I used 2x2's (also anchored into mortar joint...block basement), with insulation between studs, and got to keep more square footage!
You are cranking the videos out, for sure mate! Have a good weekend! Hope it is warm wherever you are! Thomas!
That Thomas at the end made me chuckle lol
Get a Ramset for the floor makes it so much faster
Where is the thermal break on the floor ?
Moisture if present will wick up through bottom plate onto studs. Pressure treated plate will not be affected but your studs will.
we are not allowed pressure treated on the interior in NS
only decking
How come framed wall has 1” gap between wall and pink/purple foam board?
At what height did you frame the walls in the basement so that you were able to stand them up in place? For instance if you built your wall to the exact measurement of the floor Tom wiping you would be unable to stand the wall up after assembled on the floor. So what amount did you deduct? Half inch?
Awesome 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Where do you put the vaper barrier? Why didnt you use one?
Make sure after you framed the wall to check for square and then install it.
Don't ever nail the frame together with your hand on the wood when you nail the top nail always hold the wood in place nail the bottom first then move your hand then they'll the top otherwise you can skip a nail through the top into your hand
That's what I was thinking. Made me nervous.
Done it
I've seen it done
I prefer to use duct tape instead of nails. Be sure to rhino line the floor to seal it so the evil spirits can’t get in and always get your lumber from trees.
You ever experimented with flex seal? I used to use duct tape and line X, but now I solely use flex seal. Spray it all over the framing too
Dizzy tape? I use scotch tape while drinking scotch and doing this kind of work
Damn it spellcheck turned duct to dizzy
Don't cut your door plate until after you have drywalled
What diff does it make ?
@@abdulhai93 keeping the plate just ensures that the opening is square then the drywall adds strength to the wall, then after the plate is cut the opening remains nice, not 100 percent necessary but it does help if you are the one hanging the doors good luck
What size lumber do you recommend 2x2? 2x4? 2x6?
2x4 or 2x6
What’s that program your using to do that. Need this for my computer
Sketchup! I use the free version
What platform did you use to make the framing model?
Sketchup!
Floating walls?
Your foam is going to mold.
Teach me😊
Im no expert, but it seems like u could have chicken wire and coated the wall, then used thinsulate and painted it. This gives u more space (instead of 8" less).
What about your electrical and plumbing? Have it all exposed and surface mounted? Not really in step with the 'finished basement' part.
@@567dirt8910 he didnt do that, he juat made the walls smooth, but for electricity, how does this stop that? And for plumbing, where would that go? But im sure it too can b ran thru a coat of compound.
Yes, you are definitely not an expert. It's apparent.
@@aaronmyers4054 Tis why i started there.
Could have just used cheap 50x50 batton timber
It’s not structural
I don't know if that is the best way to frame a wall in a basement. First, the floor can rise and drop due to water. What I was thought is to nail a 2x4 onto the floor using a concrete gun. Then make a walk about 2.5" shorter than the full wall height. Then nail the top plate directly into the joists. Then take a 4" nail and nail through the floating wall bottom plate into the pt plate attached to the floor. Then only attach drywall on the floating wall. This keeps drywall from cracking. Maybe this is not done anymore.
Never was done. The concrete floor will not rise and fall with water. the right concrete is heavier then water so no problem with the concrete moving.
@john unsicker it's code in some areas.
@T Rex nah,I'm not buying that
@Dustin Pomeroy ok.
@@trex283 , your just frustrated ! I would be to if I couldn't reach myself for pleasuring purposes!
Go away from pressure treated bottom plate. You can get a plastic subfloor material that will raise the wall up about 3/8" then use sill foam on top of that. Then regular lumber. You should also use the subfloor material under the foam insulation that way you have air flow to get rid of any water that might come in.
Naw too much money for that.
I feel like if you just got treated wood that would best the cost and time and effort
Nice double top plate 👍
Why would you use a double top plate in a non load bearing basement partition? You dont technically even need one in a structural wall as long as your joists/rafter/trusses are within 2 inches of bearing directly over top of a stud it's just good practice to do so
I agree with Jay. These are non load bearing, and are purely for hanging Sheetrock.
If you're using suspended ceilings you can make your wall about an inch short and attach the top to the bottom of the floor joists with 1x4 in any direction. Makes stand up easier and faster without dealing with variation in floor to ceiling height. 16d nails and wire are cheaper than tapcons, 3/16ths hole drop in a 6" length tie wire and pound in the nail. If you're worried about rusting nails you shouldn't be finishing your basement
If you can't afford a box of fasteners you shouldn't be doing any project.
Should have sealed the walls first, and use foam underlay on the bottom of the walls! Other than that it looks good. Do some homework! It’s details like that that will effect everything long term 😁
Maybe he's lived there for a while and he knows water is not an issue.
Plate should not be in direct contact with cement
False
Pressure treated plate or not, you still need a plastic vapour barrier under the bottom plate.
No you don’t lmao
It's vapor you canadian fuck
One mistake. You should have used screws.
Screws are not allowed in house framing.
Yes screws are allowed 😂
Screws take to long.
I can put screws down on deck boards fast, but for framing nothing is faster then a nail gun
You never use screws when framing. Screws snap; nails bend.
Glue The triwall directly on to the phone board it saves time and money
