I like this way of filling in the gaps. Gaff still being on the job and so there to see the Blackout in '22 makes perfect sense. It wasn't until I watched this I realised they EMP'ed LA as well as physically destroying Tyrell Corporation and all of it's backups. Also, Wallace and his ideas are monstrosities. Not the Replicants-Wallace truly believes that Replicants are the future. That he can make Humanity "better". He doesn't actually care about Humanity, never did. But-he's not Eldon Tyrell. Tyrell's Nexus 7 series were able to have children with a Human, health issues notwithstanding. Wallace has been working to replicate the feat since 2032 and has been unable to, which is why he needs what Rick Deckard knows. But, Eldon Tyrell, in reality, wanted to live forever. Having a Replicant able to have children would solve all of his problems. Transfer his consciousness into the child, updating and repair make him functionally immortal. If he hadn't been killed in 2019, he'd have likely succeeded. Wallace just doesn't know this. Also, Sapper was a Nexus 8 Replicant combat model with actual combat experience who covered his tracks from 2020-BEFORE the Blackout. Freya was entirely correct when she said Sapper LET Joe kill him in '49. This is a man who only finally gave away his secret to save a woman and child he cared for who were facing rape and murder, at least. How much more Human do people want Replicants to be...?
The concept of Replicants having children is a ridiculous one and is probably the biggest problem I have with BR2049. The Tyrell that Batty kills in BR was a Replicant version of the real Tyrell who was already dead and being cryogenically preserved on a higher floor of the Tyrell Corporation. Whether he was able to transfer his consciousness to his Replicant version or not (I would have thought that was impossible and that the Replicant version was just his best effort at making a replica of himself) the fact that Tyrell was able to make a replicant version of himself before dying meant he had already achieved a sense of immortality. Even if they kept the 4 -year lifespan. Each Tyrell replicant would still be able to manufacture a subsequent replacement and add additional memories to it when its own lifespan was coming towards its end (and if consciousness was transferred the first time it would be able to transferred again) and all this without the need for pregnancy, birth and child-rearing.
@@owaffs Actually, no, it's been established that was the original Tyrell who was killed in 2019. He was never able to transfer his consciousness to a Replicant, that was why he kept trying with Replicants 1-8. If a Replicant could have a child? Best of both worlds. He died before he could do it, or he likely would have succeeded. The Owl he's so often seen with held a digital backup of his consciousness, as close as he ever got.

I rewatched the original Blade Runner last week. And now having watched this masterpiece for the first time was a pleasure. Now I can watch the recent one and be caught up.
I watched on IMAX Blade Runner 2049 in 9017 after the devastation of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico , man, I lived a real black out from September 22 to December 20, no electricity , all running by inverter power generators , so I felt the Blade Runner atmosphere all that time

Blade Runner has and always will be my favorite film of all-time, regardless of genre. When they made the sequel and all of this new lore for the franchise, it added to the existing Blade Runner world in a way that positively impacts what we already know. Most franchises worry about sequels and any other media not being able to add positively to the canon. Blade Runner doesn't have that problem.
Blade runner 2049 was so good, it’s a shame there wasn’t a market for it. Everybody has to seem marvel level comedic relief in every movie these days to give it good reviews. The bleak seriousness of 2049 didn’t sell.
Agree, it is sad that everything as you say today have to be or have comedy level relief to get critical acclaim and good reviews. The story of blade runner 2049 is very well developed and thought through with good realistic action, could have been better lines served with more emotion to get the viewer interaction with the characters better but other than that it’s a really solid movie. I hope they will make prequel feature films from the blackout + jump to 2036, and 2048 as setups to 2049 . Make a feature film about the start of the uprising of the replicant army and the ensuing war I suspect 2053? and a sequel wrapping up the timeline and letting us se the replicants start reproducing with them gaining enough body’s to establish there own government, institutions, army and society living together peacefully with equal rights as humanity.
I did not know these existed until i was watching music videos. Verger was one i saw, it was to the first short movie here and was amazing. I enjoyed these (so far, only seen blackout). They show so much about humanity.
Ironnically, the director of the first one, Shinichiro Watanabe was the guy who made Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and directed two of the shorts in the Animatrix, "Detective Story" and "kid Story" I remember seeing an interview with Watanabe years ago wherein he was asked about his involvement in Animatrix and he mentioned how much he loved Second Renaissance and how it was his favorite. I can't help but think he had it in mind when making Blackout 2022.
2049 is a worthy successor. It captures the atmosphere of the predecessor very well and logically continues the story. Too bad that not all sequels are that good.

A world where a woman and her daughter are about to get grape jellied on the street and no one cares, yet if you're a replicant, simply being alive is an affront to decent sensibilities. 🤔
So... an angel. They do God's bidding without hesitation or question. Lucifer Morningstar (Samael) was granted free will, hence his rebellion. He convinced others that they should follow him as he was doing God's bidding (which in a way he was, as part of the Plan).
It's quite interesting how many nicely placed references they used here. Especially in Black Out. And how they are better than the actual sequel. The works are clear, interesting, with a nice set, and bringing more meaning to the set.

I thought they’re gonna use the same 3D art style as the animated Altered Carbon film which I don’t really like but still not as bad as what the trailer has shown me, the trailer looks like it came out in the early 2000’s, and I’ve seen 3D animations in the early 2000’s that even better than that.
This was great, I've never seen any of these yet. I definitely get all the same captivation as when I watched the Animatrix the first time
So sad to see that the act of heroism by Sapper Morton was ultimately his downfall as well.
Jared Leto being a god-complex inventor was perfect casting 😂
He overacts.
i think he is just fine, no too brilliant, not too lowkey
💀
I don't want to see that asshole in anything really. I hate that guy
Whoa. Had no idea these even existed and 2049 is one of my favorite films. I've watched Black Lotus as well and read the comics. Hope they continue to expand on this underutilized universe. Thanks for sharing
They did these before the release of 2049. Sort of as a taster.
Comics good?
@@davidrey4183 yea they're pretty good. It follows a female blade runner. Forget her name tho
I had no idea these shorts existed either (and I've been a Blade Runner fan since the first!) and I'm not aware of Black Lotus, ...what is that?
@@hurdygurdyguy1 Lotus is a Blade Runner anime that follows this female character it was on adult swim
It’s interesting that wallace is blind, he’s so confident with his logic he was willing to take out his vision in order to solidify his morals. Very interesting character.
I rewatched the original Blade Runner last week. And now having watched this masterpiece for the first time was a pleasure. Now I can watch the recent one and be caught up.
Honestly if they made that 2022 storyline into a full fledged anime i would watch the hell out of it. That was beautiful
Period!
I wish this was a full series
I watched on IMAX Blade Runner 2049 in 9017 after the devastation of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico , man, I lived a real black out from September 22 to December 20, no electricity , all running by inverter power generators , so I felt the Blade Runner atmosphere all that time
in 9017 wtf is this typo or what
Brilliant. All 3 prequels add so much and should have been integrated into the Film.
These are brilliant, i'd love to see more expansion in the blade runner universe.
I’m so glad they covered the black out since it was constantly mention in the movie but not really showing or expressed the way this has
When I first saw this back in 2017, I thought Jared Leto's cadence and inflection made him an interesting character. 5 years later I just realized he talks exactly like the G Man from Half Life.
Thanks for the upload! I saw these years ago but I started to think I only dreamed them because I couldn’t find them online.
associating 2022 to peter chungs aeon flux, akira style apartment complexes, and 1995 ghost in the shell.. nice :)
I giggled when it was revealed he was taking control of the missile by spamming the tab key repeatedly or something lol
Who produced these excellent anime shorts. Are they part of the company/corporation that made the 2 Blade Runner films? It's my first time seeing this. Very cool. Remind me of the AniMatriX shorts & the Aeon FluX cart00ns, (errr...not the movie).
You know i don't know the studio but i know those lines after watched 200 anime. These are Manglobe studio's art- They went bankrupt like 3-4 years ago, some animators after bankrupt, found Geno Studio and looks like the others...made this.
@@serhat6181 that’s cool...😁
@@serhat6181 Thanks for that info. I hope those animators work on a Star Wars anime like the one seen on youtube by some guy in Japan who did a 3 to 5 minute short all by himself. That in itself is amazing and the animation he created is incredible.
The herky-jerky animation that i see on tv; and i'm talking specifically of the Warner Brother & Marvel cartoons of superheroes.
That animation is hard to watch. They only bother animation 9 to 12 frames per second only when there's movement.
You would think with the ease of in-between animation by a computer & animators that we would see something in the range of 18 to 22 frames per second.
I guess the budgets have shrunk enormously and animators make just above minimum wage.
@@serhat6181 Serhat Good optics on that wouldn't know where to begin to ask who did this anime. Seems too old since GIT SHELL (I & you no doubt see a lotta of rehashed standard anime semi static moves (although they would have been cool in pre GIT SHELL mid late 90's I guess . etc..but hey it's for the masses. Love to have a studio art frame of any of it on my wall hehe
has an aeon flux nature to it... nice
20:58 Damn, that guy cut off Dave Bautista with a whistle, what a Savage
I see what you did in there :)
Great animation but the plotarmor at 9:16 is too funny.
Guys got the aim of a Stormtrooper
Was never able to see these before, thanks for uploading!
I’ve already seen this, but a gremlin sent me here.
Hell yeah, investigator.
;)
👀
Yeehaw investigator

Blade Runner has and always will be my favorite film of all-time, regardless of genre. When they made the sequel and all of this new lore for the franchise, it added to the existing Blade Runner world in a way that positively impacts what we already know. Most franchises worry about sequels and any other media not being able to add positively to the canon. Blade Runner doesn't have that problem.
We need a blade runner series following this guy where he's played by trevante rhodes ASAP
I believe they are coming out with a blade runner 2099 series
They show so much about humanity.
feels like Ghost in the shell and bladerunner should have a cross over universe
They cross polinated
The first one reminds me of the 'Animatrix' short 'The Second Renaissance (parts 1+2)'.
Yes agreed✌👍😁
Ironnically, the director of the first one, Shinichiro Watanabe was the guy who made Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and directed two of the shorts in the Animatrix, "Detective Story" and "kid Story"
I remember seeing an interview with Watanabe years ago wherein he was asked about his involvement in Animatrix and he mentioned how much he loved Second Renaissance and how it was his favorite. I can't help but think he had it in mind when making Blackout 2022.
I love when research pays off and you see cool ass shit like this 8:57 while knowing the story behind Replicant
Watched Blade Runner last night. Checked this video out before I see Blade Runner 2049. I hear it’s amazing! Am I wrong?
2049 is a worthy successor. It captures the atmosphere of the predecessor very well and logically continues the story.
Too bad that not all sequels are that good.
Felt Doctor Sleep is a worthy sequel very much in vein of Blade Runner 2049.
I'm about to watch 2049, looks awesome and looked forward to it after watching the origonal but got youtube suggestions that it "failed" lmao, will see I hope it's as good as its cinematics
@@MaryamMful that video is probably referring to the failure at the box office, not in the movie itself
@@starwarsorsomething5703 ah ok! Do you know why it flopped at the box office? I watched it now and I think it's amazing, not only aesthetically very beautiful (especially for big cyberpunk fans like me) but imho it continued the philosophical themes of the 1.movie very well.
Shuko Murase's animation is extraordinery.
I forgot that these existed. What a pleasant reminder.
Imagine if black lotus actually tried to deliver on story
6:18 THIS IS SO SICK!!!!!!
I had only JUST heard about these recently, glad to see someone posted it!
This is like the Animatrix
Love this story, love the animation. That blade runner story should have been turned into a series.
8:21 "No heaven or hell for us, this world is all we got"
Thank you!
They should’ve made Black Lotus in the style of the 2022 short
Man I hope the upcoming Blade Runner anime (Black Lotus) is just like this! I know Watanabe won’t go wrong!
A detective time travels ahead so we know to watch this prior. It's elementary, right?
The girl reminds me so much of Priss...innocent but deadly... very glad to have found these 3 films!
2022 - Black Out , very good anime!
I like how black out stars a black blade runner, no pun intended there im sure
Thank you for this video
Funny how the guards look exactly like the rebels and shoot exactly like the stormtroopers in Star Wars.
A world where a woman and her daughter are about to get grape jellied on the street and no one cares, yet if you're a replicant, simply being alive is an affront to decent sensibilities. 🤔
You'd think the woman and her daughter would run to thank him in gratitude for saving them from those repellent humans instead of cowering.
2022 was two years ago....
They should do a bigger movie from Black Out...
I would love it!!
Thx! MITHO! I see this this as the 'Animatrix' for BladeRunner! It fills in soo much! (Ka-BOOM!)
"This is an angel... and I made him."
...
LIKE AN ANGEL WITH CRUEL AND MERCILESS INTENT-
So... an angel. They do God's bidding without hesitation or question. Lucifer Morningstar (Samael) was granted free will, hence his rebellion. He convinced others that they should follow him as he was doing God's bidding (which in a way he was, as part of the Plan).
triple tribute: Trixie flips like Pris, spots Roy's dove, crashes like Zhora
Brilliant animation. Gorgeous work. Love it!
2022 blackout has Animatrix vibes, wish more anime had that level of quality but it's too much to ask considering the work conditions
its Morbin time
This is excellent. Watanabe is always great with his animation team.👌🏿👍🏿😎🌴🌙
hope they called an uber for wallace after that
They should make this a Netflix series
6:09 For some reason, this short picture is the most beautiful anime impression for me.
How did I just find out about these... After rewatching BR2049 I can't help but wish Denis would take on another, set in 2079 for ex.
I mean Jared Leto actually can act. Here's proof. He just needs a director who can work with him and keep his ass in check
It's quite interesting how many nicely placed references they used here. Especially in Black Out. And how they are better than the actual sequel. Are - because a short film is a very limited production with a clear goal - to wrap up the idea in a short form. The works are clear, interesting, with a nice set, and bringing more meaning to the set.
Thank you for sharing, i had only seen snippets of this and i really love OG and 2049. I would love to see a conclusion or additional storyline if it happens:)
I believe blade runner 2099 the series is coming out in a year or 2
This is a very unsettling comments section.... feels like a conspiracy of some sort
They are replicants
@@Dekross hehehehe

Nice to see there Adam Savage from MythBusters at 20:58
Do you have any idea how satisfying these gunshots are? I want these sound effects in the next gun game.
Thank you for this upload, looking forward to watching it!
Every kid all happy with Edgerunner for Cyberpunk 77 when the aesthetics of these animations seems to be a lot better.
L take. Edgerunners was animated by studio trigger who are legendary animators of former studio gainax. The attention to detail in edgerunners is fantastic as almost every scene takes place in real locations that are in the game.
