Are they just dealing with European mares? No Rachel Alexandra, and no mention of Go For Wand who broke down in the stretch run of her Breeders Cup race. I've never seen a worse one. OR Ruffian who broke down in a match race against colt Foolish Pleasure.
My favourite performances are not in this video. Zenyatta her last race was the most impressive one in her career for me personal. And where's Rachel Alexandra? And please don't forget the world best 2 mares ever Ruffian and Kincsem (still holds the record of most unbeaten races 54 wins in 54 starts!) Second on the list is 25 unbeaten races by Black Caviar...
no one gave the chills Queen Zenyatta gave... from last to 1st stopping passing and accelarating again to top speed ...this horse was just supreme. Theres no comparison and im not talking about the results or the money they made or w/e. Im talking about the IMPACT of the horse and the WAY she won.
@@robertsmale3714 it said the 10 best race mares ever. Would you like me to name 20 better than Rachel Alexandra. Glorious Song for example. She spent most of her career beating colts like the great John Henry and Precisionist. Even gave the mighty Spectacular Bid a decent effort. Bayakoa is another. Her speed figures dwarf R.A. 2 time distaff Breeders cup champion. Should I go on?
Black Caviar was injured at Ascot and was having trouble stretching out. She still won of course, but if you check out some of her Australian runs, you'll see that see was much better than many people believe.
@@underscore2824 If you check her breeding you'll see that she has a double cross from Vain. You are right though, Vain was probably the best of the lot.
Graham Leadbeatter You'll see from the fact he brought up enable and Winx in a discussion about vain and black caviar that you are dealing with a troll. Waste of time responding. I never saw Vain but I believe BC is the best sprinter the world has seen at least for the past 50 years. Hard to compare Vain and BC as he did most of his great work at 2 and 3 and she didn't really hit the big time until she was 4/5.
@@elgransenor1472 She was unbeatable up to 6 furlongs. People argue that the great Frankel would have beaten her, and at 7 furlongs or longer I think they are right. but at 6 furlongs, I don't think so.
@@elgransenor1472 Yep, BC is the best sprinter I've seen in my 50 years on the planet. Frankel was the best miler (possibly of all-time). Frankel wins at 1400, BC wins at 1200.
Zenyatta would’ve left all them in the dust, I seen her run in Hollywood park, Del Mar, and Santa Anita, with a vintage mike smith ride I don’t believe anyone could beat her! “I am aware she lost her last race but making up 25 lengths and loosing by a nose” Sesh wow
Not a chance. Please remember she ran almost exclusively on polytrack, which was the fad for a bit, and only twice IIRC on real dirt. Polytrack turned out to be more equivalent to turf running. Next, she ran but twice against males. Yes, she did very well in BCC which is supposed to be tops, but still only twice out of many. And BCC/KYDerby/etc? Too often these races allow no-account horses; I've always been aggravated by that, if they're restricted, how do these hardly-allowance horses get in?
Gallorette, Busher, Miesque, Personal Ensign, Ta Wee, Makybe Diva, Trêve, Goldikova, Azeri, Mom's Command, Princess Rooney, Maskette, Bayakoa, Go For Wand, La Prevoyante, All Along, Dahlia, Fashion, Bewtich, RUFFIAN, Shuvee, Cicada, and Imp, are just a few that should be considered as well.
Being closers was literally the only thing they had in common. Winx was basically a sprinter on grass and Zenyatta ran mostly 8 to 9 furlongs on dirt. They would’ve never met hun, even if they ran in the same country at the same time.
@@equusfemina1 You have mixed up champion sprinter Black Caviar with the middle distance queen Winx (who was, just like Zenyatta, a miler with most races in the 8-10 furlong range). Dirt is almost unknown in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
@awuma I never ever said Winx ran on dirt?? And I could never confuse the two great champions, Black Caviar was a clear sprinter. Winx was mostly middle distance, you’re right about that so I stand corrected...but if I recall correctly some of her earlier races were sprints. So I maintain my assertion that compared to Zenyatta she ran shorter distances as an average. Forgive me, please, it’s tricky to convert meters to furlongs and that’s mostly how we measure our races here in America.
Absolutely right about Zarkava being better than Goldikova, the Breeders cup made Goldikova a legend over there but not in Europe where there were one or two better than her
WINX is a true kind specialist because in her last ever race she won her 3rd Queens Elizabeth stakes and she has 33 wins in a row and she won the coxplate 4x in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018
WINX, DIva, Black Caviar, Zenny for sure...Beholder...of all of the in the video...I would say that WINX has been the most exciting in her sprinting finishes and for the LONGEST CAREER OF ALL!!
Black Caviar was the most dominant world champion mare of them all, 25 from 25 wins... she won year in and year out however plagued with injuries throughout her career that held her back from competing over the mile what a shame..won in Ascot on three legs beating French horse of the year in Moonlight Cloud... it took her 8 months to recover back home she would have been scratched however the pressure to run her was greater .she had a rating of 136 but no doubt in my mind she could have ran 140 plus if she wanted to..carried 20lb more than the Golden slipper winner in the Newmarket beating her with ease in a near world record over the 1200m the greatest sprinter of all time, I'm not sure any other mare in this top ten would rate best ever in the world at their pet distance as like Black Caviar would.
UK based assessment I'd say. They'll always put their horses on top. Same probably goes for lists compiled in other countries, they favour their horses.
@@marknorris1381 Kincsem was from Hungary not from England. The list is from Germany. So don't be so sceptical.... There's even a movie about her.... Oh and I'm Dutch... So...

@@marknorris1381 that's true indeed. I have noticed that particular American ppl only rate American horses as the best ever. They don't even know horses from Australia, Europe, Canada etcetera... Or they just don't want to know them, I don't know... If you make a list of the best race horses in the world you should also use the best race horses in the whole world, not just America... That's why I often react about Secretariat being the best ever. Just because he did won the triple crown and won with 30 lengths doesn't make him the best ever. It does make him a great race horse but definitely not the best ever... Imo...
the great thing about enable is that she has raced in all grounds, 4 different countries and can handle 1m2f to 1m4f...her versatility makes her the most decorative mare in history in my opinion
Winx is like the athlete or swimmer who wins multiple Commonwealth Games gold medals in record time but never wins an Olympic medal. Enable is like the swimmer or athlete who doesn't hold any world records but has 5 Olympic golds and 1 silver. That's why she's number one.
Alan McDonald European racing is different than in Australia. Had Enable raced in Australia she’d have had a far greater distance range and amassed many more wins. Still did not demonstrate enough pace to be able to compete with Winx up to 10F.
B Gardiner If Enable had raced in Australia there would have only been one suitable race to target as an older filly/mare, the BMW Tancred. She would have been weighted out of the Cups after winning multiple Oaks and probably the Aust Derby.
El Gran Senor with an Antipodeon preparation under her belt I think that even at a mile she would have dominated in Australia, Winx aside. And she would have been entered in those as lead up races. She was solid over 10F So races like the Cox Plate and the Queen Elizabeth would have been at her mercy... again, Winx aside.
If you check Zenyattas fastest time for the 1.25 at the Breeders cup on dirt is faster than Winx's fastest time for slightly less distance 2200 furlongs on grass. Dirt is much harder to win on. Also Makybe Dive should be much higher because she won the toughest race in Australia 3x. Something that may never be matched. Now here is the real top ten: 1 Zenyatta (No female will ever compete with her speed PERIOD. Like Secretariat she only gets faster each quarter and at the end of both BCC she was running over 40 MPH across the finish line) 2 Genuine Risk (only female to place 1st or 2nd in all triple crown races) 3 Lady's Secret (only horse to win 8 grade 1s in one season) 4 Ruffian (Legend) 5 Makybe Diva (3 Melbourne Cups) 6 Winx (Incredible 4 Cox plates and other records. But Cox plate and QE Stakes are less demanding than the Melbourne Cup. They should have raced her in either the Breeders Classic or Dubai Cup) 7 Rachel (best 3 year old filly season ever) 8 Black Caviar 9 Rags to Riches 10 Beholder
US doesn't time the race when the barriers open - only after a run-up which could be a variety of distances. US Times are a concoction therefore and not as fast as they publicize. Winx would beat her on class and her ability to win consistently over a variety of conditions. Note Winx's record in unrestricted competition.
I think this list goes by money earned. Like winx is the winner of over 18 million United States dollars. Where Zenyatta is over 7 million along with black caviar who has almost 8 million. Now like I don’t know for sure how much ruffian won but I don’t think it that much. Rachel Alexandra for example only has 3 million.
Keep in Mind that Makybe Diva won 3 melbourne cups in a row. Each race had 24 horses. Many of the others mainly raced in fields of less than half that. She also won at a massive range of distances and both handicap and weight for age (Reminiscent of the great Phar Lap). Simply incredible and deserved to be higher up on this list of greats. I loved Black Caviar but she only raced weight for age and only short distances.
The Melbourne Cup is a handicap, a race for the punters rather than for thoroughbreds. Makybe Diva won her first Melbourne Cup as a lightweight and was lightly weighted by the handicapper on her second and third wins. Makybe Diva only won at WFA when the great horses of that era, Sunline and Northerly, retired. Lonhro who was a top class horse but not in the same league as Sunline and Northerly, yet he smashed Makybe Diva by 5 lengths in the 2004 Australian Cup despite being severely checked twice on the home straight and Makybe Diva had a clear run. Makybe Diva went to Japan and was easily defeated in two races there finishing 7th on both occasions. Put Makybe Diva against world class opposition and she does not measure up.
@@WeirsBane She won 15 races at distances between 1400m and 3200m carrying weights up to 59.5Kg. Probably not a contender as her career is not as recent as those in the video, however, NZ mare Horlicks deserves a mention among these greats for her win in the 1989 Japan Cup in a world record time for 2400m. She won 6 G1s and defeated the likes of Bonecrusher, Super Impose and Vo Rogue over 2000m. Inducted into the NZ Hall of Fame. But its worthy to note that she carried 1kg over weight for age over 2 miles, an extremely rare feat for any horse. On that basis she deserves to be higher on this list.
WINX is the champion of champions, never have I seen a horse like her before. If you re a track goer I understand you a 100 percent. There is no true champ in horse racing. Even the almighty Secretariat was defeated not once but twice after his historic Triple Crown achievement. And he lost to mediocre horses. There are great horses that have run in different eras of Thoroughbred horse racing and no one can truly say one could’ve beaten all. If you’ve been a rail bird you know one thing for sure. There is no sure thing in horse racing.
Winx for sure along with her half sister Zenyatta but Ruffian has to be on this list she’s one of the top 10 horses of all time so how can this list not have her on it ???
Beat nobody? Seriously? She beat the Derby winner, Belmont winner, won the Preakness, almost broke the Haskell record (with a 116 Beyer!), AND won the Woodward. THREE wins over the boys. Broke Ruffian's Mother Goose record, turned the Kentucky Oaks into a joke. But sure, she didn't do anything. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Seriously, what did Winx have to do to be number 1 ???? 33 wins in a row, a world record 25 group 1's, 4 cox plates and 3 Queen Elizabeth's. You cannot be serious putting her at number 2.
Not to mention 90% of the time she cruised to the lead with hardly any vigor from the jock, Enable was hard ridden every race. Winx wouldve cruised past Enable..
Moniek Redhead yes you are right! I had never heard of Kincsem and her record is unbelievable so yes she was a true great mare and as for Ruffian I simply overlooked this great mare and yes again you are right both amazing horses.
You have to have Ruffian, Winx, Zenyatta and Black Caviar on a best girls list, not necessarily in that order, that you can debate until hell freezes over, but to have this list without those 4 it’s a incomplete list! All 4 were unbelievable horses! The other 6 spots, there’s so many that you can make a case for to be on it but you have to leave some out, it just depends on what impresses you to fill it out
Not current enough I guesss, also only one dirt horse on there. Winning Colors, Beholder and even Song bird neded consideration. They probably weren't even on the drawing board.
Get your facts right. Kincsem is the world record holder with 54 wins out of 54 starts. Second on that list is Black Caviar with 25 wins out of 25 starts. Winx isn't unbeaten 😉
John Jarvis I've watched them all. Who was that stiff competition? Egg Tart? Invictus Prince? Youngstar? D'Argento? Who Shot the Barman? Red Excitement? Trap for Fools? Horses like Happy Clapper, Humidor and Hartnell are second rate. She didn't need to make them look second rate, they are.
I have seen Winx win from positions that were impossible , while Black Caviars raving style and pattern where she would settle better than mid field then pour the pressure on and then simply lengthen stride made her simply unbeatable remember the trainer said if the royal ascot race was in Australia she would have been scratched as she had a high grade muscle tear remember Moonlight Cloud went on to absolutely dominate euro sprinting and became euro sprinter of the year
ag fresh Moonlight Cloud went on to absolutely dominate European sprinting? Did she? To the best of my memory her greatest performances were over 1300-1600m in France. Not sure she ever won a Group One race at 1000 or 1200m. She was actually probably a 1400-1600m horse who was also just fast enough to be effective over1300 and a very testing 1200 but she was hardly a dedicated specialist sprinter.
ag fresh Yeah but she's hardy a "true" sprinter is she? She never won a Group One over 5 or 6f. That award was for performances over 1300-1400. She didn't dominate European sprinting because she didn't even run in the biggest 5/6f sprint races. You'd call her a sprinter-miler in Australia.
Black Caviar deserves number 1 spot with Minding number 2 . Zarkava - Pebbles - Ruffian - Dahlia - Tryptych - Allez France - Humble Duty, shall I go on?
Maybe you could’ve made a case for Enable before she lost on the 6th of October, but now there is no doubt Winx is the greatest we have seen. Her record says it all
Harry Curtain Her record of beating Humidor, Happy Clapper, Hartnell over and over again? And what, her multiple losses at 3 just don't count? We ignore them?
Winx was the biggest fish in a very small pond. She may have been a big fish in the big pond but you'll never know. You Aussies can guess what she might have done or rave about her sectionals but you're just dreaming and wishing. She never proved it.

I agree that from 2016 to 2017 Winx was the best horse in the world at 7-10f but I'm still not sure that puts her in the top ten of all time let alone the greatest of all time according to the original post here.
They should ALL be locked in at #1. Good luck to the genius who can come up with a formula that differentiates between nations, track conditions and surfaces, climate, distance, weights etc.
None of the above compare to Dawn Run! She is the only horse (never mind mare) to win the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle (1984) and Cheltenham Gold Cup (1986) double. She had guts! Her Gold Cup victory was the best finish I've ever seen. She was only 15.2hh. Her statue now proudly stands in Cheltenham racecourse.
Keith Gould Exultant is just another version of Benbatl or Beauty Generation. A dominant performer in second tier racing jurisdictions. Dare I say it, much like Winx. She was just more dominant than them but the level of competition was not dissimilar.
Keith Gould I think you put too much stock in this Hong Kong and Dubai form. Granted, it's higher quality racing than Australia but the horses that perform there virtually never measure up the following season in Europe.

@@underscore2824 love winx too!.... but you can't tell me Winx would have done what Zenyatta did in both breeders cups and if Zenyatta were a grass course she would have been much faster
Here's an interesting comparison Enable vs Winx. Across 2018/2019 Winx ran 11 times in 10 Group one races. The rating of her best opponent in those races ranged from 115-123. Four times there was not a 120 rated horse in the race. Only once in those 11 races were there 2 X 120 rated opponents in the same race. Across 2018/2019 Enable ran 7 times in 6 Group Ones. The rating of her best opponent in those races ranged from 122-128. Enable never ran in a race without a 122 rated horse in it. Four of those seven times there were 2 or more opponents rated 122+ I'm not saying Enable is better than Winx. I think Winx is the better horse overall. But Enable certainly raced harder opponents and more of them more often. It's impossible to know whether Enable would have handled Moonee Valley but I'm sure if Enable took Winxs place in the Turnbull and QE Stks in 2017/2018/2019 she would have clearly beaten Kluger, Youngstar, Gailo Chop and Ventura Storm over 2000 at Flemington and Randwick.
As always, I love the north-south banter. The top 5 look pretty much spot on. There'll never be a winner in the Winx-Enable argument - both totally dominant in their preferred distance ranges. A few unconvincing choices in 6-10. If Enable is already No1, then Treve deserves a spot in the top 10, and as a Kiwi, Sunline at her best would be deserving of the 10th spot. Like Winx, competing nearly always against all-comers and not scared of handicaps. I perhaps have some southern bias, as I believe Makybe Diva deserves a spot. Yes, perhaps leniently treated by the handicapper, but very few mares win the Melbourne Cup, and 3 wins is no mean feat.
The problem with you colonials asserting that your horses should be top ten or top five of anything is that it never really gets backed up on the track when your horses do compete on the world stage. Yes you've had international successes but none of your horses have travelled overseas and dominated. They've proven they are competitive and can win races but hardly proven they are the top five or ten of all time! It's not like they win five or six in a row by four lengths which is what you'd expect from one of the best of all time. Sunline was beaten more than once. So YounThink was beaten. Choisir was beaten. Black Caviar won by a nose and a nose. Takeover Target lost as often as he won. Chatauqua won but not any more easily than he won races in Australia. Haradasun and Starcraft both lost races as well as winning one. All good horses but their international performances hardly demonstrate that Aussie horses deserve a place in the top ten of all time.
@@elgransenor1472 Lots of points that could be argued here, but this post is about mares, and even here your basic premise falls short. Black Caviar was never beaten - the only one on the list. Sunline won plenty in a row (nearly always against all-comers and not just mares) and had a better record than Goldikova, Ouija Board and Lady Aurelia. Let's face it, even Enable was proven fallible in the wrong conditions, so its extremely rare horses don't get beaten from time-to-time. Also saw your comment on Winx on another stream, and I'd agree that this spring makes those she beat look pretty average, but the horses that won those big WFA races this year have some useful international form. Anyway, good banter. I'm happy to be open minded enough to appreciate great horses.....wherever they're from....
keith gould Yes the BC turf races were very ordinary IMO. The BC Turf winner, Bricks and Mortar is obviously good but didn't beat much. BG will definitely be at his best this time but I think the Japanese horse will still beat him. AE is a gun, she's 3 lengths better than anything she'll be up against in that race. The only way she loses is if she doesn't cope with the unfamiliar environment.
Ruffian would be my No.1 and clearly Rachel Alexandra is top 3. I know that there is a rivalry between North American vs European vs "the rest of the world" but these 2 American horses should not be overlooked. I love Enable but Zenyatta is 1 or 2 all time no doubt. On the boys side Franklel was impressive but his times were never great unlike Secretariat who was the greatest race horse of all time with his Belmont performance the greatest single horse race on the planet bar none.
Just a no at Enable over Winx. Winx and Black Caviar should be 1st and 2nd respectively with Zenyatta third. Enable is closer to Almond Eye levels and I'd be tempted I I don't know a lot about horses before 2000 so I'll leave them out but IMO, my top 7 would be 1: Winx 2: Black Caviar 3: Zenyatta 4: Lys Gracieux 5: Makybe Diva 6: Enable 7: Almond Eye
Ruffian, Rachel Alexandra, Personal Ensign, Beholder, Lady's Secret.... those are names you can't ignore. Ruffian and Rachel would have DOGWALKED Zenyatta - she'd have far too much ground to make up on horses that were even faster through the stretch.
Decent argument, but maybe a bit narrow. Zenyatta's performance in the 09 classic was awesome - and she did indeed close like a freight train. However - that's a once-in-a-lifetime stretch run. Even as a dead closer, that was a freak moment. Rachel's last 2f/stretch runs during her 3 yo season were all super fast - especially in KY Oaks, Haskell, and Mother Goose. And that was on top of her already sky high cruising speed. Definitely not a horse you spot 20 lengths and try to run down. She'd never give you the chance. As to the ducking...I don't even worry about when RA was 4. The BC was, to me, completely understandable. I hate synthetic, so I get that, and she had just run her eyeballs out against Macho Again and Bullsbaye, after being pushed by ANOTHER TC race winner (Da'tara) for the first 1/2. I don't consider that a duck. A duck would be more like Liam's Map running the dirt mile instead facing AP.
She ran her eyeballs out of course she did!...Zenyatta in her life never had to run her eyeballs out and and still won 19 in a row so tell me exactly how to ever had to run her eyeballs out in all Races she would have destroyed every horse you could ever think of think about it
World Horse Racing All good horses but the title probably needs changing to "of the 21st century". Pebbles is the obvious omission for me. Treve, Miesque, Allez France, Petite Etoile. A couple before my time but acknowledged as some of the greatest.
The answer may lead to that conclusion because colts and stallions are generally sent to stud over risking injury or death as they're worth more money not racing leaving just the high ranking fillies snd mares with no competition.Example would be australian horse So you think who was sold for $60 million after second cox place win and only ran in a couple more races in europe. He could have kept racing but why risk him when the stud value far out wieghs any prize money.
@keith gould they flogged ol strawbs to death around the world by different owners. Was a real warhorse and probably should have been in the list purely for the amount of traveling it did
Hello? Ruffian was essentially the female Secratariat but unfortuately broke down in a match race vs. Foolish Pleasure (Kentucky Derby winner) Ruffian had won her 10 races prior by wide margins. I suggest you check the times vs. Winx and you'll get your eyes opened. She race in the mid 1970's so a lot of people don't know about her, yeah her acceleration more than matche Winx.
valcye Really? Who were they? Happy Clapper and Hartnell? Or do you mean The Autumn Sun trained by Chris Waller? I agree she is a champion and deserves that status, but she doesn't deserve the No 1 place on this list.
Can someone with good breeding books check on this. I read way back that the American sire DISCOVERY circa 1935 is the only horse in the DAM LINE of every champion since then. Most of the champs have NORTHERN DANCER in their pedigree 1968 circa since then. Clever and intelligent breeding seems to the go these days. Any suggestions? Just asking courteously.
Well, if you had just titled this video, “my subjective list of who I think are the top 10 best ever mares in horse racing” then I could deal with it but since you put the best in horse racing ever, uhhhhhmm no. Any list that claims to be the top 10 best mares should have these ladies, yet you only have queen Z: Ruffian Azeri Goldikova Rachel Alexandra Personal Ensign Winning Colors Genuine Risk I could add more that don’t include the mares you think are the greatest but I know that’s how subjective things work.
Please don't forget the #1 record holder for most unbeaten races. The mare Kincsem, 54 wins out of 54 starts. #2 on that list is Black Caviar with 'just' 25 out of 25 😇
Hands down, Black Caviar was a lot better than Winx. It's much harder to dominate shorter races. Her win in the Newmarket Handicap (Australia's best sprint handicap) where she carried a record weight and broke the 140 odd year race record while going about three quarter pace was insane. The manner in which Black Caviar won races over 1000m-1200m was astounding. She only raced once over 1400m and dominated there as well. She backed up a week later over 1000m, and won easily again. Any trainer will tell you that is near impossible for a horse to win over 1400m and then over 1000m seven days later. She did it at Group 1 level with ease. Winx never really faced any good opposition. That's a major knock on her. She dominated a very poor patch of Australian middle distance racing. Likewise, Black Caviar also didn't face tough opposition, but at least some of the horses she consistently beat were champions, such as Hay List. Also, the fact that she went 25-0 should add weight to the legend. Winx was a handy 3yo, but was clearly not as good as First Seal who beat it in the good three year old fillies races in Sydney consistently.

@@al1979rocker You said "Hands down Black Caviar is better than Winx" ...... maybe at the sprint distances 1000m-1200m..... but Winx would annihilate Black Caviar had she raced 1600m-2000m against her. All im saying is Winxs credentials are far superior with the races she has won as to compared to Black Caviar. Black Caviar is the greatest sprinter us Australians have seen since Vain, but Winx clearly sits on top of the podium as the Queen of the turf. 4 Cox Plates..... 4 Queen Elizabeths...... plus the rest. Makybe Diva shouldn't be in here, incredible horse yes but Sunline was far superior. Whilst many horses are missing, Miesque (UK/USA) definitely deserved to be here AND then became a champion broodmare. Enable over Winx I agree with and I'm an Aussie
@@coopsthommo5507 I agree that it won't be replicated and she was brilliant but I don't believe the MC generates nearly the quality of horses most people believe. The reality is that few recent Melbourne Cup winning horses, if any, show any real racing aptitude prior to/or post their MC win. Particularly across multiple racing years and so no, I won't make the case that the best horses always line up for it. It wasn't until her 7th year (third MC) that she became the dominant horse in Australia. Prior to that, she was consistently beaten in WFA and middle distance races. You could make the case she could be in this list for sure, but not ahead of Sunline who was dominant for years/carnivals and won in multiple countries.
@@coopsthommo5507 The Melbourne Cup is a handicap, a race for the punters rather than for thoroughbreds. Makybe Diva won her first Melbourne Cup as a lightweight and was lightly weighted by the handicapper on her second and third wins. Sunline however was a genuine WFA champion, 2 times Cox Plate Winner, Doncaster Handicap and won G1 in 3 countries including a world class field in the Hong Kong Mile where she defeated multi G1 winner and horse of the year Fairy King Prawn.

What was your favourite performance?
For me, I love watching Winx run and do it without needing to be switched like most of the others. She looks like she enjoys beating those boys.
Are they just dealing with European mares?
No Rachel Alexandra, and no mention of Go For Wand who
broke down in the stretch run of her Breeders Cup race. I've never seen a worse one. OR Ruffian who broke down in a match race against colt Foolish Pleasure.
The Black Caviar always
Gentildonna, Dubaï Sheema Classic vs Cirrus des Aigles 🙂
My horse ran (and won) with the same strategy as Zenyatta.
Where is Ruffian and Rachael Alexandria?! Like seriously these two are brilliant and two of the top fillies EVER!

I agree. It was never going to happen but it would have been great to see them race each other over 6.

Loosing isn't the word you're looking for...
My personal opinion is that her last race was actually her best... Even though she lost by a nose...
winx would have made her look like a small kid
Zenyatta was horrendously over rated and protected
Makybe Diva is number 9
Thank you. An excellent list. I especially appreciate the often-forgotten Busher.
You forgot TERLINGUA- she beat the Legend FLYING PASTOR in 1978 I believe it was.....TERLINGUA put D. WAYNE LUCAS on the map.....
Add Dance Smartly to the list
Loved watching! Would have loved to see Winx and Zenyatta race....both late closers.....what a heartstopper that would have been!!
Glad you enjoyed it Linda! Don't forget to hit subscribe for more of the same 😃
Being closers was literally the only thing they had in common.
Arent zenyatta and winx from same bloodlines?edit, sire streetcry
Zarkava should be on this list cause she has beaten Goldikova twice in group 1 races, and she retired undefeated after winning the Arc
Absolutely right about Zarkava being better than Goldikova, the Breeders cup made Goldikova a legend over there but not in Europe where there were one or two better than her
No Treve? No Rachel Alexandera? No Winning Colors?
WINX is a true kind specialist because in her last ever race she won her 3rd Queens Elizabeth stakes and she has 33 wins in a row and she won the coxplate 4x in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018
It's got to be WINX for me. She's a Legend.
WINX, DIva, Black Caviar, Zenny for sure...Beholder...of all of the in the video...I would say that WINX has been the most exciting in her sprinting finishes and for the LONGEST CAREER OF ALL!!
Go for Wand and Winning Colors were top notch. Maybe to top 10's for each continent.
Kincsem is the record holder with 54 undefeated races. Black Caviar is second on the list with 'just' 25...
UK based assessment I'd say. They'll always put their horses on top. Same probably goes for lists compiled in other countries, they favour their horses.

@@marknorris1381 that's true indeed. I have noticed that particular American ppl only rate American horses as the best ever. They don't even know horses from Australia, Europe, Canada etcetera...

10 to 12 furlongs is hardly showing "versatility".
B Gardiner
If Enable had raced in Australia there would have only been one suitable race to target as an older filly/mare, the BMW Tancred.
Now here is the real top ten:
1 Zenyatta (No female will ever compete with her speed PERIOD. Like Secretariat she only gets faster each quarter and at the end of both BCC she was running over 40 MPH across the finish line)
2 Genuine Risk (only female to place 1st or 2nd in all triple crown races)
3 Lady's Secret (only horse to win 8 grade 1s in one season)
4 Ruffian (Legend)
5 Makybe Diva (3 Melbourne Cups)
6 Winx (Incredible 4 Cox plates and other records. But Cox plate and QE Stakes are less demanding than the Melbourne Cup. They should have raced her in either the Breeders Classic or Dubai Cup)
7 Rachel (best 3 year old filly season ever)
8 Black Caviar
9 Rags to Riches
10 Beholder
US doesn't time the race when the barriers open - only after a run-up which could be a variety of distances. US Times are a concoction therefore and not as fast as they publicize. Winx would beat her on class and her ability to win consistently over a variety of conditions. Note Winx's record in unrestricted competition.
Thanks to all the people that work every Day with those horses!

Her record of beating Humidor, Happy Clapper, Hartnell over and over again?
And what, her multiple losses at 3 just don't count? We ignore them?
Winx consistently beat Waller horses that weren't middle distance horses, they were stayers
Winx was the biggest fish in a very small pond.
She may have been a big fish in the big pond but you'll never know.
You Aussies can guess what she might have done or rave about her sectionals but you're just dreaming and wishing.
She never proved it.
@@elgransenor1472 never saw any of yours come take her on,i also query some of her competition, but after analyzing i still think she would have beaten most in the world.I know its hard to comprehend somethings better than you have but you need to.There was one fillie/mare that would have challenged her but went amiss, look up delucacy. She was a champion in the making.in the south australian derby the horse who came second went to hong kong and became a champion.look her up
Russe
Very impressive, I hadn't seen her before.
I gather she was owned by the same person who has Arcadia Queen?
I agree that from 2016 to 2017 Winx was the best horse in the world at 7-10f but I'm still not sure that puts her in the top ten of all time let alone the greatest of all time according to the original post here.
Am only here for Zenyatta lol🙃💯
They should ALL be locked in at #1. Good luck to the genius who can come up with a formula that differentiates between nations, track conditions and surfaces, climate, distance, weights etc.

This list is too biased and lack credibility...sorry
I'm surprised with this channel's decision of their "top ten..."
That they are capable of even counting to ten (10)
None of the above compare to Dawn Run! She is the only horse (never mind mare) to win the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle (1984) and Cheltenham Gold Cup (1986) double. She had guts! Her Gold Cup victory was the best finish I've ever seen. She was only 15.2hh. Her statue now proudly stands in Cheltenham racecourse.
some terrific horses there indeed, but i think if this video was done today, lys gracieux would feature very highly.
Almond Eye finally on the world stage ,this is a bigger test than her Dubai win but a clash with Exultant would have been the match up of the year.
Keith Gould
Exultant is just another version of Benbatl or Beauty Generation. A dominant performer in second tier racing jurisdictions.
Dare I say it, much like Winx.
She was just more dominant than them but the level of competition was not dissimilar.
El Gran Senor He beat Lys Graceaux with the arc winner 5lengths astern .
What about Gentildonna ? Lool
Keith Gould
I think you put too much stock in this Hong Kong and Dubai form.
Granted, it's higher quality racing than Australia but the horses that perform there virtually never measure up the following season in Europe.
Unban sea won the arc mother to two Derby winners ? Pebbles? Balachine won the oaks in the heavy rain, but enable is the best.
Ruffian?

Winx is like the athlete or swimmer who wins multiple Commonwealth Games gold medals in record time but never wins an Olympic medal.
Enable is like the swimmer or athlete who doesn't hold any world records but has 5 Olympic golds and 1 silver.
That's why Enable is number one on this list.
In less than half the number of races Enable has multiple Olympic Golds and Winx has none.
Zenyatta would of destryed both horses,

Zenyatta would have beaten Enable over 12f at Epsom would she?

@@elgransenor1472 😂😂😂
She only raced between 1000 to 1400m. The richest, most prestigious races in the world (Arc, Japan Cup, King George, Breeders Cup etc) are at the classic distance of 2400m.
@@oot007 okay OTT!!
Zenyatta is the best in my opinion.
pretty polly the english triple crown winner is generally considered the best british mare of all time and is rated more highly than enable by racing historians
In race #9 with Makybe Diva... Who's the horse that finished 2nd? That one came fast, unbelievable wow
It's evident none of those horses could beat Zenyatta
@@underscore2824 love winx too!.... but you can't tell me Winx would have done what Zenyatta did in both breeders cups and if Zenyatta were a grass course she would have been much faster
@@underscore2824 it depends on the ground, in Uk the is pretty heavy compared to sunny Australia
She beat gio ponti for heavens sake, and a wall of others close up, winx would have beaten those horses by 5 lengths or more.
Four of those seven times there were 2 or more opponents rated 122+
I'm not saying Enable is better than Winx. I think Winx is the better horse overall.
But Enable certainly raced harder opponents and more of them more often.
It's impossible to know whether Enable would have handled Moonee Valley but I'm sure if Enable took Winxs place in the Turnbull and QE Stks in 2017/2018/2019 she would have clearly beaten Kluger, Youngstar, Gailo Chop and Ventura Storm over 2000 at Flemington and Randwick.
what about zenyatta she would have beaten any female horse in history by 10 lengths
SUNLINE you slept on that Mare
@keith gould Didn't sunline go to Hong Kong too? If so that makes her record even better
I'm happy to be open minded enough to appreciate great horses.....wherever they're from....
keith gould
Yes the BC turf races were very ordinary IMO.
The BC Turf winner, Bricks and Mortar is obviously good but didn't beat much.
BG will definitely be at his best this time but I think the Japanese horse will still beat him.
AE is a gun, she's 3 lengths better than anything she'll be up against in that race.
The only way she loses is if she doesn't cope with the unfamiliar environment.
keith gould
When is the HK meeting?
Ruffian would be my No.1 and clearly Rachel Alexandra is top 3. I know that there is a rivalry between North American vs European vs "the rest of the world" but these 2 American horses should not be overlooked. I love Enable but Zenyatta is 1 or 2 all time no doubt. On the boys side Franklel was impressive but his times were never great unlike Secretariat who was the greatest race horse of all time with his Belmont performance the greatest single horse race on the planet bar none.
Landaluce petite etiole dahlia oh so sharp triptych zenyatta black caviar enable Allen France for me
And kincsem? She won 54/54 races......
Just a no at Enable over Winx.
Winx and Black Caviar should be 1st and 2nd respectively with Zenyatta third. Enable is closer to Almond Eye levels and I'd be tempted I
I don't know a lot about horses before 2000 so I'll leave them out but IMO, my top 7 would be
1: Winx
2: Black Caviar
3: Zenyatta
4: Lys Gracieux
5: Makybe Diva
6: Enable
7: Almond Eye
Ruffian would have left them all 8 lengths back
Ruffian, Rachel Alexandra, Personal Ensign, Beholder, Lady's Secret.... those are names you can't ignore. Ruffian and Rachel would have DOGWALKED Zenyatta - she'd have far too much ground to make up on horses that were even faster through the stretch.
That's why they ducked her not once but twice
Faster through stretch Zenyatta has the fastest closing time Breeders Cup history. Lmao..
@@supersolo6 Mike said Smith said he wouldn't give her 20 length he would give her 11 so your stories debunked
She ran her eyeballs out of course she did!...Zenyatta in her life never had to run her eyeballs out and and still won 19 in a row so tell me exactly how to ever had to run her eyeballs out in all Races she would have destroyed every horse you could ever think of think about it
Best horse male or female in my life time FRANKEL.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
How about Treve
So the best 10 mares ever all raced in the past 15 years?
These are suggestions - by no means definitive! Who would make your top 10..?
World Horse Racing
All good horses but the title probably needs changing to "of the 21st century".
Pebbles is the obvious omission for me.
Treve, Miesque, Allez France, Petite Etoile. A couple before my time but acknowledged as some of the greatest.
@@elgransenor1472 Great choices - these lists are always open to debate. Sounds like we need to make the sequel! Thanks for your input.

I think the eye test says Winx #1. That acceleration is unmatched.
Pat G
Yeah but Wonx spent 90% of her career beating BM78 horses.
Sort of detracted from her legacy a bit.
@@elgransenor1472 Other trainers with top horses avoided her, says it all really. She deserves her champion status.

Gentildonna anyone ?
Zenyatta is a no brainer and we’re is lady’s secret
Can someone with good breeding books check on this.
I read way back that the American sire DISCOVERY circa 1935 is the only horse in the DAM LINE of every champion since then.
Most of the champs have NORTHERN DANCER in their pedigree 1968 circa since then.
Clever and intelligent breeding seems to the go these days.
Any suggestions? Just asking courteously.
Well, if you had just titled this video, “my subjective list of who I think are the top 10 best ever mares in horse racing” then I could deal with it but since you put the best in horse racing ever, uhhhhhmm no.
Any list that claims to be the top 10 best mares should have these ladies, yet you only have queen Z:
Ruffian
Azeri
Goldikova
Rachel Alexandra
Personal Ensign
Winning Colors
Genuine Risk
I could add more that don’t include the mares you think are the greatest but I know that’s how subjective things work.
Please don't forget the #1 record holder for most unbeaten races. The mare Kincsem, 54 wins out of 54 starts. #2 on that list is Black Caviar with 'just' 25 out of 25 😇

zenyatta was one of the best race horses ever male or female

So you know all about racing now aye wise guy
Makybe Diva shouldn't be in here, incredible horse yes but Sunline was far superior. Whilst many horses are missing, Miesque (UK/USA) definitely deserved to be here AND then became a champion broodmare. Enable over Winx I agree with and I'm an Aussie
NiesQue what are u on about 3 Melbourne cups in a row against the best stayers in the world, that will never ever happen again.
Makybe Diva only won at WFA when the great horses of her era, Sunline and Northerly, retired.
Sunline however was a genuine WFA champion, 2 times Cox Plate Winner, Doncaster Handicap and won G1 in 3 countries including a world class field in the Hong Kong Mile where she defeated multi G1 winner and horse of the year Fairy King Prawn.
@@oot007 I second this but I do consider Lonhro the equal of both Sunline and Northerly. Record aside in terms of big race wins, his raw talent was there
