Just accept the advise of the old mentor and the girl: Do not search for inspiration, and eventually it will come to you - maybe in a more mundane way, than you first tought, you just need to see things in a different perspective. And just wright, what you know, you put the ideas together later. It doesn't need to be consistent in the beginning, just made a lot of plots - later you can figure out, which can come after which one, and how is that possible (think of it like a detective game - as you fill the gaps with theories, and narrow it down to what is the most likely or possible solution, and you already have a story [if you want some twists, you can use the second or third most likely solution, but that can make your later work harder]).
When I was in college, one of my friends (a film buff) bought this for $10... since it is less than 10 minutes, that meant he spent more than a $1 per minute on it. And it was worth it. (We got Thumb Wars at around the same time.)
I love this short movie. I remember when it first came out. I went to great lengths to purchase it on VHS! Thanks for sharing it with us. This is one of the funniest parodies of Star Wars ever. Even George Lucas loved it!

Seven years and a new millennium (falcon) era away from the Advent of TH-cam, this was thee hot grassroots, underground item to score in the summer of '98. I got my bootleg copy at, of all things, an Xfiles convention that came through our city. Now light years and Star systems of years distance later, this ten minute masterpiece is still my base setting and reference point by which all cinematic satire slash parodies are based. It used to be HardWare Wars from '79 to '98, which is still an excellent cultural piece of pop history and for the time capsule. But, this off-off-off Hollywood opus still holds up and is just phenomenal that it's basically the equivalent of a student film with the production value of an industry tent pole release. Time keeps marching forward with it's cruel, ambivelance and aloof cold efficiency ever ahead, but this keeps it's state of the art relevancy and timelessness. It's long outlived it's title keepsake that was it's jumping off point source of inspiration from that movie year of the late nineties indie scene. But, mostly, it's effortlessly managed to look more current and undated than George's own prequel trilogy that would start filming that very year as well. The prequels look very much if their time whereas this Rosetta stone has the look of a film work with the Advent guard sheen and polish of something shot tomorrow.
Agreed I just wish them mom at the end said “ummm… an explanation may be in order.” Since in the story they clearly didn’t know they were brother and sister up until that point. But still hilarious ending😂
Hi my Hebrew school teacher Alice told me about this short film her son made called George Lucas in love and I wanted to tell you that I know your mother 😁
George Lucas is the inspiration for Luke Skywalker. He's even partially named after George Lucas. George's sister, Wendy, is partially the inspiration for Princess Leia. Wendy used to defend George against bullies. Luke Skywalker was originally a girl, then George dropped the girl, turned Luke into a boy, then reintroduced the girl as Princess Leia (another character). So Luke and Leia were Adam and Eve - created from the same source. Their father, George Walton Lucas senior is partially the inspiration for Darth Vader.
Though THX1138 isn't nearly as well-known (or at least hasn't been seen as much) as Star Wars, so I don't think most people would really get the references if they did a THX1138 parody. (What's funny in a way, though, is that if you look at the door to George and Benjy's door room when it's open and Aaron is standing there, you'll see that they're in room #1138.)
The Howard the Duck reference seems misplaced. George and Lucasfilm only produced it. He didn't invent the character. Should have been a dog called Indiana.
I think Lucas himself gave this the seal of approval.
