    THanks for this. Using the candies a lot in my art I'm constantly blending colours and a tangerine is one I'd say is "missing" in what I like to spray.
    I appreciate the colour theory vids you folks do.

    I would like to see some chrome paints and candy over chrome. I love candy's and I paint fishing lures and it's hard to get good coverage one small baits in chrome..

      Thanks for the feedback. We'll make a few candy-chrome videos later this year, but if you check out our recent Iron Man mask video, that does demonstrate how to apply candy2o over both W357 Quicksilver and W358 Gold Chrome, th-cam.com/video/q_4gahIXzug/w-d-xo.html. Thank you. candy2o.com/anodized-candy-colors

    Those are all awesome looking colors chris. Is there any difference in UV fade resistance between a candy and a pearl when covered with a urethane top coat.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mixing a pearlescent or metallic color with a candy2o color will have overall higher lightfast strength compared to candy2o alone, however in each case the lightfast strength of the candy2o itself is the same. The best way to get the best lightfast strength with candy2o is to mix it with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear as recommended, and apply colors in multiple, medium coats until a saturated, full-strength candy color is achieved. Thank you.

    I have a customer who wants a slot car body painted in tangerine, but with a matte clearcoat. Would I still use 4050 with the Candy2o then clearcoat matte? Or use the 4052 with the candy? OR should I just steer him to Wicked Orange and just matte coat that?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, always use 4050 for mixing with candy2o, even when the finish is matte, which should be created by the top-coat. For a customer slot car, top-coat canndy2o with a 2k urethane clear, gloss is OK. After the gloss 2k clear cure, sand it flat, then apply UVLS 4052 Matte Clear. Thank you.

  • @matthewbyrd398

    So, 4050 is now the "go-to" additive for hard surfaces for any color that specifies 4030 on the bottle? I paint lexan RC car bodies exclusively, and most of my Createx bottles specify 4030 for hard surfaces. Should I just always use 4050 instead of 4030, for these applications?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      4050 UVLS Gloss clear was developed 4 years after 4030 Balancing Clear was first introduced. 4050 was first intended as a top-coat clear. During its development, we found it was also an excellent candy2o carrier, 4050 sharing a common, urethane resin as 4030. Since 4050 was introduced, we've only used it as the carrier for candy2o as it allows for spray-gun / mid-coat application of candy2o with higher saturation, leveling and less bleeding, all of which allow for a significantly more even color-coat compared to 4030. For airbrushing, most also prefer 4050 over 4030, however the performance difference is not as disparate as spray-gun, so 4030 still works for some. Additionally, artists adding a little of either 4030 or 4050 to their Wicked Colors or Illustration Colors ~ 10% per volume prefer 4030 as it requires less thinning as when adding 4050. For candy2o, we highly recommend sticking with just 4050, but do respect others may differ due to their subjective preferences. Thank you.

      candy2o are intermixable with all Createx paints, and work very well with Wicked pearl-flake Hot Rod & Cosmic Sparkle Colors, wickedairbrushcolors.com/pearl-flakes. Thank you.

    What would happen if you mixed the silver and gold together for the base coat?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have a gold and silver mixed base, which would make for a different finish after the candy color is applied. Please make a test panel and let us know how it looks! Thank you.

    Thank you so much for this. This is exactly what I was looking for but wasn't able to achieve on my own. I find mixing candies very difficult because I can't tell what the color mix looks like until I paint it. When I mix normal paints I can tell right away if I have what I want. Is there a process to follow when mixing candies so I'm not making wild guesses and wasting paint? I know color theory very well but is there a way to creep up on a color when mixing candies?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best process to determine what happens when candy colors are mixed, and how different metallic bases create different candy finishes is through test panels, lots of test panels. You knowledge of color theory will help you avoid making "muddied" colors, for example, mixing complimentary colors. Thank you.

    Does Createx recommend a solvent based topcoat to go over their color coats? I've heard people sy to watch out for putting solvent based over water based, but maybe this isn't really an issue? Maybe it's just about proper dry times?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. Createx have been top-coated with a solvent-based, 2k urethane clear since at least the early 1990s. Our current favorite is PPG's EC550, made to top-coat its line of water-based paints, Envirobase. Createx paints are compatible with all brands of 2k urethane paints, primers and clears. For more, please see our Solvent-Based Clears video, th-cam.com/video/JuroIpJOCNo/w-d-xo.html. Yes, always allow the water-based paint to thoroughly dry before applying a solvent-based clear. For more, please refer to our application guide and tech sheets available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.

    ok. so next i want to see how one would turn a candy color into a pastel type shade. like a candy pink or candy mint

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try mixing candy20 to W030 Wicked Opaque White, that will make a pastel-like color. We’ve never done this so please make several test panels before an actual paintjob. Thank you.

    Do you use sealers underneath the metallic gold and charcoal

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, thank you for the question. 6002 AutoBorne Sealer Black was used as a base for all metallic colors, except the aluminum, which is simply 6013 Silver Sealer, made with a blend of the flakes used to make our aluminum colors. For the orange candy-pearl color, the base is 6001 Sealer White tinted with 6005 Sealer Orange. www.autoborne.com

    should the "bleed checker" be applied before the clear coat? I want to try a candy/pearl deep purple and found that the candy deep purple does bleed heavily with out the bleed check

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4040 Bleed Checker doesn't need to be applied over candy2o before top-coating with a catalyzed, solvent-based urethane clear. To avoid bleeding, make sure candy2o is being properly mixed with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear (4050 6:1 candy2o for a spray-gun), and only thin candy2o minimally with 4011 Reducer when using an airbrush. 4011 Reducer isn't required when applying candy2o with a spray-gun. Thank you.

      Yes, Createx paints, including cand2yo and Wicked Colors, are made for application with both an airbrush and spray-gun. Thank you.
