- Distortion World Giratina decides to shine at only half odds, very happy. This is a very special shiny as I adore the Distortion World. It's by far my favourite place in the entire series. Every time I replay Platinum I'm always in awe at just how different and unique this area this. Therefore, I'm very happy with my Giratina from there.

NO you are not being overly cautious, my shiny giratina almost wiped out my whole team I thought I was prepared but it was just too strong I got the nature I wanted but have to settle with the Master ball too
It's been ages since I caught him but if memory serves me right giratina really wasn't that hard at least for me
this really happened, i bet.
A Master Ball was meant for moments like that. Shiny Legendaries and other rare Pokémon

I really wasn't prepared for my shiny giratina. It appeared after 17 soft resets and captured on 5 th turn with ultra ball. It was really the best luck in my Pokemon history
I was 7 when I played Platinum and I legit got Shiny Giratina my first playthrough it was amazing.

Platinum was also my first Pokemon game, I was around 8. I did not understand English though, so I just did whatever and came through. But I also didn't understand the concept of the Master Ball so I literally wasted it on a Starly of lvl4

I recently had to use a Masterball on shiny Lugia in Soulsilver. This makes me feel a little better knowing that even really good hunters sometimes have bad luck with the catching. Good luck on future hunts!
Thanks, and yes, this was quite unfortunate. There's an 8% chance of capture when Giratina has one HP and has a status condition. Considering I through over 40 Dusk Balls, it was unlucky it didn't catch. Good luck to you too!

Also my first shiny was a Bidoof in Platinum. Then a Helioptile in Y version. Hunting for a Mild Giratina in Alpha. (Current: ~100 SR's.)

@@b_oath because you only have one master ball per savefile? Duskballs have even a better chance at catching pokemon at dark enviroments than the ultra balls so thats why

Well you can still shiny hunt Zekrom and Reshiram in Black and white 2 so it stopped around gen 6

At the end of the day, you do not collect a shiny of every Pokémon. You collect a shiny of your _favorite_ Pokémon.
Shiny Giratina is the first and only hunt I'm ever going to attempt, cause Platinum and Giratina are very important to me being the gen I grew up with. I didn't think I'd actually commit to it at first, but I'm at around 585 SRs sooo I think I'm in this for the long haul. Vids like these have been very inspiring :D
Edit: GUYS I DID IT HOLY *SHIT* XD About a day after I wrote this comment I reached 1,022 SR's and CAUGHT the friggin thing. My hands are shaking x_x I was prepared to be doing this for so much longer, damn I was lucky!!

@@bagelgod946 IKR!? XD Well technically, it was probably closer to 1,122 because I wasn't counting my SR's when I first started. Bad move on my part. Either way, I doubt I'll get this lucky again if I decide to hunt something else.

Major Congrats Steve! I never get tired watching shiny Giratina in Distortion World, it's the best place to capture it because the stage, the music and it's original form make a perfect combination for an epic capture :) It sucks that you had to use masterball to capture it and I know you did your best to capture without the mb but sometimes we have to use it otherwise we would fail the capture making us start over again, so don't worry about it :) For me, this is a dream shiny and I cannot wait to get one of my own so I can witness it's magnificence and majestic appearence on my screen at that place :D Good luck on your next shiny hunts ;)

I'm currently hunting for this bad boy in my Platinum game!! I'm around 8,500 resets and I'm holding onto the hope that he comes home soon. I love watching your videos--they make me motivated to keep trying no matter the odds!

This has made me want to have a go at doing a legendary shiny hunt myself! There's no way I'd ever attempt it without a Master Ball in my bag, though. I don't think there's any shame at all in using a Master Ball on a shiny legendary - the real achievement is in the patience required when soft-resetting. I would most likely use my Master Ball on the first turn - otherwise I would be terrified of making a mistake and losing the shiny forever!

@@usermcskull4713 also if you have a few cartridges you can accumulate them if you restart saves often. I’ve done a few National dexes and restarted my gen 3 and 4 games a handful of times, so I’ve got a small reserve of master balls that I saved for emergencies

Had been shiny hunting this Pokemon for three days, all day and finally got one the day I saw this video
I really have to congratulate with you, your preparation is perfect: perfect moveset high level smeargle, great amount of balls, keeping track of the number of moves he used to prevent the struggle, and to finish, a master ball available just in case. I often watch videos with shiny fails because they can actually be fun, but for most of them i just get frustrated for how bad those people are prepared, like they actually want to lose the shiny

I like preparation honestly. I'm disappointed that this didn't actually get in a non-Masterball but it motivated me to complete the Sinjoh Ruins trio in HG/SS with my level 1 Giratina.

I know it's been 3 years since this video, but this is my favorite shiny encounter that you've done. I wanted to hunt my own Giratina and I used your method to finally catch it after 2,357 encounters. I also, was able to catch it in a Dusk ball like I wanted even though it was close. I thank you for the knowledge. Now it's time for Darkrai.

@@FizzyFizze Not all shiny hunts take that long. I got a shiny Treecko in Ruby in just 30 soft resets. Sometimes you can just get really lucky.
Azelf and some times they take WAY longer... I’ve gone upwards of two years of on and off hunting one shiny...

A bit late but i was watching your video a few minutes ago after starting to hunt for Giratina, i was about to close for today after i was gonna hit 100 SRs, and i got the shiny at 99 SRs which is a first for me to get it that early. Quirky nature, and guess what, i had to masterball it too! My roselia was supposed to set it paralyzed, but giratina ended being poisoned due to poison point xd i guess your video brought me luck! :^)
Congrats dude! This legendary shiny is very pretty. In my platinum playthrough, I decided to go for giratina now that I'm at the distortion world. I've already been soft resetting for like 2 hours so wish me luck. But a huge surprising lucky thing happened to me while I was at Mt.Coronet, I noticed my pokemon had pokerus!

Thanks. The closest I get to reduced odds hunts are masuda method hunts, usually pre Gen VI though. Phione is on my channel in 4th Gen, Zorua will be soon in 5th Gen.

Just came across this for motivation. I only recently got into shiny hunting. My first was a Totodile for Soul Silver. I reset on a shiny at around 2000 resets then had to do another 3000 for the recover. The game then showed some mercy on me and gave me shiny Lugia on the first reset. I'm now hunting a shiny dragons den Dratini in SS while playing platinum. Shiny Giratina will be my next hunt! Congrats to you on getting it!

@@arnemaiori1017 Entirely depends how much you're doing it / how much you're paying attention etc. For me with Totodile the first one was 4 days worth of resets a few hours a day. After I reset on the shiny it was another week. I just did it while watching films or on the way to work or basically any time I didnt have to be paying 100% attention to something.

Each reset takes roughly 26 seconds to reveal Giratina to see if you encountered a shiny or not, multiply 26 by 4252 gives you 110,552 seconds, translate those seconds into minutes and you get 1842.5333 rounding up to 1843. 1843 minutes translating to hours is 30.7166667, or simply 30.7 hours. *It took this guy a full day, and 6 hours, 40 minutes to find this Giratina.* Amazing.

I'm aware of this trick, it's very useful, you're right. The problem with it whilst fighting Giratina in this case is Smeargle has to be Level 70 due to how many badges you can have at this point in the game. Due to the low level, Smeargle does not stand very well against Giratina's attacks. Spore + Foresight + Super Fang/False Swipe are mandatory due to Giratina's typing too. I could have perhaps used a 2nd Smeargle with a different move set though. Upon preparing for this hunt however, I was pretty confident that I would be able to capture it using Dusk Balls anyway as it's not too bad in terms of catch rate. I think honestly I was just unlucky this time round. I will absolutely be using this trick for Groudon and other captures though, merci.
