Love this car
Yesterday was the day when I officially placed an order for the new X4 M40i. I drove the car and I can tell you, it's an absolute BEAST. The only thing that you need to get used to, is the rear window, it's a bit smaller compared to other cars.

I've had mine since December 21 and it truly is the best of both worlds. It really is fun to drive. No regrets. Blue with cognac interior 💙
Suggestion: a 120 sec part of the video where no one speaks, just drive around curves and straights!
It would achieve 2 things:
1) Better idea of cabin isolation, NVH levels
2) I can hear the sweet linear acceleration of the I6

My husband surprised me by getting me the 2021 m40i as our 18th anniversary gift. Traded up from Volvo XC40.
I am in LOVE with this amazing car! It’s quick speed it has saved my life getting me out of almost collisions. It also feels very nice to drive slow in, fast or slow this car is amazing. The engine is gorgeous. The sound is powerful for its size! At first the engine used to embarrass me every time I turned it on in the pick up line at my kids catholic school with its incredible rumbling purr, but now I get a kick out of turning heads every time I turn it on.

Great review Phil! I current drive a 2016 BMW 428i GC. My next one will be a 2023 X3 M40i or a X4 M40i. With a couple of exceptions, I've driven Bimmers all my life. I used to live in Germany and worked for BMW in Munich in the 70s. Owned one of the first 2002tiis off the production line!
Great to see a review with a lengthy drive experience. The drive for me is most important and I think I will test drive this x4. I have a x5 right now.. great but a bit big and bumpy for me. It’s a great spec 22 plate and I just wouldn’t stray from BMW due to the build quality. First class!! Thank you!

We tested a 19 Stelvio Ti Sport and found the harsh ride quality on the 20s to be an immediate show stopper for us. Drove a 21 a few months ago and it was substantially better. Not sure if it's new tires or what but completely livable even on 20s with fixed sport dampers. BMW/Audi make nice cars but the modern pricing is out of control for vehicles that just don't have much personality. If not going Alfa, I personally recommend testing a Model Y performance. Ridiculously fast and super livable if you put 19s on it. Costs nothing to run and basically doesn't depreciate.
it seems they may have made the same improvements on the Stelvio as they did on the Giulia with thicker glass and more refinement because my 2021 Giulia QV i sold was night and day superior in build quality and refinement over my 2018. The tires on the Stelvio are horrible but with our roads the Stelvio is a bit rough we are starting to feel and when we replace it after this winter we want something more refined and not as punishing to drive on bad roads. I also agree car prices are so overinflated when you look back 5-10 years.
If you get a Stelvio Ti Sport with the active suspension, the ride is excellent.
Alfa Romeos have TONS of mechanical issues, not sure why you'd pick that over BMW or Audi.

I bought the 2022 bmw x3 m40i a few weeks ago, I compared it to the Porsche Macan, Mercedez GLC 43 amg, Jaguar F-Pace, and Audi SQ5. I felt the x3 m40i to be the best choice and felt for the segment its a good value compared to the competitors. There is a long wait due to chip shortage.

what about the exhaust on 2022 m40i compared to sq5 and glc 43 amg?
@@max.zelinski The SQ5 has a Diesel engine and the sound is an audio file :). 43 amg sound a little bit weak and artificial compared to the M40i.

Does it have a good ride quality even on 21 rims in comfort mode? Did you test it on broken pavement and rough roads?
First time I visit your channel. Before you even mentioned it, just by looking at the shitty roads I knew you were in the New York City area. And yes a good sidewall is important in NYC/NJ area.

Great review as always Phil. I hate that feature start on/off. Isn’t that a scam? U don’t save any gas plus that’s how the engine takes the most wear and tear by turn it on and off constantly unless u drive like a lunatic doing 20 donuts a day. I shut it off in my car. Thank god I can block it.
The dealership just want u to get a new starter every two years, and they r not cheap for that car. They r about 2k with the labor.
When is that RFT gonna go away? Another scam. What do u recommend if u r going on a cross country trip with rft? Do those temporary inflatable kit that Walmart sells work? Not to mention that rft makes the ride more uncomfortable.
PS. Didn’t know that chrome in sport cars is a big no-no.
In summary side by side That BMW or brand new Stelvio which one would u take? Miss Auto Fanatic will take the Beamer but what say u?
Wish you could review a 2022 X4M and tell me what you think of it , I’m going into a BMW next March but haven’t decided on which one but I really like the style of this crossover it’s different .

Just got rid of my 2019 x4 m40i - loved it.
Reasonable price for the speed of it. I only drove it in sport+ mode and it was so fun. I’m stuck between a 2022 x4 m40i or a 2021-22 Tesla model y performance 🙈

Westchester county residents pay some of the highest taxes in the entire country. It truly is a disgrace that many roads continue to be in outrageous shape.
The Bronx river parkway should of been fully repaved from bronxville/Scarsdale to Valhalla a long time ago. Proximity to nyc is unbeatable but I understand why so many leave to Connecticut, upstate or down south.
I agree but as you know nothing will ever improve as long as the crooked politics are in play its disgusting how bad things are in the NY Metro area.

I reached out to you on IG as well about this and you gave me some input, but figured I'd check since you've had more time with the car now, do you still find the seat comfort as good or better than the Alfa? That's the only thing I'm still getting used to in my new X3 is seat firmness compared to my Audi. I know you've mentioned your back problems, so I use you as a good judge for seats. Thanks!
the BMW seats are firm thats for sure but the X4 M40i ride is much more compliant for the NY area than our Stelvio Ti Sport which is really a rough ride on bad roads, the Stelvio seats are also very firm and stiff but it really affects your comfort on either car based on ride quality and sound isolation inside the cabin and the BMW excels in both areas.
I like when you have the lady with you 🌹 it adds something to the video . I'm shopping for an x4 right now. sport trim.

I'm a little amused by the people complaining about the price. Here in Germany, the car costs almost 90,000 euro and I'm not talking about the X4M...

The X4M is a lot sportier with the M3/M4 510hp engine. Crazy fast and very precise driving with upgraded suspension.
X4/X3M have Abysmal ride quality for a Daily. That's why these are a better option for most.
The start stop deactivator is in the i drive system 😎

why is it being compared to a stelvio again?
because the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the best handling SUV in this segment by quite a margin so since I own one I use this as a baseline for cars in the sport SUV category.

i could not answer that as it is not my car but i doubt it . might be something left off from dealer prep this X4 has like no miles when we picked it up.
The BMW X4 M40i is a really nice upgrade from the standard X4. Wish there was an option to delete the heavy and unnecessary moonroof. I hear you about the smaller paddle shifts, but at least it has them. It needs a trailer hitch. ✌🏻
funny you mention the hitch during our drive last weekend we were wondering if a hitch option is available on the X4 for our bikes.

we really like this X4 M40i enough to seriously consider replacing our Alfa Romeo Stelvio with it in 9 months. It's just a nicer driving car on the NY roads overall. Stelvio is sexier for sure so there is always give and take.

yes this rides much nicer the X3 can get a bit harsh and bumper with the shorter wheelbase

I can’t choose between this & the 2022 Stelvio Veloce. What a problem to have!
the BMW has way more features and nicer build but it is also 20k or so more expensive so thats what you need to decide. If you plan to lease vs buy the lease on the BMW may be double the monthly payment versus the Stelvio. It all depends what you need and what works for you.

I am really interested in getting this or the x3 m40 as my next car, but for the x4, the back just looks awful. I hate all the gloss black at the back and how the back is very flat and smushed looking
Hello, I have been using this model since 3 months, so have noticed some pros & cons. Also been using X4 of previous F gen, but with 4 cylinder 28i engine. So to the point: pros is of course engine, configuration with transmission and predictability of driver needs...that is really cool how does the car predict driving situation and there is always right reaction. In my opinion this engine is perfectly suited for this car and comparing to 28i is like hell and heaven. Also nice development is overall handling and assisting systems, however I do not like so called proffesional solutions overtaking control over the car. As a cherry on the pie are sport modes, where you really see the difference towards comfort mode. In fact you have 2in1 solution, sporty and family car. Also fuel consuption is quite ok, I would say that 10 - 15% lower than I had in my 28i. Unfortunately there are some cons which really make me confused, I have hard time to believe that is high built quality, cause it is not. Comparing to my old F series quality if materials is terrible... large amount of tought plastitcs, especially on doors, which creates terrible sound of closing. Easy to scratch it, the same on belts colum...I do not get stupidity of continuous improvements by BMW, where to save couple of dollars per car their damage quality perception of such expensive and in fact nice car. As add to that is sound quality of updated Haman...this is really shit! They never been good in that, but I had Harman in old F and despie worse quality of highs it was beating existing at many levels, solid and soft bass, better sound fullfilment and its deep. Generally I must say that interior quality and sound system is worse than in 3 series F I own also. Maybe that is sign of times, but it in my opinion it is real dissapointment to me that car costing 80 TEUR (with old prices) has so low built quality. Just wondering what car and how much you need to pay to get good quality....
what model ? I have G02 M40i 2019 , and had X1 E84 28i and X3 F25 M35i ... and the X4 is a beast in power , performances and interior quality . can you precise a little bi ?

For the exorbitant amount of money 💸 we pay in taxes here in New York State & Long Island our roads 🛣 and infrastructure are crumbling and that is unacceptable and totally 💯 pathetic as you well know 😠. Run flat tires are a must!
I agree which is why we are moving from the area very soon.Politics is destroying this entire country it seems by robbing our money for zero infrastructure. The issue with Run Flat tires is they bend rims too easily around here and affect the ride quality. I will have a new video soon showing what happened on the 2021 S Class after one day of driving in NYC. One pothole blew a 3 inch hole through the tire sidewall and twisted the wheel.
That happened to me on my e90 bmw. Runflats stink as do these ridiculously sized rims. The roads are a joke.
Last time I went to Long Island it cost me $18 to go in and 18 to go out and that was three years ago. Even 8 bucks would’ve been too much. Highway robbery. Amazing the amount of money that NYC steals from one bridge everyday from the ppl.

I got the 2021 version and I'm truly in love with that B58 engine, it makes a quite heavy 2 ton car accelerate like a toy (here's my 4.6s / 16.5s to 100/200 kmh th-cam.com/video/4eSahwlKQgU/w-d-xo.html ). Also the torque is there from low rpms so it pulls very nice.
The biggest problem with me with BMWs are interiors ...
everything is smashed together. The steering wheel is just not attractive.
Help you in a cup holders I was a little slider and they're up front. Ugh.
X4 grows on me a lot recently, but white is a really boring color, why not blue or red.
considering the shortage of cars worldwide you can not be picky these days for most new cars there just are not many options and alternatives to whats in dealer showrooms.

BMW X4 is not a midsize vehicle. It is a compact vehicle comparable to the X3 and Alfa Stelvio.
The main problem with this car is the exterior. It is extremely unpleasant, the proportions just aren't right, especially in the rear end. The X6 is also not a beautiful car, but it looks much better than the X4. I would just buy the X6. BMW really needs a good designer these days.

I have this exact car in Brooklyn Grey and can't go anywhere without someone stopping me to compliment my car, people love it. I love the x6 too and was going to purchase one, but it was too large for my garage.
