Great do-over. That hill in the heat and the dry and all churned up is no joke. LIke others have said - the cooling of the sand with the night after the sun goes down makes it all a little more possible. Even a day or two of wind would have smoothed it out for ya. Glad you didn't have to spend the night! Nice to have some good clean fun to watch.
Cool trucks racing up a steep hill, doesnt get much better than that! As a third time and finale you should reach out to Matt and invite him to meet up and do some challanges up the hill, would be an awsome collab and a great video, also his heavy-wrecker would get a rematch against that hill and see if it can keep up with a raptor :D

One thing is clear....as it happened the first times once the sand is shacked up it sure makes it quite difficult to get up there and as Matt said temperature does hardened the sand.Good on you guy's.
@@sterlingswildwestthe difference in grip 10psi vs 7psi is huge the difference again from 7psi to 5psi is even bigger on the sand you should have kept dropping lower and you would have probably gotten up your on sand not rocks could have saved yourself a lot of time
It's all about ground temperature...later at night, colder ground (sand) it really makes a difference...I've even experienced this in mud, sand, and clay.
This really shows how much difference weight can make. I have had the weight of my passenger seat prevent me from climbing a hill similar to this with my 67 CJ5, put the seat in, cant make it, take seat out, make it, tested it 4 times each. Horsepower can make a bit of difference though. I do wonder how much air did the 4Runner have in his tires? He was lacking in power as well though.

Great fun As you’ve noticed dry hot sand becomes very loose And the more you turn it the worse it gets But after sunset the humidity levels rise allowing the sand to bind giving you the extra traction needed to make it a bit easier And some times the difference between 8 psi and 4 psi will make the difference in getting out or wenching out What’s next
Personally, I would think that it would be a GOOD idea to pre-arrange with the Hurricane Fire Department. To have a tanker truck to be there to water down the trail. That, or get someone to create a new, much easier, safer trail to go up and down. I can see someone getting stuck down there, and dying from a heart attack. That, and I SERIOUSLY HATE SAYING THIS! But if nothing else can be done. it might have to be closed.

Nate's tires were street tires and stayed on top of the sand. Smooth tires work great in soft sand every time,
Nate and my tires were the exact same tires but I have about 900lbs of gear in my truck that Nate didn’t. He was 5lbs lower pressure 🙌
