- An absolute DREAM shiny to get in its Origin Forme in the Distortion World! Took a lot of prep, but it was so worth it to see this thing shine!

The Smeargle tutorial was highly appreciated! Catching legendaries reliably in the older games can be really hard.

Holy freaking shinx guys, shiny Jiratina didn’t permanently freeze this time. Yup you guessed it… character development.
For smeargles I like soak over odor sleuth/foresight, because, it removes the ghost typing, it gives the net ball and increased catch rate, it removes the opponents stabs, and it allows grass types to be hit with spore
Soak is definitely the better play! it just didn't exist until Black and White
Excellent video! You’re one of the only TH-camrs I know that can turn such a common shiny hunt into an engaging video! You do a great job building a story around all your hunts with things like the smeargle guide!
Massive congrats on one of the coolest shiny legends! Also I love how you're using a camcorder for your hunts, always brings me back to the old days of TH-cam where everyone recorded their consoles like that. And honestly? It's super cool being able to see your consoles as well. Perfect example that capture cards are not a "must have".
The smeargel guide feels so random for one of these videos but I respect it.
Oh yeah, that's a useful guide! I'm definitely going for Giratina in a cool ball when I get out of Eterna Forest. (Trying to get 1 shiny of each evo line, so I'll be a long time there.)
I'm going to make a similar Smeargle, minus the false swipe or the super fang, replaced with trick + Leppa berry. It worked really well for me with Moltres in FireRed!
The thing that I absolutely love about your videos is that you take the time to explain your process and methodology with the hunt itself. This journey and setup could arguably be more exciting and thrilling than the outcome you ultimately are trying to produce.
Its moments like this others get to see how your mind works. You’ve do an incredible job engaging the audiences that want to see and hear these types of break downs. I’m one such viewer that really appreciates it.

Bro, I had this very similar setup all ready and going for the past 4 months, assuming I'd be the first on TH-cam to get in a non Master Ball back in January. And then I see that you beat me to it! The orgin Giratina is actually my fastest full odds hunt yet with it appearing after only 27 SRs!! Glad you got yours too this is definitely a shiny I want to hunt again someday.

I've got a Smeargle in Shining Pearl with False Swipe, Spore, Mean Look, and Soak. In hindsight, Super Fang's a great move to help with wearing down health...
I think soak is the better move here, still overcomes the ghost issue, while also allowing you to hit anything for neutral damage.
The inclusion of Pokemon Channel brought back so many childhood memories for me. I have to agree with Smeargle, your painting is... splendid. (And so is Gladys!)
Nice one, Giratina is one of my favorite shinies! I spontaneously decided to hunt for it last year during my Ledian solo run and got super lucky and caught it in my last Quick Ball right before it was going to start struggling!
Truly an amazing shiny, congratulations on the catch, Matt! Also I wish I knew this Heart Scale tactic. I grinded three Smeargles up to 41/51/61/etc to learn Sketch again. I never considered using the move tutor. It took three because I messed up with the first two!

Currently trying to teach my Smeargle in Crystal some capturing moves, and I thought of that EXACT Ditto method to do it, thought I was an absolute genius...... yeah turns out that doesn't work in GSC,,, Should have realized that if it was possible for GSC someone else would have discovered and suggested it by now.
Feeling bitter about it lol, but I'm glad to see it does work in later gens!! And congrats on the hunt!!!

@@thatdankguy5140 From what I can gather, there doesn't seem to be any reason except that it has been explicitly programmed to not work on Ditto, under any circumstances. I ASSUME they programmed it that way so Smeargle can't sketch transform, which could cause complications..... but why didn't they just program it so Transform specifically couldn't be sketched instead of making sketch fail on Ditto........ oh well,,,

Your Giratina does have a perfect Defense IV! It also has a 0 Sp.Def IV.
I had an epiphany the other day about the distortion world. The puzzle the three beings help you with mirrors their lake locations, in a triangle around the peak of mt coronet to bind the legendary there. Giratina's first portal happens at the top of mt coronet too. The distortion world really is a reflection of the real sinnoh region.
I come back to this every so often cuz I love these old-school hunts, plus Giratina's theme and shiny are both top-tier. Not entirely related but Ultra Sun was the first game I ever did soft reset hunts in, and that included a Giratina hunt. I was determined to catch that thing in a Beast Ball and I somehow did! ...I feel like I have no right to complain about bad luck ever again after that XD

So, funny enough, I actually got insanely lucky and my first time ever seeing Giratina (Altered) was it being shiny, on my buddies version of Platinum. He didn't mind and knew it would be a fresh playthrough. When I got there, saw the sparkles, I immediately threw a masterball and called him to let him know that this was *my* copy of Platinum now, and that I would just buy him another copy lol. Even if I could just trade it, I kept that copy for good luck. This was some time in 2012, and that copy is still in my possession lol.
Damn! I love Platinum but I never knew about that weird quirk with Giratina's shadow!

The fact that TWO major Giratina shiny hunts have screen froze makes me think that maybe the encounter style (The top down animation sprite style) may have something to do with how the sprite is loaded and causes that plus the shiny sparkles to… freeze? 🤔IDK. This isn’t based on anything legit, I’m just trying to figure out the correlation LOL. Maybe something to look into one day.
