A Sign of Things to Come... | Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest Tactical Analysis

- As Arsenal swept Nottingham Forest aside 3-0, the result felt significant for Arteta's men, and today's tactical analysis examines just HOW they made such light work of Nuno Espirito Santos' side.
First we analyse the tactics behind Arteta's first half template in possession, why there were some interesting and effective usages of players such as Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, and Jorginho. Next, we look at how Arsenal made their control count in the final third, focusing on their wide rotations, and how Calafiori and Jurrien Timber balance Arsenal's attack so well with their dynamism.
In the second half, Arsenal become much more fluid in their in-possession structures, showing how adaptable they are becoming as Partey, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling, and Ethan Nwaneri all became second half subs.
Lastly, we wrap up with an analysis of Nwaneri's cameo, and what makes him so unique as a player.

Just prior to the full time whistle, though, Ethan Nwaneri wrapped up the victory with his first every Premier League goal, to send Arsenal 1 point behind Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, and 8 behind Arne Slot's Liverpool. Good work Harvey. I think Gabi’s contributions to the performance goes under the radar. Although he didn’t get a G/A his silky play in the first half especially allowed us to break down their defense in the box. Reminds me of our 22/23 play style.

I don’t share your high expectations of Sterling, I think he could be a bit of a dud. But not every last minute loan move works out!
Interesting that Sterling has set up the last two Ethan goals though. That could be down to timing, when they both come on late, but I think it’s also due to Sterling’s experience of space and his calmness to find Ethan in those pockets.
Still maintain that we need a Zubimendi type 6 to upgrade an ageing Partey, but great vid as always 🧨
Arteta now plays a bit more like liverpool than city, timber played similar to trent j20/partey like gravenberch and odegaard like szoboslai, although I would liken to harvey Elliot when he comes back. Obviously there are variations, won't be exactly the same bc the players are different
