This includes Invisible Cars, Broken Bounces, Weird Physics, and other planned or unplanned updates that have plagued the Rocket League playbase over the years. Experience both painful and entertaining reality of game development as we watch the best examples of Rocket League bugs, glitches, hacks, and exploits that technically were added to the game by the developers themselves. Psyonix has sure got some explaining to do!

@@Rocket_Sledge Any number of pros and semi-pros at any time in RL's history would be willing to test basic stuff like car and ball control for free. 😋
@@HostileHitman I think it becomes a little more complicated than that. Speaking as someone who *has* been given a test version of the game by Psyonix in the past it could be very disruptive to someone who is playing RL seriously. I had to completely replace my current version and was thus unable to play online during the testing phase. Often pros are not really interested in devoting that time, not to mention QA testing a game involves more than just being good at it. I do agree Psyonix could have reached out to try and find higher ranked testers, something they did do after this issue.
@@Rocket_Sledge to add. It isn’t QA’s job to be skilled at the game. Only to test if the game functions properly. If anything. The worse the player, the better, as they’ll find more things wrong with the game. It’s not about how fast you can complete the game.
@@reeeech9245 True. Though the counter arguement(in this case) is that a player that can dribble well, flick, and stall/flip reset was going to probably catch a bug like the one I showed. Whereas an un-mechanical one would miss it.
It’s a ton of work to develop a multiplayer game that need to refresh info as fast as Rocket League. Bugs can be frustrating, for sure. But just remembering that it’s really only a game, and that there is always the possibility that code can break other code, psyonix does do a pretty good job managing bugs quickly. Some of them are hilarious though. 😂😂

Yeah the only one of these I’ve experienced is the recent one with extra players on the field. I was playing twos with my brother and we ended up playing 2v4 with 3 players and one AI on the other team it was so funny
I genuinely think many modern day game devs overlook QA testing. Internal QA isn't extensive enough. Giving betas or some pre-patch testing to different skill levels of players (maybe even people who have modding knowledge) would prevent a lot of bugs and complaints I think.
As a modder, I am 100% for this idea.

I think the issues with RL physics could be caught if they used a similar testing tool that Halfwaydead / Rocket Science uses. Just program a bot to do basic ball touch, roll, and bounce tests and see if the ball behaves the exact same on all the arenas and after every batch. And if you want to be fancy about it, fuse the recording bot that Sledge has used with the testing tool, ask couple pros and freestylers to record some example shots with different mechanics and let the bot run through the moves, record data and compare to the previous batch. And if any data points are different, you know you have an issue.
you see the problem is when you create a new game - there are no different levels of players, yeah theres like people who game more etc but it usually takes the players getting good enough to notice things like that, with preexisting games yeah they could just hire higher level players not for betas an such

Something happened to the ranks in 3s as well. lots of players with champ goal explosion in from high plat to high diamond.
Meanwhile: Tournaments are still a broken, buggy mess.
Yep, I've not got through an entire tournament without it crashing in well over a year.

@@dcp0102 Fair enough, but I've had teammates say the same thing. Game either crashes or stops connecting to games. I've got quite adept at rebooting and rejoining games before the start timer counts down.
I think the crossbar bug still exists because every time I athena flick it doesn't go in for some reason :/
Jokes aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the game will be like when it comes out in UE5. I bet there will be plenty of bugs at the beginning but in the long run, it's definitely for the best
one time I was in a freeplay match and in the game at the same time, everyone was invisible to me, nobody could affect me in anyway nor could I affect the game, if I hit the ball it just snapped back to where it was, and after a goal was scored, I was stuck in the last position the replay was at, afterwards I just had the same pov the whole time even when it was supposed to be replays
Yep, in that situation YOU were the extra guy in the lobby. Like I showed near the end of the video.
@@Rocket_Sledge i had that bug in 3v3 with a friend, he could move when there was the timer in kickoff and etc, i saw him but he could touch the ball , i saw him touch the ball and when a goal was scored his screen turned black

I miss neon fields, if I remember correctly people complained about neon fields walls being hard to see and read hence the removal. I loved how it looked too and I wish they would bring it back

Not really an exciting one. I also could have spent a lot of time complaining about UI issues but who wants to watch a video about that? lol
The true art of this video consists in the fact that you gave me this video idea and I let it sit on my list for almost a year then gave it back to you. Clearly sitting right next by my other video ideas for so long gave this video idea time to grow, evolve, and finally find its place. I would argue that I deserve quite a substantial cut of the revenue of this video, given the fact I spent so much time with its idea, moving it around, re-prioritizing it again and again, and watching it for hours without being able to write a script for it. I will always remember the time we spent together.

Had this happen twice to me. I was going into some casual doubles, but when the game started there was 2 players on both team, but an extra bot on one of the teams which created a 3v2.
I love when my car is able to move before the kickoff lol, feels like time stopped for everybody else
Just recently my friend had the invisible car bug, prob around 2 weeks ago in a private match. He could see their name tag but it was stuck at the spawn point of a demo even if the guy was moving
The one bug I will literally never forget is the one where you would get stuck on the curve if you had driven it up with full speed. You always had to slow down a certain amount so that wouldn't happen. Actual Pain.
didn't know about that one, that sounds infuriating. seems that a ton of bugs (like this one) originate from the physics tickrate. can't wait to see how UE5 changes that

That .01 bug happened to me. I was so confused, but I was on the winning side of the incident. I kept going over it in my head throughout the day. Then, I saw the Psyonix announcement later that day.
Fun fact you can actually play neon fields in tournaments and no not the sweaty tournaments for rewards it's the one you go against bots in training were you used to get rewarded with the money boost
8:45 the casual kickoff bug happens because of a team of 3 being launched into "freeplay casual" between casual games and if you hit the ball at the same exact time as the game starts, it will launch the ball in the air on kickoff, cause weird kickoff locations, weird car positioning, etc.
I noticed this about 8 months ago and would try to attempt it every time i would come across the scenario and i was able to make it happen again 2-3 more times since then.
That invisible car bug happens to me a lot, mostly in casual which is funny but you can only use car cam and when someone scores. It doesn't remove you from the game, only to stare at apart of the stadium and your controller is useless (you'll spam buttons for days). I first seen it last month when there 7 people in a 3v3 lobby, i was so confused lol

And there would be nothing wrong with any of them. That's the point I was trying to make. Not a bug.
With so many solid map creators such as cowboy, leth, and simpleshark you'd thing they could reach out to them about map set up and color saturation (especially Leth as a former pro) for standard maps that could make their way into RLCS.
I've experienced the extra player bug, the guy was on the scoreboard on their team and he was moving around till kickoff but he left the game pretty quickly
2:54 Can’t you wait until collision is detected, then back away until you are touching it by one pixel?
It's a bit more complicated than that. What if a car is pushing it from behind? As soon as you back it up the ball is now inside the car. You might say "well just back the car up as well", but what if there was an opponent car just behind that one? You'd back it up and now you've got a demo that should never have been. There's definitely stuff that can be done to ease the penetration problem, but I'm sure Psyonix are already utilising them.
That's very expensive to do, since you don't know how far back you have to go. You just know that somewhere between last tick and this one, a wall started. Then you have to check collision at multiple more or less cleverly chosen spots inbetween hoping to find a spot that's sufficiently close. Those additional checks take time, which means that everything _else_ that happens in that physics tick (8ms) has to finish faster, because there needs to be some time that's unused just in case a collision is detected and additional work is required.

got to witness the extra player bug twice in one session with my friends doing 4s. the first time it was one of our guys who was the extra player, then a few games later the other team had it
I'm surprised that, in the bright map section of the video, you didn't mention the snow map they had some months ago that was unbearably bright
The only recent snow map added was Beckwith. I didn't realize people thought it was bright though?
There used to be a bug in rumble where you would get a power on kick off after a goal if you had been demoed when a goal was scored, that was fun lol

I've seen a few of my friends diving before match in the past few weeks. After the first goal they're game freezes and the have to restart their game it's super annoying
Right now there is also the bug where you will sometimes be put in a casual match, no matter what. Queued for Snow Day and Dropshot, played a match of Snowday, pressed triangle to re-queue, got put in casual 3s. Just me though, my teammate that I was teaming up with WAS put in a Snow Day match.
I still have the replay of the game somone used their special power in competetive rumble game in 1 second after round started (its normally limited to 10 seconds for everyone) and moved the ball before anyone even can touch it.
I remember back in the days there was a bug where if you would load into a game it could ocasionally happen, that one player would join into the wrong team. So for example instead of a 2v2 game you would end up in a 1v3 and so on. Missed that one in this list.

I've hated that sloped Wastelands map since the day it came out. Just by flipping back towards the corner boost at kickoff you hit the ground. It bugs me so much. I don't mind any of the other maps, I don't care if a map is too bright or whatever but that map, I hate it with all my heart.
I still have slight post problems that don’t look like they should or should not go in but they are much smaller than the original clips shown

There is a bug since 2015 that when u try to make private match it just shows u black loading screen and they didnt fix it yet
I wish I agreed with the community about map lighting, but some of my favorite maps are the ones others hate, salty shores and the new starbase for example, which is a bummer because it means that some of my favorite maps end up getting taken out of rotation.

Yeah that last bug still happens to me twice. I have footage from one game. I had someone start right underneath the ball and had an extra player. Game ended 17 seconds
I don't know if it was patched but sometimes in rumble you get powerups during the 3 2 1 kickoff countdown

!!It did happened to me
I had a bug once where the ball, instead of rolling up the corner curve, went right through it. The ball continued rolling untill it fell off the map, at which point is respawned at kickoff and we could resume the game. I also had a bug where I scored a 0 second goal from an aerial, it only bounced waay in the back of the net, but the game still ended and we lost.
I cant believe you didnt include the bug where on one of the maps the diagonal kickoff was just off cetner slightly messing up everyones muscle memory.
I had an opponent spawn next to me at the beginning of a game once 😂

i had a ranked game where it was 2s but somehow the other team had 3 players but only 2 showed up on the scoreboard until half way through the game where the third person randomly left somehow
Ground freestyles be like: GODDAMN RL GODDAMN
One time my team scored a goal at 0:01 seconds in a casual rumble match and when the timer was counting down everyone used there power-ups.
another bug in casual was being in the pre match freeplay and just not loading into the match and staying at a certain camera angle and someone taking your place
How about current bugs including black-screen while joining private matches and "rank disparity" messages when none exists to name a couple.

i have encountered the extra player on the field bug this season in a casual match, something glitched out with someone not connecting and then after all the sudden he did connect but the bot still got in the game.
I've seen both sides of the bug. I think I actually scored a goal when I was the extra player before, which I found funny.
I ended up not respawning for the next kickoff.
Yesterday I played a competitive 3s game. The enemy team had 4 players. I have no clue how they did it but that 4th player did show up on the score board

8:35 in casual 2v2 I was in a situation with invis cars and it was extremely weird.
Imagine you are in the game to gc and the ball stucks in the ground in overtime.. damn
Just introduce gamma and saturation settings sliders. Then your map can be a dark/bright or colorful as you want it.
The casual kickoff glitch happens to me was to often it happened yesterday i wwas in que for cas with my mate and when we got in the match mate spawned upside down on the ball and as soon as the match started his car glitvjed and crash the game ( same happened to him )
I had a game of duos where the other team had 3 players lol
I had a werid bug recently where I went Into comp 2s with my friend and it took me like a minute to get in and he said he already had a tm8 but when I got in they were both there still and it was a comp 2v3
Sometimes the ball looks like it just stops in time, like, for one player the ball is in a place, but they cannot interact with it while the real ball is invisible
I love the new 2v2 spawn bug, three in one team, you and a bot in the other and for about 45 seconds nobody knows wtf is going on.

in 2023 chrismas event there was a lag where you could have obtained multiple items instead of one. I have three identical limited toppers and two antennas.

Actually have played in a lobby with an extra player. It was a 2v2 casual match but there was 3 on the other team. It went away after we scored though

There's a demo glitch if you explode on a corner it will never respawn you until a goal
So about 3 weeks ago I got demoed in a casual game and It swapped my car from a dominos to a stocktane
honestly I thought the hit box render wound have been fully developed for standardized game play across all maps especially since it is not a thing they have to replace or change across the maps.

I just want maps that aren't blindingly bright, and have any texture on the wall so people on the other side of the field can have a chance at reading wall bounces. Also is my memory betraying me, or did goal explosions used to not launch cars nearly as much as they do now?
some maps for me and my friends on xbox will cause us to have like 2fps for the first 15 ish seconds and make us unable to play…
You can never have a powerup on kickoff in rumble right? Coz I had once.
Technically not a bug if there is only 1 second left. Though it can get glitchy with certain powerups.
one time I ran into squishy and he happened to have the invisible car bug. playing one of the best players in the world invisible, most difficult rl game I’ve ever played 😂
For me the ball was invisible once, my ball cam didnt work as well...
