I hope to get my trapping license and make things like blankets, rugs, clothes from the skins I get. Very nice blanket! Nice to see something so beautiful.
Since coyotes are a nuisance species you can kill them year round without a permit except you can't kill them with any weapons on Sunday so you can get a coyote blanket
Very cool, I can't believe your wife doesn't want a blanket! I told my husband, I want to make some Game of Thrones cloaks, cause it's too cold here in Upstate NY.
I love it! I’m a girl and I LOVE it! Nothing has changed in hundreds of years,. We want the same thing. A Good hunk of man and what he can provide for us❤️✨
As a tailor and a trapper, I'm wondering what pattern they use to make the blanket. I'm assuming its as simple as a long rectangle shape that comes out of the top side of the hides. The bellies aren't good for anything really. And all the yotes had better be at least of a certain size. But whew, if you had to pay to get all those tanned AND have the blanket made, the price would probably be more than just buying a fur blanket somewhere new.
I haven’t been able to stomach potentially selling hides I have skinned. I have some goat and deer pelts, and if I take a coyote first thing I’ll try and do with it is get it made, or make it into a mountain man style hat, legs and all 😅
Can you do double sided fur? Or would that be like bad quality or too difficult? And do you know if Kansas coyotes are any good quality? I wanna try this, but this would be my first time ever hunting or using fur, so I wanna know if I should hunt or buy. The coyotes get killed anyway so I can protect my cows calves and such, but it would be cool to be able to use their fur too
I am not expert on garment and fur but I don’t think you can do double sided. I think it would be great to use the fur that you harvest and you can use the fur from coyotes you shoot. Depending on the weapon used they mink need to do a small amount of sewing
@@trappingtheozarks23 awesome, thank you so much! And my last question, does the fur make the blanket heavy? Because the absolute most comfortable thing I can think of is a big, fluffy, heavy fur blanket and if I can get that while I watch a movie and chill, I’ll be living the best life
Beavers would make an amazing blanket and with only the castle being worth any money, seems like a great use of the fur. I would have used beaver if I had access to them
Have you ever slept “under” that blanket? I’m trying to find some comments on if its nicer than a feather comforter or not. Now that my feather duvet is due to be replaced, I was thinking about buying a sheepskin blanket instead, but wondering if it’ll be too hot and/or too heavy. For those hotter nights, i figured using it wool side up would be a bit cooler too. Anyone able to comment?
I sleep under fur most of the time and love it. It does depend on the backing, fleece vs cotton etc but I find that it is warm and breathes really well
Cool video. Just getting into coyote hunting and was curious what you do with the hide after skinning them. Do you tan them yourself? If so is it a hard process?
After skinning I flesh and the dry and stretch the pelt. Most I sell but some I send off to get tanned and then sell them. I have tanned pelts myself but the quality is not the same as professional tanning. I generally use Mink and Moyle
There are companies that sell them, but they are generally very expensive, your best bet is to find a trapper that has the fur and have them make one for you or use their fur to get one made. If you have your own fur, then even better and will cut the cost down even more.
Check out fenzofurs on eBay...great fur blankets for reasonable prices...full skin blankets as well as blankets made from pieces...they are located in Greece
Can you do a video on how you sewed the back part of the blanket to the fur? I was asked to make a baby blanket out of a fox, and I'm unsure of how to do the back. TIA
I did not sew the blanket together, USA Fox and Fur did that, I caught the fur, skinned it, fleshed it, boarded it, dried it and sent to them for the rest.
I hope to get my trapping license and make things like blankets, rugs, clothes from the skins I get.

She loves the blanket now, think she was just a bit nervous about it as she grew up in the city and was not sure what to make of it.
@@trappingtheozarks23 gotcha... I get it. Some people even get scared that weirdos will attack them, and throw red paint on them.

Interesting and I like it
That looks pretty awesome there thanks for sharing
Thank you
That is really nice . Excellent use of fur during these low price years. Thank you sharing this and god luck this season. God bless brother!
Thank you for the kind words. Good luck and God bless you and be careful out there in these crazy times

Coyote fur blankets sell from 1500 to 2000 depending on the size, so this is much, much cheaper.
Off topic. I see your state trooper sign in the background. Any advice for the academy?
You have a really nice blanket there sir. I appreciate the usefulness of the furs you gathered. One question, How do you clean something like this?
You would have to probably have it cleaned as a dry cleaners. I have not had to clean mine yet, try to be careful with it

It does not make it so heavy that it is uncomfortable but it is a nice, comfy, warm, heavy blanket
@@trappingtheozarks23 awesome, thanks man! I’m definitely gonna try to make one now
Great idea. I think I might do that blanket. Mostly Watts I trap and have is foxes and beavers, might try it with one of those critters.

Beavers and muskrats make awesome blankets.
What kind of investment would be needed?

Is this warmer than a sable? How much does it weigh
That is awesome. Can't wait to see the vest when it comes in. Good luck on the trap line this year.
Thank you, good luck to you as well
how many coyotes did it take?
eleven
Watch the video...
Not counting your ammo, would love to know just how much you have in that awesome blanket bottom line!
To get it completed cost me around 500
How many coyote did it take to make that size blanket?

Excellent
If you make them for a living it honestly couldn’t hurt to sell them
How do you wash a real fur blanket?
Where can I buy a fur blanket

Could I buy a big blanket made of coyote from you??
Unfortunately not as I do not make them
i wana buy something like this but i can't find anything like this
What are you looking for ?
I just purchased a bison fur blanket. No idea how to wash/clean it. Any ideas? Thank you!
That’s a great question, wish I could help you, but have no idea
Dry clearers is your safest option
Take it to a reputable furrier, not a dry cleaners.
is there anywhere i can get pants, hat and coat made?
There are several places, USA Fox, R&R Trading Post and others
@@trappingtheozarks23 thank you!
Where do I buy one
How much did that cost to get made?
$600 not counting the fur
Is there anyway to wash it?
You would probably have to take it to a cleaners
How can I purchase some dried untanned hides?? I'm in NC.
I save some tanned fur that I can sell, what are you interested in purchasing?
I would love a coat..
Fur is amazing
That is really cool looking bro
Thank you sir
I would love one
That is really a cool blanket, thanks for sharing
Glad you like it, would highly recommend one
love the blanket...hoping to get one made as well.
You will love it
Where can we get this made?
I had that one made at USA Fox and Fur. Do good work but slow. There are also other places to get them done
That's really beautiful... I'd love to have one on my bed
If you dont mind me asking, what did it cost to have made?
Blanket was about 600
@@trappingtheozarks23 thank you for the reply, that's a quite reasonable price for something so unique

Glad you like it, you should get it done and show us the results
Who did you use to make that?? That's very neat!
USA Fox and Fur, but there are other places too. USA Fox does good work but very slow
@@trappingtheozarks23 I will have 14 total coyotes I'm having tanned at moyle. Do they sew them with the fur running the same direction.
I had my sewn all running the same direction. My blanket is more of a throw blanket and took 12 coyotes
