Hooray! I watched this movie a couple of years ago, loved it but could never remember the name and _viola_ here we are! Thank you Mr. Borchers. Great quality too.
James Mason in a film I have not seen is a must watch all by itself.Dan Duryea and Billy Conrad? OUTA the way, buster! You better learn what's good for ya before I have to educate ya. Noir as well. some days you just get lucky. Thanks again for another treat. You really are too good to us.
Dan Duryea & James Mason alone make this worth watching.......but also a magnificent movie filled with so many twists & turns that it will keep you guessing right to the very end! Classic entertainment!
If anyone hasn’t seen this movie you’re in for a real treat this is an awesome movie that I have probably seen 15 times and I worked in Hollywood from 64 to 81
Conrad usually played a "heavy" in movies at the time. He was more versatile on radio- especially as "Marshal Matt Dillion" on "GUNSMOKE" several years later.
Seen it before but worth watching again. A good story with outstanding performances. A series of bad events brings about some good. Don't want to spoil it but the ending was not what one would expect. Thanks DPB.
@tiredlawdog I've sadly grown bored, especially knowing my time frame was only from 1925-about 1945 tops. But at least I did add about 10 movies (and otherwise unknown to me, great actors) to my previously only known faves that began with Penny Serenade, The Shop Around the Corner and Rear Window.
From Cebu City, Philippines an Americano enjoyed the movie of some of my favorite stars including the Mexicano's who reminded me of my friends from Texas and south of the border I used to see so long ago.
Very enjoyable and relaxing movie. The village in Mexico completely pulled me in. I wanted to live there too. The ending was surprising. However, the final ending was disappointing to say the least.
Arnie is Jack Elam - played a lot support roles / bit parts in movies. James Best at very end - most famous as Sheriff Roscoe in Dukes of Hazard. Rock Hudson in cameo appearance.
Good movie, interesting and gripping. As an English man I am always puzzled by Americans fleeing to Mexico who then stay in Mexico to be captured and returned back. Why dont they leave Mexico and go to South Africa, Botswana, Thailand, New Zealand for a stress free new life.
FYI - Mason registered as a conscientious objector during World War II (causing his family to break with him for many years), but his tribunal did not exempt him on the requirement for non-combatant military service, which he also refused. He appealed against that aspect of the tribunal's decision, but it became irrelevant once he was included in a general exemption for film work.
I know what you mean. I only discovered him a couple of years ago and have enjoyed everything he's been in. If I see a movie listing him in the credits I know its going to be good.
Cannon as a detective he also narrated The Fugitive, played as Jake and the Fat Man, lots more listed on google but we all gathered around the telly for Cannon no talking or dad would look at us lol
Cannon was in the 70's. He drove a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. A big man and boat of a car. But, in my opinion, his big moment was in The Killers 1946. Watch it and you'll see why.
Welcome. No. I am not related to Cornell Borchers. Both my mother and father were born in Ohio as second generation Americans right around the same time that Cornell Borchers was born in Lithuania. The story passed down on my father's side was that our family surname was shortened on Ellis Island.
Dan Duryea, William Conrad, a deadly cross-country chase, a complicated They Live By Night-like romance, literally a banger climax and a punishingly ironic finale...you know what all this means, don't you? Noir heaven! The unique touch here is that the familiar crime movie component of the disgraced doctor who patches up the mob takes center stage...and as to be expected, James Mason lends tremendous gravity, poignancy and even tragedy to the role. As he and girlfriend Maria Toren flee to Mexico, he develops a relationship with the villagers that's similar to that formed between Walter Huston and the natives in Treasure of the Sierra Madre...and it's here that this nearly 75-year-old flick gains surprising relevance today. With the issue of other countries supposedly sending their criminals to the US and our letting them in, you can always show people this picture and say, "Hey! It works both ways!". 7/10.
Johnny doesn't like fowl language in the pressence of Laura. I guess Dan Duryea plays more of an emotional crimminal in this one. Doc shook him to his core, it's like Johnny's face almost fell off when Doc said he was taking Laura too.
Hooray! I watched this movie a couple of years ago, loved it but could never remember the name and _viola_ here we are!

These new digital 'prints' are incredible.

Early Roy Fitzgerald.
1 line, and 1 minutes screen time.
Still finding his way.

Good movie, enjoyed watching, thanks.
This must have been the shortest role Rock Hudson ever played!
Ha! Glad you enjoyed it!

Great movie. The ending was a surprise!

Outstanding acting and story.
Glad you like it. Welcome.
after watching Dan Duryea in 1949's TOO LATE FOR TEARS (with noir queen Lizabeth Scott) I became a fan

Great movie with two of my favorites, James Mason and Dan Duryea. Too bad about James getting killed at the end tho.
Thanks for that
The were two greats, indeed. Thanks for watching.
Very enjoyable and relaxing movie. The village in Mexico completely pulled me in. I wanted to live there too. The ending was surprising. However, the final ending was disappointing to say the least.
They had appointments to keep.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

En muchas películas Dan Duryea trabajó de actor secundario, siempre su desempeño fué excelente. Hizo que la película fuera muy recomendable.
Roger that. Welcome.
thank you😊
Welcome.
I wasn't expecting that ending!!!
Thanks for watching.
Excellent actors excellent movie❤
Glad you enjoyed it. Welcome.

Good point. Thanks for the visit!
You can drive a car to Mexico
Because at that time you didn't need a passport to enter Mexico.
It's pretty obvious that the censorship taking place at that time didn't allow them to "get away with it". Great movie, though.
Roger that. Welcome.
James Mason...a good man...

Very Good !⚘️
Glad you like it. Welcome.
Luv James Mason . British Actors are so classy .
Roger that. Welcome.
Worth watching!🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always liked Dan Duryea. England, August, 2024.
Always liked both male stars. Aug 2024 🇺🇸
Apparently he was a really nice guy, the opposite of his onscreen persona.
He was great on Bonanza too.
I know what you mean. I only discovered him a couple of years ago and have enjoyed everything he's been in. If I see a movie listing him in the credits I know its going to be good.
He’s really good in “The Burglar” as well
William Conrad had his own show in the 60s ? A cop or detective ? Who noticed a bit part briefly, Rock Hudson as a truck driver 😮
Cannon as a detective he also narrated The Fugitive, played as Jake and the Fat Man, lots more listed on google but we all gathered around the telly for Cannon no talking or dad would look at us lol

Rock hudson and James Best both in early uncredited roles.
Roger that. Welcome.
Thanks Donald... BTW are you related to Cornell Borchers?
I was wondering that as well.
@@agnesgooch459 Auntie Mame is one of my favorite movies

Great story, action, love, greed

This is a good action movie.

Not necessarily a happy ending but does have a clear ending
James Mason was a serial killer by the end of the movie!
