sit on the right side of the train. The train makes two brief stops enroute to let everyone out for a walk through short tunnels to viewing stations, where you look through windows at the nearby mountain peaks and the landscapes far below.
Upon arrival at the end of the rail line, you walk through an ice tunnel decorated with ice carvings and then approach a sight too amazing for description or film. You really have to pay your dues and go there in person to experience the exhilaration of standing at the top of the world, surrounded by Alpine giants of snow.The observation deck and snowfield are at 11,350 feet, flanked by the jagged peaks of the Jungfrau (13,642 ft.) and the Mönch (13,449 ft.), which form a valley that cradles the Aletsch Galcier, an endless field of snow that stretches 13 miles to the horizon.
Plan on spending an hour or two at the top, playing in the snow and exploring the various levels and exhibits of the visitor center, then catch a convenient train back down the route you came. You return to Kleine Scheidegg, where you can change trains for a different return route that will take you through Wengen and down to Lauterbrunnen.

Wonderful videos covering this most beautiful area of Switz - I went to Grindelwald for the first time in 1952 (before marriage), my wife and I spent our `honeymoon in Grindelwald in 1956`. We have been lucky to have visited this area many, many times, we have driven down from Dorset Uk. Not many areas we have missed during this time - Our favourite holiday country, however now in our mid eighties can`t walk the mountains as we used to any more, (86 & 85 years) David & Audrey
But you still have those beautiful memories.

Oh yes I’ve been to several European countries and Switzerland is the most beautiful country in Europe because of its stunning scenery and neatly organised towns and villages that are pretty the sophisticated railway system then the fact that wherever you go in Switzerland it’s clean and tidy this all based on my ten day stay in the summer of 1982 which is a while ago and obviously things have changed somewhat and I’d like to visit Switzerland again and stay for a fortnight so I can visit the places that I’ve not been to yet such zermatt for the Matterhorn and mount titliss Basel city then Lugano hence Locarno so that’s all for now folks
For me, Switzerland is the most beautiful place on Earth.

Thanks for the memories. I visited Jungfrau a few years ago. The air was crystal clear when I was there... freezing cold and hard to breath, but absolutely stunning scenery. Out on a nearby sheer drop, paragliders were jumping over the edge and soaring high above our heads. I liked Switzerland... such a neat and tidy country.

I'm not Swiss, I have no Swiss roots and I've never been to this area. But I get this overwhelming emotional sense of homesickness when I see videos of this region. Perhaps some day I may visit the area and ride this train. In the meantime, I will watch videos, I will listen to Melanie Oesch yodel and I will dream.

I spent my holiday in Switzerland in last December..visited quiea number of beautiful places. I went to Jungfrau, going up to the top of Europe. It was really amazing. Would like to go there again during thd Spring season. Switzerland is best better than New Zealand.
How fortunate our family was to enjoy this complete trip with clear blue skies and warmer weather every day we were there......but no mention here that the ice tunnel is in the glacier.... nor the dog sleds! We followed Rick Steve’s plan throughout....

I have been visiting this country for three times and still I love this country for the beauty of it's natural landscape, mountains, lakes and the river. I was there 5 years for my summer hollidays when i was a child. The best place i know ! Beautiful landscapes, and Jungfrau indescriptible ! You must go there one time in your life if you can !

About two and a half years back, I had the pleasure of travelling from Interlaken to Jungefrau joch and back. One can see some of the finest natural beauty in this region. Whole place looks so green and immaculate. It is a giant golf course! The Swiss know how to keep their country clean and beautiful.👌👏🏻👏🏻

I worked as a DJ in Interlaken and Wengen in 1976 and even skied from Piz Gloria to Lauterbrunnen, where they filmed part of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' with George Lazenby. I was humming 'The James Bond Theme' all the way down. Wonderful memories, thank you.

yes, that can be done. Once I did something similar from Lucerne, getting to the top of Jungfrau and back to Lucerne in time for a late dinner (room service on the balcony at des Balances), a day in my all-time top-10.

We visited Interlaken , Jungfrau in 2014 and the places are amazingly beautiful. Great trip..Bern, Zurich, Interlaken and Jungfrau.
Stayed for a week at Wilderswil (1st station out of Interlaken Ost on the Bernese Oberland Bahn) on a family holiday in 1960. We took the little rack railway to the beautiful Schynige Platte shown on the video a number of times and also the trip to the Jungfrau. Much more modern rolling stock on most of the trains now. One day led by my father and not properly prepared we rather foolishly walked over the mountain path from Schynige Platte to Grindelwald, and got caught in bad weather. Soaked through and cold, we had a long wait at Grindelwald for the next train back to Wilderswil. My Mum was not amused!

I went to grindelwald when I was a 12 years old with the school I went to it was beautiful then we went up the the mountain aswell I am 72 now and it is still a lovely memory

I was in Interlaken in 1969, long time ago but was beautiful and I was from England so we took our mini car and camped the camping ground was really nice clean and when we arrived in Switzerland they were changing their currency from the French to the swiss, but we travelled alot of places and had friends living in Bern, but love Switzerland, also went up the susten pass and Gothard pass, wonderful memories

I was there in 2006! I didn't have a great time up on the mountain though because I had HORRIBLE altitude sickness, so my body felt like it was just completely done. But the train ride up was so beautiful, this was great to see and relive it.

@@luisdaniellopez4571 I was there early september. in the valley it's average summer climate but at the top it's winter. verry sunny though when I was there so it doesn't feel that cold. make sure you buy the train tickets and reservations in advance. it's very expensive (!) but totally worth it. and if you buy tickets for the early morning there's a discount.
for me it was a day I'll never forget.
