I'm glad someone actually has a video on this scope (almost no one i've met/seen in person has touched one) - I only wish you'd perform more with the scope like cmp/ckp, ignition, o2, any general 5v ref sensor, preview how the triggerr graphic performed. I say this knowing the purpose of the video was to give your feedback on this being worth it's value.
Excellent perspective. The statement at 1’30” is the most important perspective. Good job. More techs should be familiar with using scopes even if not an everyday tool. That knowledge should still be there
Hi only just getting into using a scope in the automotive trade I have used the pico 2 times .I like the way the pico has a drop down box to automatically help you pic what your testing and the type of wave fom you should be looking for does this do the same .
How did u configure the hantek 1008c?
Can you use 8 channels in one application for example troubleshooting a vehicle? I hope you can answer my question.

im a diy automotive hobby fist time oscilloscope buyer and narrowed down to hantek 1008c or hantek hendheld 2c42 (or used 2d42 that has waveform generator)

The scope does have a built in screen record feature to make up for it only having 4K of buffer memory. So you can zoom in to the time base you want then take a long capture then play back a review. Just be sure to have what ever auto measure you want displaying as it can't make any changes.
Can you show how this recording feature works? Maybe show a link? If able to save more than 4K, this will be worth it.
Well my scope is at work and it's a 3 day weekend.
But consider this,the Pico automotive scope has a buffer memory of 250M which is amazing. You can zoom out to a larger time base do a long capture then zoom in and analyze the waveform. But you won't touch a 4ch 4425 for less then $900 the scope alone with nothing else.
So with the Hantek's screen record feature it works just like a regular screen recorder. You zoom in to the time base you want let's day 500us if you're doing CAN BUS run it on auto trigger and there's an icon to initiate screen record. Start your recording then drive the vehicle until the fault happens. You can now playback the recording and see what happend to your signal. As far as I know it can record an infinite amount of video since it just stores it to a file on the C drive I've taken 10 minute recording but I'm sure you can go way way longer. And it gives you a playback speed option so you can just fast forward looking for your glitch or anomaly

@@sargetester99 sorry I was referring to IF you're lucky enough you can grab a used on off Ebay for that price. As most start at around $1200.
Also look into the Pico 2205 and 2405. They are not automotive based but you can modify the software to run pick automotive. Still only has a believe 48K or less of buffer. But they also start at $200 us

Been thinking about getting a scope and was looking at the Hantek as a Pico is out of my price range. Was looking at the 2 channel and this 8 channel. 2 channel can be had for about $65 and the 8 channel for under $100 on Ebay.
the 6022be aint set up for automotive,get the 1008c, i got both,the smaller good for low voltage only

Lloyd Maxwell Jr You can buy test lead reels that unwind and wind back up by a hand knob. They extend out to about 12 feet. Most tool trucks will have them on board.
Thanks for posting a review. My question for you: Can I reliably probe all 6 plugs +PLUS+ the Crank Pos Sensor or TDC sensor and still get good waveform resolution? I read that it has 2.4 million samples per second, but that's probably divided up among all the leads. That seems like a lot of resultion to see finer details. The image on your screen looks very low resolution. Is this because you just didn't zoom in? There is more detail than that, right?
I have used it up to 5 channels. It does seem to lose some of its resolution. Depending on what you are doing I believe it would still be fast enough to catch your problem.

Ademas le hace falta el modo x-y que junto con un curve tracer es tan util para probar por ejemplo las bobinas de encendido de 4 alambres, salidas de drivers de las PCM para los inyectores o bobinas de ignición, etc, etc, etc. El Hantek 1008
tiene un delay de 2 segundos aproximadamente. Ayer revise una van Chrysler Town and Country que se apagaba intermitentemente. Revise los cam and crankshaft position sensors en idle y estaban bien, cuando acelere el motor, igual, se veían bien. Luego hice lo mismo con el Verus de Snapon y pude ver la falla en ambos sensores en altas RPMs. Cambie los dos sensores y se arreglo el problema.
@@gonzalohernandez88 Tienes razón la tasa de respuesta es baja pero es un equipo básico muy bueno ya que si comparas en precio con el snap on pues nada que ver, el antiguo si efectivamente tiene modo XY el nuevo modelo según el fabricante es exactamente el mismo hardware con otra carcasa, hasta donde se por la respuesta que me dieron, no estaba enterado que la función XY ya no estuviera presente sin eso ya no es lo que esperaba, puesto que por un poco más de inversión se puede conseguir un osciloscopio de mayor capacidad de respuesta, desde mi punto de vista el XY era el plus de este osciloscopio por el precio. Hay un nuevo Modelo de Hantek un portátil, 3 en 1 osciloscopio, multimetro y generador de señal sería bueno probarlo tiene 70Mhz de ancho de banda. Es el 2D72.
Para mi el scope Snap-On solo es rapido, carece de las funciones matemáticas y X-Y, para mi tan necesarias. El Hantek 1008 me ha sacado de apuros en muchas ocaciones cuando dispuse solo del scanner Ethos de Snapon. @@carlosvallejo4326

I have never used a scope but have done enough research and had enough situations in the shop where I needed one. I can’t afford a pico at this time but if this hantek can do the job short term maybe I can show my shop the need to for a quality scope.
Check out the Pico 2205A its $200 usd. I would go with that instead because of the fact this scope can not AC couple. So there are some test that you must be AC coupled like alternator ripple test
Plus the rumor is you can hack the Pico6 automotive software to run the non automotive scope
we found out the leads are to short. not much info after that. I see a save button that might let you go back and look at and a R button that might be a record. too bad you did not click on any of these to see what they are.
What model of pico do you have? which one would you recommend near this price range?
I have the 4425 soon to be upgrading to 4425a. If you plan on using it for automotive get the 4425 basic and add as you go.

I just subscribed and have enjoyed your Hantek videos so far. I just bought a Hantek 1008C and for the life of me can not get it to show any signals. I tried it for reading a CAN bus and nothing. I went to the alternator and still no signal. I'm sure I'm missing something here so I will keep watching more videos to see if there is a clue to why this scope is driving me crazy! :)
I have 1008c. Works very good for CAN. Just use the build in automotive pre sets.

Wow so is it bullshit ?
Overall this is a usable scope and is very effective if used correctly. We as auto techs are often trapped in this mentality that if it isnt the best and most expensive its completely useless. I began using scopes as a mechanic in the Army when I walked into the electronics/radio room and borrowed their Fluke 4ch oscilloscope to look at the inductive spike from a Humvee fuel injection pump shut off solenoid because it was dropping out intermittently. The Army does not teach troubleshooting and doesn't teach scope usage on vehicles. I actually got the idea from watching a video that talked about fuel injector inductive spike.
Point is whether it's the Pico scope or this Hantek or a scoped used for electronics if you use it correctly or will work within its designed limits. I would promote this Hantek as a great beginners scope so if you screw up and kill it you're out $100.. not $1200..
But like everything else it has limitations that's often dictated by its cost so be sure to research and understand what it can and cannot do.
Thank you toolhut for making a very non biased and realistic video about this scope and making techs who are on a tight budget aware that there are more afforble options available but will have some limitations. Now that the cooler weather is coming in I plan on doing some more real application videos with the Hantek and maybe the Pico 2205a
Comparing a very expensive PicoScope to a Hantek? Why not PicoScope against MicSig?
So I can't use the leads with this oscilloscope ?? cause picoscope leads is expensive

sigrok and openhantek do not support this scope, please correct me if Im wrong as I have a tiny linux laptop which would be better than the huge windows laptop I have! I dont find the supplied Hantek software that bad thou.
@@iang4817 sigrok always producing updates to software, adding new scopes to the usability list on a regular basis, so check back often and look for your scope in the list.

I stated after you get a decent set of leads expect to have 5-600 invested. Also strongly suggest low amp clamp to go with it
the leads are junk, 4ou f 8 came loose at alligator end .but for a beginner its an ok scope

Not a good review, have downvoted. We learnt the leads are too short but you don't really know anything else about this scope and even if it can trigger or save waveforms.
Here's what I think. You haven't instructed anybody on how to actually use the machine in a live situation.. You need to review me your material before you put it on TH-cam.. I don't care about leads I'm a technician I know I can get more leads why are you wasting my time .
