    This is excellent! Can you do a short tutorial on how to generically identify different surface mounted components like 5V and 3.3V regulators and how to test them with the multimeter?

    Honestly, I’d have paid money to watch this. I’d watch old school basic troubleshooting /component level repair content before any flight video. Great job!!

    Excellent video! This goes well with the repairwiki you're building up for the system. Hope I can help contribute to it in the near future.
    I do have one tip for you in reference to getting components down flat. What I do is I will quickly wick the solder off of one pad. Then tack the component down on the side that is still tinned. After that you go back and solder down the other side. This way you don't need to go back with hot air when it's an area you're worried about getting hot.

    It is great being able to fix something like this especially today with all the surface mount stuff.

    Brilliant work... Done a few very small Capacitor changes myself and its not easy soldering on this miniscule scale... But you made it look easy. Respect.

    Just a point the included BEC cable has browned out on me whilst flying before when on particularly long flights I think its happens when the voltage drops a bit on the 3s battery I was using.
    I am not sure how the bec cable works but I suspect it needs few volts between the 7.8v and the input voltage or it will stop working.

    using damaged devices as part sources is a good idea. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I go for a repair. I had a laptop that went dead a while ago. Wasn't able to repair it because I didn't know what I was doing, but it would make a great source for parts.

      You are exactly right, i keep a whole bunch of dead circuit boards around for this very reason. You never know when your gonna need a tiny SMD capacitor, fuse or resistor to fix something. Chances are 99% i will find the component I need.

    I accidentally pluged a battery into my goggles and the VRX module with reverse polarity. The goggles were not damaged, but the module was dead. At least I thought so. I decided to open the module up, and found the fuse on the board. Meter in continuity and the fuse was open. I replaced the fuse with a polyfuse (self reseting). And the module works again I am so lucky. I am disappointed they didnt put proper reverse polarity protection on the board like using a mosfet + TVS diode.

    Great video.
    I’m using HDZero and DJI also.
    What kind of performance increases do you think HDZero pilots will get using a headset specifically for HDZero?

    Great video as usual.. as far as off the shelf components that's great but what if we need to replace the divimath chip? Do we just ask Carl for one. if so that's a beautiful thing to see.. I really believe in the right to repair.

    Use a long thin cable if you use a flight-LiPo, to limit the inrush current.

    Good morning sir,
    I have a VRX with the same issue and have found the same fuse blown. However on the dead side of the fuse I have continuity to ground…. Any next steps I should look at?

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ouch ok something else is bad. I’d be looking at the voltage regulator next. If your on discord hop on to mine there should be a link and we can have a look. Give me a ping.

    • @HighVoltageMadness
      @HighVoltageMadness ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the fuse first, its usually a small black component near the power connector. The component will be labeled as F or FS on the PCB. Once you find the fuse, test for continuity across it with a multimeter. I hope you are good at soldering, and can Replace this fuse.

    Ian, is it not bad to turn it on without antennas connected?

    • @eternity1243
      @eternity1243 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's receiving the signal so it doesn't output any power and thus won't overheat unlike a VTX will do

      This fuse can blow if your battery polarity is backwards. Easy mistake to make with the Fatshark 18650 battery box.
