When Dan stands there in his unit and does his hair with his hand says a lot about the character he plays. He was brilliant

I did not expect this at all. What a brilliantly written movie! This one is worth watching more than once, there's so much going on. I read in its Wiki that contemporary audiences were too confused by it. But they lived before Robert Altman came around.
    Great stuff.

Always loved Duryea's eagerness and enthousiasm to play the oily, slippery and pseudo cheerful bad guy, who always gets punished in the end... Not one bad movie !

      Most Aries men are gorgeous.
I am a Libra and I was always drawn to them. They were mysterious but an affair with hhdm was a continuous fight.

In real life Sterling Hayden was a weasel: to save his career, he sold people out as communists to HUAC in 1951.

Whenever a movie called for someone sleazy, but not too bright, the producers usually gave Dan Duryea a call. Something about him that could not be trusted....just too good to be true.

Sterling Hayden eating spaghetti again? You would think he would have learned his lesson from another movie.

@@lindaweber5599 I think the reference is to The Godfather. But that was 25 years later, in another life, and who doesn't like spaghetti.

God I love film noir!!! I've seen many and fortunately they keep coming out of the woodwork. A great loss to the world when the Golden Age of Hollywood ended by the late 1950s. It was a time from the forties through most of the fifties when forty piece incredible musicians played those beautiful fiery violin staccato soundtracks that enhanced the performances...the old classic cars with whitewall tires...America has missed so much with lousy movie making today.
