If your 2.5 L YJ takes a lot of cranking to start, you need to replace 4 capacitors inside the ECU. The new capacitors will cost you less than $2 total. You can remove, open up, and replace these caps on the circuit board yourself. There are many online tutorials on this fix but you really can do it with simple common sense.

The stock YJ seats are incredibly uncomfortable. Mine were also destroyed after nearly 400k miles. I learned that 95-03 Cavalier seats bolt directly to the stock seat frame and are way more comfortable. It’s an upgrade that I highly recommend.

Just discovered your channel and subscribed! I recently purchased my first wrangler (1990 YJ) and it isn't perfect, but I have been working on it and now have the 258ci (4.2L) running great! Previous owners had done some nice updates but didn't set things up properly. They had installed a Weber 32/36, an HEI distributor and a new radiator. It ran really rough, but I have been fixing several vacuum leaks, got the carb adjusted properly and set the timing that was way off. Runs great now and so much fun to drive! Thanks for starting the database/google doc. I saved it and look forward to seeing that info grow. I need some retractable seat belts for mine and noticed in one of your other videos you had good luck using Ranger floor buckles so I may have a look at the shoulder/lap belt from a ranger and see if that will work for me. Thanks for putting some of this info together and sharing it. If I find something I think others would like to know about, I'll be sure to share it with you and others here.

Absolutely! Please do let me know how the how the Ranger belts work for you.
Sounds like a cool project. Something so satisfying about getting a carburetor running right. I know a lot of YJ folks really like the motorcraft 2150 carb if you find yourself getting frustrated with the Weber.
      Welcome to the channel!

I have a 1995 rio grande. I added a turbo, shackle reversal, and 2.5 inch lift with new springs bushings etc. Put on a new bestop top and I also sourced a reman ax5 for it. When the weather clears up the steering is getting overhauled with all moog parts. Also just installed a 12k lb winch and tube rear bumper. Purchased a new fold and tumble back seat and new orange seatbelts. Slowly she's getting there. I love my old Jeep.

Aftermarket CJ low-back seats. They bolt to the YJ seat sliders and make the Jeep look like a Jeep. Readily available from the aftermarket.

I currently own a 1990 Jeep YJ islander edition and the best thing I ever did to the straight 6 was install a howell fuel injection system eliminated all that smog crap and made it legal for California. Best deal ever just hand tools were needed. Took me about 2 hours to install the whole closed loop fuel system

Relocate the ignition module from the lower driver side inner fender panel t the passenger side upper inner fender panel. This keep the connections out of the wet - moisture in the connector will kill the module. Symptoms are no fire; ignition fires once on cranking and that's it.

I am always surprised to hear about the lack of original Wrangler YJs.
I own a 1993 Wrangler Renegade and have it in great condition. The paint is original and still looks good. Nearly all interior components are original and well taken care of, although I learned that not all were included in the stock version. Supposedly they were add-ons but are from an official Jeep partner. The original owner must've spent extra on the side step bar and air-con when they first bought it.
I love my Wrangler. Ever since the pandemic years, my family has become a fan of Jeep. When my dad told me he wanted to gift me my own Jeep, I opted for the '93 because of its rarity. I like retro and when it comes to vehicles, I want to drive something that you don't see a lot of on the road.
Watching this video has encouraged me to do what I can to take care of it. I guess now I want to keep it for as long as can and never sell.

I’ve had my YJ for 20 years. Probably one of my most reliable vehicles. I’ve had a few breaks over the years (transmissions and a transfer case), but mostly a result of off-roading wrong. I’ve just learned to fix everything myself, even installed a new AC in it (it never came with one). I love it so much, I bought a second 1994 YJ. My favorite Jeep is the YJ, but my 1998 5.9L ZJ is a close second… lol.

I had my 95 rio for 18yrs. Living in snow and salt country, it finally rotted out. Still ran and drove great but it couldn't pass inspection. It's been a year and I miss it every day.

Get rid of the 4.2's stock air cleaner. The bad rep that the stock Carter 'electric' carbs has is not any fault of the carb. The stock air cleaner reaches up over the valve cover. The crossover tube is not painted on the inside by the factory. Heat cycling forms condensation inside this tube. Surface rust flakes off and clogs the carb jets. So folks conclude these carbs are NG and swap to a different carb - changing the air cleaner in the process. So they have collaterally solved the problem but they never realized the root cause.

Its the nature of owning a 30 year old vehicle. Fixing previous owner jobs is also part of the fun and the experience of it is what makes someone a true jeeper.

Not YJ owner but a ZJ owner. Got my Jeep in high school as well; it was the family car hand me down. 10+ years later, now I'm finishing up a master rebuild and total overhaul. Welding in a cage, larger fuel cell...it's gonna be a beast. The ZJ is the YJ of the Cherokees. #squarelightsmatter

Maybe worth mentioning that you can swap an ax15 5spd tranny from a mid-late yj or tj as a replacement to the shitty 87-89 Peugeot BA10 tranny in the early yjs.

Some great junk yard axle options are Ford 8.8 out of Ford explorer, 1993-2001 are disc brake, very close in width to the stock rear D35. As far as front, I grabbed a D44 out of an early model Ford bronco, and did a disc conversion, but be warned it is a high maintenance axle, but you get the manual lockout hubs, and again it is similar to stock width.

I owned a AMC YJ wrangler 1987 red purchased new. It was a great jeep. A lot of people hate or say they hate the square headlights. However they were really the last of the true real Jeeps. After Chrysler bought jeep they started taking the jeep from a basic no frills 4x4 to a luxury 4x4. Adding power everything, high end electronics etc. I’d be scared to let the rain fall on an open jeep built today. Mine was made to get wet. Even the seats were ready to get wet. The guages were basic not as basic as the CJs but still weather proof. They also rode and handled better than the newer Jeeps. My Jeep was a better driving machine than the ones I have driven the last six years. I could drive my 87 long distance and still feel good when I got there. These new jeep just wear you out on Ann long distance drive, not to mention they handle like crap. If you lift them or put bigger tires on them they get even worse. So if I considered a Jeep I’d find a CJ or a YJ never one built by Chrysler. Oh by the way I just took delivery on a 2023 Ford Bronco 2dr with both hard and soft top. It drives better and handles better than any Jeep. Oh by the way 4dr Jeeps are ugly and I don’t think they look righ proportionally 😢

I don't have anything to add. But I do have a '94. Red. Coil conversion. Sbc 350. TH400. Corbeu seats. Metalk cloak fenders. Liners and flares. Winch. Bumpers. Rock protection. And some other things.
I do wish so many things were done with better intent and craftsmanship. And I too would like to have an un modified version. Not rusted out. At least for comparison value --still looking.
